haven't been around for a long while ... I stop reading the Legion when the last series ended ... I had a chance to read the 1st six issues the other day, and I thought they were absolute crap ... I saw nothing reminiscent of the Legion that I loved for over 25 years ... is anyone enjoying the new series? Am I missing something?

Are you missing something? Probably not the new legion is not to everyones taste.

Is anyone enjoying the new series? A lot of people seem to be, especially if the sales numbers are anything to go by. Me I love this version, especially the artwork. Sure there have been some issues which havew been weaker than others, but thats only to be expected, after all even in the Adventure days some stories were better than others.

Change is seldom seen as a good thing at the start. Especially when there's 25 years of history behind us.
Unless everything has somehow gone tits up and a new start is NEEDED.

So, you're comparing change against nostalgia.

Change hasn't got much of a chance.

It's taken a while, but the latest issues seem to be getting more positive vibes from legionworld.

The artwork is generally seen as superb, but most people seem to have been complaining about

a/ the characters changing
b/ their favourites not appearing (yet).

Because I don't have the same investment in the historical side as a lot of people around here my view is - let them tell THEIR stories.
And accept that it ain't going to be exactly the same as it was before.

BTW it's good to see you aroound here Sharky - I hope you decide to stay awhile.

I didn't look at it so much as comparing change against nostalia, but I suppose that was unavoidable ... I didn't like the premise, the whole teens versus the adults angle ... also, in a lot of those first issues, it seemed like the characters were standing around as if they were posing in a magazine ... it's a shame, really, because I've always turned to comic books, the Legion in particular, when I've needed some escapism ... this version, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be what the doctor ordered ...

SL, I was initially optimisticabout the new book. I love the art; but the stories haven't been the strongest. I don't hate the new book, but it didn't grab me the way other eras (Sherman, Broderick, Giffen, DnA, for instance) did.

Basically, if I were where I was three years ago, wondering whether to rejoin LSH fandom, this book wouldn't have brought me back in.

I'm glad a Legion book is doing well, but I don't see anything that really warranted a full ret-con. I no longer count the days/weeks to when a new issue comes out, but I'm not going to drop the book at this point.

I pretty much agree with what Kent says. I'm a bit late with my reading, I've only got up to #14...I've been MEGA skint recently and so the newer issues have been in my standing order file waiting to be picked up.(Steve. I'll be in next week, I PROMISE)

I sat and re read all 14 issues back to back, on my day off last week and...they were okay. My biggest problem with it is, no one seems to be having fun. I know they've just come through a war but, they all seem to hate each other. It's like you said SL, they all seem to be a bunch of arrogant poseurs (or should that be Poozers).

I just DON'T LIKE a lot of the Legionnaires any more. Maybe Supergirl has added a, much needed, spirit of optimism to the book. Like I said I haven't read them yet, but things do seem to be easing up a bit. There was some nice interplay between the characters in #14: Vi and Lyle together and the others at Gims place was nice.

It IS different but, it IS still the Legion.

I'm going to stick with it a while.

As for the Legion, I'm currently enjoying the new series. To be 100% honest however, I'm still longing for the 'real' Legion, but this one has captured my interest pretty well so far.

Sigh... there are just not enough dorsal fins on Legion World...

Won't the water make those robes heavy? You can borrow a bathing suit if you'd like. I have several that are cut and colored especially to compliment Sharky's dorsal fin
