Slaughterfest '05-06 lost me completely from this book, so this is a pointless "I don't care" (least of all about Magik, who was deaged & dead by the time I started reading comics) post.

I don't plan on buying it, either (no Dani, no sale), but I know Magik has a lot of fans. And the pics are pretty nice.

I wasn't going to buy it either. But I'm a fan of the artist.

New X-Men, along with X-Factor and Astonishing, are about it for my X-purchases these days. And Astonishing is on warning...
I love seeing a telekinetic who *isn't* a telepath as well, and hey, a powerful X-person who isn't a girl? That's pretty radical! I love the idea of a healer on the team. I love the idea of a powerless ex-mutant hanging around with them. (Since I *loathe* how mere humans have been cut out of Xavier's dream of mutant / human co-existence. All of the humans that used to work at the mansion / with the kids have vanished. It's like Xavier's turned into Magneto, yet another mutant supremacist reverse racist.)
And, kicking and screaming, because I *so* did not want to, I actually like X-23. She's actually interesting, which Logan / James / Barrington / Howlett / Steve / Sybil hasn't been since Byrne was drawing the book.
Dust is my favorite, 'though.
Magik? We'll see. I'm not terribly fond of Marvel's rampant ressurecting the dead. (I'm looking at you, Captain Mar-Vell!) But since Colossus died because Ilyanna died, I guess Colossus being back means that Ilyanna might as well come back, too. The emotional impact of her death has already been rendered meaningless by Joss. And then they can bring Mikhail back, and ma and pa Rasputin, and everyone Stalin killed, and my dog Midget...
Kind of a funny story about the woeful hardship of writing 25 mutants, despite ignoring most of them, and then they feel compelled to bring back one of the dead ones rather than work in one of the people wandering around the mansion, like Armor or Nunzho or Pixie, or one of the many floating around 'unused' like Magma or Empath or Cecilia Reyes, or even someone more radical like former Acolytes Cargill or Unuscione or Scanner.
So freaking many interesting characters out there. Why do they have to keep diggin' up corpses?
They just stink up the place...

I'm a huge Magik fan but I'm a bit cautious. Trust me I'm happy and the art is beautiful. But I'm also still sore about Dani.
I think Marvel should use their mutants and crossbreed them into other titles. Mutants and Magik? Mutants and space aliens? I wonder if they should use Magik in a more magic series?
Also give Dani some Valkyrie powers...heck make her the new Valkyrie and I will be there.
Throw Magik, Dr. Strange, Dani into a new Defenders series. Still excited to see her though.

Well, I love Magik the character.
But like Reboot, I dropped this not long after slaughterfest 05-06. I'm not even sure who exactly was killed in the bus explosion. I just read that Wallflower (Laurie) was later killed. Sigh. That doesn't help things.

Unuscione and Scanner are both Offically Depowered (although they haven't been seen on-panel since M-Day). Cargill's back in her UGLYUGLY Frenzy costume, but was part of Exodus' small group in Carey's X-Men Annual v2 #1. Cecilia Reyes is a weird case - there's an editorial insistance she died in Weapon X #5, despite her being marked as part of the "spared" group and the writer confirming that online. WTF is going on there, no-one knows. Originally posted by Set: So freaking many interesting characters out there. Why do they have to keep diggin' up corpses?

In the outline I did for a series of alternate-timeline Avengers stories I had an Asgard-Olympus War storyarc that would have ended with Dani officially becoming the new Valkyrie and replacing Thor in the Avengers. Who knows? I still might write it someday...

Since I picked up Dani for fanfic100, I've been working with the idea of depowered!Dani working for Fury. Then S.H.I.E.L.D. And, eventually, becoming the new Valkyrie. It was sort of based on that What If? about Jessica Jones and... some other stuff. I dunno. The point is-- I want my Dani back, darn it! And Joey Q was not promising when I asked about her at SDCC last year...

I don't think they realize how many fans Dani has. I'd love to see that line-up in the Defenders, Jorge.

I'm thinking about picking up New X-Men, can everyone tell me how the book is like?

I'll warn you, don't get attached to any of the characters.
I think coming in now-- or reading the last few issues-- would allow you to enjoy it. Earlier issues were heart-breaking. And not in a good way.
I think the writing scene to scene, and issue to issue is good-- if you can get past the afore-mentioned heartbreak.

I'm thinking of picking up of the issues with Magik, what trades would be good to pick up or not pick up for the heart-breaking moments.

I foolishly read the preview for next weeks issues and accidentally remembered that I actually liked these characters at one point. Maybe I'm being more forgiving because Dani's going to be in Avengers Initiative, but I decided to pick up the most recent issue. It's not bad, although I could do without the Wolverine clone. I wasn't crazy about the art, but that won't be a problem next issue, and it was nice seeing Magik (some version of her anyway)on the last page. I was a bit disappointed in Julian's hair, it looked nicer in the preview. Poor Cessily, she had it rough this issue. Looks like they're not going to forget about her next month, so that's good.

OK- whatever you might think of this title, this week's issue had the panel of the week.
Santos, think Blok with an attitude crossed with Arms-Fall-Off Boy, and a group of new X-Men are seated on couches in a U shape. In the middle is a little seen character named Match. He looks like Fire Lad, fiery hair-do and all.
Santos is holding a branch with a marshmallow on it over Match's head- making s'mores!
Made me laugh- and that's something comics haven't been aiming for much recently.

Um...doesn't unintentional humor count? Plenty o'that to go around in today's comics.
