Anyone watching this. It's my new summer guilty pleasure. The level of talent blows American Idol away. So far, I'm liking just about all of the contestants. Some of the standouts for me are Marty, Heather, J.D., Jordis, Neal, Tara and Ty.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
We watched last night's show (missed Monday's because I love Hell's Kitchen). Caroline didn't care for it but I liked it a hell of a lot more than Idol. Good to see the rockers getting a chance.
And I think the girls are kicking butt. I don't know the name of the first performer last night (the redhead who did the Jefferson Airplane song) but she was great. As was Jordis. Jordis reminds me of a harder-edged Amy Lee.
Can't say any of the guys really stood out for me except for Ty.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
Heather is the redhead. She's really good - edgy. I can see her as the legitimate front "man" to a rock band.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I thought she was dead-on last night. It was like she was channeling Grace Slick.

Scott, I thought the new episode wasn't on until tonight. I hope I didn't miss it.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Crap, maybe different locations have different times? Episode two for the week was last night. Here they show it Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monday is their rock makeover or something show. Never see it because it conflicts with Hell's Kitchen.
Tuesday is the hour long sing-off and voting.
Wednesday is the elimination where the bottom three have to perform an INXS song.
Are you getting three a week? I wouldn't put it past the UT market to be different than the rest of the nation.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
Argghhh!!! Scott - I missed it. I thought it was on Wednesday and Thursday. So instead of watching BB6 (which is boring me) I popped in a DVD (Bourne Identity). We are getting it 3 times a week on the same schedule as you. Last week they repeated it on Saturday, but no such luck this week. Damn. I'll have to be satisfied with the snippets they show on tonight's elimination episode.

Crap! And I've already deleted it from my TiVo or I could have at least made you a sound recording (if not a DVD) from it. Too bad this isn't NBC, then you could be sure that Bravo would repeat it.

Don't you think the level of talent is amazing on Rock Star? I mean, how did they find 15 superb performers, when American Idol is lucky to find one or two mediocre performers. I suspect that part of American Idol's problem is it's format - trying to fit individuals into a cookie cutter mold. If they'd let the singers do what they do best and realize that they can't be everything, then it would be a more interesting show.
I can't help but wonder how Bo Bice and Nadia Turner would fare on Rock Star.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Miles ahead of any of the so-called singing talent shows. Bo was one of the few bright spots of last year's AI but none of the previous years touch the talent, IMO, of Rock Star.
BTW, I didn't erase last night's episode yet. If you want I can make up some MP3 of the performances and let you know when they are ready and where to grab them.

Typical... Show's about an Aussie Rock Band... and we don't even get it here in OZ. I hate marketers, distributors and television executives. If only being an executive meant you were about to get executed.

That would be absolutely great Scott. Thanks so much.

Anyone catch this last night? It wasn't the best night for some, but a few really shone.
The good - Ty did an incredible job with Everybody Hurts. The guy can really sing. MYG did a great job with Lola - the guy just oozed sex appeal last night. I could really see him fronting INXS. Marty gave a great performance of Lithium. While I don't care for the song (or Nirvana), Marty has great stage presence. Jordis was good, as were Suzie and Tara, but I don't think they reached the level of the guys above.
The bad:
The worst was JD with a horrible, lacklustre off-key version of "We Are the Champions." This guy really sucked, sounded amateurish and certainly got his come-uppance after so much arrogance last week. His fellow contestants really dislike him.
Most of the others were just so-so and I just can't remember them.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
JD was definitely the worst. Overall, I had the same feelings about last night's performances as you.
Ty just killed. I wish he had more time with the song though. Everybody Hurts needs more than 90 seconds to really get going.
Mig (is it Myg?) did good with Lola. Not a spot on performance vocally but as a stage act it was perfect. And he was believable for the song, you know? He could appeal to either sex and that will take him a long way.
When I heard Marty was going to do Nirvana I began to pray for his soul. I knew Dave Navarro would literally leap across the stage and kill him with one of his tattoos if he screwed it up. I thought Marty did well with it and I'm a Nirvana fan.
No one else really stood out for me. The woman were way off, especially my favorite, Jordis. But JD should have been slapped after what he did to Champions. At the very least he needs to go tonight.
I can't believe we are the only two watching this Semi. I love this show so much more than AI.

I suspect that the others just haven't discovered it yet. Typically, summer series tend to be a bit cheesy, and maybe people are wary of this one. I think it's a real gem, though. I expect that quite a few of these performers have great careers ahead of them. They've obviously fronted bands before. They come across as professionals, while American Idol contestants come across as only having sung at their dads' office Christmas parties.
Posted by knowjack on :
Finally watched this last night. Marty and Ty were the best, by far. I'd like to see more of MiG and the blond girl who sang "Give a Little Bit". Jordis also has potential.
The rest weren't very good, IMO.
Posted by Bubble Wrap Boy on :
Brandon? totally butchered Tempted. I cringed throughout the whole performance. Missed JD and Ty Mig was sexy as hell, damn those jeans looked INCREDIBLE on him! And I can't decide if the wedding band turned me on or off! Jordis was great. Love her.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I'm in shock. SHOCK! I can't believe who was in the bottom three let alone who was sent home.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
I didn't think Heather would go. She was a contender, in my opinion. The positive thing is that any of these people can front a band and I expect that they will (or already do).
I'm beginning to wonder if any woman really stands a chance. Does INXS, always an all male band have any intention of being fronted by a woman? I wonder.
I was surprised that JD was not in the bottom 3, but I guess he escaped on the strength of his past performances. I'm also not really appreciating Brandon and don't expect him to win, but who knows.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
This continues to be a great show. The standouts last night, imo, were Jordis, Marty and JD. Very good were Deeana and MiG. All of the others were good -- there certainly isn't a bad performer in the bunch.
As much as I don't care for JD's immaturity, I think he, Marty, and MiG are the contenders. If I thought INXS was serious about a woman (which I don't) I'd have Jordis in there as well.
How will they do a sequel? Rockstar: The Doors; Rockstar: the Beatles
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I think after Marty's performance last night the gig is his to lose. That's two weeks running he just knocked it out of the park and I think he's the best fit currently. I'd like to hear him do some of their music but, of couse, only those in the bottom three perform the INXS songs. At least currently. They have to come to a time soon where the remaining contestants perform the music they'll be doing if they win.
As for a sequel the Doors would be out since the lawsuit they just settled saying the name can't be used. And two of the remaining members have been touring with the "Doors of the 21st Century" lately, using new talent. Who else could use a new lead singer? Styx? Maybe put Journey back together?
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
So Tara was booted last night. Of the three - Ty, Brandon, and Tara - she was probably the one to go. I do like her though - but i see her more as a pop singer rather than a rocker. She's very pretty and has a nice stage presence. I think if she finds her niche she could be very successful.
I don't expect Brandon to be around too much longer. Every time I look at him I think to myself, "This guy looks like an addict or alcoholic in recovery." There's just something wierd about him.
Posted by Bubble Wrap Boy on :
Tara has a great voice, but she always preforms like she's bored out of her mind. There's like a dis-connect between her voice and the rest of her body, these lovely words are coming out, but to look at her you'd think she was wondering whether or not she'd left the iron on when she left the house.
Brandon... Brandon is just scary.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I'll agree with you both on Brandon. He looks like someone who has issues. If they let him join the band they better make sure to lock their doors and have seperate rooms.
But as to Tara, I was glad to finally see her go. I never really got much from her performances and she never seem to really care to be there.
I found it interesting that there is no Monday show this next week. The first week I'd be able to watch too because Hell's Kitchen is over.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
Scott, the Monday night show is no longer on CBS. They've moved it to Sunday on VH! (which is owned by CBS). I believe it's on at 8:00 p.m. They announced that on last night's show.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I must have totally missed that announcement. Thanks Semi!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Hmm. Didn't see it on the schedule for VH1 at all, online or on my TiVo. So if they did show it, I missed it.
As for last night's show, most of the performer's brought their A game. With Amy and Marty leading the way. That was the absolute best I've ever seen Amy perform. And Marty just keeps upping the ante.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
Amy? There"s no Amy, Scott.
I liked MiG, Marty, Suzie, Ty and reluctantly JD. I think the bottom 3 will be Brandon, Jessica and either Deanna or Jordis (but I think Jordis' past performances might keep her out).
I think Jessica will go home this week, and maybe Brandon too.
As for those I like, I think either Marty or MiG would be a great fron-man for INXS. JD is good, but he's got too much ego and would want the band called "JD and INXS". Ty is a great singer, but INXS is not the right band for him. Suzie would be a great guest artist, but I can't see her as the winner. The same with Jordis.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I have no idea where Amy came from unless I was thinking of Jordis' outfit. It would have been perfect on Amy Lee. I, of course, meant Suzie who did an excellent version of REM's "Losing My Religion".
Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :
JD doesnt have ego, he's enthusiastic but i dont see the ego, the guy can sing and i find him far better then the rest of them. He's from nova scotia so i'm kinda bias but i heard tara sing(orignally from NS) and i thought she sucked but to be hnnest i find most of them suck . i think its cause they are singing someone elses songs.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Finally caught the Sunday show on VH1. I think Jordis' team screwed up by not going with JD's song. Ty's team song belonged on Sesame Street and Jordis' team would have won if they hadn't been divided.

I missed it last night. But my favorite is the concert show on Tuesdays. Just as long as I don't miss that one.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
What can I say? This competition just keeps getting better and better. The quality and talent of the singers left in the competition is staggering (American Idol, eat your poor withered little heart out!). Last night each singer performed a song chosen for them by INXS. Here they are:
Jordis-Knockin On Heavens Door-Bob Dylan. Jordis was amazing. She sat on a stool and mezmerized the audience and INXS with her gorgeous vocals and flawless performance. Because this song is so well known and over-done it was a difficult song to pump originality and freshness into. Jordis succeeded beyond expectations. INXS said they were privileged to witness the birth of a star. I want to buy this recording.
Suzie-Bring It On Home-Sam Cooke I love Sam Cooke and this song. Dave Navarro and INXS liked Suzies' performance. While it was technically good, I didn't find it to be particularly inspired.
Ty-Maggie May-Rod Stewart The way to describe Ty's performance is "pure joy." He loved doing this song and his enthusiasm infected the audience. I don't like the song, but I really liked how he did it. The guy has a gorgeous voice and he stuck his tongue out 3 times. Ty's another whose recordings I'd buy.
Jessica-Torn-Natalie Imbruglia Jessica was lacklustre. I think it's time for her to leave. That said, she would still blow everyone on American Idol out of the water. She's got loads of talent, but the competition is better.
Deanna-I Can't Make You Love Me-Bonnie Raitt Deanna is really beautiful on stage but I think her vocal range is limited. She did a nice job on this song, but it wasn't up to the level of the other performers.
JD-As Tears Go By-Rolling Stones JD, the enfant terrible of the competition, is a petulant, pouting, spoiled brat. That said, he's got loads of talent and the ladies in the audience just love him. He really restrained himself for this song, and while it was very good, he was so restrained that it took away from his performance. INXS said he had done better in past performances. Nevertheless, he's safe.
Marty - Hit Me One More Time - Brittany Spears I can't believe that INXS did this to Marty. Nevertheless, Marty was fuckin' brilliant! He made it a dark and twisted rock song. He never left his stool -- no cheesy dancing. It was very intense. I'd buy his recording - so would Dave Navarro and INXS. Marty never ceases to amaze me. He's this humble guy who gets on stage devoid of ego and just performs. He would be a perfect winner of this competition.
Mig-Baby I Love Your Way-Peter Frampton MiG accompanied himself on piano -- a risky move - but he pulled it off beautifully. He earned a standing ovation from INXS. I think MiG is the other one to beat in this competition.
If you are not watching this show, you are missing out on one of the best music programs on tv in years. Right Scott?

You got that right Brent. Rockstar INXS makes Idol look like a grade school talent show. I expect a lot of these performers to have careers even if they don't win.
I still think that Marty is the one to beat. He's a perfect fit for the group. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Mig or JD win. I just feel Marty works better as a band member not just a lead singer.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
On last night's show, JD was the standout. Here's my run down.
Suzie - Start Me Up (Rolling Stones) - INXS really liked it. I was bored.
JD - Cold as Ice (Foreigner) - yeah, he's an egotistical moody brat, but the guy's got so much talent. This was the best performance of the night. I'd pay to see JD perform. I think he might win this competition.
Deanna - original song written by her and Ty - This was one of her best perfromances, but I'm not a fan of Deanna's voice. It's too deep and her range is too limited for my taste. INXS said she stayed within her safety zone.
Ty - Proud Mary - Ty may not be a lot of people's favorite, but he is one of my favorites. I think he has one of the best voices in the comeptition. While I hate Proud Mary becasue of it being overdone by fourth rate lounge acts, Ty actually managed to breath life and soul into it. Jordis, Suzie and Deanna were his chorus. Ty might not win this competition, but I think he's got a bright future as a performer.
MiG - Do or Die (original song written by MiG) I was bored.
Marty - I Alone (Live) - When Marty sings he's great, but when he screams, he loses me. This song was a combination of singing and screaming. INXS suggested that next time he do less screaming. He's very intense
Jordis - Dream On (Aerosmith) - I love her voice. Unfortunately, this song requires a really powerful voice and Jordis just didn't have it in her last night. Nevertheless, she's also someone I would pay to see.
What I like about this competition is that INXS, Dave Navarro, and the host are all so respectful of the singer/competitors. And they deserve that respect. American Idol should take note that you don't have to ridicule your performers to keep an audience. You need to celebrate them and let them show their strengths, not force them into a silly mold.

All the women failed last night, in my opinion. The bands and Navarro's comments to Marty kind of pissed me off as I loved his performance and that song is intense. He did it perfect. If they want him to do something different then give them song choices that require them to do something different. I don't think it was his fault at all.
I enjoyed Mig's original song much more than Deanna's. I also like that he changed it from the way he started due to the band's input. If you didn't see Sunday's show then you missed how big a change he made in it. As for Deanna, she ticked me off by not acknowledging she created her song with Ty. It was all about her. She needs to go.
Ty's "Proud Mary" was the second best of the night for me, right behind Marty. While I don't think Ty is right for INXS he definitely will become someone on his own. I'd buy his album.
JD was okay. To me, though, he butchered the song and when Dave asked him if it was an artistic choice or if he messed up some notes it seemed, to me, he lied in his response. He saw the easy way out by saying it was a choice and took it. I'm liking his performances more than at the beginning but I don't see him winning.
I still think Marty is the front runner. The band's comments last night irked me so much I finally voted. Cast 50 votes at least for Marty through the web.

Admittedly, I don't know squat about music or the music business. I know what I like to listen to, and other then that, I can sort of 'read people' (it's a witchy thing, trust me) and so based on that, I offer this.....
Marty should win the competition. As he sang, even scream/sang (which I loved!) he looked for all the world like how The Vampire Lestat should have looked as a rock star during his brief career.
Jordis, I love her. She is so edgy and necessary and beautiful and talented. However, that aside, she is an emotional wreck waiting to happen. I sense that she has been forced into the competition with the dream/hope/family pressure of financial compensation for participating. I truly believe that she is going to crack up.
Another impression is that strong, handsome, talented and self confident Ty is gay. Yay! They should just come out and admit it. It wouldn't hurt his votes.
The rest of the folks, they are beneath my radar. I simply don't care one way or another.
Finally, the mansion where they are living and working....... Did anyone else watch "Mad, Mad, Mad House" ??? It's the same house from that show where they put 16 people in with a witch, a vampire, a voodun priestess, a modern primative and the fifth alt whom I forgot what that was..... Anyway, why don't they come out and acknowledge that it's the same house? Who could mistake those sweeping grounds? That pool with the ancient Greek and Roman looking fire bowls over the water, the gargoyles and griffins everywhere and the loooooong and narrow kitchen?
Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :
the thing i dont like about this show is the fact that after the winner is chosen, the band is still kinda fake. The singer will have to listem to what the band says, if the band says " didnt like the way you interacted with the crowd tonight, change it" he will have to change it. Its basically INXS with some slave singer. That being said however, i'm sure the new album will sell a couple of million at least. Its still fake though, and i cant see JD winning because he's too arrogant and would be better forming his own band or just solo.

Ewww... JD was AWFUL! Sorry, he's too busy primping for his adoring public... yuck.
I too thought Marty was the best... the Lestat reference was absolutely brilliant! And though I agreed with the band in that he's not INXS sounding... I couldn't help but wonder... wtf?! The INXS sound died when Michael Hutchence died... they need to re-vamp and move on and who better to do it that with someone like Marty. Otherwise they're going to be seen as a band desperately looking backward and trying to relive their hey day as opposed to a band that has been able to evolve.
Who in the world would want to win this expecting to be a Michael Hutchence clone... that would surely be the kiss of death for the new lead singer... one album then the band would die a slow death on a "recapturing the 80s" tour.
I adore Jordis, but she was completely awful last night. I actually for once liked Deanna's performance, thought Mig (who seems to be a hoe-in) was a bore. Ty ok... the back up singers seemed bored and uncomfortable, espeically Jordis. I like Suzie and though I don't think she should win, would love to see a career for her come from all this exposure.

It's great that we all have a different take on lasts night's show. Don't get me wrong -- I really like Marty and think he has loads of talent. He's one of my favorites to win as well. However, I don't like the screaming style. He sounds much better when restrained. Last week he was brilliant - who would have thought he could make such a great performance out of one of the most insipid songs ever. That said, I think Marty's still finding himself --- and when he does, watch out.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
Deanna was sent home last night. I think that was probably the right choice. Jordis was spared the bottom three, even though she said she would be upset if she wasn't in it after her performance last night. I guess she's collected a lot of get-out-of-jail-free cards from her previous brilliant performances.
The high-light of last night's show was Marty. It was shocking that he was in the bottom 3, but it gave him another chance to shine. When he steps on stage, he becomes another person. The self-effacing oh-so-likeable guy, turns into "Stage God." I'm now convinced that he has to win this competition.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I almost freaked when I heard he was bottom three. I would have bet the farm on the third one being Jordis. I think INXS' comments really hurt Marty with the voters.
But I knew he'd kick ass on that song. It was good to finally hear him do one of their songs.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Songs to be performed this week:
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd) - Marty Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) - Suzie will be doing this with a choir backing her Imagine (John Lennon) - Jordis You Can't Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones) - Ty (Will also have a choir backing) Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney and Wings) - Mig Suspicious Minds (Elvis) - JD
The only song they focused on someone performing was Bohemian Rhapsody. But the one I can't wait to hear is Wish You Were Here. I love Pink Floyd (#1 band of all time to me) and that album/song is my most favorite of theirs.
This week has probably the best selection of songs ever chosen for any of these type of shows.
[ August 28, 2005, 08:47 PM: Message edited by: Lightning Lad ]
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
BTW, Bohemian Rhapsody was the only contested song this week. Everyone else got their first pick.
Mig and Suzie both picked BR and and Mig thought it through, thinking about the arty performance side of it. He came to realize that doing another Queen song (he did We Will Rock You) wouldn't look good to the band so he let Suzie have the song. And if her practice is any hint she's going to butcher the song.

Bohemian Rhapsody must be such a hard song to sing. I would have avoided it like the plague. My favorite of all these songs is You Can't Always Get What You Want. I really don't like Live and let Die or Suspicious Minds.
Boy, did JD ever butcher the recording bit, eh? I think he blew his chances with the band.
Marty's recording session confirmed for me what I've always thought. When he screams, he loses all musicality. But when he tones it down and sings, he's got one of the best voices. Apparently INXS thought so last night too. I usally hate screaming in a song - there are very few who can get away with it. For me it takes a really pure voice - the lead singer from Led Zeppelin had the type of voice and his screams were always the highlight of the song.
Posted by Bubble Wrap Boy on :
I'm really looking forward to hearing Jordis sing Imagine, though I think Marty should have grabbed it, it would have given him a perfect opportunity to show a softer side.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I think Marty will do good with Wish You Were Here. It is really melodic (sp?) and I think it can show a softer side for him. Not as much as Imagine would but it will be a totally different track.
JD majorly messed up but he may not have killed his chances entirely. If anything the band saw his lazy side and the fact that his performances so far mayb have been pulled together last minute. Just think if he actually applied himself and used the time to practice like the others.

Well I don't think those are spots that will be changing at this point in his life, it's not like he's in his early 20s and still moldable. Unlike AI, these guys are older and in manyu ways somewhat already established in the industry. (Jordis being the one exception since she's only 23, she reminds me of a harder edged Norah Jones when she slows down the tempo)
But I think the editing of his messing up is probably an indication that he's doing quite well, and the producers are trying to build some sort of drama/storyline... which is why I'm thinking Suzie may be in trouble since she did so well last week and they made such a point of hammering that home... then they focused solely on her during the recent practices.
I'm thinking Mig, Marty and Jordis as the final 3, wilth Mig taking it.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
I finally got to see this show! I haven't read all the posts on this thread, so I don't really know what you guys think about things....
Jordis...I couldn't decide what I thought of her version of "Imagine." On one hand, I thought it was lovely and simple and clean, on the other hand, I thought it was bland. She's really cute!
Mig...I thought "Live and Let Die" was way too overdone. I thought that guy was too much of a poser...
Ty..."You Can't Always Get What You Want" is a classic and this guy did a fine version, but he looked just silly to me. He reminds me of a Wayne Brady skit.
Suzie...If you're going to do "Bohemian Rhapsody" give it some new life. Didn't happen. She's like your older sister who think she rocks but really doesn't.
JD...I couldn't stand this guy. First of all, he seems to think he's a lot hotter than he is. The fact that he had to go through some kind of catharsis with Elvis is absolutely dorky to me. I thought he was totally cheesy in his performance. "Suspicious Minds." Bleh.
Marty did "Wish You Were Here." This was a really good performance. His vocals were very good. He looked great. He reminded me of the guy from Radiohead. This, to me, was the best performance of the night.
On elimination night, I thought NO ONE did a great rendition of INXS's songs. Ty tried to bring up the race thing, but that totally wasn't it. It was a Ty thing. Ty is not INXS. He's a star in his own right, separately.
I suppose I think of this as being a competition between Jordis and Marty, but I've only seen these most recent episodes.
I used to be a big fan of INXS. In fact, "Never Tear Us Apart" was the first song at our wedding reception. I was deeply saddened when I heard Michael Hutchins died. Part of me thinks this show is awful, but part of me really loves talent competitions.
It'll be fun now to go and read your posts to see who's opinions match and don't match!

Hey, where'd everybody go? I finally get into the groove and there's no more posting!
Last night's show was really good! I liked most of the original songs, but I've definitely chosen Marty as my favorite. I liked JD better this week than last week. I've heard that Jordis is supposed to be awesome, but I haven't seen it yet. Dave Navarro's comment about her possibly losing some fire might be true... I just don't buy Suzie as lead singer of INXS, but she is talented. I don't like Mig at all. Can't help it. He reminds me of Davy Jones or David Cassidy or someone like that. His ballad was *awful*.

Last night's show was good. Marty is still my favorite by far and his original song was perfect. Can't wait for the results show tonight.

I agree that last night's show was great. However, I liked JD the best of all - especially his song Pretty Vegas. I thought MiG was boring and really didn't like his original song. I think that the one who left tonight was the right choice to go, but I love that person's voice and would buy their cd. (I'm trying not to spoil it, even though I know who left).

Top of my list for being a solo star. Breaks my heart but I knew that this performer wasn't right for the group.

I still liked Marty's best but JD's was good (wasn't it supposed to be the group song from a few weeks ago?). And it sounded like an INXS song more than any of the other original songs did.

In spite of my dislike for him, I have to give props to JD, he put on a good show Tuesday night. Loved Suzie's debut song, reminded me of early Everything but the Girl. Dave was right in comparing Jordis' song to Fiona Apple, it'sben sad watching her unravel over the past few weeks. And as much as I like Mig, thought his song was awful, very Richard Marx... fey.

I just finished watching and the thing I don't understand, is how JD could get the popular vote for the encore (the viewers chose the encore) yet still end up in the bottom 3. Anyway, I thought JD did a great job on Mystify. I've not really liked JD until now but at the same time, I haven't had a consistent favorite. Sometimes it's been MiG, sometimes Marty and sometimes Jordis. But I really do like JD's voice the best. I'm going to buy Pretty Vegas, regardless of who his band ends up being.

Since I came late to this show, I'm not very attached to anyone, so the one who got eliminated this time didn't break my heart.
JD and Suzie both did a great job with their INXS songs.

You guys all excited? Tomorrow is the finale with MiG, Marty and JD battling it out. This is the way reality shows should end - with the best of the bunch (imho). For the record, I'm rooting for JD.

We still haven't had a chance to watch last week's performances but I already knew Suzie was out.
And from my side, we'll be routing for Marty.

Scott, you must watch last week's show. It was one of the best so far.
I like Marty as well and think he has loads of talent. But he prefers a style of music that I personally don't care for very much. I'm just too old for really loud music and have never enjoyed grunge. To tell the truth, it was about the time that punk came in that I stopped really keeping current with popular music. That said, I really like Marty when he slows down and actually sings. On the whole though, I find JD much more melodic and could listen to him for a long time.
MiG is ok, but I tend to think of him as Rockstar lite.

I'm not watching this thing regularly but I did see the "songwriting" sequences. It was kind of interesting to see Andrew Farriss size up his potential writing partners.

I just see JD as clashing with the band too much. His ego is bigger than theirs and they've been in the business for nearly 30 years.
Not to say I don't like his performances. His original is great and I'd be first in line to buy it. And as I've said before it was the only original that sounded like an INXS song.
But I'm just now getting ready to hear his rendition of Pink Floyd's 'Money'. He better do good. You butcher Floyd and, in my book, you clean toilets the rest of your life.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
JD didn't butcher Money. I thought he was pretty good. Whaddidya think?
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Pretty good. Not as good as Marty's "Wish You Were Here" but pretty good.
And the more I hear "Pretty Vegas" the more I want a studio single. If he wins INXS needs to make that their first release.

JD won, hooray, 3 albums later he goes solo.

I predict JD throws a hissy-fit and they don't even make it through the world tour.......

This whole thing is weird to me. I love INXS, but I feel like their band is done. When they lost Michael, INXS was over. I dunno. I guess the rest of the band really wanted to stick together. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in their position. I suppose having a new singer could work out. I wish them the best. JD is very entertaining, but I fear he'll never recover from "new kid" status.
I only got to see a few episodes of this show, but it was great fun! I liked Marty but did not like Mig. Weird that such different types could make it so far.
Brooke said that there'd be another season of this show. What band will the winner be in? A new band? Weird.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I wondered the same thing Dean. Does JD only get "A Year at the Top" (hats off to those who remember that one) or is there a new band in the wings? The site just says that Mark Burnett Productions is considering another season of Rock Star. Maybe they are just getting ready in case their CD sales are good enough to greenlight another season.

Wake me when they get around to Rockstar: Foghat.

Given how long it takes for a band to release a new album these days, if they're planning a new season, it's likely with a new band.

Which is why I can't understand how they announced a November release for the new INXS album. I know the band has been working on the songs but is that really enough time for a basically 'green' lead singer to lay down the tracks?
Posted by Outdoor Miner on :
When was "Rockstar" recorded? If it happened well enough in advance, maybe.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I actually thought it was live, just like American Idol.
Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :
What a great show. I can hardly wait for the second season. I doubt it can top this, though. And did you all catch that INXS invited Marty and the Lovehammers to open for them on tour?
Posted by THE LABRADORIAN on :
Apparantly the finale was taped at 10 am
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Maybe the second season can find a singer to front the House Band that played throught this season?

A lot of people would welcome that idea.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I would. They performed very well. I wonder if they regularly back up INXS or anyone else in the studio.

i wouldnt watch that sesson if that is how it turned out. I dont want to see a bunch of "nobodys" get a lead singer, they were a great house band but thats all. I know Queen already has paul rodgers but it would be awesome if they did it. or ROCKSTAR VAN HALEN
