This from Comics2Film:

'Superman' casting - the new wave of rumors begins - "Third Watch" man Eddie Cibrian, "Passions" actor Christopher Douglas and "Gilmore Girls" lead Lauren Graham are rumoured to be in talks with Bryan Singer for roles in 'Superman' - Fan Feed - 08.03.04

Who do you prefer?

Eddie Cibrian

 -

or Christopher Douglas

Of the two? Cibrian. Caroline used to watch Passions and I really don't like Douglas. Don't think he can act his way out of a Soap.

BTW, here's a pic of Cibrian that should work.

I prefer Lauren Graham. She can butch it up with the best of 'em.

Dean Cain.

Seriously, neither of them look a thing like Superman. They are too little. Their faces are too soft, their chins too pointed.

Lauren is a hottie as anyone who saw Bad Santa can attest to. But I don't buy her as anyone in the Superman mythos, especially Lois. I wonder who she is testing for.

I don't think they'll find anybody who looks perfect for the role of Supes. Too iconic a character. They'll be better served by finding the best actor who is close enough.

Posted by matlock on :

That Cibrian guy seems awfully squinty for someone with x-ray vision.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I agree with Miner. No one is going to look just like him IMO (Christopher Reeves doing so was nothing short of astonishing), so I'd hire the best actor possible to pull it off.

This from todays Comics2Film-

4th August 2004 - Singer offers Welling Superman - but will he accept?!?

With the search for Superman stepping up S-V have heard that Bryan Singer has offered the role of Superman to Tom Welling! This will please many fans as he is BY FAR the most requested for the role (I have the emails to prove it!) and whether you like it or not he is the fan-favourite for the role and the subject of endless debates in Superforums all over the net.

Before you start getting too excited (or angry) bear in mind that Welling has shown a reluctancy towards playing SuperMAN and from what we hear from our source that is still the case and it is unlikely that he will accept. With Singer and the Donners on board and rumours of Christopher Reeve being involved Welling MIGHT change his mind but we haven't heard anything to indicate that is the case.

The offer is on the table and we believe it is a two picture deal. With Singer wanting to get his Superman soon he wants an answer within the next 2 - 3 weeks. Singer has already had meetings with other actors to discuss the role with Eddie Cibrian (Third Watch) and Christopher Douglas (Passions) being mentioned but has only offered the role to Welling.

Wow. Does this mean Michael Rosenbaum will play Lex?

I'm glad they've offered Welling the role, even though I've never really seen an episode of Smallville, just because I know so many people have been clamoring for that to happen.

As long as SOMEONE is happy, I always say. It would probably help if that someone was the majority, though. [Smile]

And that whoever is slated to play Lois Lane in the upcoming season will play Lois in the movie as well?

It would just seem odd to have Welling as Clark/Superman, and different actors as the other characters...

Why not the guy that played Superboy in the live-action series? Uhm... *searches memory for name* Gerard Christopher! He has a good face.

Although I don't think you could get the Lois Lane from that series for a movie, nor do I want to be sitting in a theatre having Kindred: The Embraced flashbacks while I'm watching Lois and my brain screams "Watch out, Kal! She's a vampire!! Can't you hear her heart's not beating?! ARRGH!!!"

Are you talking about Stacy Haduik (or did she play Lana?)? Why wouldn't she be available? I don't think she's had anything going on since "SeaQuest"

not sure i'd like either of the two guy's mentioned !!! i remember EDDIE CIBRIAN from that soap "Sunset Beach" [ which was so [LOL] ]

and with regards to BYRAN SINGER wanting TOM WELLING, that would be cool !!!

but would the film grow out of "SMALLVILLE" ending ??? if so .... we still need 2 more seasons of the show, at least IMO !!!

it could start at the "end" of season 5 !!??

and would it continue, with the show's "origin" of Kal/Clark !!??

if it didn't, i wouldn't wanna see TOM in the part, then [ it would just seem stange, for him to have been on the show, all that time, and then for the film to have a totally different story !!! ]

btw .... how many films, have come from TV shows, and that have retained the original TV cast ???

i can only really think of the "Star Trek" films, and "Twin Peaks" .....

Matthew.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

X-Files as well (I hear they might be doing another X-Files film).

Then there's "Serenity" with the cast of "Firefly"

Monty Python made the jump. But I don't know if their jump was from television to movies, or movies to television.

And as for a Superman, how about me?
Somehow, I accidentally got the spit-curl this morning. [Big Grin]

Well, Beagz, you're still in the running. The Tom Welling news was bogus, and apparently there's a general casting call for an unknown to play Superman. Here's the blurb care of Ain't It Cool News:

Possible Superman Movie Casting Call
Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News
Monday, August 9, 2004

Ain't-It-Cool-News has what looks to be a casting call for the title role in Warner Bros.' Superman. Here's a clip...

Pat Moran + Associates Casting (Emmy Award winner for HOMICIDE: Life on the Street) is part of a nation-wide search for an actor to portray Clark Kent / Superman in a new feature film for Warner Brothers.

The description of the role is: Late 20's, tall, handsome, chiseled good looks. Athletic. Strong character. All American. Confident, yet awkward. Faster than a speeding bullet.

The film will be directed by Bryan Singer (X-MEN, USUAL SUSPECTS) and produced by Jon Peters & Gilbert Adler. No other cast has been announced yet.

RATS!!!!!!!!!!
I'm mid 30's. :-(

LOL!!!!! Maybe I should give it a shot, anyway. ;-)

The real kicker for this role?
Hugh Jackman. [Cool]

The lastest rumour is that Bryan Singer wants Brandon Routh for Superman. (Comics2Film) I found these pictures. What do you think?

And apparently it is confirmed that Brandon Routh has been cast as Superman. Great choice. The story picks up from the end of Chris Reeves' Superman II. Supe's has been gone for 6 years but it now back.

Also, Singer says he is going to use the Williams score from the Reeve's films.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I really don't care for Routh. In the few television shows I've seen him in he's left me very unimpressed. When the news of his casting first broke last weekend (Latino Film News I think) I was just thinking it rumour.

But Singer is a good judge of actors. If it is true I'll trust his judgement.

i've seen somewhere [ ?? ] that Misha Barton from "The O.C." is in the running for Lois Lane, now .....

her and Evangeline Lilly from Lost...

I vote Evie, I think she is way hotter and a better actress.

Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :

Yeah, I agree Evangeline Lilly would be a great Lois Lane. She's beautiful but strong, as Lois should be.

I do wish they wouldn't ignore that last two Reeves movies. Not that there was anything fantastic about them but I feel they shouldn't just be tossed aside. We don't need to bring back Richard Pryor or Muriel Hemingway, nothing like that but still the Nuclear Man did have his moments.
"Kill Superman."...did he have any other lines?

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Did anyone else hear about this? I read it in "Lying in the Gutters" over at comicbookresources.com:

quote:
A few months ago, when I reported on the Millar/Knowles challenge and named it as, actually, a battle between Warner Brothers and Bryan Singer respectively, I also reported a rumour about the criteria for Bryan. That the actor be gay or closeted gay (and would come out during the promotion for the movie). That this would mirror themes within the movie, the concept of living two different lives, giving the project a meta-textuality. That Bryan would give young, scared, alone gay people a hero, an icon, a strong mainstream role model of their own.

Well since our other Superman movie thread seems to have disappeared (even when I search it the link goes to a totally different thread) I'll post the latest news here.

Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively. Although it might be more of a movie even if they switched roles. This movie still continues to underwhelm me.

More casting news....

Hugh Laurie-from the Fox series House that Singer directed)- as Perry White

and Cyclops himself James Mardsen as Richard White, Lois Lane's love interest.

The articled stated that the two characters are related but no clue how they are related.

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

What? Lois' love interest is someone she's related to? What is this, Appalachian Elseworld's Superman??

Sorry I wasn't more clear... Perry White and Richard White would be related.... [Smile]

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Actually Hugh Laurie has announced, via Entertainment Weekly, that he will not be playing Perry White in the movie. Due to the popularity of his new series House (the only medical drama I watch) the cast is being brought back in for an early start to the next season. He'll be filming House through out the time he was to be filming Superman.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

And Laurie's replacement? Frank Langella. This is the most eclectic cast I have seen for a comic book movie. Singer either has an Istar/Heaven's Gate on his hands on the beginning of the next big franchise.

If MovieWeb is to be believed, this is the teaser poster for the movie.

I still see more the image of Dracula or someone suave instead of a white-collar Perry White when I think of Langella. If he's chomping on a cigar then he has a snifter of brandy in one hand. But I will admit he does have more the stature and presence than Laurie would have had, no slight against Hugh. He was always one of my favorite Brit comedians who has been turning in a damn good dramatic role in House.

Posted by Outdoor Miner on :

Bummer that Laurie won't be involved, but good news that House is doing so well. One of the few shows I'm bothering to watch right now.

Guess who will play Clark's father in flashback sequences? Hugh Jackman. [Confused]

I really can't see now how this film is supposed to be a sequel to Superman II.

Posted by matlock on :

So if Hugh Jackman's taking a role in this, does that mean the X-3 embargo on Singer loyalists will not be enforced after all? Wasn't there scuttlebutt that James Marsden would not reprise Cyclops due to his participation in the Superman movie?

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Marsden is supposed to be more of a main character and Jackman will just be used in flashbacks. He's filming now supposedly so he'll be finished before X3 starts.

Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :

Comics2Film and SuperHero Hype say that Jackman is not in Superman Returns. Jacklman has just been hanging around Singer because they're "friends." Now thats a rumor I find a little more intriguing. [Big Grin]
