I think that's Mordru's twisted desires talking. He considered Mysa an ugly Hag when she didn't have the touch of his power (i.e., torture - Mordru's a sadist), and a beautiful mystic when subjugated by his power.

Though the language used, of course, was supposed to be a wink to us fans who remember that she was once the Hag.

I think it's ridiculous that Superman tried to justify Superboy-Prime's psychotic state by saying that "he was banished to limbo for years. Who knows what that kind of isolation can do to somebody?" Superboy-Prime was in "limbo" for, what, five years DCU time? I've been in unbearable jobs and relationships for longer than that!

At that point, Mon-El should have said, "Well, I was essentially stuck in limbo for a thousand years, and I didn't go 'a little %$A! crazy'!" (to use Lightning Lad's words)

Clearly Superman is subconsciously feeling protective of Superboy-Prime because he's essentially a younger version of himself.

My favorite exchange of this issue...

Mordru: "Who dares disturb Mordru?"

Superboy-Prime: "Who dares question my dare?"

Mordru: "What?"

Silly humans!

That was a good one, Rody.

I was thinking maybe Mordru considered Mysa a hag in her natural form, but he made her beautiful by making her an albino with antennae. Still, the use of the word "hag" implies she was old and ugly.

Or maybe, in magicianspeak, a hag is a low level sorceress, and a "mystic" is a higher level.

And another thing! smile

I actually like the idea that the reboot Legion are being drawn out of Limbo and that's why they are at that particular exit point in their adventures (explaining the age difference in the Action and reboot Legion when apparently they were of the same age in the previous team up), but I don't see why DC's editorial is so pathetic not to ask Shooter to set the current Legion up for a similar fate from which they would be drawn into this adventure. They could have set him up to have #55 (the issue after his story finished) bring Cos back in time just in time to send them off into a Limbo which would have set it up for L3W.

We should even be seeing Gazelle, Night Girl, Turtle and Sizzle among the 3booters. It's not like anyone is saying or doing anything to spoil the next few months of the main title. The Legions are just extras in this story.

And, I really hate a book setting up a previous continuity by basically ignoring everything about that continuity.

Issue #2 has some of the good and bad points Geoff Johns always does:

- He is good for doing "grand" storylines. I mean, everything is big in here, and this is always true for his Superman (10,000 Kryptonians), GL (Blackest Night), JSA (Magog) and even Booster Gold (can change everything on a whim!). The major problem is this becomes tiresome after a while. He always plays by the same rules in my opinion:

- There is always some serious sacrifice (death), but there is always some sort of rebirth, especially if it is a favorite of his. Keith Giffen is nice to KK compared to Johns' choices.
- Johns doesn't miss his sleep by making gross chronology mistakes or incongruencies. I mean, his Action Legion is full of big gaps that make TMK almost easy to follow. His rule is: bend it to whatever his needs are for that story. Sometimes they work, sometimes they cringe. The limbo factor work, threeboot simply doesn't make any sense at all.

I don't like his chracterizations here, they almost border on caricaturical versions of them:

Polar Boy: do-good positive
Mysa: always suffering
Garth: hot head
Brainy: egoistical clone of Vril Dox
and so forth.

I also found the reduction of Threeboot Brainy to a "spoiled brat" absolutely out of character to what Shooter did to him. He is just not a dumbass kid.

Again, this is not a Legion story so far - it's a Geoff Johns Universe story, in which he is proposing to bring his vision to the Legion. It surely sounds there will be an amalgamated version of it coming soon (always according to his rules!). And this is the sort of thing that will only create more messy chronology, more fan rebuttal and more confusion to the properties. At this point, Waid and Kitson's plans were more to what I think would be a better solution.

I have, however, nothing to add to Pérez and Koblish work here than to say it is genius. Pérez and Giffen are the only master storytellers currently on DCU. You don't need a single baloon to grasp the story and feel yourself immersed in it. It makes L3W so much better than it actually is.

Now, I really would love to see this kind of art in the hands of a writer like Shooter. A writer who is not repeating himself over and over. And not doing run-of-the=mill death scenes to save what is actually a run-of-the-mill encounter of heroes and villains. The 5-year-gap managed to be radical without resorting to this sort of cheap battle scenes. I am probably too old for this sort of "action" book...

Sorry about the rant. I'd give this issue 10 to the art and 6 to the writing.

Is Johns thinking of the reboot White Witch who was also a hag when we first met her?

The series is moving along quite nicely and I eagerly await the third installment.
Just so long as ONE version of Dream Girl makes it on the team after the smoke clears I'll be a happy customer.

Two things I noticed about the reboot team:

Weren't a few of the Legionnaires missing when the team went into Limbo? I thought for sure Gates and a few others weren't in that group (They mentioned they were injured and back at HQ during the Titans/Legion Special).

Everyone seems to be in the state we last left them except for Andromeda. She's back to her pre-nun and pre-anomaly look (and how'd she end up with the team in Limbo anyway?)

The art was amazing. The story very exciting.

But like with many here I see some serious issues. Lightning Lad acting like a 16 year old hot head? What are the other two Lightning Lads going to act like?

It just bothers me that Tharok is back. Just to make it a classic Fatal Five. He's just an extra! Why do a retcon for an extra?

Sodom Yat is a very cool character that should stay in the GL stories. While I always thought the Legion should have some GL ties...this is too much, IMO.

Overall, I was hoping to have three different Legions in their own parallel universe at the end of this. BUT I am really getting scared of a frankenstein Legion of all eras. We've talked about it before here. It sounds like a really fun fanfic but it will be really confusing for a title.

I was gonna say that didn't he do a bit of a freak out when he was going to be projected back in the zone in LSH (v.3) issue 23 but that's post crisis legion.

But on the other hand it was GLORIOUS to see Blok alive after his death in LsH(v4) 3 and that his love for Mysa is intact...Since we're this is the pre-crisis legion. We have to remind outselves that there's no Ameyest (i hate mispelling but u know who i mean) connection to Mysa here. I just hope we can see Mysa put the slap down on Mordru and make him pay for his part in Rond's death...and hmmmm I wonder if Rond's really gonna stay dead..after all he does have a child...and we dont know who the mom is...wouldn't it be ironic if it was Laurel Kent...non manhunter..but still Kal-EL's and Lois' desendant thus reestablishing what was broken by the Crisis.

Also i just thought of it...*by the way is there a JSA thread around because we do have to talk about Starman here* What does everyone think of Thom's comments in the lastest issue...do they have bearing on what's happening with the L3worlds after all there is a team going to the 2lst century and we know Thom is there.

Okay, I don't remember that story, but I'll take your word for it. But either way, it's not what Mordru says happened in this issue. He says he transformed her from the Hag into a beauty, not the other way around.

Oh i remember that story i remember him cutting his finger and letting the drops of blood fall into her testing fire which would show the real her. When she put her hand in it and the hag came out she got banished from xerox because everyone *the leaders* thought she was wicked and not mordru who was one of them...kinda like no one had any idea who Senator Palptine was....but oh they had such problems with Anakin ROFL.

Possible Legion of 3 worlds tie in?

Justice Society of America 19

Starman and Mr. Terrfic are having a conversation about why it's bad for him to be cured of his sanity.

Starman: That's just it. When Gog 'cured' me of my schizophrenia he left me vulnerable.

Mr. Terrific : How so?

Starman: My Mind was a maze. Even a telepath at Martin Manhunter's level would have found it difficult to venture through. But now? Now my Mission could be exposed. The Entire 31st Century is depending on me.

Mr. Terrific : If it's that vital, Starman, let us help you. Tell us wha--

Starman: I can't. But you don't know the worse part about this. I don't think I can go through with it not unless I'm out of my damn mind.

Also another clue...

Power Girl while on Earth 2 is talking to that version of Mr. Terrific who never became a superhero...and hmmm he says this.

Michael: You mentioned one of your friends. You said he was able to open a black hole from one world to another. (which somehow later on they tapped into his power and got Power Girl back to New Earth with the JSI following her) now...somehow i think Starman is intrigal to L3worlds...anyone else caught this and went hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I've really enjoyed issue 2! Best Legion story i've read in a very very long time.
There ARE some issues, like characters behaving totally out of characters compared to pre-boot Legionnaires (Garth being the worse!) but it does feel like a Legion story.

Waiting eagerly for issue 3 now.

So Rond Vidar has a son? Universo says something about *his* son not making the same mistakes as he (he being Rond) did at one point.

As usual, the characterization is appalling and the continuity a bad joke from yet another incredibly popular hack who doesn't care enough about the properties he works with or their fans to bother to get things right, and I'm only really loving the artwork. Perez remains the master of backgrounds and lots and lots of people on a page.

Seeing Ol-Vir and Earth-Man playing tug of war with Night Girl scared me... Hope she, against all plausibility, survived!

I kind of liked Rond being one of many 30th century Green Lanterns, only not allowed around Earth due to some ancient disagreement. But that's been retconned away now and this Sodam Boring character brought in with a glorious full-page splash, for all of the Legion fans who have been clamoring to see a subplot devoted to some dude that's never been part of even the most peripheral Legion continuity...

Ugh.

Glorious artwork, but it's a shiny candy coating over something rotten.

Sodam Yat himself wasn't part of Legion continuity, but the Daxamite race is primarily a Legion-verse property.

I don't think the characterization is a hack job. I think Geoff has his reasons. He is trying to reintroduce the Legion to new readers. Sure I hate seeing Garth act like that and again what are the younger Garth's going to act like? But I think he has his reasons for everything and isn't doing a hack job.

I think calling Geoff Johns a hack is way off. Same goes for Brian Bendis. Johns is one of the very best writers currently in comics right now. I'm not President of his fan club (see my previous comments about where I think he got it wrong), but he's definitely no hack. His work on Green Lantern, Booster Gold, Flash and JSA have been nothing short of excellent.

Also, he's never once sold this as purely a Legion project--he's admitted from Day 1 its a DCU-wide project. I'd *prefer* it was a Legion project first and foremost, but he's been very up front about what we're getting.

If Perez' pace continues, that puts #5 coming out in April 2009.

Date for a projected current series 54, the number at which Shooter's initial outline would've ended?

May 2009.

C'mon, finish the man's story.

As for the 'rest'? Why not fill those months (however long there'll be-- I don't think it'll be too long, but who knows?) with the conclusion of DNA's truncated story? Or a tie-up-the-loose ends of 5YL special... or a Black Dawn mini-series?

Or how about a new 'Secrets of the LSH' mini-series, with profiles, updates and teasers geared to whatever will be published in the Legion's future?

That one could even be online...

What property has the next big anniversary? I hope they get a more cohesive plan than the Legion's been shown to have, thus far.

I know I'll kind of resent the next celebrant, if it's really well done- no matter who or what it is.

If you want the definition of "hack," take a look in the dictionary: there's a picture of Judd Winick!

I could pick at things--certainly, it was disconcerting to see so much GL mythos get interjected--but I'll try to just highlight what I enjoyed.

I enjoyed Dawnstar, Blok, White Witch, and Wildfire. I wonder if Wildfire might ever realize that, if Dawnstar were to follow her heart, it might not lead to him.

I enjoyed what Rond as GL brought to the team--not just what was shown, but the potential adventures he's had with them that we haven't heard about.

I enjoyed the depth bestowed on Rokk as "leader so others won't have to." That's probably the first time I've ever even appreciated his leadership.

I enjoyed the attention given Saturn Queen, whom I've never before felt was even given a character.

And, although I'm not a big fan of Brainy-being-a-drama-queen scenes, I had to enjoy the exchange: "Oh, why don't you get a haircut!" "I'm VERY busy!"

That's an extremely weak connection. Not to mention the fact that the GLC and the Guardians have been established as being whole and hardy in the future that this version of DCU reality is supposedly based upon.
