"Comics, as much attention as they're getting now, is still a terrible way to make a living," Clowes confides. "You have to do it as a labor of love. I always get these letters from kids who say, 'I'm thinking of doing comics as a career.' And I just think if you even articulate that thought, you should run. It's not something you do as a career. It's something that happens to you. You have no choice."
