i've just read over at GEOFF JOHNS site, that Joss has been signed up to write and direct "Wonder Woman" !!!??? i wonder if this is true ???

does this mean he will be leaving astonishing x-men?
Posted by Star Boy on :
I think X-Men is safe, as this will prolly kick in after he's completed Serenity. He was able to work on X-Men and Serentity simultaneously, and I assume the same would go for X-Men/WW.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I thought his run on X-Men was over with issue #12? Since he wouldn't begin work on WW for a long while yet he should be fine. Unless Marvel can get him to extend his run.

KATE BECKINSALE IS WONDER WOMAN!!!
Or am I just thinking out loud? Who else could pull it off?
Posted by DrakeB3004 on :
OOooooh, I like that idea. Catherine Zeta-Jones has been one of the few that I thought could do it, but Kate might be a better choice.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
CZJ is past it. Kate would be good but I think it needs a more statuesque woman in the role. There is a young Greek actress whose name escapes me that would be perfect. But you know who we'll wind up with. Sarah Michelle Geller. She's already speaking up about wanting the role again.
Why does she always want to play characters that should be a good foot or more taller than she is?

Yah, unfortunately you're right - CZJ is a bit too long in the tooth by now. Who's this Greek actress? What has she been in?
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I wish I could remember. I have this vision of her in my mind but I can't recall her name or what I've seen her in. I know it'll come to me and it'll be a D'oh! moment.
Posted by disaster boy on :
czj is looking younger and younger all the time...but a ww 2 wouldn't work out with her schedule. not that i know her schedule but...you know, contract negotitations for ww 2 wouldn't go through or something.
famke jansen mightve been good....i think i would prefer a newcommer instead of one of "the hottest new actresses out there"

Monica Bellucci?

Monica Bellucci?
She's Italian but she would be great too. But I think the nude work she's done may disqualify her. I really think that WW needs to be someone like her, relatively unknown.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I think the Greek actress I was trying to think of is Noni Dounia. I can't pull up any of her pics at work but I'll try to post one when I get home.

Nonononononono... the only actress in the X-Men films worse than Halle Berry, and you want her to do WW?! (that said, Anna Paquin was the only good actress in a big role they got. They did a better job casting the guys...)
Posted by disaster boy on :
i liked famke as that femme fetale in the bond movie she did..but that was years ago.
what you didn't like halle berry's fake accent in x-men 1...and not x2?

thought i'd bump this thread up some but my pick for Wonder Woman is this FINE looking actress who plays Chloe on "Days of our lives, her name is Nadia Bjorlin and well,...look for yourselves:
i think she could pull it off???
Posted by knowjack on :
Monica Bellucci would have been perfect...10 years ago. WW really needs to be played by someone in her early to mid 20's.
Nadia Bjorlin could be a good choice. How tall is she? She may have the connections for the part--isn't she dating Bruce Willis?
I read on tvguide.com last week that Whedon was looking at either Jessica Biel or KIM BASINGER! Jessica maybe with dyed hair would be okay, but Kim? I'm hoping that's just a weird rumor. My problem with Biel is that WW is portrayed as having more of a "meditarranean" look in the comics--the movie peeps should stick with that.
Posted by lancesrealm on :
I could live with Jessica Biel - I think she is quite an underrated actress, as well as being incredibly hot. I think Basinger might work for Hyppolyta. Do we have confirmation that Whedon will be involved with this project?
Posted by DrakeB3004 on :
Basinger or Daryl Hannah would probably work really well as Hyppolyta.
I really can't picture anyone that could pull off Wonder Woman right now. The combination of beauty and gravitas is hard to come by.

Wow! Somebody cloned Carmen Electra! When do I get my copy?
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Here's another so we can discuss our picks since Joss is now officially writing/directing.
Posted by Reboot on :
Unknown, without a doubt of a shadow ( ). You need someone:
a) Tall, and in reasonably defined physical shape (No female bodybuilders, but no SMGs either. WW can't be a "girl next door" type). b) Female-handsome (and, no, I don't mean beautiful. Again, need the sense of power, not beauty here. Not ugly though either of course ) c) Preferably with a Greek-Mediterranean look to her. d) Good actress (duh )
Oh, and the film needs to be nothing like the TV Show. This needs to be to the TV series what the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton Batman movie was to the Adam West series.

Wonder Woman should, nay MUST be played by Indian actress Aishwarya Rai (former Miss World and currently starring in Bride and Prejudice).
Lynda Carter was good for the 1970s but in my humble "man of 2005" opinion, nothing could be worse than a caucasian american playing Wonder Woman.
Posted by knowjack on :
Aishwarya Rai isn't a bad choice. In some of those pictures, I can really see WW, but in some shots, I'm not sure.
How tall is she? I've also never heard her speak...what's her voice like?
Posted by DrakeB3004 on :
How do people feel about the sanctity of WW's costume? It could be a big hurdle in terms of making it a believable character. Would you be ok with a modified version that made more "sense" (perhaps something more warrior-like) or would it seem as wrong to you to change her outfit as much as it would Superman's?
I could do with some modifications, as long as they don't stray too far.
Posted by knowjack on :
I'd be okay with some "modifications" but I strongly think they should keep it pretty much the way it is in the comics.
I would like to see the breastplate more in line with the way Alex Ross does it.
Posted by knowjack on :
According to the new Entertainment Weekly, Whedon says WW "will not, repeat NOT be wearing star spangled panties"---so it looks like he's NOT going with the traditional WW costume. Ugh.

Maybe you'll like the one they come up with better? (Waiting in feeble hope... )

Honestly? I'm glad. It works with lines on paper, but it would never work on screen. And, hell, it's a stretch to explain why she's dressed like a US flag in the first place. Use Donna's first original costume, the red one with with white & black stars, as a template to work from, or go with something completely new.

If wer're considering beauty queens for the role of Wonder Woman, consider this former Miss Universe, Amelia Vega. She's a true amazon, way over 6 feet tall and looks the part. However, I have no idea if she can act.

I liked the explanation they gave for Wonder Woman's suit in that Ultimate DC special they did in Wizard. Something along the lines that the Amazons planned to send an emissary to investigate the most powerful nation of Man's World, and decided to dress their ambassador in the iconography of the country she'd be sent to... A kind of subliminal (well, liminal, really ) "How can you not trust me when I wear your colours?" sort of deal...

In Bride and Prejudice she spoke with a British accent with a slightly exotic twang (if that makes sense). I think Wonder Woman definitely needs a non-american accent of some sort.

I've seen that explanation elsewhere and I think they should give her something like it at one point in the film when she's being more "showy" or ceremonial (although the star-spangled skirt might be more appropriate during diplomatic occassions).

CBR reports on Joss Whedon from Wizard World: "Hmm, where will I find a dark haired beauty?" To his left, curvy, raven haired actress Morena Baccarin stared off innocently."
For non-Firefly fans, this is Morena:

Monica Belluci does things to my body chemistry. She may be the hottest women IMO...ever.
Um anyways she would be great to add that serious depth/drama a Wonder Woman will need.
I say this hit this with lots of classic greek cheesiness much like Troy! A touch of Xena. Give her a nice shiny armor not panties and a swimsuit top.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Hate to say it, but this could be for the best, depending on who replaces him.

Well contracts have been drawn up for Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland to write the new script. Their currant version is a 1940's piece that WB and Silver, I've heard, do not want to do. WB says a director will be announced before the end of the month.
In other news Shawn Levy has taken David Goyer's place on The Flash. Levy is best known for his comedies which does not, IMO, bode well for this film

It looks like no Wonder Woman Movie, but a Wonder Woman TV show.
