It is almost my favorite time of the year - postseason baseball! Win or go home!
Actually, this year has been a little dull, since - unless something dramatic happens - the teams going to the postseason could have been picked weeks ago. Anyway, once we find out who officially goes to the postseason, I will post my bracket, and I want to see yours too!

Well, I'd say there's quite a bit of suspense over whether the Braves and Red Sox can hold on to their Wild Card spots. I'll bet the division winners are rooting for them to eke their ways in because neither is likely to do much in the playoffs if they make it.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Yeah, the Rays are more worrisome than the Red Sox. But I still want the Yanks to kill 'em this weekend (rather they ruin their season and face the Rays than lose to the Res Sox now).

Go TIGERS!!!
The rest can stay home.

*thinks about braves...
Do I hear "Taps!"? in the background?
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Lardy, my apologies. The Rays are now tied with Boston. Boston plays Baltimore, while the Rays have to play the Yankees.
Atlanta is a game ahead of St. Louis, but the Braves have to play the Phillies, while the Cards get to play Houston. Could be an exciting end of the season after all!
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yeah, it's like the Braves and Red Sox have just forgotten how to win! I know there's pitching problems, but DAY-um!
Posted by rickshaw1 on :
It's tha swoon, I tells ya! Tha SWOON!
Honestly, I can't watch the braves right now. I knew after the first couple of games of september that they were gonna pull a fast fade, and I was right. You can set your watch by it. In the league's rankings right now, the braves are a C club that keeps trying to make the jump to B ball but never quite getting the needed pieces.
Say what you will, at least Ted would go out and try to get major players. We only get guys past their primes hopping for one last good quarter season outta them (derek Lee) and it fails, or some no name guys that don't gel with the club and break the rhythm that they set up to win with .
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Wow - I am surprised! Ties in both Leagues for the wild card spots! Gettin' pretty excitin'!
Posted by rickshaw1 on :
Watchin b's now.
Posted by Dev - Em on :
Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!! Go TIGERS!!!
Oh yeah...now, who will we destroy first?
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Um, Dev, not to rain on your parade, but when the Tigers went to the World Series a few years ago, they played the worst defense since..well, since the last time the Cubs were in the postseason.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
It's over--Rays and Cards in, BoSox and Braves out. Wotta night!

Wow. Sitting in Tampa...I was on a long conference call for work...watching the game in the background. I was born and raised in Tampa...still live here.
That was amazing. I felt like I was 12 years old again for a minute.

This is not that team though. Best Pitcher, best hitter. Just sayin...
Doesn't guarantee anything...but c'mon.

Braves seemed to keep trading down instead of up. Bats went to sleep, pitching was off.

I started this thread, so I guess I had better get my bracket in.
American League
Rays over Texas New York over Detroit
New York over Rays
National League
Phillies over St. Louis Milwaukee over Arizona
Milwaukee beats the Phils, and the Brewers take it all this year.
After every round, we all get to make new brackets too.
Posted by Dev - Em on :
DETROIT!!!!!
Bring on Texas!
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Well, Lance, your American League bracket is completely shot! We'll see if the home teams can pull it out tonight in the NL.
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Ha! I noticed that too! I'm not doing any better here than I have been with college football.
Just a point of interest - a few years ago I actually overcame the 128-1 odds, and I picked every single series - wrong. Here's hoping I don't do that again.
The plus side is, as long as I get just one series right, I'll have the best result on this thread.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yeah, I meant to pick with ya but forgot. I'm not sure who I would've picked in hindsight, but I doubt I would've picked against the Yanks. Maybe we can re-pick for the LCS's and WS?
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Sure. In the past, we have done new brackets every round. Extra bragging rights go to whomever doesn't need to make a new bracket.
Posted by Dev - Em on :
ALCS
Tigers over Rangers.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
I'll take Rangers over Tigers for the ALCS and Cardinals over Brewers in the NLCS. And I'll take the Rangers to win it all.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
So...Philly's Dream Team bites the dust tonight. Pretty funny!
Posted by Dev - Em on :
Tigers over Rangers.
St. Louis over Brewers.
Tigers take it in the World Series.
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Hey, I actually got one right! Woo-hoo!
Ok, new bracket:
Brewers over St. Louis.
Tigers beat Rangers.
Milwaukee still wins it all this year.

Usually when the Yankees lose, baseball is dead to me until the spring (damn A-Rod, Tex and Swisher can't get it done when it actually counts), but I watched that Cards / Phillies game last night and was on the edge of my seat. Very rare to see an exciting pitchers duel but that's what it was--exciting!
My wife's family are all Cards fans (Dad from Illinois) so it was exciting for them. I've enjoyed watching the Phillies too...very good match up.
Now that the Tigers beat the Yankees, I may be rooting for them to win the ALCS. I'm funny like that...they proved themselves to me, while my favorite team blew it. Anything less than the World Series equals the season being a complete failure up here. Bah.
Posted by Dev - Em on :
What I love about the playoffs...announcers that spent the entire series saying what the Yankees needed to do to take Detroit out, and then when they finally lost, letting us know what the Yankees did wrong. How about the Tigers are better than any of y'all thought?
It was a great series, with some nail biters...
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Cobie, once the Yankees were eliminated, I thought about sending you a sympathy card. "Sorry for your loss" or something like that...
Ah, well, at least your team makes the post-season. We Cubs fans just hope for a team that breaks .500.
Posted by lancesrealm on :
*sigh* I am in danger of getting both of my picks wrong. There are reasons why I am not a professional gambler...
Posted by lancesrealm on :
*heavy sigh* I am 1 outta 6 so far. I don't know why I am bothering, but here goes:
Cards over Rangers
Posted by lancesrealm on :
Oh, and congrats to Lardy for picking both League winners!
I am so jealous...
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Thanks! I just went with my gut on those two.
I'll take Rangers over Cards.
Posted by Dev - Em on :
I'm going with the Rangers.
>sigh<
Posted by lancesrealm on :
I swear, I was laughing out loud at the mistakes in this game. My wife thought I was watching Abbott & Costello...
