WARNING: If you haven't seen Season Two or any of the series but plan to some day, I STRONGLY recommend you skip this thread! - - - - - -
Awright guys, as I suggested a while back, we will try to guess who among the surviving cast of Walking Dead Season Two will not see Season Four because they become zombie chow or die in the upcoming war with Woodbury (or some other less interesting cause of death )!
The choices will include only the characters seen by the end of Season Two. So Michonne will be in it, and so will Merle (who's been prominently announced), but the Governor will not be in it as he hasn't appeared yet. I'm also leaving out Duane, Morgan and Morales (and his family) who haven't appeared since Season One because there's been no indication that any of these will appear in Season Three. I'm not ruling out any of their returns but want to make this a fairly small and reasonable list.
I'm having participants choose up to three characters because that's how many main or recurring characters from Season One that we lost in Season Two: specifically, Shane, Dale and Sophia. There may very well be much more fatalities (or even fewer...who knows?) among this list given what is likely to be an elevated level of carnage with a rival group being involved. But we're using Season Two as our measuring stick.
Don't be afraid to choose a mixture of what would seem easy choices and bold ones. I mean, who saw Dale's death coming, right?
This will be fun to look back at for us TWD fans as we see how dead-on or far-off we were in our choices!

This poll will run until the eve of the Season Three premiere to allow as many participants as possible and to keep the excitement building!
Note: I also didn't include any of the nursing home characters we saw in the episode "Vatos" (or incidental friends of Randall barely seen in Season Two, etc.) for similar reasons that I left out Morgan and some of the others. I personally think it would be AWESOME if some of them pop up, though! (I mean what if Morales and family are in Woodbury?!?! The implications.... )
Can't WAIT to see how this goes! And PLEASE feel free to discuss your choices in this thread!

BETH... At first, I thought it was a miracle she made it through season 2. But then I realized something: I predict she will take the place of what happens to Patricia and/or to Herschel's twin daughters in the prison.
T-DOG... He's a goner because I think Tyrese is going to be introduced inside the prison.
MERLE... I predict death served cold from Darryl at some point, after Darryl temporarily switches loyalties back to Merle.
RUNNERS-UP (I didn't select but probably should have):
HERSCHEL... His surviving Season 2 was a (delightful) surprise, but he won't make it out of the prison.
CAROL... I'd like to think she won't share her comic-counterpart's fate, but I think this plot will be following the comic's storyline.
Merle, well, seems pretty obvious as the only bad guy in the bunch.
Hershel was originally going to die in the S2 finale, so I suspect it was a mere stay of execution. I hope he lives long enough to plant crops on the prison grounds as he did in the comic. Plus, the actor who plays him had a publicized DUI this summer. That used to be the kiss of death for some actors on Lost!
Lori is my pick for a top-tier character to die this season. The comic readers may appreciate why I chose her.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Beth, Carol or T-Dog** die, but they're all such obvious cannon fodder that I chose to leave them out. Plus, only three choices, yo!
**Also, holding out for that pet theory of ours that T-Dog makes it all the way to the end, possibly without ever having had any real character development or shining moment!

Herschel - He will die saving Maggie or Glenn. Carol - Merle kills her to get at Darryl, which leads to... Merle - Taken out in horrific fashion by Darryl, who is hurt pretty good in the throw down. Ending Season three with a cliffhanger.
How's that for trying to randomly guess from millions of possible possibilities?

That would be beyond hilarious. He just appears in half the episodes or so and does nothing...last man standing. Final scene of the series...T-Dog standing alone after an epic battle which kills every remaining character. He stands up and says, "Well, I didn't expect this."

Since I am certain Tyreese is showing up, this means the kiss of death for T-Dog, as it is well-documented that two brothas cannot co-exist together outside of blaxploitation films.

I would hope that there would be room for three black characters (T-Dog, Michonne and potentially Tyreese) among the main and recurring cast, but you may be right.
Why are you so sure Tyreese will show up this season? Is it because of the nondenials Kirkman and others give when the questions about him are asked? A gut feeling? Something more solid?
Another interesting question to ponder is whether Season Three will comprise the entirety of the Prison/Woodbury arc or if it'll extend into Season Four. If the latter, deaths which may (or may not) mirror the comic book may be put off a bit longer. My gut feeling is that it's the former, but I haven't read anything definitive from Kirkman or anyone else.

Nothing solid for sure. I think Kirkman has been coy about Tyreese because his backstory has been altered. I honestly think he will be one of the folks inside the prison, and the TWD TV team have gone out of their way to keep this surprise.

I *will* say this much: if they have thrown out the VASTLY superior character of Tyreese in favor of the (by comparison) incredibly lame character of T-Dog, I nominate that for "MOST BONEHEADED DECISION" 2012-13.

I will agree to an extent. Like i said above, there's NO reason that the two couldn't co-exist, other than the perception (true or false)that tokenism would be the deciding factor. I'd be very happy to have both characters at the same time, especially if they give T-Dog some much-needed development.
After all this time, by the way, I'd still rank Tyreese my Number One Fave TWD character from the comic! I sincerely hope he is brought into the series, so long as he's not a token black character, as T-Dog has seemed to be nothing more than such to this point.

I wonder if we'd WANT Tyreese to be written in as an inmate? I kinda like him the way he was introdused in the comic: ex-pro NFL player with his daughter and her boyfriend.
Speaking of inmates, Kirkman will NEVER here the end of it if we don't see another of his much-missed and uniquely delightful characters from the comic show up there. "You follow me?"

While I agree it is a shame to lose the comic-origin of Tyreese (and those that came with him), I also feel like the window for introducing him is closing rapidly. He's a HUGE part of the prison storyarc, and could be shoehorned in as an inmate with minimal "damage" to his comic origins... maybe an ex-NFL player serving a white-collar-type sentence?
and
I FOLLOW YOU!!! I did read Kirkman totally regretted killing that character far too soon.
