Good things: -- The series itself. Time for Iron Fist to return to the spotlight. After the resurgence of Ms. Marvel, Power Man, Moon Knight and Spider-Woman, IF was the natural followup. -- The art: The main art and the flashbacks work well together in how they contrast each other. -- I like the premise of exploring Iron Fist as a title, rather than a man. I appreciate the fact that it's an unexplored aspect to his mythos rather than something they decided to tack on for the sake of launching a new series. -- Yes, I'm glad they ditched the slippers. -- Showing Danny use the Iron Fist to take out a group of people at a time. It makes sense to use it that way since it seems too heavy-handed to use it against a regular person.
The Not So Good: -- the design of the Hydra robot -- it just looks too erector set to give Iron Fist such a hard time. -- I don't know how I feel about Iron Fist being able to kill so easily. I don't remember Danny's feelings about killing but I guess I'd rather he use it as a last resort rather than run around breaking necks all the time.

Yay -- Luke Cage makes his appearance already! It's always nice to see these two just hang out. They're definitely one of the most interesting friendships in comicdom.
What did Danny mean when he was upset about Misty choosing to side with "HIM". Does Danny have something against Tony Stark?
I don't know how I feel about someone else using the Iron Fist having an adverse reaction to Danny. It goes against what my notion of what the Iron Fist is (though I'm certainly not the most informed Iron Fist fan).

Given that he spent time in Tony and Reed's Negative Zone prison, he probably does.

He finally lost the slippers? YAY!
So is Danny sporting naked feet (crossing fingers) or some kind of boots or something (hoping not)?

This is shaping up to be a pretty good series! I really like how the exploration of previous Iron Fists has given Danny Rand something new to do and a specific place in the Marvel U rather than be "another street level crime fighter". I'm also glad they haven't ditched the corporate CEO angle too - the dichotomy makes for an interesting mix and gives his world a larger pervue (again, so that he's more than just "another street level crime fighter")
Also very exciting to see that he's going to be able to do more with channeling his chi than make the Iron Fist. Chinese martial arts dramas have had folks do all sorts of crazy stuff through chi manipulation. Cool to see he's already getting the hang of the hypnotism (giving him the ability to "cloud men's minds?"). I wonder if he'll eventually be able to channel it outwards to strike at foes from a distance.
I was also very glad to see the next issue blurb show Iron Fist in his more traditional look. The only thing I really don't like about his outfit were those booties, but I like the rest (although I think the artist draws his mask and belt sashes a too long - they seem incredibly impractical in a fight).

I like how Bru and Fraction are expanding on the mythos by including these other "deadly weapons". Reminds me of the "Seven Deadly Venoms" and kung fu films of that ilk, a perfectly apropos influence on a character that was birthed in the heyday of '70's chop-socky flicks.
I also can't wait to see Danny really get the hang of his new chi abilities. I've long thought Danny could be like Ken of "Fist of the North Star" in terms of just how devestating his martial arts can be, and it looks like we're heading in the right direction!

I might have to contact DCBS and have Cameron & Co. add the HC collection to my order-- it's a 50% off special this month.

Okay, Drake, this better be good... I added the trade to my order and it put me over $100, and up into the next bracket for shipping costs! Since I was already spending more, I added Countdown 43-40 for good measure...

So, what'd you think pov??
This series continues to impress. I wasn't totally satisfied with the showdown, but only because they called it the end of a storyline. At least we know Danny's going to face Steel Dragon in the upcoming competition.
Also very nice to see Luke and the Sisters, despite the current political climate. One thing though -- are they usually this bloodhtirsty? I know comics can get away with more these days, but were they (especially Cage) always so at ease with killing?

Got it -this- week, actually. WOW! Fraction and Brubaker did a good job with Danny's history... I remember his encounter with Steel Dragon and SD's death in a Marvel Team-Up two-part story. Orson Randall was an interesting character and addition to the Iron Fist mythos. I loved how he focused his chi through his guns. I can't wait to see Danny delve into the book Orson gave him with history of the Iron Fist. I like this enough to continue with the pamphlets, but I reeeeeally liked the hardcover! The extras were cool- it had material from Civil War: Choosing Sides, with Danny standing in as Daredevil, as well as 6 pages of Aja's character designs for both Danny's costume and historical wielders of the Iron Fist. How are sales on IIF overall, Drake? If it's safe, I want to continue with the hardcovers.

I love this series. Seriously. Danny Rand is my new favorite person. But the last issue didn't actually have him in it. It was all about that really hot female Iron Fist-- dude. She rocks. Stadium rocks. I really enjoyed her story and the art. Super sweet as. If this gets canned, I'll be really sad. It's so fun and just... violent. I like that.

Hmmm... didn't mean to start a panic, I just meant I was curious how the book was doing sales-wise. Numbers from icv2.com: June-#58 67.89 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #6 36,731 May-#67 46 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #5 36,856 April-#59 66.02 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #4 37,159
Feb-#53 42.87 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #3 35,654 Dec'06-#62 43.16 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #2 33,219 Nov'06-#56 40.89 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #1 38,579 Looks pretty consistent for a new title- drops for 2 and 3, then settling in just under 37k. Not Marvel's strongest seller, but no slouch.

(In the vein of writing combos like DNA and GrayPal, I dub these guys Frac&Bru... like Lowenbrau, only goes down smoother! Or black and blue, without the bruising! Feel free to use it on the finer news sites and messageboards! )

Glad you liked the book pov! I'm sure the hardback is sweet, but I needs my monthly dose of Iron Fist!
I really liked the Pirate Queen story. I wish the art was all done by the guy who started the issue, but the shift wasn't too bad. Interesting that they had him have hair when she was bald and him bald when her hair grew out. I guess it symbolizes how they're never on the same page, or how they're yin/yang or something.
I also thought it was a tad awkward the way they had her dragon brand on her thigh like that
Now I'm wondering why there was never another female Iron Fist (I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with those crane ladies...)

"The Immortal Iron Fist" ranked #9 on "Entertainment Weekly's" MUST LIST! Too bad there was no artwork accompanying the listing.
