If this was a Keith Giffen story, I'd be laughing.

from the deutsche welle story:

The residents of Hamburg have been told to avoid one of the city's lakes after a spate of mysterious explosions in the area. It seems the lake's toads have been violently and spontaneously combusting.

Hundreds of toads have met a bizarre and sinister end in recent days. According to reports from animal welfare workers and veterinarians as many as a thousand of the amphibians have perished after their bodies swelled to bursting point and their entrails were propelled for up to a meter.

By the Mordruverse! That's some pretty crazy stuff...

Funny and weird at the same time. I like how the had 'sinister end' in the article.

They figured out that all these exploding toads are a defense mechanism against the crows who were trying to eat thier livers.

Man, I can't tell you how many people have emailed me about this. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a...well, okay, I have a PHOBIA about frogs/toads. Hate 'em and always have. So you can imagine the thought of exploding frogs freaks me out a bit!

A few years ago, a co-worker left a toy frog on my desk as a joke--now that has turned into me having two shelves in my office FULL of frog related stuff that people keep giving me. As long as they are cute, fake looking frogs/toads, I'm okay. The realistic ones I can't take!

And if anyone has ever seen the movie MAGNOLIA, you can imagine how disturbed I was after that one certain scene!!! :-)

April 25 isn't the German version of April Fools, is it?

nice synchronicity, Knowjack!

i read about the tntoad story in the latest issue of Fortean times, and there were many things in Magnolia that gave a nod to Charles Fort, especially with the raining frogs.
