If the drones don't do as they are told, it's the bees knees that Zazzala threatens.

Especially if Macklemore is in the thrift shop Macklemore? Isn't he the white rapper who all but admitted to being a culture pirate?

While it's not my fave, I kinda like it. I like the lyrics, for sure. I listen to it once every few months.

Thought about clicking the link. But if I want an earworm, I'll read a Mr Mind story.

What a perfect opportunity for me to once again plug Shazam Volume 3, by E. Nelson Bridwell & Don Newton!

Is that the 70s DC run? Or is this the reprint Vol 3 with stories from World's Finest Comics?

I saw Byrne's very nice 2 pages of a 1980s relaunch for Cap. His pitch had Fawcett being separate from the rest of the books. DC agreed, but so soon after Crisis, they went back on that, telling Byrne that Cap would be in the new JL. Byrne went no further with it. Cap was in 7 issues of JL. He started off Legends, a role that was originally going to be WW, but it would have got in the way of her relaunch.

There are so many ways the Post-Crisis DCU might have been much better than it actually turned out. Having said that, I greatly enjoyed Legends the last time I reread it.

Yeah, making Fawcett it's own reality would seem to go against the entire point of Crisis, even if it would've been a much better udea.

the post-Legends Justice League seemed quite a victim of editorial meddling, especially regarding individual character book developments.
Besides Captain Marvel, we had Doctor Fate and Batman quitting soon after. (The Batman one was odd as he popped in and out for a bit). Doctor Light left in issue 4, only to make small appearances as a member of the Japan embassy staff. Black Canary also disappeared after events in her/Green Arrow's book, I think...
and when JL Europe was formed, Wonder Woman disappeared after the first issue (with someone even making an in-book comment, about the lack of courtesy of not telling the League she was no longer interested!)
Animal Man also disappeared due to events in his own book, I believe.
Later on you have Max Lord pushing the Huntress into joining for a while, and she left soon after realizing she was coerced.
whew. keeping track of all of these is tough!

JL editor Andy Helter had the idea for where the book would be going when he took over during Conway's run. Crisis and the relaunching titles pushed it all back.
By the time the Crisis of the Soul project became Legends, he had as strong a line up as possible in there. He got to hold onto that for the launch before the DCU took characters away.
The projects for solo comics, is one of the main reasons for Conway's Justice League Detroit. With a new DCU in play, there were even more relaunches going on. Giffen and DeMatteis then found their own settled team, just as Helfer's JLI reached fruition.

Thoth, did Helfer give any details about his original plans for JLA's direction?

The idea of an international team was there from the start for Helfer. There was a suggestion that nearly everyone could be a member. This was something that was used much later. But in this context was more about the expansion we saw in JLI.

Thanks, Thoth. I'm actually surprised, considering how badly the Global Guardians were treated under Helfer's watch.

The subtext with the Global Guardians was that they were running perfectly fine until pushed out of the way by a global superpower. And not one, as written here, that had much in the way of success. Giffen and DeMatteis' take on superpower foreign policy.
