^ haha Yours certainly was short, sharp and sweet compared to everyone else's but when you've got someone as powerful as J'onn on your team, maybe you don't need a long explanation? At least one voter seems to have thought so.
You're too kind considering that I'm getting thrashed in the polls
Actually that was something I originally thought would be funny / awkwardly bad ...
If players got uber violent ... complete with neck snapping and roasting other characters on pikes.
tee heee heehehehehehehehehe
We can actually have a Bloodlust Match where our characters fight until the death...well, at least until the next match. It's comic books after all, nobody stays dead. By the way, the next match is either going to be Ultron or Ant-Man themed.

I'll have to curb my Nasty Genie, Legion Emergency tendencies to minimise the damage. But I've always treated them as Roadrunner cartoons, where everyone will be fine for the next bout. I just have to make sure none of my team have guns....D'Oh!

Blacula, I have to admit, I voted for myself. That was the first vote. If you ever play Mafia games, that is the usual strategy, to save yourself.
I guess people are allowed to vote however they want and there would be no way to police otherwise anyway, but I feel the need to say my piece on this subject.
I think that voting self-interestedly is:
a) against the spirit of the game (or at least what I perceived the game to be initially); and b) detrimental to the game.
As to point a) I'll just say that I thought that this was going to be a fair game based on merit, and voting for oneself no matter what strategy your opponent has outlined (or, indeed, before they've even outlined it) seems antithetical to that to me.
As to point b) I'll raise a hypothetical. Let's say TL is up against IB in a fight. TL posts a strategy and it's completely terrible. He demonstrates no creativity with his characters' powers and is lazy with his use of tactics. He is, in short, just not very good at this. (Again, this is just a hypothetical TL! ) IB, on the other hand, shows himself to be an excellent strategist who showcases the various abilities of his well-selected group of characters in an entertaining and commanding fashion.
Question: If we were all voting self-interestedly, why would any of us ever vote for IB? It doesn't matter that he is clearly the better player with the better team, if we vote for him then we're all going to have to face him eventually and therefore potentially lose. Much better to kick IB out of the game by giving our votes to TL whom we could potentially beat.
This is clearly detrimental to the game because:
a) the better player is being eliminated earlier than the weaker player; and b) those thread viewers who enjoy reading good, clever fights are instead being forced to read weak fights because of self-interested voting.
I imagine that in a game with lots of voters, this style of voting wouldn't make much of a difference. But since we're unlikely to ever get more than 10 votes for a match here on Legion World (and us players will therefore account for at least half of them) I think any self-interested votes thus have the power to greatly impact all of the outcomes.

Can I sit that round out? I don't enjoy reading that sort of thing and wouldn't enjoy writing it.
I voted for myself the last round ... I thought my story was better ... but I was totally open to voting for the opposition ... in fact I was looking forward to reading the other player's story, I think that's going to be the most fun of the game.

I was actually imagining corny "rips out spine" Mortal Combat video game type fight moves ... he he he.
i think we shouldn't discuss strategy until after the voting is over.
(or ever maybe since ... we are still in the competition! Im keeping my tricks firmly up my sleeves!)
I guess I wasn't really meaning "discussing strategy" as in what we think other players should have done or giving them tips as to what their characters can really do or anything like that (since that would obviously be of help to them in future fights) and more along the lines of making points solely about the strategies as outlined in the current fights.
Such as (using mine and Emily's fight for example):
* I like the way she had Magma melt the ground in front of the Flash to slow him down. That's a classic Heat Wave tactic. or * I don't understand why Deadman would just stand around doing nothing all fight until Quentin Quire turns his mind to him.
That sort of thing. Obviously very specific to the fight at hand and unlikely to influence any future fights.
I guess the question is, will comments on one fight influence other later voters for that same fight?
Though when we played Idol that was also an issue. And as Blacula points out, if one player is clearly better at strategizing for that round than the other, it will be obvious anyway.
TL posts a strategy and it's completely terrible. He demonstrates no creativity with his characters' powers and is lazy with his use of tactics. He is, in short, just not very good at this.
I'm just stunned you've been peeking
On voting, I'd just like folks to vote for the one they liked most. Simple. To vote for your opponent, with the small number of participants at present doesn't seem to be much better than voting for yourself.
In addition to just reading the bouts, I did have an eye on what group I'd be likely to face off against. But not close to having it affect my votes. I'm much more interested in having fun with this, as it's new to me, than bothering about anything else. Besides, if I've not won by the twentieth tournament, I'd expect to see some subtle pity voting
I treated Idol a bit differently. I didn't always vote on my favourites if I knew that others would vote for them. Sometimes it worked and sometimes I was left a sobbing wreck shouting Steeeeeeeeeeelllll! Nooooooooo!
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
I was less pressured by Idol because we were just voting for our faves. Here, people are voting for the strategy/story they thought was better so it's kind of a reflection on the player...
I'm thinking we could a compromise. Like, you can't comment on your own fight until voting is closed unless a player not involved in the match or a spectator thinks you are cheating in any fashion.
But you would be free to comment on other players matches and all spectators can say whatever they want. Does this sound fair?
In regards to voting for yourself, as far as I know I can't physically stop you from voting for yourself and I have no way of telling who voted for you. I really don't want to make this a rule, because people can simply lie and say they didn't vote for themselves.

i have to confess ... I did choose my big gun ... based on IB's choice of Martian Manhunter ... so it is funny we faced off in the first round ...
I saw J'onn and was like "well jeez who the hell can beat THAT!"
I mean the guy turned into a giant dragon to save a jumbo jet from falling in his recent first issue. He took down Ultra Man in about two seconds!
But the rest of my team was organized off of Binary and didn't take into account the other teams ... hence why we will have a Smasher and Ultra Boy face off soon ... which should be about as exciting as watching a cow lick a block of ice.
I was going for something else, but I just hadn't thought about how powerful some one them really were. While I was going to use certain tricks of theirs, their actual power levels were much higher, ruling them out points wise.

My point wasn't that people shouldn't be allowed to vote for themselves (that would put IB in an impossible position in my "TL is very terrible at this" hypothetical posted earlier) but just that they should vote fairly based on merit, which 'voting before both strategies have come in' is obviously not an example of.
I agree with you that there is no way to police this though, so making rules in relation to it would be pointless. I guess we'd just have to rely on trust.

I am going to cite that example when I write up my next strategy
We're doing an Ant-Man scenario for the next round so it will be a lot of fun. Then I think the round after that will involve an additional Challenge drawn from the player's respective rosters.

So I just realized that with my Original Plan for the second match that it would be thoth lad vs. Invisible Brainiac, Power Boy sitting out, and that means there would have to be a re-match between Blacula and myself. Blacula, would you be okay with that scenario or would you prefer if I matched Power Boy with whoever the loser of our match is?

I'm confused as to how this game will progress. I assumed it would be a "round-robin" sort of thing where we each play against each other and then each player with the lowest points drops out as we progress toward the finals. Is that not right?
It seems weird that we're already having a repeat match-up in round 2. Does each player get to play against each other? I don't mind going another round against you Emily, if that's something that everyone has to do at some point, but I'd rather not if it means I never get to have a game against Power Boy for example.
How many rounds do you foresee this game lasting by the way?
Perhaps we should map out the future rounds so we can all see how it will go.
I have to confess I've been very swamped with work lately (I worked six Saturdays since May and even went in on a Sunday once) so I'll be a very poor opponent Although, all of you deserve a good break from thinking of crafty strategies.
