Okay, so I have liked enough of Millars stuff over the years to have thought about giving this a shot. Then I saw that Gibbons was doing the art on it. That was enough for me to give the first issue a shot.
Our stiry opens with a kidnapping of a famous sci-fi movie star (yes, based on a real person.) The rescue does not go exactly as expected. I wonder if the actor approved the appearance or not...just curious really.
Then we cut to a young mans screwed up family. Mom is with a jerk of a boyfriend. The young man gets into trouble with the law, and she calls her brother. A British spy of some apparent success.
The typical arguments happen when he goes to see them at the jail.
Then, after he bails the boy out, he gets an idea...
I think I will be sticking around for a little while here. It's an interesting enough premise. A good agent with a F'ed up family.
The art though is stellar. Gibbons has always been a talented artist. He seems to have evolved just enough to make his art even better here. He does not do near enough work nowadays, so I will keep going with this to see his gorgeous work on a monthly basis. Even though this is a 7 issue mini, 7 issues of Gibbons is better than none.
Looks like I am buying a Marvel (Icon anyways) book now.
