Has anyone bought the first issue of this ??

i thought it was great !! some really good 'one liners' !!

the interation of L-Ron, Max and all the members of 'JL' was really good !!

i read a little bit with KEITH GIFFEN, saying we won't see BOOSTER's girlfriend !!

and she'll be a little like 'MARIS' in 'Fraiser' !!

Matthew.

But I thought Beetle was Booster's girlfriend... or was Booster BEETLE'S girlfriend? laugh

No, seriously... I can't WAIT until I get this with my next sub shipment! cool I saw it on the shelf at my local CBS, and it looks great. I had to seriously fight the urge to open up a copy and give it a quick read-thru... mad

I didn't read that much of the original Justice League, but I thought FKATJL #1 was hee-lar-ee-us!

I especially liked the very funny bit with Booster Gold -- and the fact that Mary Marvel is going to be a part of the cast. Now if we can get Mary and Junior regular roles in a continuing title, I'll be happy...

I really hope my store held a copy for me like I asked. Their track record with holding issues of new series for me when I ask months in advance isn't too good. I was really looking forward to this one and the Zodiac one Giffen and Doran are doing.

I'm just glad they're getting Captain Atom to ditch that god-awful orange look -- his silver design is tons cooler.

Lots of cutesiness with one REALLY out-of-left-field LOL moment (L-Ron's 'you're dating?' line to Billy Batson-- where the HELL did that come from?)

I liked the nods to continuity (Ralph's brief Doom Patrol stint, Beetle's heart condition).

Kevin's art is looking top-notch.

A fine set-up issue-- I think next issue, all Bwa-Ha-Ha is going to break loose.

I'm so glad my store remembered to pull a copy for me since this sold out and DC is hinting at not reprinting it.

Hilarious!

L-Ron and his job was great. I think it would have been a little funnier if instead of mentioning handing out "Jolly Meals" to six year olds he would have stated something to the effect of all the adults buying them to get the collector toys. Or maybe that's a Utah thing. I'm going to have to use the tag line, "Have a resonably bearable day." somewhere. Too funny.

And finally in print someone comments about the handiness of having a partner with rubber body parts. Its about time. laugh

Booster likes older women? I don't believe it for a second. But he sure couldn't get out of their quick enough.

All in all, a great first issue with some decent art. I hope the rest of the mini keeps it up.

sigh It sounds great, but I just can't justify (no pun intended) buying another series right now. frown I hope they're going to realease it as a trade.

A--

it's a 6-issue JLA-related mini with the first issue selling out, so it's a safe bet for a trade!

Hmmm... this is gonna prompt me to return to the DC boards and see the reations there.

LOVED that line. Unfortunately, nobody except you seems to have noticed it. But really, imagine Billy dating Captain Marvel; there's a fanfic in the making right there!

Oh, and Maguire's Marvel Girl is HOT!

{[...] it's a 6-issue JLA-related mini with the first issue selling out, so it's a safe bet for a trade!}

That same selling out didn't help "Legion Lost," though.

What's Giffen's involvement with this, anyway? Writer? Artist? Both? I'd also appreciate any thoughts on that involvement, and if it's improved in quality as compared to {personal "urrrgh"} the Legion's TMK days, which were the last I've seen of him.

Grey, he is listed as the writer of the series along with J.M. DeMatteis. Kevin Maguire is doing the art chores and is quite good for this tale. This is reminiscent, to me, of Keith's writing on Vext which was my favorite of his post-Legion works. Entertaining, funny and just a plain old good read. I hope the caliber of the coming issues continues in the same direction.

Grey--

Even though LLOST sold out, 10 of the 12 issues never cracked the Top 100.

That's not going to be true of FKATJL. I'm 99% sure it will eventually be traded (key word is eventually).

What I'm REALLY hoping is it will lead to an ONGOING!

Scott-- LOVED Giffen's VEXT!

I -did- briefly visit the DC JLA board for into on FKATJL.

Looks like the response was mostly positive (it's a chore for me to read/post there, so I only made it through 2 1/2 pages of the 8-page thread).

What's cool to me is 2 hot rumours about this series:

1) That DC has ALREADY approved a 6-issue EXTENTSION of the mini, making it a 12-issue mini!

2) That DC has ALREADY approved a 2nd FKATJL mini!

And the second issue isn't even out yet!

I'm curious how much truth is in those rumours.... I *do* believe there is SOME truth there!

Rich Johnston in his "Lying in the Gutters" column this week said this:

FORMERLY KNOWN AS A DAMN FINE COMIC

Looks like there will be a second six-issue mini-series of "Formerly Known As The Justice League" mini coming out - in which Fire will get a decent haircut.

And you know, if that was the whole plot, I wouldn't care. It's a wonderful comic.

Now all I want is DC to put out the complete Giffen/DeMatteis JL/JLI/JLA/JLE/JLAntarctica in a series of Essential style volumes and I'll be a happy bunny.
I never know if he is serious or not at times but it sounds like they may be doing at least a second 6 issue mini. He did give it a yellow light, yellow meaning: Yellow light means I think there's an element of truth to the rumor.

Thanks, Scott!

And I agree with Rich, it IS a damn fine comic!

In fact, I hope the plot of the second mini IS Fire's search for a new haircut! MR. NEBULA, INTERPLANETARY DESIGNER can be the villain! *tee hee!*

I would think that a trade would be a fairly safe bet. It's selling well, and it IS a Justice League mini-series, even if it's not the current line up. I'm not even sure if my store is saving it for me... they usually will pull anything Justice League for me because I collect the main title, so they probably are.

You know, I hope FKATJL becomes a series of mini-series, rather than a regular series, so we can prevent burnout. Who's with me?

As long as the minis are 8 to 12 issues annually, I'm all for that instead of an ongoing! ;-)

i think this series only works when GIFFEN and Co are working on it, so if they don't stick around [ ongoing ] it looses 'the magic' !!!

so it probably would better to have a number of mini's ??? and that way the ORIGINAL creative can always work on it .....

Matthew.
