Since March 2002 I've been watching this website at City Of Heroes .
Basically its an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) based around super-heroes.
As a long time Legionnaires fan, this is like a dream come true for me. I designed my character, his powers, his look, his name, his background, even his battlecry and I get to Role-Play as a Legionnaire!
If anyone else is a member or if anyone wants to join, drop me a line or find me on the "Freedom" server under the name ION Prime

This looks like it could be lots of fun, particularly if we put together an LMBP team. Just think Cobalt Blue, GreyBird, Speelbinder, Fat Cramer, IronRat, (and little ol' Varalent) etc as a real team battling evil in the City of Heroes!!!!

Would have been fun if it didn't cost so much per month I can't imagine many of us here willing to subscribe at $30/month

My hubby and I got to do the last week of the beta, though I didn't get to do anything until the final night. So there I am, fresh off the character generator, and I'm fighting an alien invasion. I'm also dying every 10 seconds or so.
But it was fun, so we're going to give it a try. I don't remember which server we saved my character, Chillflare, on, though I imagine I'll be able to create him on the Freedom server, too. We were hopping on to each one at the last minute since you only got to save one character each.

It is $14.99 a month and you get one free month when you buy the software. Plus, if you purchase the software through Amazon and buy a 2 month subscription card, you get 50% off the card. So you can play for 3 months for 15 bucks (+ the price of the software). There is a glitch not allowing the certificate for the 50% off to work right now but as soon as Amazon gets it worked out I just may buy the game and try it out for 3 months.

Awe, I kinda want to play but that's a high monthly fee. I already have Netflix that I don't take advantage - having to pay more moolah to save the world on a monthly basis?!? gah!

It looks fantastic, but my system is nowhere near strong enough to handle online roleplaying. Never mind that I really don't have the time to get the most out of the investment.

So far I've just set up shop on Virtue and Victory. I forgot to double check this thread before I started getting into it. My main character's name is Chillflare (ice and fire powers -- Freezerburn was taken in "Wild Guard" ), but I think I'll play with the character generator some more this weekend. It's fun!

I spent a good chunk of time on their website looking at the sample characters and some of the listed powers and, yes, it looks like it's fairly well thought out. Especially costume design.

I'd love to join Varalent et al., but I don't think Windows 98 and a mere* 366 MHz Celeron processor can handle it, and I don't think my wallet can handle anywhere near $30 a month.
It's entirely intriguing, though. I would imagine that the virtual venue is designed to bring in many people who are not normal RPG fanatics. (I would qualify on that score.) It's being marketed all over the place. Not having to imagine or HeroMachine an outfit is also a plus. _____ * I started out on a CP/M box with an 8 MHz processor -- yes, 8 -- and 64 KB of memory, two 160KB floppy drives, and no hard drives, so yes, you whippersnappers, the need for that "mere" is highly amusing to me

Consider me hooked. Been playing since I loaded it yesterday. Just hit the 7th level. And I'm on the Triumph server if any of you want to join up. I'll post a pic below of my character. But I have to share a story about his name.
I had decided for my first to go with a Lightning Lad like character but more dark in appearance. His name was already set, based on an RPG Garth I play in a Smallville (TV) setting. Gar Randall. So when it came time to figure out a hero name I couldn't think of a one.
Then I remembered that Odin had a staff or something that was the embodiment of lightning. So I looked it up and it was called Gungnir. Cool and unusual. Then I spotted something at the end of the entry in Wickpedia that made me laugh. The rune name for Gungnir is Gar. Not making this up. I figured it was fate.
