You know, I've never really been a big fan of Mary Marvel in general, but I have to say that Bob Oskner (sp?) really did a nice job with her.
She just looks Marvelously cute in his artwork... whether it's giggling from being "tickled" by a hail of gunfire or giving an over the shoulder coy smile as a bad guy scratches her back with a rapier, Mary definitely has a nice look ... and displays more personality in most of the appearances I've seen her in. She seems to really enjoy her powers in a way that you just don't see in comics these days...

I'm leaving work in like 45 seconds to go buy this (as well as my pulls!).

Mary IS a cutie pie.
As fun as the Mary and JR. stories were, the real charm of this sowcase are the delightfully bizzare Capt Marvel (Billy) stories.
I think you'll like it Lash.

I'm only on the 3rd issue of the SHAZAM showcase but I'm really loving it so far! Sunny Sparkle is kewl!
I *LOVED* how they explained the Marvel Family's absence from the 50s to the 70s, and now it seems that they are going to actually USE the theme in other stories.
And I didn't realize CC Beck drew those early issues! (the only ones I have read previously were from he latter part of the run, shoty before it was cancelled)

Sunny Sparkle is just about the greatest comics character ever!
It's like... you'd think he'd be really annoying, but he's just so gosh darn likeable!

Did you see "Mr. Binder" in the first isuse? 8-)
Aside from my crush on Mary, I have to admit that I really like Tawky Tawny as well.

Still quite enjoying this, but what's up with the omitted issues? Reprints?
I believe I have tattered old copies of the issues where a giant smacks Cap through a building on the cover and the one where he is lifting an entire city on the cover. I'll have to investigate.

I think the omitted issues are reprints of old Fawcett stuff.

I suspected so, but wasn't sure. They sure did quite a few reprint issues back-to-back.
Fun surprise: The early Dave Cockrum artwork on the Capt. Marvel Jr. story.
Sunny Sparkle continues to be a semi-regular presence.
And finally-- tonight I'll read the Black Adam story!
