WOW, very intersting! Thanks!
So DC'S earliest chick-heroes were:
(and for this, I am *not* including heroines owned by other companies that DC later bought; am including DC-originating heroines *not villains* only)
1. RED TORNADO
2. HAWKGIRL
3. WONDER WOMAN
Very cool. I'd imagine Black Canary is DC's 4th heroine?

Actually Liberty Belle from STAR-SPANGLED COMICS #20 (MAY 1943).
Black Canary's from FLASH COMICS #86 (AUG 1947).

Red Tornado, Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Liberty Belle, Black Canary.
Got it, thanks!
For some reason, I always thought Libby was a Phantom Lady/Bulletgirl case (bought from another publisher). How cool that she isn't!

If she was a man she would be just peachy for not suffering fools gladly. But because she's a woman she's a bitch. Yeah right.
Katana an 'angry woman with a sword'? That is a very superficial reading of the character. Tatsu is very calm, calculating and ruthless. She certainly should be angry with her past. But in fact she's about the reverse of 'angry'. Sounds like you have a problem with women being forceful in general.
Magenta a whiny little bitch? Frances was a broken damaged person. That was the whole point of her story. Sounds like you missed the point of it. Again with calling women bitches?? Pardon me but I find that offensive as a woman. Why the hatred and contempt for women? I don't see a similar level of venom aimed at male characters here.
And if you think the JLI characters are fit only to be killed off then you missed out on some of the most three dimensional well developed characters (they practically had souls by the end!and then Dan Jurgens came along and they turned into cardboard cutouts overnight *sigh*) that were ever written. Your loss.
*shakes head sadly*
/is of the nobody should be killed off ever almost school of thought/
/is still upset that Ice's death was one of the very few DCU deaths to stick../
/thinks Hal Jordan and Ollie Queen should have stayed dead. And why couldn't Tora have got into that DCU heaven revolving door? And Arisia too! dammit!/ WHOA!!! Chillout!! It was not my intention to ruffle yours or anyone else's feathers. This is supposed to be a fun thread and that was the intent of my post. I do NOT have a problem with forceful women, I do NOT think that all women are bitches, and I do NOT think I deserved that attack! I stated that this was MY wish list. This is a list of characters that I am not fond of for one reason or another and would not be saddened by their deaths. No, I did not like Giffen's JLI, I thought it was cornish and made laughing stocks out of some good characters. Characters like Beetle and Booster who were never the same to me again after JLI. Yes, I think Tinya is a bitch, yes I think Magenta is a whiny manipulator, and yes I find Katana to be an angry woman with a sword! Maybe you interpert some of these characters differently because you perhaps like them. I do not. This is my opinion and it was not my intent to anger you, you forceful woman.
I am smelling like a rose that somebody gave me on my birthday deathbed.

Hmmmm... maybe Ambush Bug should adopt the DEOrphans and fuse them into a force to be reckoned with.
Cheeks can help train them.
I smell an 80-page hardback graphic novel...

Hmm a death list huh? I've never been a fan of either DC or Marvel having such a lage population of super-heroes/villians. It's hard to imagine any being special when there are so many. Batman doesn't inspire awe when he has a dozen or so proteges, not to mention Green Arrow's family of heroes. So my list is more about making the heroes awesome, not any particular hatred.
1) Super Boy/Girl. Tie the Marvel family to Supes, giving him a teen sidekick, a female version, and a ally/sibling rival in the Captain.
2) Wonder Woman's family. Keep Artemis, I like seeing Diana's flaws pointed out. Donna and Cassie take away from her unique place in the DCU. Keep Hippolyta's role as the WWII WW, but lose other superwomen.
3) Non-Bats. Bats started the sidekick thing, he gets to keep them.
4) Anyone who's been dead more in more than one book. I HATE bringing charatcers back. It's not about good storytelling, it's bad writing. We've all heard there's no bad characters. If that's true, why would a writer need to ressurect versus rekindle any character?
And I echo Reboot. Looking stepping back is fine for memories, not for progressing forward.
Just spouting off.

I disagree with most of LegionFan's ideas...but like some. Magneta was a whiny bitch. lol. Anyways, all this Red Tornado talk. hmmm? Maybe DC should kill the android and create a new FEMALE Red Tornado. Not an android though. Maybe a personification of the Red Tornado element thing.

I think that to many folks, that would be a reason to invest in them and to develop them as characters. I agree that Beetle and Booster were never the same after JLI (especially after Booster's character growth in his own series) but I have a feeling that these characters are going to come into their own either during or after IC. In the current JSA issue, the reader is informed that Libery Belle was one of the first female superheroes. Of course, readers of this thread knew that already. Originally posted by MLLASH: Red Tornado, Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Liberty Belle, Black Canary.

Was it Wonder Woman who started the trend of the chick in tights who could really kick ass?
Thanks to Nightcrawler's run-down on an earlier page, that question has been answered!

Thanks to Nightcrawler's run-down on an earlier page, that question has been answered! Reread the previous four pages of this thread LAM for a in depth overview of all [now current] early DC heroines!

Thanks for the reminder guys.
I just updated the post with Rose Psychic and Taia's details. I forgot them the first time around, but I doubt it alters much of what was said later.

A better way to approach this might be with this question:
You're about to reboot the DC Universe. Which are the characters that you must keep?
I think it'll lead to shorter lists.

There are plenty of characters I might actually like seeing bite it, but that'd just be personal preference.
The only one that really comes to my mind in the "should die" list is Superboy, Kon-El. He seems to me so removed from what the concept of the character used to be (a youg Superman rather than a legacy character) that it's just the name that's similar. I felt the same about that Matrix Supergirl as well.

I know people like them, and I've enjoyed them too over the years on occassion (especially PAD's Matrix Supergirl), but I agree with you Drake 100%.
Sorry fellow LWers, but Kon must die.

I've avoided replying on this thread because I don't feel any character really SHOULD be killed off. All of them have a loyal following of fans that would be heartbroken to see their favorite hero die. Think about everyone's reaction to Ted Kord, as an example. Having said that, if any character should be killed off IMO, it should be Batman. He has become a cynical antihero, trusting no one and using everyone to suit his own purposes. I say it's time the blood sucking vampire bat was laid to rest and someone else assumed the mantle of defender of Gotham.

And lets not forget that he's also directly responsible, because of his paranoia and lack of trust, for all the death & destruction caused by Big Brother and the OMACS.

I say it's time the blood sucking vampire bat was laid to rest and someone else assumed the mantle of defender of Gotham. Now Vee, you and I know that Batman and Bruce Wayne will never be killed off. However, I agree that they need to lighten up on the cynical, loner, anti-hero, user. I also wish they dp this whole "urban legend" deal. That was ok for a year one miniseries, but just doesn't work in the long run, especially if he is a member of the Justice League.
