Okay, I guess it's "Rip on Wally Wood" time. Let's see what Wally contributed
to "Marvel" culture...


THE MASKED MADADOR! Yeah, swirl that cape! A character SO outstanding, they
REFUSED to reprint his story in Brazil!


THE OX! (No, that was Ditko...)


THE EEL! (No, that was a Johnny Storm villain...)


MR. FEAR! Aha, that makes sense. "Mannen Utan Fruktan"... PARDON ME, "Man
Without Fear"... "I'LL SHOW YOU FEAR!!!"


PRINCE NAMOR! No, that was BILL EVERETT!!


Some guy in a knight outfit with a sword in a castle who was so memorable I
can't even remember what his name was...


THE ORGANIZER! (Who WAS he, anyway?) BIRD-MAN! (Did anyone think of suing
Hanna-Barbera over their tv show of the same name?) APE-MAN! (Not very
original...) FROG-MAN! (There was a joke character by this name on THE MONKEES
once, he had a sidekick named RUBIN THE TADPOLE.) CAT-MAN! (Okay... HOW MANY
characters over the decades have there been called "CAT-MAN"??? Come on, HOW
many?)


And the worst menace Wood came up with... DEBBIE HARRIS! She came back later,
and MARRIED Foggy Nelson. Then, Denny "drag 'em thru the MUD" O'Neil wrote the
book, and spent an entire YEAR destroying their marriage, and totally degrading
her as a person. I guess that was a warm-up for when O'Neil's pal Miller totally
degraded Karen Page. What IS these guy's problem? At least Karen was
redeemed... but then someone else BUMPED her off. Did anyone even dare to bring
Debbie Harris back again after what she did to her marriage?


See, this is why it's BETTER to treat this book as a COMEDY. Somebody, PLEASE,
tell Marvel, this is what they SHOULD do with this book. Enough with the endless
pointless depressing bleakness.

This one was a B**** to set up... because, and I have to make an assumption
here, it contains ALL 3 parts of the 3-part D.D./I.M. "Zodiac Key" story. This
means, not only were the covers of those issues inter-linked with "prev" and
"next" buttons so one could easily flip thru them IN SEQUENCE, but the reprint
"Compare" pages ALSO allow you to do this now!


(Nick only set up IRON MAN to issue #35, so a few weeks back, I had to add IM
#36-- doing a restoration of the cover along the way-- JUST so this multi-part
story would all be up at the site.)


Crazy enough, considering parts 1 & 3 of the story appeared in IRON MAN, it was
FIRST reprinted in the US in ESSENTIAL DAREDEVIL Vol.3 (2005), and then in
ESSENTIAL IRON MAN Vol.3, 3 years LATER (2008).


Hey, with Marvel's perchant for "theme" reprint books, do you suppose they'll
ever do a "ZODIAC" collection, with ALL the stories connected with this Crime
Cartel???
