Did anyone catch his new series? I was a bit disappointed, but since I have loved his work over the years maybe my expectations were to high. I'll give a go for a while. Any thoughts? What crap Thanos turned into after he left! Marvel the bureaucratic machine sucks! Did Thanos get cancelled? I have not seen it in a while...

I think issue 12 was it. They let Giffen wrap up his "story", at least... Does anybody have any reliable info on what happened to cause Starlin to quit THANOS and leave Marvel? I'm still baffled and disappointed.

Only that whatever it was, it was a side-issue, rather than anything to do with Thanos itself.

I thought it was over control of the stories. Marvel trying to push their "brand" of story on Starlin. Lord knows where I thought I heard that from though..Voices in my head during a drunken probably...I thought Giffen's story was terrible too because I was very much enjoying Starlin's...

I knew after Giff's first issue THANOS was gonna be canceled. I -am- amazed it lasted to issue 12. They should've just called it another miniseries like Infinity Abyss and The End, and killed the book with Starlin's last issue. Giff's arc was a meandering pile of dung.

Like most of Giff's stuff lately. Where is Vext when you need it? As for what happened with Starlin, I never did hear anything solid other than just a parting of ways over creative issues. Has anyone tried his website recently ( www.starlin.com)? Last I tried it wasn't coming up at all.

Well, his latest project, COSMIC GUARD from Devil's Due, is alot of fun. You can check out a 4-page preview of the second issue here at Newsarama. Comic book-y goodness! The four pages previewed do a great job of summing up the title thus far. Can't wait to read the whole second issue!

I di d pick it up, and it was Starlin being Starlin. Which I think means good and fun. Probably won't keep getting it though due to budget constraints...If it was an established cosmic character, it might be a different story.

Living on a budget sucks. If I were paying retail at a local store, there's no way I'd be buying my 30-40 books a month. I've been getting my new books by subscription from a couple of places online for about 5 years now. I started with Lone Star Comics ( www.mycomicshop.com)-- 15% discount, plus 20% off their extensive back-issue stock. When they started pricing their backstock in line with Mile High, though, that negated the incentive to order older stuff, and I get a better discount-- 35%, with monthly specials discounted 50-75%-- from Discount Comic Book Service, at www.dcbservice.com . Both places have great customer support, real friendly people running their websites-- Glen at LoneStar, and Cameron and Kathryn at DCBS. In fact, the 50% off issue 1 was an added incentive to check out COSMIC GUARD. I've also tried out the new Manhunter series, which I got for 75% off. I find it's a cheap way to try out stuff I ordinarily wouldn't order sight-unseen.

Cool. Maybe I will check that out. Should I give them your name and you'll get 98% off? Sweet...Thanks for the insight...

But I find it hard to break away from the last comic store in town. Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people keeping them in business. I know my 15% discount isn't much compared to an online service but I don't want to see another comic seller go under.

I really do respect you for supporting your local CBS guy, Scott. If you remember, I was kinda forced into mailorder because my local shop is so lousy with preordering and maintaining customers' holds. But I stuck with them for years before I made the jump online. If it helps, though, I usually pay $11.95 (7.95 for orders totalling $50-100, +$4 for 2x/month shipping) for my shipping, so that eats a little of my discount.

A blast from the past... Aaaaanyway, on top of his Mystery in Space mini from DC, Starlin's putting out an OGN (original graphic novel) thru DDP continuing his work on Cosmic Guard. Kid Kosmos comes out this September and will be 122 pages for $12.99. That's a penny cheaper per page than a 24-page monthly at $2.99...! Already on my DCBS order.
