I know there are tons of New Mutants fans here, much more than I. Well, according to this article on Newsarama most of the original team is reuniting for a new series chronicling their adventures in the present! Looks pretty cool, worth taking a look at.

Illyiana will be a part of the team, so that's enough for me to check it out!

As someone who bought the series when it first, came out, I'm torn. Like Matlock, I'm figuring it'll be a letdown. Sucks that Rahne won't be there either. Sucks that she's being shut out of her two best homes, NM and X-Factor, really. I'm glad it doesn't include any of the the X-Force characters though. Damn! Were Doug and Warlock the only other boys?!?

I try to live by the old saying, "You can't go home again." It holds especially true after Layton/Michelinie's Iron Man: Legacy of Doom mini-series last year.

Interestingly, that Claremont project they announced seems interesting. Like he's being given an opportunity to do what he wants with the characters unfettered by what others wrote after he originally left as X-scribe, including the NM characters, I think.

Yeah, it'll prolly suck, too, but it's interesting.

Sunspot was indeed the team's resident jerk. He was to New Mutants what Nova was to New Warriors.

i love these kids. i liked the aforce roadtrip era. be nice to see james, siryn, and boom boom around. but actually hose characters have changed alot i dont really enjoy them as much.

but hello! i thought they would bring back the co leaders deal with dani moonstar!! she used to be a better leader but sam's come along way.

Er, somebody ought to tell this Zeb Wells that Scott, Jean, Bobby, Hank and Warren were the first ones to graduate Xavier's. Just sayin's all.

This sounds kind of like one of those train-wreck attempts to reassemble the Wolfman/Perez Titans lineup.

And it's not even "Book 2" if he wants to put it like that. The middle years of X-Force were largely putting the NMs back together again...

sigh....why left out Rahne? Isn't she one of the original? and Magma? She was not one of the original! Rahne was in the NM Graphic Novel....but not Magma. *stratching head*

The X-Force writers have dibs on Rahne - they pulled her out of X-Factor, remember.

I am super excited Cannonball, Magma and Dani Moonstar are 3 of my fave Marvel characters can't wait for this!!

It does seem like somewhat of a backwards step for Cannonball. I hope that's addressed in the story.

Sam's appearing now in an amusing strip in ASTONISHING TALES alongside Roberto. It's set in Mojoworld, but this time they're there voluntarily.

I hope characters like Anole and Dust and Mercury pop up, maybe joining the cast eventually.

As a fan of the jerks like Sunspot and Empath (not really a New Mutant, but last I heard he was reformed and dating Amara...), I hope we have some more jerks!

Although I like Cannonball, too, and he's a nice guy.

Rahne would be my absolute favorite, but she's not available, thanks to Team Schnikt-Bub. Dani, I like, but gosh, her powers / continuity is a bit of a mess... Xian never got the best treatment, and it would be neat to see what a mind controller who has spent years working for an Asian criminal organization can do. She was an asian martial artist mentalist long before that British poseur Psylocke came along!

As long as we *don't* see Boom-Boom or Bird-Brain. Gosh, how I loathe them...

I wish two of my favorites, Skids & Empath, appeared more often.

empath was most recently a villain. in (uncanny xmen?) a few months ago. but i liked how he was reforming but, i remember ages ago reading (in a marvel super heroes rpg description) that he was the only hellion who was actually a villain.

i like sunspots new-ish powers. but weren't sunspot and magma most recently villains?

i like the adult karma lately. recently featured in x-men too "she's really into revenge" ha

If they got Sienkeiwicz on board I'd be super-excited but it'll probably be as bad-to-mediocre as all the other x-stuff has been (with the exception of Morrison's New and Whedon's Astonishing) in the last couple decades.

I don't know if it's even possible for me to enjoy an X-Team book anymore (other than X-Factor), but the closest it ever gets is when a writer tries to put a good, familar character mix back together--like Whedon's mix on Astonishing. So this relaunch has that going for it. But it also has to be keenly written by someone who understands that dynamic. I have no idea if the NM writer understands that or not.

I just saw an ad for this and it featured not only Doug and Warlock but one Miss Illyana Rasputin. Color me getting it (despite the lack of Karma-- she should be there; still having the other 8 is impressive, if it's true).

Anyone know a ship-date offhand?
