While many will probably have no opinion over (or even noticed) this matter either way, which is the more preferable fashion to express Brainy's Legion codename? While at first it might appear to be up to the whim of the letterer, it seems more of a deliberate choice of the scripter. IMHO writing out the number seems more dignified, respectful, and well, especially in the case of Querl Dox, more intelligent--but then again, perhaps it's because that's the style Paul Levitz always preferred, and he wrote most of Brainiac Five's best moments...

In terms of the character, I see Brainy using 5 instead of Five. It being more efficient to write down one character as opposed to four characters.

I always write it as 5. (I also write the numbers of the parallel earths as numbers.)

I guess I'd be one of those orthodox (no pun intended) fangirls who'd see how it was written in his first appearance, and then go with that. According to Major Spoilers, that would leave us with the number, not the written-out word "Five." Commence flamewar !

during Legion On the Run, Brainy used a code name as "Five" or "B5" - can't remember which one....
We tend to use the # instead of spelling out so it's 5.

I still say "Brainiac V" makes the most sense if you think of it as a hereditary title.
I wouldn't write "Queen Elizabeth 2" or "Queen Elizabeth Two" after all.

"V" would make more sense but maybe Coluans don't recognize Roman numerals? I think most of the Legionverse planets with numbers are in Roman numerals - like Talok VIII - although there are some given numbers - like Manna 5.
I always write 5 just because it's shorter and I actually didn't recall that his name was sometimes written as Brainiac Five.

I would assume Coluans use a completely different numeric system, and either "5" or "five" are adequate translations - yet neither resemble the actuality of Colu.

if it was V then they'd say "brainiac the fifth" i'd think, but no one's ever called him that.
i think his full, official name is "Adorable Green Nerd That Sometimes Has Cute Marks On His Face And Has a Thing For Strong, Blonde Women"

Didn't they just call him "Five" in the Elseworlds story?

With Levitz's imminent return, Querl Dox will doubtlessly revert to "Brainiac Five" for the foreseeable future...
