After two months in the hospital and rehab, my father-in-law is home again. He had to have major surgery twice. Had to have an ostomy bag and peg tube put in. He has had OT, PT, Speech Therapist and visiting nurses. Major adjustment in his life but he still has a lot of independence. He lives above us. Can go up and down the front stairs. Still unable to use the back stairs to the basement (where his work area is for his hobbies - they are very narrow and steep). We lost his wife just last July so we were very worried. We still have to do his major cleaning, laundry, shopping and take him to doctor appointments. We are making it work. Both of us are home most of the time so if there is an emergency we can respond quickly. Oh that's great news! You all have been dealing with this for a while now, so its great to hear that he's out of the hospital.

Excellent, J. Glad to hear it. My uncle has had a permanent colostomy for nearly fifty years now. Just hang in there. And you a damn good sentient for sticking the way you have.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

We fought to maintain his independence. Health care seems to write off those 75+ too easily. I mean he changed a tire in the grocery store parking lot the day before he went to the hospital. They came bearing pamphlets for care services (i.e., nursing homes. assisted living communities) failing to realize he wants to be home. And he is capable for the most part. Just needs assistance with lifting, etc.

Glory be praise. I got a new seat in the truck. This one isn't like sitting on a flat iron plate that leans to the right. After four days on the road, I got home tonight and was just sore, not in actual pain. Listen, I've lived with pain for over 30 years now, I know how to handle it, but that was starting to get to me. This is just...I really can't say. This is the first time I haven't been in back pain in nearly two years. Sometimes it really is the small things.

Good news Rick! It's sometimes the little comforts that make life worth while (although I'm not sure I'd call the seat you sit on for hours being a "little comfort". Sounds pretty important to me). Glad you got it replaced.

Glad to hear that your back has been helped by the new seat. I can't imagine the constant pain and discomfort of the old one.

Took Carol and Sam to see Clue at the Florence Little Theatre. We had a blast. Afterwards Carol and I both said "what's the next fun thing?" and then we both said "electricity and food".
But, we had a great time, they did a really good job. And the little kid behind me that laughed the entire time was hysterical. I laughed as much at his having fun as the actors. Really good night.
Carol's been taking care of me, her mom, my mom and sister, our son, the pets....I'd been wracking my brains to come up with something to show my appreciation, saw the advert on a billboard, and it hit me like a rock.
Lots of fun.

Great idea Rick, and glad you had such a good night. I took my dad to see Spike a week or so back. It's about comedian Spike Milligan. It's mainly set around the stresses of writing the Goon Show, but shows how WWII impacted him. But lots of laughs. Not least as each section started off with someone recreating the comedy sound effects used in radio shows. She was excellent, and the audience's favourite. My dad has always been a big Milligan fan, so it was nice to take him along to it.

Rick, Thoth, glad to hear both you guys went to fun shows recently.
My thing to crow about: one of my coworkers is inviting the whole staff to lunch on Thanksgiving day. Two fun meals to look forward to in one day!

Thank you, Ibby.
More work-related crowing: Yesterday, I had been planning to complain to the manager about a co-worker who has been very petty and passive-aggressive lately, but in the end I realized it would only make things worse and it would lower me to her level. I'm proud that I made the mature decision.

Well done Ann. Move ahead of them in what you do each day, and they can passive aggressively watch your dust.
I have side stepped dealing with someone I was warned of as back-stabby. I gave him the background to what he needed, and just let him run with it. Happy not to be looking for credit, as those above me know how much I'm doing.
The last time I worked with him, things were agreed at a meeting, but off he went in his own direction near a deadline, that would have sunk it. I just pushed forward with what we all agreed and got it over the line. He wasn't best pleased, no doubt. But there's a time and place for what he did, and we'd long since moved past it.

Not really me, but my wife, Carol, has finished another book.
*No, I don't know what it's about. I don't read her stuff because then she might ask me about it.
Remember those "thick headed?" commercials from a few years back? Yeah...so do I. I ain't gonna be that idjit. Only the most banal comment might make it through the shredder, and then it would trip the bullshitometer and I'd still be in it.
**No, she's really good. I just have very particular tastes, so I'd be bound to do or say sum'in stoopid. Therefore, she writes, I don't read, but I encourage her completely.
