My prediction for first voted off: the self-described "fit Sarah Palin".
Lots of hotness this year...

Very attractive cast ... to quote Kathy Griffin, "Where are my gays?"
Very excited! My money is on Russell H, but that may be too predictable especially after JT won last season ...
meanwhile, a contestant on Survivor Bulgaria died(!) All things considered, it's amazing no one on an American series has gotten seriously hurt ...

actually somebody did get hurt once - and had to lift off to go home to recover. His name is Michael - he collapsed in front of the fire and his hands were burned. Miraculously, he recovered and his hands are fine.

I can't wait till Russell H. gets his comeuppance. Things started to slip out of his hands when his little racist henchman got voted out.
I can't decide if I like Shambo, or if she's a big joke.

Jaison has turned out to be a great player ...
Problem with Survivor is that you don't really get to know the winning tribe members when they're on a streak ... there are a few players on Galu I'd like to see more of ...

Awesome blindside! Loved Erik, but he came off like such a tool at tribal council ... I hope Russell is next ...

Me too! I'm watching now.... an incredible turn of events complicates the Russell-out scenario for tonight...
I wasn't even aware she existed until a couple of episodes ago, but I'm digging Laura!

WHAT A CRAP WAY TO GO!!!!
Posted by Lardi on :
I, for one, LOVE Russell! Survivor's a lot more interesting while the villains are still in and usually very boring once they're gone. I just admire great game play, and Russell's one of the best. Too many contestants just slide into their victories by riding coat tails and crap. Every week Russell advances, you've just gotta give the man props.

I still can't tell half of the castaways apart, which indicates what a (for the most part) boring cast this has been ... how did Mick, John, and Brett ever make it on there?
We'll see how far Russell makes it ... the hidden immunity idol thing is ridiculous! They don't even bury it anymore?!?
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
He found a third one!!!! I hope they retire the hidden immunity idol after this season. I think they've gotten all the mileage they can out of them.
I still don't really like Russell, but I can't help but admire his tenacity. And his luck.
I want to see more of Mick and the rocket scientist and the other young guy (Bret?). Can't help but think that some of those guys will be in the final survivors, as often it's not the camera hogs of the beginning or middle period that stick around the longest.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
I loved that moment when Russell produced the second immunity idol. Made me laugh out loud...
Either the rocket scientst is going to win or go out a total stooge.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
I think that the Survivors made a mistake of placing all 3 idols on the islands instead of splitting three ways - one in exile, one in one camp, and one in another camp...so that's fair game to play.
All three idols...I never liked Russell, and he's a cheater and does not respect the game as well as others... i really hope that he will get voted off sooner. but I fear that Russell will be in the final four.
many players are not that smart....needless to say. Lack of strategy and how to keep mouth shut in front of Russell. Russell took advantage of that big time.
I hope that there will be a karmic effect on Russell.

You nailed that one! I'm glad the flipflopper got the boot this week!
Russell's way too mysoginistic for me to want him to win. Shambo has pretty much become ballast in my eyes. I hope one of them goes next too, Sharky. Jaison is too smirky for my tastes, and Mick is a total unknown to me, making me not care anything about him.
At this point, I'm for Bret, Monica or Natalie.
Posted by CJ Taylor on :
I don't like Russel's attitude, but he has played the game better than anyone. He's crafty, but I wouldn't call him smart. And that's what will lose the game for him... he thinks he's smarter than he is.
Of the remaining people, only Dave has played as well. But he's also not someone I'm liking. This season has been full of nobodys.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Heh! Watching Russell sweat for a minute was quite delicious.
LOVED when Brett got immunity and messed up Russell's plan.

I hope Galu goes down in Survivor history as the STUPIDEST TEAM EVER, letting themselves be wiped out when they started with an 8-4 majority.
Posted by CJ Taylor on :
Lash, I don't want get myself in trouble here. But I have to remind you of the year Survivor had the battle of the sexes, and the women had a 7-1 advantage post merge.
And still lost to a man.
Posted by Lardi on :
Good episode! I liked how there were signs of players OTHER than Russell showing they have some game, too. For such a smart player, I can't believe he let other people know about his personal fortune. That's ultimately gonna be why he doesn't win this season, regardless of whether he goes to the finale or not. Seems Russell's ego trumps his game play and his street smarts. That's his fatal flaw.
The million will go to Jaison (or Brett if he can continue winning immunity), I think. Mick's gonna self-destruct with his insecurity. Natalie's gonna be targeted for being too lovable and not make the final. Shambo's just too much of a Judas in the eyes of those Galus and a tool for the rest.
Agree with my assessment? Who do you guys think wins, and what's your reasoning?
Posted by MLLASH on :
Whoa, Ceej! I didn't see that season-- I became a SURVIVOR fan later on. Can hardly believe that happened...!
Posted by MLLASH on :
Lardi, I agree Russell's a no-win situation. He has as much chance of winning as Coach did last season.
Jaison is a safe bet for the win, I think... though I'd prefer Monica, Nat or Brett.

I guess I just really favor strategic game play over the "social game" but, honestly, I can't fathom how the vote went the way it did.
Oh, well:
Click Here For A SpoilerIn any case, Russell's one of those back for another shot in Season 20! Posted by MLLASH on :
I just saw the finale ON DEMAND. Just like in comic books... good triumphs over evil!
Russell had me in his corner for a brief moment after Brett got the boot. Yeah, he really does deserve it, I began to think.
Then it all went out the window with his arrogant self-congratulations. Yeah, you did everything "all by yourself", Russell. Whatever.
He reminds me of a businessman who goes into business with 2 friends and finds a way to screw his partners out of the profits. I'm glad he lost and I hope he goes early on the upcoming ALL-STAR edition.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I suspect, based on Russell's reaction at the Somoa reunion, he didn't do well on "Heroes vs. Villains" ... otherwise, he may not have been such a big baby about losing to Natalie, who, by the way, owes Erik a huge thanks for his speech at the last tribal council which probably clinched the win for her ...

Heroes vs. Villains TONIGHT!!!
Posted by dedman on :
I'll be watching for sure
Posted by Lardi on :
Not a bad first episode setting up an interesting season and eliminating one of the weaker players right off the bat. It's nice to see these players using their knowledge of the game to what will hopefully be for maximum strategic play.
However, I'm disappointed in the massive spoiler given for the next episode in the preview. Apparently we're gonna lose one of the stronger players to a medical emergency next week, and the preview didn't even try to hide who that will be. Maybe I'm wrong and they're being this obvious to make us assume that's it for the player, but having watched Survivor all these years, I don't see this player remaining in the game. They've removed players for a LOT less than losing consciousness, for sure.
It's a shame because people who loved him (or loved to hate him) in past seasons were not being disappointed in tonight's debut. If he was going to exit the game this way, I'd prefer it wasn't completely telegraphed.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Great first episode ... I so can't "love to hate" the villains ... I just plain hate most of them and want them off immediately, especially those that talk and talk and talk about how they're "in control of the game" and they're "pulling all the strings" - blah, blah, blah ... shut the eff up!
Massive spoiler for next week indeed ... would hate to see that player go so fast ...
Posted by dedman on :
Liked the first episode, great pick for first vote off, easily the weakest player on that team.
Like Lardi and SharkLad said...What was up with the MASSIVE spoiler. Ugh, not happy with that.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Just watched it now. 3 days later should be safe from me making spoilers in this post. Just to be safe... SPOILERS FOLLOW HERE.
I'm not as fast to jump on the anti-Sugar bandwagon as she DID help the Heroes win the first "fire" challenge, scoring 1 of the 3 points they needed for the win... but, well, SOMEbody had to go and Sugar must have been on a Season I didn't see, so I won't miss her.
I DO know Tom, Stephenie, JT, and Cirie... looks to be a good team here.
And the villains. Just like in the comics, the Villains win the battle. The war is yet to come, of course. I still loathe weasely Russell. Tyson remains insufferable. I have found, however, that I have softened on Coach, mainly because his "dragon slayer" nonsense has become such a punchline. It's now amusing, not annoying, because everyone is making fun of him. Heehee.
Boston Rob... wow, he's almost a force of nature from what I saw tonight. I *LOVED* how he made fun of Coach and challenged Russell. Russell's so jealous of Rob's obviously being top dog on their team, it's delicious.
So you can imagine how disappointed I will be, if what appears to be happening next week actually happens...
Posted by Lardi on :
Whelp, I guess the producers provoked the desired reaction in the viewers with last week's preview and pulled a nice fake-out on us! Boston Rob's still up and running and the Villains tribe is looking to be riding the wave of win.
Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice...damn! Them Heroes is comin' apart at the seams! James always came off as such a nice guy the other two times, but now--? Rarely has such an early tribal council been so tense! They need to focus much more on winning and being a cohesive unit than on game play so early in the season. With so much experience present this is very surprising. Maybe if they lose the next immunity challenge, the Heroes should consider throwing out the game play and getting rid of James. It goes against the usual strategy of keeping the strongest ones until the merge, but it looks like his seeds of dissent will continue to be sown next week.
Lookin' really good for the Villains so far. 'Sokay with me--they've always tended to make Survivor more interesting than the good guys anyway from where I stand!
Posted by dedman on :
I'm glad the spoiler from last week turned out to not be one.
Lardi...agreed with the heroes, they are falling apart fast and something needs to be done fast.
As for rooting for the villians, well I do play the villian side of 'City of Heroes' for a reason
I was sorry to see the person who got voted off go, I've always considered her to be a strong player in previous Survivors.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Just watched it. SPOILERS FOLLOW HERE.
Whoa. James is a real jerk, and he needs to GO. You can't have someone tossing hissyfits at the drop of a hat and verbally attacking everone. If the Heroes lose again, they would be wise to ditch him quickly.
Meanwhile, Boston Rob is fast becoming my favorite player on both teams. A big tough guy who is also good at puzzles? He had me at big.
Russell's frustration over his lack of being top dog is still very enjoyable for me to watch, as is Coach's steadily-increasing mancrush on Boston Rob.
This has, so far, been a really good season...
Posted by dedman on :
haha, russell and the machette were great, he's showing why he's a villian. Good to see the heroes win one, don't agree with who was voted off, he wasn't a threat.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Gee, another 'roid rage outburst from James. How pleasant. Guy's going through SERIOUS withdrawals...
Posted by Lardi on :
This episode wasn't as good as the last two, but was still alright. Funny how all the men were wary of Parvati but voted out Randy instead, huh? Parvati is a REALLY dangerous player. She knows how to manipulate men to survive better than any Survivor woman in history. If the Villains keep her around much longer, she could win this thing again! I personally like her, though. You should use whatever your strengths may be; she's obviously not a strong lady, but she uses her sex appeal very well.
By the way, I wish they had subtitles in that spooning scene with her and Russell! Just what in the deuce were they laughing about?!?! I remember Russell having a wife or girlfriend in last season's reunion show; I imagine he might catch hell from her over what they showed between him and Parvati (though nothing was outright romantic).
Coach's big speech to the camera about doing everything in his power he could to save Randy rings a little false seeing how he helped vote Randy off. What can you say about Coach? He's one of the show's biggest flakes of all time! He's entertaining in his own way, though. (I guess he's single now since he was flirting with Jerry?)
So over on the Heroes tribe, Tom and Colby seem to be on the outs with Stephenie's ouster last week. It should be interesting to see how turncoat J.T.'s role evolves for him. He's playing a much different game than the one that one him the million. Should be interesting to see how that turns out.
The previews show an immunity idol will indeed be a factor this season. I was beginning to wonder as there's been nary a whisper of one the first three episodes. Plus, we haven't seen Russell scurrying about looking for one for some reason. The preview makes it seem like he'll need one, so Russell'd better get crackin'!
Posted by SharkLad on :
I'm so glad the Heroes won the challenge - which was AWESOME btw ... a villain needed to go ...
I can tolerate Coach a bit more this season than in Tocantins ... he's such a clown ... watching him talk about how Parvati isn't going to get under his skin, interspersed with Parvati totally playing him with the "you've never let fear control you" line was brilliant ... great editing job ...
Russell, on the other hand, is intolerable ... if he doesn't go soon, I'm gonna start fast-forwarding through any scene he's in ... the producers are giving him way too much air time ...
I'm still not sure what some of the players are doing there ... Danielle, Candice, Courtney ... Courtney has sat out the last two challenges ... she's barely playing the game ...
Posted by Lardi on :
FUN episode tonight!!! Villain tribe regroups and pulls two challenges out under the wire. Russell looks to be digging himself a hole (literally and figuratively) though and may be next to go home if/when the villains lose immunity.
Brilliant move on the Heroes tribe by some of the best to play the game! The person who went tonight was possibly the most dangerous player on that tribe. I would've targeted that player much earlier!
Gawd, that Coach is such a flake! His brand of flakiness makes me laugh hysterically, though, so I'm good!
Posted by SharkLad on :
Best line from Rob to Coach ... "and act like a man" ...
Posted by dedman on :
Coach has grown on me, I want to see him go far now.
I agree Lardi, dangerous player indeed. Good choice by the tribe (and excellent play by those invloved).
Next week looks like it could be interesting too.
Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :
I like Coach, his stories and his honour code is a bit childish but the guy is harmless.
Posted by Lardi on :
Coach's really kind of a big baby, but he's very non-generic. I like non-generic, even if it is borderline annoying. Thing is, I don't think he's acting at all! I think he really is that flaky and uses terms like "dragon-slayer" in his everyday life! Lots of reality stars put on airs, but I think he's the genuine article as far as being what he appears to be.
So next week, we're getting another injury. The preview doesn't spoil who it is or what the severity will be. I hope nobody's taken out medically. With so many choice players, I'd hate to see anyone taken out that way.
And, by the way, Boston Rob is THE MAN!
Posted by MLLASH on :
He is indeed. At this point this post contains SPOILERS from here on.
Whew! Seeing Boston Rob all slathered up in baby oil had me thinking some borderline villainous thoughts myself...
Russell has now shown himself to be the dumbass I always suspected he was. I believe Rob will see him out next Villains' T-council.
Coach's emotional breakdown had me shedding tears as well... except mine were tears from all the laughing I was doing. The poor dear! Fortunately, he's one of a kind... y'know, just like the Last of the Mohicans and King Arthur and all those other people he compared himself to. Still, his douchebaggery is so much fun to watch for me now. I don't mind if he sticks around a while to be tortured further by his longing to bond with Boston Rob...
This exit blindsided me totally. I didn't think JT would do it. I think he made the right move. Cirie is of absolutely NO value in challenges.
This season has been excellent thus far.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I didn't think JT would go through with it either, but mostly because I've gotten so used to the way the producers edit the show to try to convince the audience that an unlikely vote or change of alliance is going to happen only to not have it happen ... Burnett loves a good red herring ...
I laughed my ass off when Tyson pointed out Coach's douchebaggery to him after his temper tantrum ... "Don't put feathers in your hair at tribal council, don't tell your stories - no one believes them and they mock you, and do your tai chi where no one can see you" ... great shit ...
Next week's challenge look like that same stupid one from last season when Ben kicked someone and a bunch of people got banged up ... with all the challenges over the last ten years they have to choose from, that's a lame one to go with ...
Posted by Lardi on :
They're definitely relying too much on the overly physically confrontational challenges. I remember when this kind of challenge was very rare, and now there's one pretty much every episode. They lend themselves to injuries and contestants leaving prematurely. Though nice for a change of pace, I'd rather see teamwork and mental sharpness be the key factors.
Tyson was at his best in that session with Coach. I was surprised that he was actually as sensitive as he was. He was even restrained in front of the camera. But what we got was pretty darn funny! Tyson gives good snark, and that's entertaining.
Cirie made the mistake too early of showing overt manipulation. If she'd went with the consensus about Candice and kept the tribe strong, she would've been fine. I think J.T. seeing that was what ultimately swayed his vote. Voting her out also broke up what was shaping up as a power threesome in Cirie, James and Amanda, who'd all played together before. Good move!
Posted by dedman on :
Ouch, on the injury. Hope it heals fast or else the heroes made bad choice at council.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I'm starting to get really frustrated with this season ... too much Russell ... too much Courtney sitting out of challenges with a smirk on her face ... too many stupid decisions by the "Heroes" ...
Posted by MLLASH on :
I am 100% over the heroes.
Can't WAIT for the Rob/Russell showdown!
And Coach taking douchebaggery to a whole new level by bowing before Russell-- priceless!
Posted by MLLASH on :
Whoa. Poor stupid Tyson. Well he's been kinda a nonentity this season anyway.

Posted by dedman on :
Not overly surprised, I don't like Russell but he is a coniving little weasel who plays the game well.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Another bonehead move ... but by the villains for once ... last week was a pretty bonehead move too, but Tyson had only himself to blame ...
I hope Russell gets his soon ...
Posted by Officer Taylor on :
This will probably be the turning point for the Villains. I think neither Rob nor Russell should have gone. Coach had the right idea in getting rid of either Courtney or Sandra. Their lack of strength was obvious, but their under-the-radarness is most dangerous at this point. If Russell and Rob weren't so busy cock-fighting, they would have seen that.
Posted by SharkLad on :
While watching the Villains self-destruct the last few weeks has been entertaining, I'm not so sure I'm gonna enjoy watching the same thing happen to the Heroes, possibly starting next week. For all their "We're the strongest 5 players ever!" talk, the Heroes don't trust each other any more than Parvati and Russell do. Speaking of Russell, it was great seeing someone other than Rob finally stand up to him. I haven't thought much of Danielle this season, but she's at least willing to tell Russell when he's wrong.
And as for next week, if the teaser proves to be true and Russell gets another reason to crow that he's the "greatest player in the history of Survivor," the rest of the season is gonna be unwatchable ...
Posted by MLLASH on :
It was great seeing Russell not get what he wanted (he voted Courtney and Coach still got the boot). He's lost Danielle as an ally.
Speaking of which, I am shocked to admit this but... I was sad to see Coach go.
Maybe the girls WILL form an alliance and dump Russell next. Surely Rupert's observation put the thought in thier heads as it did in mine.
SURELY JT is lying about giving Russell the idol!!!!
Posted by SharkLad on :
I really hope so ... if he does give it away, he should have to give back the million dollars he won in Tocantins ...
Posted by MLLASH on :
TYPING AS I WATCH... beware speculative spoilers!!! . . . . . .
Well, IMO, Tyson's bone-headed play earlier has just been replaced by someone else's as stupidest move this season. We'll see how this plays out...
Posted by MLLASH on :
Stupidest thing EVER.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I'm still dumbfounded ... I'll have more to say after I can finally wrap my head around how anybody on the Heroes tribe thought that was a good idea ...
Posted by Officer Taylor on :
I think it comes down to the fact that they have no idea what Russell's about. None of them could have seen his season of Survivor because of the production schedule. So he was an unknown quantity. Had they the proper intel on Russell, they wouldn't have made that mistake. (Of course his being on the "Villains" tribe might have been a clue...)
Also, other than possibly Amanda, none of these five Heroes have exactly impressed me with their superior strategy in the past. On the other hand, I gotta hand it to Parvati. Her gameplay is actually pretty strong. It's no fluke she won last time around. I'd say Russell's met his match!
Watch out for Sandra, though. If I were the Villains, I would've taken her out instead of Courtney. Sandra's game play has been pretty good herself, and if the Heroes have any sense at all, they'd be wise to bring her to their side.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I've no doubt that Sandra will flip! She's totally grown on me.
Posted by Exnihil on :
In a bizarre way, I sort of see JT's logic. If the "Women's Alliance" had existed, and assuming a merge was imminent, and assuming that saving Russell would earn his loyalty, it basically would have set up the Heroes to pick the Villain women off one by one for the next four weeks.
But, yeah... those are some rather big assumptions to be making with no real insight into the inner workings of the other team other than casual observance.
It was worth it, though, just to see Colby's inner-struggle out on the dock as, against all better judgement, he slips the word to Russell. Hilarious!
Posted by SharkLad on :
quote:Originally posted by Officer Taylor: (Of course his being on the "Villains" tribe might have been a clue...)
That's the kicker ... I don't know if anyone else reads Jeff Probst's blog on ew.com, but this is what he wrote about it ...
There’s been a lot of debate about whether Russell had an advantage or a disadvantage since nobody knew anything about him coming into this season. My take is that he had neither. We told everybody at the start of the show that they should read a lot into the fact that while they hadn’t seen Russell play, Russell was selected as one of the 5 most notorious male villains of all time. These are seasoned players, they knew this meant that Russell was a bad dude. On the flip side, when we asked Russell to join the H v V cast, we told him there is a very good chance you’ll be voted out early because nobody knows you, nobody has played with you and therefore nobody can trust you. Russell knew that was a risk going in. So both sides had fair warning. They were just as likely to vote him out in episode one for fear of the unknown as they were to keep him. Once Russell survived a couple of votes and showed what kind of player he is – intimidating, calculating, cunning – all bets were off. Posted by SharkLad on :
He got what he deserved ...
Posted by Exnihil on :
If you mean JT getting booted for being a goober... agreed.
If you mean Russell finally being shown that he's not fully in control... doubly agreed!
Side note: If I see one more shot of people's gnarled toes during some challenge, I think I'm going to be sick.
Posted by SharkLad on :
especially Rupert's toes ...
I was referring to JT, but you're right about Russell ... hopefully, after he gets his 5 minutes of airtime to crow about how he outplayed JT, the rest of the episode will be Russell scrambling to stay in control ... followed by Sandra snuffing out his torch ...
Posted by MLLASH on :
Just watched it ON DEMAND, and...
THAT WAS. THE BEST. TRIBAL COUNCIL. !!EVER!!
I'm so glad that idiot JT got the boot. I used to be a fan, but he completely lost me last week.
Looks like Russell doesn't care for Parvati making the PLAY of the EFFIN' CENTURY and stealing his thunder. heh heh. See, Russell... SOME chicks are even smarter than YOU. Hard to believe, isn't it? I hope to see Sandra take him out next week!!
This has been a great season!!

So Sandra needn't have worried-- Rupert was going no matter what.
Fine with me, I used to like him but he's totally annoying to me now. Also annoying-- Colby and his general uselessness. What a big crybaby, yelling at his brother during that reward challenge.
Funny... folks I used to like I now can't stand (I'm looking at YOU, J.T.) and ones I didn't care for I kinda wanted around now (Hi, Coach!).
I want either Parvati or Sandra to win... best line in the episode: "I'm against you, Russell." You go, Sandra!
Posted by SharkLad on :
I am very happy with this outcome!
Posted by Officer Taylor on :
Meh. I'm never too crazy about it when the person people hate the least gets the votes for that very reason. I wonder if the outcome would've been the same if Russell had taken Sandra out instead of Jerri? Would Jerri have won also?
I called it the last page in this thread, though:
quote:Originally posted by Officer Taylor: Watch out for Sandra, though. If I were the Villains, I would've taken her out instead of Courtney. Sandra's game play has been pretty good herself, and if the Heroes have any sense at all, they'd be wise to bring her to their side.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Sandra was quite smart in the Tribals, lobbying as many jabs at the much-hated Russell as she could. "I'm against you, Russell" indeed!
Parvati was actually probably more deserving of the win, but her association with the uber-hated Russell doomed her.
re: Russell-- I've always thought he had a weird, crack-addict-like looking menace about his eyes and face, then I noticed-- dude has missing teeth. What's up with THAT, especially if you are a millionaire pre-Survivor already?? Fix it. Now!
Looking forward to an all-new cast this fall.

Jud's adorably idiotic. Chase and Shannon are hot. On the older tribe, Marty's attractive but I think he might be an asshat.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Well, she chatterboxed herself right outta there in Tribal, didn't she?
And Holly AKA Desperate Damsel revealing an alliance she made 10 minutes into the game with yappy lass was not so smart.
I **love** this older/younger division experiment so far. I think all the young'uns will implode before the older ones do.
Early favorite not based on looks: the older gal who recently lost her husband.

Damn! If they're that strict they should just blur out EVERYTHING!!!
I mean, why don't they blur out the rolls of fat some of these contestants have? What about crusty toenails? Unsightly back and chest hair? Unibrows?
WHERE'S THE EFFIN' LINE, PEOPLE?!?!?

Yeah, and a homophobic asshat at that.
Posted by SharkLad on :
That asshat committed Survivor suicide ... it was shocking in it's runaway train like quality ...
This season is full of mental patients ... Nay is a lunatic ... Holly is completely unhinged ... Jud is amazingly dumb ... all in all, a very promising season ...
Posted by MLLASH on :
Yeah, so far this season is WINx100!
Posted by Blacula on :
Just saw the first two episodes of this season and thought they were a hoot! For some reason I haven't been able to watch a season of Survivor properly from beginning to end since about the first season - but I hope to go the distance with this one.
The 'characters' all seem appropriately crazy/interesting and if we get Tribal Councils as entertaining as these first two have been we could be in for an enjoyable ride.
Posted by SharkLad on :
... is on right now!
Posted by MLLASH on :
MAN these are some good Tribals... every one so far has been on par with last year's amazing 2-Immunity Idol play by Parvati...
I'm torn by tonight's vote-off... this is either going to be VERY VERY good for them or a disaster of biblical proportions for them.
We'll see.
Posted by Blacula on :
I'm predicting disaster of Biblical proportions.
I can't stand that Marty guy. Total snake. Even if Jimmy J was maybe one of the physically weaker players (which is certainly debateable when you've got Dan there), like Jeff said, he's a proven leader - and the type of morale boost he seemed to be offering out there is worth its weight in gold when your spirits are low.
The problem was that Marty and Jimmy T were clearly jealous of the attention and respect he was getting from the others, and so were willing to sacrifice a valuable player for their own egos.
Marty is also totally weird in that he seems to be wanting to stir everyone up into getting into the 'game'-playing, sneakier aspect of Survivor, when right now they should all just be concentrating on sticking together as a team and winning challenges.
I was originally hoping one of the oldies would win this season but if they keep getting led to their graves by the transparently self-oriented actions of Marty and Jimmy T then I might just switch my allegiance to one of the youngies. Though definitely not Naonka who is humorous to watch but would have to be one of the most unpleasant people I've ever seen on TV.
Posted by MLLASH on :
The producers should remove NaOnka from the game for her threats against her handicapped teammate.
I find her dispicable, disgusting and a poor excuse for a human being. She hates for no reason and is angry for no reason and dares someone to call her out on it. I have no tolerance for that whatsoever. Also her name is stupid.
Rant over.
And yes, Marty and other, nutbag Jimmy are also awful... one's sleazy and the other's crazy and they were both SO Jell-O of Jimmy J.
As of now, I'm rooting for:
Young tribe: Jud (AKA Fabio)
Older tribe: Tyrone (I really like him!! He's funny) and the older blonde lady (NOT CRAZY HOLLY) who was drying pants over the fire.
Posted by MLLASH on :
ps/ Please keep watching, Blacula! We need more discussion here
Posted by Blacula on :
I'll definitely try Lash. Now that I have fast-speed internet (AT LAST!) I can even download the episodes I miss.
Looks like we're liking (and disliking) the same people too. Though I also kinda like crazy Holly. I'm fascinated to see how long someone who so clearly has had a mental breakdown enough to drown someone's shoes (and then worse - own up to it!) can last out there. My prediction - not very long.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I don't think I will ever be able to go without high-speed 'net again now that I have it. I spent 10 years... yep, a decade-- with Web TV... high-speed 'net was like the 30th century!
Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :
Show is pathetic 15 minutes of discussing bs and the 15 minutes of a challenge and then a half hour of deciding who should go. I got better shows to watch than this , I might as well be watching the view.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I found last night's episode pretty boring... I hate combined reward/immunity challenges ...
Jud is kind of amusing, but Nay just sucks the life out of the younger tribe ... any time she comes on, it turns into the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' ...
and they have to mix up the tribes stat... the older tribe is way too unappealing to watch...
On the plus side, I was happy with last night's vote... that player was getting too much airtime... it should shake up that tribe a bit too which'll be good...
Posted by Chief Taylor on :
I'm watching this season as I have almost every one before it, but no one's really emerged as a favorite at this point. So far none of the bad guys are as fun as Russell was last year, and no one's really got an abundance of likeability either.
I was rooting for the older tribe until the wheels really came off. I mean, come on, is anyone really afraid that a jury would award Jimmy Johnson the million? Really?!?! Strategically and for tribe cohesiveness it made a hell of a lot more sense to keep him around. Ugh. Age should bring wisom with it, man!
Naonka....part of me wanted to like her in a Russell kind of way, but she's just too much of a blunt knife. Hard to root for her after what she said about that girl's prosthesis.
Fabio's fun, at least.
Posted by Chief Taylor on :
Oh yeah...not crazy about the combined reward/immunity challenges, either.
Posted by Blacula on :
^ I'm preferring the combined immunity/reward challenges. But then, I watch Survivor more for the 'social interaction' -ness than the 'who can stand on a pole the longest' -ness.
Posted by Chief Taylor on :
Blacula, the inner workings are more interesting to me as well, but if they're not holding up well on a given week, then the challenges provide a bit of a break. Also, a lot of the more interesting social stuff arises from what happens during the challenges, so they're good dramatic fodder. It would also be interesting to see if the "medallion of power" would be utilized for a reward instead of an immunity and what the consequences might be.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Odd... Jud/Fabio's name was missing from his picture in the opening credits
Posted by MLLASH on :
OK... after tonight's ep, I am very very happy about what looks to be happening next week in the previews.
I wasn't bothered by who went home. The only ones I would have been bothered about really are Tyrone and Jan.
Posted by SharkLad on :
So glad to see that person gone... don't think I could have dealt with another one of those speeches... still a pretty boring season... next week's preview looks promising though...
Posted by Blacula on :
Also happy to see that blowhard gone.
Meanwhile Naonka continues to be one of the most unpleasant people I've ever see on TV. Survivor sure does attract them. Often I feel they're hamming it up for their 'role' on the show but not with this girl. She really does just seem to be a total bitch.
Posted by MLLASH on :
K then!
Those who were growing a bit bored by this season surely took notice with this episode that things are back on track!
No more young VS. old... kudos to Survivor for ending that failed expirement, along with the lame Medallion of Power.
Seperate reward/immunity was back!
Am I evil for taking utter delight in seeing both Marty and Naonka's comfort go completely tits-up with the tribe-switches? LOVED that.
That water-spitting challenge-- WTF! That was great!
My baby Jud ("Fabio" if you must) got to make the winning play!
I had a feeling Tyrone was making a mistake with the chicken...
Posted by SharkLad on :
quote:Originally posted by MLLASH: Those who were growing a bit bored by this season surely took notice with this episode that things are back on track!
I concur... loved seeing Marty and Nay sweat it out... and no more ridonkulous medallion of power...
The water-spitting challenge was one of the craziest things I've ever seen, including what looked like the near drowning of Brenda at the end of it...
Posted by Blacula on :
The last couple of episodes haven't been as good as the opening few IMO but there's still been nuggets to enjoy about them. I think I would've rathered we had a few more episodes with the old tribes before the mix-up but c'est la vie.
I was happy to see Jimmy T go last week and less than happy to see the person who went this one - but I can see how his demeanour would have been annoying to the youngies, and his physicality probably posed a threat. How Dan has survived this long amazes me though.
I cannot wait for Marty's exit. I hope it is the result of a particularly devastating and upsetting blind-side too. Like he gets turned on by Jill or orchestrated by Holly or something. His smugness is unbearbale for me to watch.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Me too. He's going to go... I think Brenda will see to it and I look forward to it very much!
Posted by Blacula on :
I'm liking Brenda (I'm glad she didn't drown at the end of that challenge this week - that was scary) and will like her even more if she organises Marty's exit. I like that she's playing the game but not in an overt, arrogant sort of way (like Marty).
Posted by MLLASH on :
Yes, she's VERY likable to me. I hope they totally blindside Marty and he leaves with the immunity idol in his pocket.
So my new faves consist of Jud (Fabio), Jane, Brenda and I've totes warmed to nutty Holly.
Posted by Blacula on :
I like that same 4 plus Jill (even though she's siding with the snake) and Kelly B (is that the one with the artifical leg?) seems pretty likeable too.
I'm on a Survivor kick at the moment. It's amazing that the show can still be going strong so many years later with so little changes to the process - throw a bunch of people together in a remote location and watch them connive and scheme and outmuscle each other until there's only one person left. It really is a winning formula.
Does anyone know of any good download sites where I might find older episodes from seasons I've missed?
Posted by MLLASH on :
Hulu only has the current season thus far and 2 eps from Season 6. I'd be intersted to find a site too!
Posted by Blacula on :
Hulu only works in America so I couldn't use that site anyway.
Here's where I catch up on most shows that I've missed -
Go to the Show List and see everything on offer.

Dumbest. Votes. Ever.
Posted by Blacula on :
^ Totally agree. I was all excited to see the dead-weight and the snake get voted off and then... they didn't. La Flor were crazy for not using that *perfect* opportunity to get rid of Marty. It will come back to bite them I think. Particularly Brenda. He will be gunning for her.
Posted by Chief Taylor on :
I'm not sure why La Flor didn't vote Marty out in the second chance vote. Jeff didn't ask for the idol during the second vote. I can only guess that they never intended to and only wanted to flush out the idol. Maybe they feared not having him for the challenges?
And over at the other tribe...Yve was playing the game too hard? Really? Granted, she made a misstep when she brought up her connection to the other older La Flor members, but still. And Dan wouldn't even admit he's contemplated quitting several times. Oh well....
I liked Marty's "grand master of chess" story with Fabio and how Fabio was impressed, though. If Marty can entertain me that way again, I'll be okay with him sticking around another week.
We'll see how Brenda stacks up in the long run. I'm not sure it was wise playing her cards at tribal like that.
Posted by MLLASH on :
ARRGH... stupid CBS.com quit working before the tribals, and for some reason this ep isn't ON DEMAND yet-- WTF is with this ep??? I'll go read the recap on EW.com, but I can tell right away I'm upset Marty isn't gone...
Posted by Blacula on :
^ Despite its unfortunate outcome that Tribal is worth a watch if you can, if only to see Brenda make Marty sweat.
I really like Brenda and love that she seems to be playing this game hard (especially its 'strategy' part) and isn't being too arrogant about it (this is Survivor though so of course they're all a little bit arrogant). I fear she's revealed herself a bit too soon now though. I will be very surprised if she makes it to the end.
Posted by Chief Taylor on :
Yeah, I'm not sure why she called out Marty like that. The only thing that makes since was that she wanted him uncomfortable enough to use his idol...which he didn't. It's really kinda confusing. What made him feel comfortable enough not to use it?
Posted by MLLASH on :
The fact that he didn't use it might even elevate him PAST Russell-levels of evil cockiness!!
Posted by SharkLad on :
It's all in the editing... if something doesn't come out next week about the decision to not vote him out, we probably won't hear about it 'til the reunion...
Then again, Brenda, et al. may just be stupid...
Posted by MLLASH on :
K then! Jane was very propehtic when she stated that every time someone gives up an idol in this gave it comes back to haunt them.
Only it came back to haunt Jill, who pretty much handed the idol to Marty way back in the beginning.
Merge coming... fun. Everything will change now.
Naokna I see is cranking her bitch level up even higher next week. It needs to rain again so she will shut up for a couple more episodes.
Still, it will be interesting to watch her "pull Russells" with the tribe and get everyone all hysterical.
I'm pretty sure I want her to go next.

I just don't know WHERE this season is going!
Posted by Blacula on :
Did a new episode air last night? I can't seem to find it on my usual download site.
Posted by Karie on :
I think we're into the fourth episode here in New Zealand. Naonka is some kind of CRAZEEEEE!!
Posted by Blacula on :
Finally tracked down a copy of the latest episode...
Re: the person who went - despite not liking them to begin with I had warmed up to her by the end. I think it was her underdog status that had me rooting for her.
Pretty good episode though. The Merge is always fun to see how people scramble around trying to solidify or break up or form new alliances.
My top 4 to go next -
* Marty - snakey and manipulative, way too dangerous to keep around. * Dan - completely useless in challenges and not entertaining. * Benry - total douchebag (what would you expect from a Girls Gone Wild cameraman?). * Kelly Purple - waste of space and not entertaining.
My hopes to win - Jane, Holly, Fabio, Brenda, Chase.
Sash and Naonka are fun to watch but the former is too cocky and the latter is too much of a total spoiled child/beyotch/psychopath!
Posted by MLLASH on :
That's the sound of ON DEMAND and Hulu BOTH not working. I guess I've gotta add this to my DVR list.
I was so over it, I read the recap on EW.com and now I GOTTA see it!!!!
Posted by MLLASH on :
Brenda is becoming just a smidge too attitudey for my taste.
I totes like Holly now. Which surprises me because she really turned me off early on.
If Dan doesn't go next, it will be totally styupid. That guy is WORTHLESS. I cannot beLIEVE he made it to the jury.
Fabio would look good covered in horse-shit. DAMN he's cute.
I still like: Jan, Fabio and Holly (surprisingly) for the win. MAYYYYBE Brenda, if she reigns it in. Maybe Chase. Sash turns me off.
VERY HAPPY with the vote-off.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I continue to have mixed feelings about this season... this last tribal council with NaOnka ranting and cursing at everybody was ridiculous, real Jerry Springer kind of stuff...
I thought the reward challenge was awesome... loved seeing the women try to knock down that brick wall... seemed like a truly original too for a change...
I like Chase a lot but he doesn't know when to back off... Brenda is only going to support him until she doesn't need his vote anymore... I'd like to see Brenda and Sash's arrogant asses voted off... anytime someone starts in with "I'm running this game," I lose interest... I would love to see Jane make it to the end, maybe Holly too... I wouldn't be surprised if Dan, unless he gets taken out by medical, makes it to the end... stranger things have happened...
Ben is a d-bag if not pretty to look at... glad to see who got voted out this week, probably the only person more arrogant than Brenda and Sash...
Posted by ML LSH on :
While I don't think it was quite her time to go yet (and was in fact astounded an immunity idol wasn't played to save her), I do think last night's vote-off will shake things up mightily.
NaOnka MUST go ASAP.
There is no doubt in my mind that JANE deserves the win this season.
Posted by Chief Tay-LSH on :
I'm surprised Nay turned on whom she turned on this week. I didn't see any build-up in previous episodes at all. I suppose that could be poor editing on the producers, but they usually set these things up pretty well.
Chase is not a very strong player. Way too much waffling. Also, Benry was the strongest threat in Chase's eyes? Really?!? The past two week's Benry has just thrown his lot in with whomever came to him with a plan, so I didn't see that at all. Yes, Benry could win, but he's not controlling the game at all at this point.
Jane, on the other hand, is a really smart cookie. Marty had it nailed a few tribals ago: if she's in the finals, Jane's sure to win! If I were one of the remaining tribe members, she'd be the biggest target. Strategically, I'd take Nay to the finals because I know I could beat her.
Posted by Blacula on :
Nay must be the most awful person to be with on that island - she treats her enemies like shit (Kelly B, Alina, Fabio) and will backstab her friends at the first opportunity (Brenda, Sash). She's totally psycho! But she is defintely making this season more interesting. If they ever do another Heroes vs Villains season she should be a total-lock for that Villains tribe.
I was very surprised to see the person who went home this week go home. Thought they were a lock for the end. Part of me is disappointed because I was liking their game-play (minus the arrogance) and they were absolutely beautiful to look at. But the part of me that loves a surprise was happy the underdogs rocked the boat a bit.
It really is anyone's game now and it will be interesting to see what new alliances form going forward from here.
Go Jane, Holly, Chase and Fabio. They're my favourites of the ones left.
Posted by Exnihil on :
Good Lord! Either Nicaragua is the most miserable, spirit-crushing place in the world to spend 40 days... or this is the most weak-willed group of people to ever play this game. 11 days left and these are the decisions they're making? I'm just befuddled.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Tonight really surprised me too, but I don't care for those 2 at all and wasn't sad about it.
Next week looks to be a bit evil... everyone's turning on everyone... I do NOT want Jane to turn against Fabio, they are my 2 picks for the win.
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
Yeah, it's absolutely CRAZY that two contestants would quit the game this far into it! Other than medical mishaps, I don't think this has ever happened during the jury phase. Frankly, I think they should've been left off the jury, too, but Jeff indicates they'll be there. They shouldn't get a million dollar vote, IMO. Despite what one of them said, I'm pretty sure both of them knew they had no prayer of winning the game, and that figured into their decisions. I like it when Jeff gets all condescending when contestants quit, and these two certainly deserved it.
Pretty solid group remaining, though, with the exception of Dan, I'd say. Holly particularly really came off well with her actions tonight with both her sacrifice and her trying to talk one of the quitters into staying. I hope she can survive next week and into the final stages of the game. She's developed into a fine player after a rough start.
Sash and Chase have their idols. We'll see if Fabio and Benry can rise above some fairly average-at-best gameplay. Jane is very manipulative and not the sweet old lady she appears to be. Dan might be good strategically for any of them to bring to the final three as one not likely to get many votes, but who knows if that would backfire?
Right now, Holly seems most deserving and would have my vote. But that may be her downfall as the others consider that.
Posted by Blacula on :
I remember accidentally seeing who was on this season's Final 3 ages ago before it started, and though I quickly forgot who those 3 were, I knew Naonka wasn't one of them.
So all season I've been wondering "How does someone so perfect to take to the Final 3 get voted off before it?" Now we know.
What a monster she was/is. Spoiled, childish, selfish, arrogant and clueless to the end.
I have known people like her in my life and I have despised every one of them. I would say that those type of people get what they deserve in life but the sad fact is that the ones I knew were surrounded by equally idiotic or blind enablers who allowed them to continue with their hurtful and/or destructive behaviour and since none of them had the moral or empathic sense to know when they had done something 'bad' there was also never even any hope that they might one day live to regret their actions.
I don't see Naonka escaping so easily from the bad reputation she's created for herself here though. Now she'll always be known as the crazy, full-of-herself bitch who quit Survivor.
She won't even ever be invited back for another 'Villains' tribe (which she would have been so perfect for) since we all know what Jeff thinks of quitters.
What a sad, pathetic loser.
Kelly Purple - whatever. Barely there and instantly forgettable now she's gone. The Casting Director really dropped the ball on that one. (And the obviously way too injured to be out there Dan.)
Holly, Jane, Chase, Fabio (in that order) still my faves to win.
Posted by Blacula on :
P.S. After getting decimated so quickly, so early who would have ever thought that the Oldies tribe would almost be on par with the Youngies tribe again? 3/4.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I thought of that tonight... I'm glad Jane and Holly are still there. Dan is worthless. If he wins, I will break something.
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
Naonka helped put Marty and Brenda out of the game. They were hard players, and now she's a quitter. Can you imagine the welcome she got from them at the jury house?
Posted by MLLASH on :
I believe we can find out on YouTube. If I understand correctly, they show jury house vids there (though I have never looked one up).
Posted by Blacula on :
^ I watched them at the Survivor Sucks website. Brenda and Marty were actually quite gracious, Brenda especially seems to be the mature, level-headed one in that group. She really impressed me.
Alina wasn't there to greet them and seemed to ignore them and bitch about them to the camera for a while but seemed to join up with them later.
I heard all 3 weren't happy that those 2 will be allowed to vote for the winner though. Which is understandable.
A lot of previous players have complained about this on twitter and what-not too. I predict a rule-change in the future that will deny future quitters that priviledge.
Posted by MLLASH on :
yeah, Jeff pretty much said that would be the case on his EW blog.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Thank Space the man I love and plan to marry was spared tonight!!
I know it won't happen but as a viewer, I think I would like to see a final 3 of:
Jane, Holly and Fabio. Possibly Sash, Jane and Fabio but I'd rather see the first one.
I think the combo of those 3 would be most difficult to choose a winner from.
Looking at Sash is painful. the poor lad is wasting away. I still don't like him though.
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
Is it just my imagination, or does Sash have abnormally large nipples for a dude?!?!
Posted by Blacula on :
Shannon (the guy who got kicked off in the first ep) had freakishly large nipples too. Err... not that I was noticing or anything.
Happy with who got kicked off tonight. The editing seemed to be leaning in another direction (Jane or Fabio) so I was relieved to see those two spared.
One of the good things about this season is that it's really been anyone's game to win or lose for a while. There hasn't been any one or two master-minds running things like in previous seasons. Any one of the remaining Survivors (except Dan) has a legitimate argument for that $1 million.
Posted by MLLASH on :
MY BIGGEST FEAR:
Dan makes it to final 3 due to no one considering him to be a threat to win at all due to him being absolutely worthless (which is the correct opinion)...
and he wins it.
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
I noticed Jeff didn't even ask Dan any questions at Tribal!
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
Do you think Dan even thinks he has a chance of winning? Has he won anything so far?
Posted by Blacula on :
I don't think Dan has a hope in hell of getting even a single vote. I think even his friends out there (Fabio, Benry, Marty) would even agree that he has done nothing but sit around out there. I think they all know that and that's why there's never any talk of voting him off. They all want to take him to the final three.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Yeah but those friends could vindictively decide to vote for Dan in the final 3 just to "stick it" to whomever else is there.
I am truly worried Dan might win.
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
Surely, surely, surely!...None of the players would vote to give Dan a million dollars?
Posted by MLLASH on :
I would LIKE to think that, but you know if they hold any grudges against the other 2 in the final 3, voting Dan is a good way for them to say "kiss my arse"...
Posted by MLLASH on :
...Because Dan's doing ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING THE ENTIRE TIME also applies to... making enemies.
He hasn't done anything at all including make enemies.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Well I hated tonight's elimination.
I sure hope my sweet, sensitive baby wins immunity again. His win tonight was outstanding.
Chase and Sash can both frag off.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I will officially now state that I would rather Dan win that Chase or Sash. And Holly's only hanging on by a thread with me.
This guy deserves it all:
Posted by Blacula on :
I liked Jane and was hoping she'd go all the way but I think all this talk of "betrayal" and what-not is a bit ridiculous.
This is still Survivor right? Decisions like this have to get made all the time out there, *especially* at the end like this. A 4-person alliance cannot all go to the end together. Someone has to get voted off before then and the fact was that Jane was the biggest threat to the other three for that million dollars.
I also don't think those three have any intention of taking each other to the end anyway. Dan is the PERFECT person to go up against in that Final Tribal Council and they all know it. So they're all saying they're aligned now, but when it comes down to it I bet they will quickly ditch one of their three to keep him in the game. It's just sensible playing.
So (even though I wanted Jane to win) I don't have any problem with what Sash and Chase (and Holly) did tonight. In fact, it was obvious that Dan and Fabio agreed with them that Jane was all of theirs biggest threat for that million since they didn't go along with her otherwise very sensible plan to team-up against Holly.
Dan is still way down the bottom of my totem pole in this game. Not only is he physically useless, he seems like a bit of a douchebag too.

Also, maybe this is just because I've gone many months/years without seeing certain very close family members like siblings and parents - but I hate this episode every season where we see them all getting so emotional and hysterical about seeing a relative they've only been separated from for like 3 weeks. I'm like - get some friggin' intestinal fortitude people!
Posted by Blacula on :
Also forgot to mention, beside the irritating family weep-fests there were three absolutely classic scenes in this episode -
1. The first was when Jane stumbled upon Holly, Chase and Sash conspiring and basically worked out that she was next to go. It was like a scene straight out of a movie as you could see her fears slowly being realised and then moving from sadness to anger while the other three were desperately trying to work out a way to avoid the confrontation but eventually realising it was inevitable. Survivor almost *never* makes it this clear who's going to get voted off before the Tribal Council but they obviously knew this scene was too good to pass up.
2. Jane's righteous revenge on the campfire! Classic!
3. Jane's exposing of everyone's secrets at the Tribal Council. I love when people go down with guns blazing!
Posted by MLLASH on :
See, different strokes: I talk to my Mom and Grandmother everyday-- and see them often-- and would have been just as emotional as everyone else was. I love these episodes.
And yeah, Jane truly went down in a spectacular fireball didn't she?
Jeff himself blogged on ew.com that the scene where she comes onto the group conspiring to oust her (and what followed) was one of his favorite scenes this year.

When I was in the army, I went through a very intense three week course called SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistence, Escape). Basically, the set-up was a realistic field exercise during which, you are captured by an enemy force, placed into a POW camp, and interrogated. During the camp time, we were under an intense physical work load, coupled with sleep deprivation and very limited food (a bowl of rice a day).
Now, I'm not saying that the "Survivor" experience is even a fraction of that, but trust me... at the end of the course, having been awake for days, near starved, and physically exhausted, even the burliest Special Forces guys were weeping like babies when they saw their wives and children.
I imagine the stress of the Survivor set-up wreaks havoc with these folks' emotions.

Some interesting behind-the-scenes info re: the latest Tribal Council from someone on another board who is (or has) an inside connection on the show -
Since the show has aired and what I say will not be a spoiler now I thought I would tell you what really happened at Tribal Council last night.
Jane accused Sash of offering to pay off her mortgage in exchange for her vote and influence with the jury on his behalf. When she said this Jeff ordered the cameras to stop rolling and called in the producers. They discussed this for about 10 minutes and resumed filming without giving any instructions to the jury or the remaining players. In other words they left it as a 'he said, she said' situation. If you watch the insider clips on the voting you can see where Jane changed all her thought process of trying to force a tie vote with Holly and instead voted for Sash? Why? Well I have just told you.
You can also notice how her voting scene appears to have been edited where they left something out.
His voting confessional refers to this but if you don't have this information, it makes no sense.
If you want to know how this played out with jury members go to the Spoilers board to my thread and read it there.
I hope this helps to clear up how confusing the voting confessional was last night and also why she voted for Sash instead of Holly.
Great finale coming Sunday!!!!!
Survivors offering to split/share the winnings is against the rules on Survivor so that's why Jeff would have ordered the cameras be stopped and the discussion had.
It's impossible to know if what Jane says really happened but Sash strikes me as the type of person who would do something like that (or at least promise to - I bet he wouldn't have really helped her with her mortgage once he got the money).
And now we know why she voted for him over Holly! I was really wondering about that.
Posted by SharkLad on :
It's always in the editing... thanks for sharing that... I would have loved to have seen it go to a tie with a fire making challenge... with the players left, I'm surprised to say I'd be pretty happy if Jud makes it to the end and wins the million bucks... I'd love to see Holly, Chase and Sash turn on each other and implode...
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
I'll chime in and affirm that voting out Jane made perfect sense strategically. You simply cannot make that mistake. She would've dominated the jury votes as Marty correctly pointed out a while back.
Fabio's definitely my favorite of the five remaining, but his only chance is if he wins the last immunity challenges. The alliance of three will vote him out if they have the chance.
Will the alliance hold? It should be interesting. Taking Dan to the final three just makes too much sense strategically. But I don't see a betrayal coming unless Fabio winning both immunities forces it. If it does happen, Sash is most likely to flip.
I'm actually amazed, however, that Chase turned on Jane. I think if Jane hadn't interrupted them when he did and forced Chase's hand, Chase might have stood firm about Dan instead. That definitely worked to Holly and Sash's advantage.
I would choose Holly if the alliance holds, but I'm not absolutely sold that the jury would go the same route. Their loyalties are all over the place, the more I think about it.
Should be fun. Hope for some twists!

GO FABIO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Posted by MLLASH on :
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS, I typed as I watched!!
Wow... this ep has been NUCKING FUTS so far.
How SUPREME was Fabio's come-from-4th-place Immunity win? That ruled. Then, after trying to bury the dagger in Holly's heart, HE votes Dan too? I just don't get that. Of course, Dan didn't vote Holly either.
They were smart to get rid of Dan. He hasn't made ANY enemies, as I posted earlier. I'm telling you... he might have won it had he made top 3.
OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!!!! MY BABY WON IMMUNITY AGAIN!!!! HE'S IN FINAL THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, that goes down with Parvati's 2-idol play for players other than herself last season as my favortie moment in Survivors I've watched.
I AM LOVING WATCHING MY BOY give Sash hell. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh, this is awesome. Make 'em sweat, dollboy!
Oh GAWD, Sash is such a liar!!!!!!!!
Man, he's got a hard choice... Sash Chase AND Holly all have pals on the jury...
Oh, I'm so nervous and just want him to win.
So who will this final 3 be? WHo is GONE...? HOLLY'S GONE. Wow.
Let's hope keeping evil Sash and flipfloppy Chase was the right thing...
I think it WILL be,
COME ON FABIO!!!!!!!!! YOU GOT THIS, BOY!
It strikes me that Fabio has made it to final 3 with NO ALLIANCES whatsoever.
There goes Sash being an arrogant asshole again.
Oh shit. Chase is playing Jane like a fiddle.
WOW-- DAN IS KICKING ASS NOW!!! He waited til the end questions to do it but did he ever.
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! Fabio's tears have totally swayed the jury haven't they?!?!?! YES!!!
Damn, Alina just dissed my boy.
Oh gosh PLEEEEEEASE not Sash...
YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
OH MY GOSH I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER FOR A TOTAL STRANGER!!!! Posted by MLLASH on :
Big congrats also to Jane for winning favorite player!!!
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
Yay, Fabio!!!
Posted by Blacula on :
Holly was my fave of the Final 5 but after she went I was happy to see Fabio win and Chase come in second.
Also glad to see Sash shut out of the votes (although I did feel a bit sorry for him) and that douchebag Dan get kicked out at 4. God, his jury speech was pathetic. Acting all betrayed and bitter like he actually deserved to be in the Top 3. Dan - you were a decrepit, mysoginistic (I read on another board that he was gunning for the women hard-core from almost Day 1) tool who sat around doing nothing for 38 days. Almost *anyone* was more deserving of your spot on this show.
Speaking of deluded jury speeches/questions - Marty's pathetic attempt to catch Chase out and make him look dumb. I LOVED the way it back-fired on him and Chase just made Marty look completely stupid by not falling into his obvious trap. And then to see his mortal enemy Jane romp home with the audience favourite award... Priceless! Well done Jane!
I think Fabio did play a pretty good game and deserved his win but if Holly had been there at the end I definitely think she would have deserved it more. She played a much more strategic game than he did and also did it without really making any enemies (except maybe Dan). She also had the harder time out there by being an older, less physically fit female. Maybe she and Jane can come back for another All Stars season?
Anyhoo, enjoyed the season. Looking forward to the next one.

Great ending to this season... loved how the final vote came out... Chase deserved a close second... and Sash deserved to get 0.0 votes... good stuff at the final tribal council... Marty looked like a tool (didn't have far to go to get there)... Chase came out strong, making up for a lot of his paranoia and waffling during the season... I'm glad Jane got the $100k... Shannon proved that it wasn't being out in the bush that made him act like an idiot -- he is an idiot... Naonka, well, I hope she just fades away... I could have done without Chase's singing on the reunion... Redemption Island sounds promising... curious how it'll work in terms of the broadcast...

"Survivor: Redemption Island" a.k.a. the return of two bloated over-exposed formers players...
"But seriously," I liked the first episode if only for the hot box of crazy tribal council... I hope Phillip hangs around for a while if only for the comedic value... looks like this will be a good season...

Finally watching Wednsday's ep...
I'm not caring as much for Boston Rob here as I did in Heroes vs. Villains, where I was rooting for him against Russell, who I still despise.
Go hairy Ralph!!! Love seeing him get under Russell's skin, hahaha!!
So Fabio, Jr. is off to redemption island. That whole blindside felt lame and unecessary to me, like Rob wanted an ego boost. Nutjob Phillip would have been a better candidate to oust.
Posted by SharkLad on :
I find myself hating Russell as much as the last two times he was on the show... would love to see him get voted out because of Ralph having the idol... I totally agree with you, Lash, about Matt's being voted off... there was no need, and it will probably come to bite Rob in the arse... maybe as early as next week...
Posted by MLLASH on :
I took IMMENSE JOY in watching that loser Russell get voted out.
The tribe pulled it off without a hitch... I was SO afraid Julie would flip.
WTF is up with Stephanie... she wants to marry Russell I think...
And even better-- Russell expected to see Francheesecake on Redemption Island... hahahahaha!!!!
maybe the next several seasons will be Russell-free now. One can pray so.
Posted by Blacula on :
Just popping in to say I'm really enjoying this season. Three great Tribal Councils in a row IMO. Also SO happy to see Russel get ditched in this latest episode. Now if only Matt can deliver the killing blow at Redemption Island.
Like Lash, I'm not liking Rob as much as a person this season as I did in HvV but his incredible strategising, and charismatic control of his team is really impressive and enjoyable to watch.
I've got quite a few faves so far this season too. From Rob's team I'm liking Andrea, crazy-Phillip and espcially Kristina. From Russel's team I'm liking Sarita, Ralph, the ex-military guy and especially Julie. LOVED the way she played Russell along and then stuck the knife in. That's what he gets for still not knowing her name after like 6 days out there!
The only person I'm *really* hating this season (apart from Russell of course) is Stephanie. What a sycophantic freak. She has *really* drunk the Russell kool-aid. Admonishing the team for ditching Russell as if he was ever going to help any of them to get to the end. She hitched her horse to the wrong wagon early on and now hopefully she's going to go down with it.

Stephanie is a tool... hope she's next to go...

Dunno. This season is feeling a little to...artificial? I mean, I know this isn't really real and all, but it just feels a little too staged and unreal somehow this season. Might be the Redemption Island angle. Hard to say.
I guess Ralph seems more artifical Hillbilly compared to others like Big Tom (the excessive body hair doesn't help ) Philip is just effin' GOOFY. It just feels like everybody is somehow too made for primetime. I don't know why it's striking me so much this season as compared to others, but I'm really feeling it.
Boston Rob's still fun to watch play, though.
Posted by SharkLad on :
This season definitely feels more like stunt casting than usual... and I'm not liking the Redemption Island angle... especially if it saves Russell...
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
Redemption Island seems like a sound concept, but the execution is looking really off. It's also taking time away from us seeing the cast strategize and what-not, which is the real draw of the show. Also, not a fan of throwing challenges. That almost always bites tribes ion the ass. Really, no favorites other than Boston Rob emerging.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Redemption Island is okay with me... I used to love Real World/Road Rules "the duel", where one from each team had to fight it out to stay in the game very episode. I'd almost rather they went with that for this season of Survivor too (the winner of the RW/RR duel went back to their team right away, usually pissed that they got voted into the duel yet also with leverage because they WON the duel).
I feel what Lardy is saying though, but I can track the point of artifice to the Rob/Russell recasting. Redemption Island feels like a way to keep them around as long as possible.
NO STUNT CASTING next season, please, Survivor!
Posted by Crymsun Kid on :
I'm really enjoying Redemption Island. I hate Russel so much, but I think that's part of the fun.
You just know he's going to kick butt on the island. He's good at challenges, and I think he can beat Matt in puzzles or physical challenges.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Really, when I think on it, having Russell there is genius... half the folks love him and half the folks hate him and want him to fail!
If he wins, the lovers get to be happy and the haters (which I count myself as) get the fun of bitching about it and PRAYING he loses next time.
That's kind of special there, for real.
Posted by Chief Lardy on :
I enjoyed Russell those two seasons last year, but having him in three out of the last four seasons IS a bit too much! Rob's not as bad because he didn't go very far in Heroes v. Villains and had a long lull before appearing there. He's entertaining and very good at the game, especially at learning from his mistakes.
I just haven't felt compelled by anyone else at this point.
Posted by SharkLad on :
After tonight, I feel like I can sit back and relax and enjoy the rest of this season...

SPOILERS FOR LATEST EPISODE TO FOLLOW...
- - - - - - -
I am LOVING this season. It's got great characters and storylines and challenges and especially Tribal Councils. Every one of them (except this latest one) has been a nail-biter IMO.
This latest TC was a let-down due to my beloved Kristina's ousting being so obvious, but the episode more than made up for it with the permanent eviction from Redemption Island of Russell earlier in it!
I love how the Zapatera 6's plan to get rid of him worked so flawlessly. And then for him to break down so wretchedly before he left...! Between that and his armpits and his early boot you'd almost think a scriptwriter couldn't have written a more humiliating season for Russell than this one. Hopefully that's the last any of us ever have to hear from him again.
But now with Kristina gone, the Zapatera 6 are definitely my favourite contestants there this season. I really hope they can stick together until the end. Rob's boring 4sum have got to go! I can't stand the way everyone on that tribe (except Kristina and maybe Phillip) just follows him around like he's some God or something. Those people need to quickly get a backbone and realise he's just using them all as pawns to further his own ends.
Well done to Matt for surviving two challenges on RI. I had a feeling from one of his confessionals a few episodes ago that they were hinting that he might go on a challenge-run there so I wonder if my instinct is going to be right? Part of me hopes to see him do that and then come back and kick Rob out of the game - but the other part really wants to see Kristina win of course. Dilemma.
I think the RI twist has been a successful one so far though and I hope it gets used again next season (or more).
Posted by MLLASH on :
It's my understanding that RI will be back next season!
Oh, Russell, your tears bring me so much joy! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Now get out, loser!
I have the distinct feeling Matt is going to pull a Fabio and do a run on these RI duels and be back in the game. I'd love to see him kick Rob out... Rob will definitely regret allowing his jealousy of the younger, prettier Matt to take over his common sense!
Sucks to see Krisitina get the boot... because Phillip is just about unwatchable. Once again Rob went against his alliance's wishes, and he will pay for it.
Posted by rickshaw1 on :
They need to move survivor to the island of LOST. Lets see some real survivor skills.
Posted by MLLASH on :
GO MATT GO!!!!
Posted by Blacula on :
Still enjoying this season -
But Zapatera need to start getting it together. Though I was happy to lose Russell's two 'Manson' girls, I'm worried their losing streak is going to continue and they're going to go to the merge without the numbers.
And the only people I like on Rob's team are Andrea and (for comedy value) Phillip. I especially dislike those two lazy, entitled, 'follower' girls on his tribe so the sooner they're gone, the better.
Well done to Matt for pulling out another victory on R.I. I hope he kicks out Stephanie next too but I have a feeling his run may be about to end. If it doesn't though, and he rejoins the game only to ally straight back with Rob again - I'll be supremely disappointed. None of those players (except Kristina) are doing anywhere near enough to get rid of him.
If things continue as they are, I have little trouble predicting Rob winning this season.
Posted by MLLASH on :
OOOH! If Matt re-aligns himself with Rob, I will be colossally disappointed in him and he will deserve to lose.
IMO whomever returns from Redemption Island will have the world's biggest target on their back and better realize that right away.

Holy Jeez... last night's vote was brutal to watch...
Such a bizarre immunity challenge... how many times did Probst say something like, "Mike's balls were about to fall off but he caught them"?
Posted by Blacula on :
SPOILERS re: 06/04/11 (non-US date system) episode -
- - - - - - - -
Gosh! Like Shark Lad said, that vote was just disturbing to watch. Rob and the Ometepes were like the wolves in that old Aesop fable, luring their prey, the sheep, into a false sense of security before turning around and eating them. Poor Matt! That may have been the most brutal vote in the history of this game.
I can't feel too sorry for him though. The guy was a total idiot and deserved everything he got for trusting Rob again after he had already kicked him out once. The deal Mike offered him was so clearly better for him than being at the bottom of Rob's alliance but out of some ridiculous loyalty to a tribe that had already shown him that they weren't loyal to him, he led himself to the slaughter.
I definitely don't think he's going to make it back from Redemption Island this time. Matt's story is done. I'd love it if he got to go up against Rob over there though - and beat him! I want Rob out of this game.
Unfortunately that is now almost impossible to happen. He's got his followers far too tightly wrapped around his finger. I definitely think the Zapatera 5 are all out next (unfortunately). I can't see any situation that sees any of them survive. :-(
Since an Ometepe is so definitely going to win this season (IMO) the only person I can root for now is Andrea. If Rob, Ashley and Natalie are the Final 3 I will be sick.
Posted by Exnihil on :
The vote may have been brutal, but my sadistic side found it completely delightful.
I can't imagine what it must be like, being accepted onto Survivor and then to spend almost the entire game in isolation. I could almost hear that poor guy's mind snap when the vote was read. I wonder whether he thought to bring his Bible with him to Tribal Council, or he has to go back to RI with nothing.
If somehow he does somehow make it through to the end, though, I wonder whether it would work in his favor (he never really had time to get on anyone's bad side) or against him (he didn't really play the game).
Posted by MLLASH on :
quote:Originally posted by MLLASH: OOOH! If Matt re-aligns himself with Rob, I will be colossally disappointed in him and he will deserve to lose.
Sorry Matt, I j'adore you but I stand by the above statement.
Blacula, if Andrea is smart she will flip to the other tribe NOW. That might shake it up a bit.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Feh. This season has jumped the shark. Boston Rob's stranglehold has officially become boring.
Things might perk up a little once only Rob's people are left and begin to turn on each other, but I'm all "Who cares?" now.
Bringing back well-seasoned vets to lord over the newbies is something I hope they do NOT do again.
LOVED Julie calling Rob's people a cult!
Posted by Blacula on :
^ Totally agree. Watching Rob's boring band of sheep following his every command as to who they can talk to, when they can go to the toilet and what they can eat is not only completely boring - it's pitiful!
And the way (some of) them act all bitchy and attitudey to Zapatera as well (I'm looking at you Philip - who has well and truly jumped the shark for me. His 'crazy' routine is no longer funny or likeable anymore. He just seems like a loser to me now.) is not fun to watch.
I so don't want an egomaniacal, paranoid, narcissist like Rob to win this game - and yet, who on Ometepe deserves it more? Andrea will if she steps up. But the rest of them? Have not done one thing in 10 or whatever episodes.
Loved Julie calling them a cult too. Rob clearly didn't like it though. I wonder if he will target her next out of spite?
I hope things start shaking up next week though 'cause I can't take another boring episode like the last one.
Posted by SharkLad on :
It's pretty amazing that in all of the years that Survivor has been on, excluding the season where the tribes started off grouped along racial lines, that this past week's episode was truly the first aired featuring a discussion of or an argument surrounding race... the word "crazy" clearly brings up some deep-rooted feelings for Phillip... while it doesn't appear to take much to send him on a rant, it was fascinating to see how he was triggered... you know the producers were drooling when they got that footage as well as Jeff's "therapy session" at tribal council...
Posted by MLLASH on :
I forgot about Survivor this week. Do you think it is it worth my time to watch or is the outcome predictable?
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
Lash, the "crazy"/racial conversations and the subsequent interpersonal dynamics were interesting to see.
Does it seem to anyone else that Probst is stirring the pot in tribal council more than he's done in earlier seasons?
Posted by SharkLad on :
Seems about par for the course... he's been this way for many seasons now, I believe...
Posted by Lard Lad on :
I think Probst handled the racial discussion very, very well, personally. While I'm sure that he gets a heads-up from the producers, his moderation of the discussion was expertly done.
But, yeah, Lash...though nothing was surprising vote-wise, I think this is a must-see episode. It will certainly be a big part of the reunion special, I'm sure.
I honestly don't know why Phillip went there. The other tribe-within-the-tribe would've reacted the same way if any of the others had approached them about the rice issue. They probably would have caused them "crazy" also, if any of them had behaved like Phillip has.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I read the recap on EW.com instead. Just can't bring myself to watch anymore, maybe around the end I will start back.
This experiment with 2 experienced players and a legion of newbs is a COLOSSAL FAIL.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Read the recap instead of watching... an apparently wise move.
I might start watching now that things HAVE to perk up a bit.
Posted by Blacula on :
^ Don't get your hopes up. Still the same old predicatble boot.
This season has sucked for quite a few episodes now. I guess if one is a huge Rob M fan they might be enjoying it since it has been THE ROB M SHOW since almost the beginning but I'm completely bored of him and it.
I've been watching each episode hoping something interesting will happen but each one has been a colossal disappointment.
Which is a shame because I think there were some really great characters cast this season (i.e. everyone but those complete wastes of space Ashley and Natalie) but we haven't been able to see nearly enough of any of them because of THE ROB M SHOW. Bringing back two very experienced players and putting them in charge of complete Survivor virgins (and complete doormats in a few cases) has proven to be a monumental failure IMO and I hope they never do it again.
The ONLY thing that can save this season for me now is if Mike or Ralph (or maybe Andrea or Matt) make it back from RI and beat the others in the finale. I have zero interest in seeing any of Rob, Ashley, Natalie, Philip or Grant win. (Though I'll grudgingly take a Grant win if those are the only 5 I can choose from.)
Bring on a new (and better hopefully) season soon please.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
No matter how big a Rob M fan anyone is, I still don't see him winning in the finale. IF it's him, Phillip and Natalie, the jury will give it to Natalie because Phil's pissed off everyone, an the jury pretty much never rewards the guy who obviously ran the show, just out of spite. Whoever the three end up being, if Rob's among them, they'll choose someone else. He hasn't a prayer. The Alpha Male almost never wins Survivor unless he manages to do his thing with subtlety and making the others somehow like him. Rob's done neither.
He's played an excellent game and would get my vote, but Rob ain't winnin' this thing.
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
I dunno, Lardy. If Rob gets to the finals, I can almost see the whole tribe falling prostrate in front of him chanting "Rob is Survivor Supreme."
Posted by SharkLad on :
Was I the only one hoping Rob would fall down the stairs?
Posted by MLLASH on :
Skipping again. I'll read the recap.
Posted by Exnihil on :
I wish I had followed your lead these past few weeks, Lash. I have found this season to be just interminable.
I don't mind the concept of "Redemption Island," but I really hope this is the last time they bring back players from previous seasons. Though it's probably unintentional, every time I hear Jeff Probst call Rob, "Mariano," it just smacks of favoritism.
Posted by MLLASH on :
Yeah, this 2 experienced pros thing has been a compelete and total failure all the way around.
The deliciousness of seeing Russell taken out early has all been lost by the idiocy of keeping Rob around until the end.
FLOP.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Survivor history normally shows that mixing experienced players with greenhorns tends to favor the experienced ones. Fans vs. Favorites showed that. Stephanie got far when she was brought back with Bobby-John (or whatever) that one season. I like Boston Rob, but his success against all these n00bs is definitely hurting the element of suspense.
Save the vets for All-Star editions, which I always like.

My order of who I'd like to see return from Redemption Island -
1. Mike 2. Matt 3. Andrea 4. Grant
and I'd basically like any of the four RI players to win the game. I find the remaining four Survivors in the main part of the game all insufferable.
Posted by Blacula on :
I haven't seen all the seasons of Survivor but this was EASILY the worst of all the ones I have seen.
I don't know how anyone could not have seen Rob winning this game since practically the beginning. It has been SO obvious from the editing and all the focus on him and even from his interactions with all the other challengers. You could tell that the Zapatera team all respected him and that he had pulled the wool over his own team's eyes to such an extent that if any of them resented him for what he did to them (like Grant did) they would all still think he was worthy of the $1 million - which is exactly what happened.
After the first few episodes, this season had absolutely ZERO surprise or surprise. Heck - I could have given you a boot list at the merge and it would have been spot on to the boot list that eventually happened. That did not make for interesting television.
This season was a total let-down and that feeling seemed to pervade the atmosphere at the Reunion too. Other than Jeff obvisouly giddy that his man-crush Rob had finally claimed a victory on his fourth attempt, everyone else (even the audience) just seemed somber and bored - like they were as over it all as I was. Which they probably were - it must have been so frustrating for them to watch the show and see that they had been Rob's pawns all season, and that that had played perfectly into CBS's hands because this had been THE ROB SHOW all along.
And now they're bringing back the exact same gimmick of having two returning Survivors next season?!? Ugh! Well, it couldn't be a worse season than this one I guess.

Bleh.
Watch one of them be Matt (who will promptly be voted out to Redemption in the first Tribal Council ).

WHAT? AGAIN? Did they learn nothing feom this season going tits-up so quickly? SO glad I skipped these last several episodes.

Called it. Attorney David even spelled it out in his closing statement to the jury.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yep, you did. Usually, the tribe turns on the big manipulator and gives all their votes to the flunky. The difference here was Rob's rock star status. I didn't take that into account.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
Robs GREEDY!! period. thats why I stopped watching Survivors.
Posted by MLLASH on :
I'm worried this show has lost my interest entirely, like American Idol has. That's okay, I'm enjoying my scripted shows these days.
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
Rob just had to be the man of the house and bring home as much money as his wife did.
Posted by LegionFan223 on :
I think it was set up by the producers to keep bringing Rob back until he finally won. After 4 tries, it does not seem ike such a feat. Very dissapointed in the tribes for not getting rid of him. Hopefully he will keep his word and NOT ever play again. The viewers award should go to 2nd place, if the Survivor winner is also named Fan Fave.

SURVIVOR starts back tonight. With that same Redemtpion Island twist, bleeeeah.
ALso bringing back former players Coach and Ozzy.
I missed Ozzy's previous seasons so he is new to me and I grew to enjoy Coach's general ridonkulousness, so we'll see how this goes.
But I'm actually more excited about ANTM: All-Stars!
Posted by Risky Barton, boy adventurer on :
I kinda like Ozzy's laid-backed-ness and Coach seems to be slowly winning over the tribe, although he's still amusingly nutbaggy.
Cochran the adorable nerd was fun to watch. I was a little surprised that Semhar was voted out unanimously.
Brandon, Russell's nephew? >bleeah<
Posted by Blacula on :
The youtube account that I used to watch Survivor episodes at has been disabled. I was amazed he/she was able to get away with it for as long as they did though.
Had to download this episode which I hate doing. Paranoid about viruses.
It was a good episode though and I'm optimistic about this season. (Shudders remembering his positive thoughts at the beginning of last season too though... )
It helps that I don't dislike Coach or Ozzy as much as I disliked Rob and Russell I think - though I didn't really like Ozzy in the one season I saw him in (Cook Islands) so we'll see how he goes.
I too was surprised by the unanimous Semhar vote. I totally thought Cochran was the one who would be going.
Early favourites -
Mark (though the desperation to be called Papa Bear was a bit tragic I thought - and you just know that that is totally his gaydar/manhunt/grindr/etc. profile name! haha), Dawn (by virtue of her early breakdown reminding me of Holly of a few seasons ago - whom I loved) Edna (the nice-seeming Asian lady who helped Coach) Farmer guy (whose name I have forgotten) Cochran (kind of annoys me too but I like that he's not just a boring model type - so sick of them)
Posted by Lard Lad on :

What?!?! I could SWEAR I remember you posting about having a serious crush on Ozzy back in the day?!?! Dontcha remember the "race wars" (he was one of the hispanics) Survivor that begat him? You saw that one, right?
Posted by Blacula on :
Cook Islands (Ozzy's original season) is one of my favourite Survivor seasons and I really liked Ozzy's alliance of underdogs that went on to be the final 4. However, Ozzy was always my least favourite of that alliance. He has an arrogance about him that I find a bit off-putting.
I think this current season is either going to improve my opinion of him or push him firmly into the DISLIKE camp - like last season did with Rob.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Ozzy rocked in his first season, then seemd on the clueless side in Fans v Faves, when he got blindsided (IIRC). He's kind of all over the place in this first ep, but he's very watchable.
Coach has always been loveably out-there with a heavy side of annoying. But he's always entertaining either in and of himself or in seeing others react to him. He comes off as being genuinely weird though, rather than affecting it. I'd like to see if he really HAS some game this time, because he's always followed someone else's coattails in the past to get as far as he did.
Posted by Dr. Tot Rocket on :
I liked that there were not the usual 2 obvious choices for tribal tonight!
I also liked that Ozzy's team won immunity- not that I prefer them yet- but because I like the teams to be even early on.
I was cool with tonight's vote-out... that player was a wee bit too bitchy for my taste.
I was prepared to come on here and marvel/complain that somehow sleazy Brandon was never mentioned as the one shooting for Mikayla while everyone else was getting thrown under the bus, and then he went and outed himself. He's still my least favorite in the game. He's more like Uncle Russell than he wants to admit.
If there is a Hantz family member involved in this program next season, I think I'll take a pass.
Posted by Blacula on :
Brandon is certifiable. Poor Mikayla. Because it's HER fault that HE finds her so attractive?!? If they were living in the 13th century he would have had her burned at the stake as a witch by now.
Kinda slowish eps but I'm into this season so far. Major alarm bells that Ozzy and his alliance are reminding me of Rob and his BORING mob from last season though. Ozzy=Rob (complete with Idol), Keith=Grant, the two other girls = Ashley & Natalie. For that reason I'm much more rooting for Coach's team now. I can NOT handle a repeat of last season's dreck-fest.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Season finale is this Sunday... season has been hit or miss for me... largely unlikable cast, especially the final five... there's no one left I'd like to see win... Ozzy turned out to be a major tool as well... Brandon is indeed certifiable, as highlighted by tonight's episode...
Posted by MLLASH classic on :
I think I never made it past September... the Redemption Island and bringing back former players must cease.
Posted by Blacula on :
I've actually enjoyed this season. And in a major turn around, Ozzy and his tribe went from being my least favourites at the beginning to my most favourites after they switched things around by voting out Ozzy's chief ally Elise, and then when Ozzy took that crazy gamble of getting himself voted onto Redemption Island.
Their crazy tactics made this season so much more interesting. Which is why it was so frustrating that that pathetic little snake Cochran ruined it all by betraying them to Coach and his gang of boring Rob's Zombies 2.0.
Of the remainings, I'm really hoping Ozzy makes it back from Redemption Island to win the whole thing, but since that's unlikely to happen, I guess Sophie is my by default favourite of the remaining blue tribe.
Posted by MLLASH classic on :
I read the finale recap. This show may have just run its course.
I'll try again next time *IF* there are NO former players or Redemption Island.
Lardy I just noticed your question-- I def. remember starting off watching the 'Race Wars' season but remember nothing about it other than the 4 segregated tribes.

Of the final three, I was glad for the winner... seemed to be the only truly deserving one...

After bailing early on the Coach/Ozzy season (and not regretting it for one moment), it looks like I can get back into SURVIVOR when it returns in Feb!
NO FORMER CASTMEMBERS! NO MENTION OF RUSSELL OR HIS RELATIVES! NO REDEMPTION ISLAND! Those 3 simple things have ensured my return. Learn about ONE WORLD here... including this season's villain, the gay republican (I hope he's hot!!):

And his name is Colton Cumbie? Really?
Posted by SharkLad on :
Wonder if Jeff will call him Colton or Cumbie...
Posted by MLLASH's *glare* on :
OMG!!! TELL ME you guys are watching this season!
I just caught up with the first 4 episodes--
HOW did that horrible queen Colton go from being the ladyboy who would be first "boy" out to being an almost Disneylike EVIL QUEEN OF THE TRIBE?
This has been hysterical! Colton getting away with being COMPLETELY EVIL and rolling her bitchy eyes at everything in Tribal is cracking me up...
Posted by Blacula on :
I am watching this season too and LOVING it!
However, Colton is the THE MOST VILE, REPREHENSIBLE SCUMBAG I have ever seen on reality television. He was entertainingly awful in the first few episodes but, in this lastest one, with his bare-faced racism, elitism and all-around rudeness, he has crossed over into unwatchably awful territory.
And Tarzan, whom I had been liking previously, went down with him after that weird rant about how just because America has a black President now, somehow race issues are no longer a problem? When it's pitifully obvious that one of Colton's biggest problems with Bill is that he's black? Tarzan just outed himself as one of those rich (he's a plastic surgeon) 'poor me' white men who react defensively when the injustices that some from their race/class inflict are pointed out.
That said, there are a lot of good characters this season. Both tribes have been chock-full of likeable and unlikeable characters. And I've really enjoyed seeing the dynamics created by both the male/female split and the one-camp situation.
And this latest episode, with all the tension about whether the guys would give up immunity or not, was amazing! What a crazy decision. I loved Jeff's stunned reaction when they walked into Tribal!
My absolute hope, hope, hope to win at this point is Sabrina. She is one cool, classy customer! Love her! Failing that, I wouldn't mind seeing Chelsea, Christina or Kim from the female tribe win. Or Jonas or Troyzan from the male tribe.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Probst had been saying from the beginning that Colton was a total villain... after this week, I'd say he's a total prick... completely watchable in a Disneylike evil queen kind of way, but a total prick... I usually don't subscribe to the whole "person you love to hate" thing, but I have to admit I am loving to hate Colton... I see a major blindside coming his way...
Posted by Legion Tracker on :
I wonder what kind of reaction Colton is getting back in the real world after the latest episode. He sounds like a person who avoids dealing with people unlike himself, but perhaps some "outsiders" are finding ways to break through his barriers.
Posted by MLLASH's *glare* on :
Colton's dickheadishness continued unabated until-- YOU KNOW WHAT. Colton, meet Karma. Karma has a bone (and a body organ) to pick with you.
Now that THAT happened, things can really get to popping. I'd have liked the guy/girl teams to remain a little longer so Colton could pick off (or attempt to anyway) more of the he-men types.
Posted by Blacula on :
Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead!
And not a moment too soon either because, after that despicable bullying of Christina at the beginning of the episode, I had just decided that I could not watch one more episode with him.
Some people find him entertaining to watch? I found myself wishing bodily harm upon him. AND THEN GOD DELIVERED! Thank you Jesus! Now if only you can strike down that rancid shrew Alicia in the next episode too!
Posted by Blacula on :
P.S. Here's a secret scene they didn't show in the episode -
Colton and Alicia are vile, racist, sociopathic pieces of scum. And she's a TEACHER?!? God help her poor students. I wonder if she joins in on the bullying of her poor kids?
One thing I did love though was that Colton left the game and didn't give her his Idol! He'd rather have a little keepsake than help his weasel henchwoman in the game! haha Just goes to show how selfish and uncaring people like him are.
Posted by Blacula on :
Still really enjoying this season. There have certainly been a lot of twists and turns (not all of them planned).
The ladies seem to have an almost certain lock on the top spots at this point though (the guys were crazy for not staying united after the merge) - but anything can happen before the end.
People I like at this point - Christina, Sabrina, Troyzan... and Mike and his sneaky, trouble-stirring ways has really grown on me.
People I dislike at this point - Alicia, Tarzan, Jay (seems like a secret asshole) and Kat (she's fairly harmless but I don't find overly stupid people all that funny/endearing).
People I'm indifferent too - everyone else. (I used to like Kim but she seems like she's being too groomed for the obvious winner at this point and I'd rather be surprised.)
I think this is one of the better seasons I've seen in a long time actually.
Posted by MLLASH's *glare* on :
Agreed, Blacs... definitely better than the previous Russel and Rob seasons (although I really liked Heroes vs. Villains except for Parvati losing).
Why did Jonas practically slit his OWN throat at Tribal by calling out Mike? That was a gamble that did NOT pay off. Tarzan should be next to go.
I too am down with Christina, Sabrina and now Troyzan. Less down with Mike, I prefer Jay... I admit his looks MIGHT influence that somehwat, though Mike is handsome as well.
Posted by SharkLad on :
Between this week's and last week's blindsides, the boys sure proved to be pretty dumb... and (can it be possible?) I actually miss Colton...
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I'm still enjoying this season a bunch-- and especially hope to see Kim take a BIG fall.
The fact that Jay is an utter and complete dumbass only makes me MORE sexually attracted to him. Can't wait to see him all cleaned up next week, although he HAS to have the PRETTIEST beard I have ever seen! *dreamy sigh*
I'm still hoping for a Sabrina or Troyzan victory with Chelsea and Christina as my next picks.
I can't say I *miss* Colton but I *AM* curious how differently the game is playing out in the alternate universe where he didn't get sick.
Posted by Blacula on :
Yes - as much as I hated Colton, he was at least a scheming, back-stabbing game-player who wouldn't have just laid down and let Kim control the whole game like she's doing. It would be interesting to see how differently this season would have turned out on Earth-3 where he didn't get sick.
That said, I'm still quite happy with the way things are going. I like pretty much all of the girls (minus Alicia) so I don't mind seeing them in charge... but I definitely want to see some surprise vote-offs before the end; and the vote off that would be my #1 surprise (and therefore the one I most want to happen at this point) is Kim.
Unfortunately, the other players (minus Troyzan) are all too dumb to target her I fear, and the editing is also so heavily pointing toward her victory, that I think she's going to be around until the end.
Still hoping for a Christina, Sabrina or Chelsea win, with Leif being my fourth pick for being the little engine who could.
Troyzan seems like dead man walking at this point so I'll be very surprised if he lasts more than a few more Tribal Councils.
Posted by Lard Lad on :
The girls on the outer fringes of the female alliance would be well advised to turn on Kim before all the guys are gone. Christina and Alicia are surely looking at fifth and sixth place if things go the way they look to. And who wants that?!?!
Posted by SharkLad on :
So, the decimation of the men continues... Troyzan (stupidest name ever) is gone as soon as he fails to win an immunity idol... he made a lot of sense at tribal council in terms of how some of the fringe girls could shift things... shame they didn't listen...
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yeah, if they wanted to, Christina, Alicia, Leif and Tarzan could have sided with Troyzan and used him until they got all the other four out...and then vote Troyzan out. Are Christina and Alicia REALLY too dumb to know that they're next to go after the guys?!?!
Whatev. Looks to be a very predictable season from this point out unless Troy can somehow keep winning challenges or find an idol.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I am kinda hoping Troy DOES "pull a Fabio" and win all the immunities! I'd like to see him make final 3, and that is the only way he will make it there.
Posted by SharkLad on :
and so it goes... hasta la vista, Troy... you were a cocky bastard...
Posted by Blacula on :
As always in Survivor, my interest in the season wanes when one tribe just dominates over another. And this season has definitely been going that way for the last few episodes. If Kim, Chelsea and whoever they decided to drag along with them as a goat are the final 3 then the editors will have done a terrible job of keeping this season suspenseful - because it seems like all signs have been pointing to those two, Kim especially, since practically the beginning.
On the plus side, Christina survives YET ANOTHER Tribal that could very easily have seen her sent home. I do feel sorry for her though - despite seeming perfectly lovely, she's clearly not a favourite of anyone's out there.
My hope to win at this point - ANYONE BUT KIM (because that would make for an extremely boring and predictable ending). Though I'd hate to see Alicia win anything either.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I'd be happy with an anybody but Kim or Alcia win too. I thought my interest would also wane now that Troy's out, but... I kinda find myself excited about watching the girls pull out their claws and turn on each other.
Posted by Blacula on :
Well, MLLASH was right about the in-fighting between the girls bringing the excitement. I thought this latest episode was one of the best of the season.
The Tribal Council especially was one of the best yet - loved the way Kat kept digging her own grave and making herself more and more unlikeable (to me anyway), and the editing before Jeff revealed the final vote was great -the way Kat looked to her "allies" for assistance and the camera showed all three of them looking away (there was probably some editorial trickery going on there but it was still a great touch) - and then finally to see one of the most annoying members of the female tribe sent packing in tears... it was a thrilling scene all round.
Hoping the rest of the season continues the excitement.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
Tee-hee! Kat's elimination was hysterical! I wonder if she still thinks blindsides are fun and exciting? Poor thing, at least she can go to her cousin for support ...and a kinda creepy jumping, arms and legs around his body hug!!!!! If he isn't gay, that was just WRONG.
Yeah we finally got a little unexpected spice this episode... certainly the most fun episode to watch since Colton left.
This is the first time I recall seeing a girls alliance (I know there have been others I missed) in action... who's gonna feel the SLASH of their claws next?
Posted by SharkLad on :
Kat's elimination was one of the best in recent seasons... an epic blindside right after she was going on about how much she much likes when blindsides happen... she sealed her fate with that reward challenge... too much of a threat to Kim and Chelsea... I can't remember a cast member crying like she did when voted off... can't wait to see how she acts at her first appearance on the jury...
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I'm sure she's also blabbing to the guys at the Ponderosa about how Kim is the brains behind all of their eliminations. Could bode VERY badly for Kim...
Posted by Blacula on :
... or VERY well for her if they see her as the puppet master behind the scenes.
I think it will depend on how bitter the jury is. Will they vote according to their wounded hearts? Or will they give the award based on game-play (which, as much as it bores me, Kim has been running rings around the other girls in)?
I'm leaning toward the latter option. The editing this season has been shining SOOOOO neon-bright toward a Kim victory that I'll be amazed if anyone else gets even a couple of votes. Kim has got this one in the bag IMO.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I guess, all things considered, she really does deserve the win. I just hate to be bored
I skipped this week's ep and read the recap instead, which seems like a wise move considering the predictable vote-off.
I'm DEFINITELY watching next week though-- that should be fairly interesting!
Posted by SharkLad on :
The finale always seems to sneak up on me... as uneven as this season has been, I'm pretty happy with the final five... I'd love to see Kim get voted out early in the finale leaving Christina in the final three... the final tribal council is always best when the remaining survivors have to defend why they are worthy of being there...
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Kim is very slick to get Alicia and Christina to turn on Tarzan instead of taking out Chelsea, which would have been the smarter move. Kim's skating figure eights around everyone else with her moves. Alicia and Christina don't have a chance of winning, now. Kim would deserve it, but I'd like to see Sabrina win most of those that remain.
Posted by Blacula on :
I had no love for Tarzan so I'm not sorry to see him go. I AM sorry that there seems to have been so little talk about getting Kim out though, when she's clearly the biggest threat out there. (Unless it's been edited out.)
I'd like to see Christina, Chelsea or Sabrina win the final. It won't happen though. I am 100% positive that Kim will win. The editing has been way too obvious this season.
If I'm wrong I'll post a nude pic in this thread!

quote:Originally posted by Legion Tracker: But Kat showed a surprising and touching side of herself at the final Tribal Council.
Yeah, tribal was decidedly un-bitter and really touching in the cases of Kat and Tarzan.
Colton got raked over the coals in the reunion. And so did Alicia for her "special needs" comments. Honestly, these guys were hamming it up for the cameras as many in their situation are prone to do. I never take them too seriously. I get annoyed by the behavior but never offended.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
I skipped watching and read about it on EW. While I am disappointed to be missing out on nudie Blacula pictures, I suppose there really was no other way for this to go. I am surprised there was no Bitter Jury Syndrome... but that there wasn't just proves the point that Kim 100% deserved the win.
I really want a season with moments like Parvati playing 2 immunity idols at tribal again soon though.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
Uggggh... I read on EW that next season sees 3 returning players, and rumour is one of them is Russell. I shan't be subjected to another Russell season. I have come to a conclusion: Returning player seasons suck, unless it is an All-Star season, then things get interesting.
Posted by Blacula on :
^ I'm really over returning players too. Unless, like you say, it's an All-Stars season; or what I would REALLY like to see - AN ALL-WINNER'S SEASON! That would be great. I think I heard a while ago that one of the reasons they hadn't done it yet was because there hadn't been enough female winners to even out the cast, but surely they'd have enough by now?
Anyhoo, as for this seasons's winner - YAWN! Completely predictable since about episode 3. She was a worthy winner though and seems like a nice person too so I can't begrudge Kim her win. She deserved it. I just wish the editors had been able to make the outcome seem a little less inevitable. But maybe they only had so much to work with if the others out there just weren't playing the game as hard as she was?
However, since I got Lash so excited by the idea, it seems only fair that I go ahead and post the afore-mentioned nude pic.

Actually, Lash, the promo made it pretty clear that all three returnees were players who had been medically evaced from the show because of injury or illness. Russell wasn't one of those guys.
If that's true, I'm crossing my fingers that among the three will be Michael from S2/Australian Outback who burned his hands in a fire when he passed out. He was really owning that season before the incident. (Colby ended up being the star afterwards even though Tina won.) Michael was one of six or so possibilities shown in a montage. I previously kept hoping he would return in other All-Star, etc. editions with returning participants, but he's never shown up.
Colton would be another obvious possibility. I still would have liked to have seen how this past season would have turned out had he not gone down. Kim getting to the end would not have been a foregone conclusion, I suspect.
Posted by MLLASH's back on :
Then I am relieved!! I actually think bringing back players who left for medical reasons is kinda nice! The Russel rumor was started in the comments section... should known better than to pay attention to the comments section.

This could be fun. Is it the first time a former TV star has played?:
The Suvivor process of weeding out competitors is inherently against the Facts of Life basic philosophy of aking the good AND taking the bad! It was about comradery and team spirit... The very opposite of what Survivor stands for!
(that said, please take my post as tongue-in-cheek, rather than a serious objection. I really do not care about anything Survivoresque at all)

Blair Warner survived the first episode-- but I'm pretty sure she's a goner the first time her tribe goes to council.
I kinda like the 3 teams format. Seems like it's a better way to keep players in the dark on most of the other players.
Also... what happened to Tattoo McCrackhead is the VERY DEFINITION of "BACKFIRE". What a dumbass stunt he pulled!
Posted by SharkLad on :
I think Blair is gonna be out of there pretty soon too... sadly, women of her age very rarely make it very far in the game... they're usually looked at as weak...
Loved that Zane got the boot after that bonehead move... it was too early in the game to try to pull that...

Agreed on all counts... Would like to see all three returnees get the boot asap, especially Penner...
Posted by lowercase mllash on :
Yeah, that Penner guy is a dick. Russell Swan is only a little bit less of a dick and the other guy is going to end up chopping his own head off in a challenge if he doesn't go!
Posted by Blacula on :
I agree with all the agreeance in the latest posts! The three tribe situation is one format switch-up of recent seasons that actually works!
And it's going to make the merge super interesting since there (hopefully) won't be the usual 'one tribe decimates another' that often happens in this show. Now if only the purple tribe can stop losing and keep the game even!
My top 2 from each tribe -
Purple - Russell and sex-therapist lady. Red - ummm have we even seen more than 5 minutes of this team? Anyone but that baseball guy (who is apparently a renowned asshole and homophobe in real life). Yellow - Blair Warner and Mike and the quiet black guy... and maybe even RC and Abby for their potential to have an epic falling-out and cat-fight! I think this might be my favourite team.
Posted by SharkLad on :
And the decimation continues... not disappointed at all in who got voted out this week, especially after the post-challenge rant... what a tool!
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yeah, and apparently, we'll have a medical evac next week. Promos imply it's ex-baseball player Jeff. I'm hoping it's not Michael again with all the emphasis on how injury-prone he's been. He's an old favorite of mine, so I'd hate to see him go out like that a second time.
Posted by lowercase mllash on :
I kinda love the last 2 standing.
I really REALLY hope there is a mass shakeup into 2 tribes so those last 2 standing have a fair chance.
Also delighted a certain sitcom star is still there, taking the good and taking the bad!
Posted by Lard Lad on :
Yeah, it's basically Stephanie and Bobby John all over again! Dunno if i love these two, though. If they both go in the next two tribals, the season to this point would seem like a waste of time.
Posted by Blacula on :
I'm still enjoying this season but it is SUCH a shame that the purple team have underperformed as badly as they have in challenges as I think more balanced results would have made the show more interesting.
The three tribe twist is a GREAT idea but it's been more or less wasted since we're effectively just back down to 2 tribes already. I feel pretty confident that there is going to be a merge next week.
I also like Malcolm and Denise and hope they can survive the uphill climb they've got ahead of them to stay in the game.

And Blair lives to see another day... couldn't believe that she could keep Denise down...
The last ten minutes of this episode really ticked me off... you could totally feel the hand of the producers in it... there was no way Jeff and the blond kid were going to vote off Penner... their dialogue was so fake... it was just there to try to create phony tension... really annoying...

The last half of the latest Survivor episode may be some of the best TV this show has ever given.
Everything from the mad scrambling at the beach to the wild and crazy Tribal Council to the bitter recriminations of the departing player was just pure gold.
LOVED it!

Blair is quite the little player... who knew she had it in her... wouldn't be surprised if she makes it to the final three...

Oh, and the departing player -- DOUCHE!

^ I know! And a completely ignorant douche too since Obama had nothing to do with the tax on game show winnings. So glad to see him/her gone!
And Lisa is turning out to be quite the in-control, strategic mastermind isn't she? What a turn-around from those first few episodes.
I've been really enjoying this season actually. In Lisa, Denise, Malcolm, Mike and Jonathan it's given me 5 players that I really like and hope for good things for.

So happy with this week's vote... Possibly the most cringe inducing exit of any player in the show's history...
Great final six... and next week's ep looks pretty good...

Down to the final five tonight! Finale on Sunday...
