I just read a brand-new interview tonight with writer Mike Baron & artist STEVE RUDE-- my #1 favorite artist in the comics-biz since 1986, creators of NEXUS, my vote for the single BEST comic of the last 20 years. Steve mentioned IDW has signed a deal to reprint the ENTIRE series from the beginning! If you haven't read it before, I can't possibly give it a high enough reccomendation. It's just so damn good!

Funny enough, we were BOTH inspired by the 1966 cartoon, SPACE GHOST!

"Nexus" was a great series. One of the groundbreaking independents of the day that showed Marvel and DC weren't the only ones who could so superheroes right (well, better actually). When Rude hit his stride on that book, there was nothing better.

I foolishly sold my run of Nexus years ago (yeah, even the first three magazine sized ones from Capital) and have often wished I hadn't done so. I'm currently re-reading it courtesy of bittorrent, though, so I'll definitely be picking it up again. Any word on if it's being done like Grimjack or will it be an issue by issue reprint?

I have a feeling "issue by issue" reprints are no longer popular. Since IDW is already doing JON SABLE FREELANCE and GRIMJACK as TPBs, I think it's safe to figure NEXUS will be the same.

This month's BACK ISSUE features the interview with Baron & Rude. Steve Rude did a painting for the cover, which was a redo-- HIS version-- of the painting Paul Gulacy did for the original B&W NEXUS #1!

One of the benefits of the whole "nostalgia" thing is that cool stuff that maybe didn't get big sales at the time can be given another chance.

I'm in for this.

Hmm...I think the gap in my collection goes from something like 23 to 49. I have the earlier stories because they were reprinted in Nexus Legends. Still, I wouldn't mind being able to read those missig issues.

Not that I need them, but I'd hope they do the right thing and start with the 3 B&W issues, which were earlier collected in a "graphic novel" format. (If they included the flexi-disc soundtrack for the 3rd issue, that would be really cool, too! I suppose at this point a CD would be more popular...)

Paul Smith did some nice work when he became the "regular fill-in guy", doing 4 issues to Rude's 6, in rotation. I always thought it was a shame Smith didn't stick around after Rude left completely. I thought the ONE artist doing back-up stories who looked like he'd have been right for a full-time replacement was John Calimee, but he never got to do the regular book, and the guy they finally did settle on as a "permanent" penciller, when I looked back on it recently, was just AWFUL, even compared to some of the multitude of other fill-ins. Calimee did finally draw the series, but it was the only 4-part story NOT written by Mike Baron, and was published early-on by Dark Horse. By then, Rude had returned (making Calimee's work look bad, if only by comparison), and his new stuff completely blew away EVERYTHING he'd done before!
