I admit, as a pop culture vulture I'm a sucker for these things. Top 10 movies, videos, songs, tv shows, news stories etc... all those year-end wrap-up shows. Are there any lists you guys look forward to seeing? Want to make some of your own? I'll try to come up with a few by year's end.
(maybe we'll even have a top 10 "top 10 lists" [Wink] )

Well I go for the Top 10 movies and news stories usually. Maybe TV shows too. But today's music and videos usually don't cover my tastes when it comes to Top 10s. But maybe Evanescence will be on that list this year.

I used to love music lists, but the current music trends have fallen out of favor with me, as well.

I enjoy David Letterman's Top 10s and other sardonic lists. But otherwise, I think top 10s are accorded undue importance in pop culture. A top 10 list is just someone's opinion of what we all should find important. Many items and events don't readily fall into such an easy hierarchy for me.

(But that won't prevent me from coming up with my own such list, if the itch needs to be scratched. [Wink] )

I often disagree vehemently with the top 10 year-end lists I see in various publications (particularly Entertainment Weekly and Time).

Plus, this year, I'm not sure that I saw many more than 10 movies, and I'm sure I read far fewer than 10 (non-comic) books... [Embarrassed]

I can't put them in order, but I do like top ten lists. My top ten comics of the last year:

Daredevil
Catwoman
Gotham Central
Negation
Fables
Alias
JSA
Flash
Amazing Spider-man
Supreme Power

and if I could do a Top 11-20 comics [Wink] , here would be the next ten that I thought were the best besides the previous ten:

1602
JLA/Avengers
Batman
Ultimate Spider-man
Hawkman
Avengers
New Mutants
Incredible Hulk (which suddenly got very good)
Y: the Last Man
Sojourn

I usually like a comic for the story above anything else, but occasionally the art will be SO good in a comic that it's just as enjoyable as a great story. This is the case for Batman, JLA/Avengers and Sojourn, which all had great stories, but such good art that I had to include them in this secondary top ten!

And Sadly, the Legion does not fit in here. If this were last year, it would have been my favorite comic. But since the beginning of Dream Crime, it has suddenly slipped down to probably #21. The Legion and Spiderman are my all-time favorite comic book heroes, so I always have a soft spot for them no matter how bad they are, but Legion just doesn't crack the top twenty this year. Since the last arc before Dream Crime, it has slowly been a bit less enjoyable. Hopefully things can pick up again, have more characterization, etc.

I don't even think I can name ten songs that came out this year that I liked enough to include in a top ten list! Let's see:

"Boys of Summer" the Ataris
"Why Don't You and I" Santanna and Chad Kroeger from Nickelback (not the kid from the Calling)
"Hey Ya" Outkast
"In da Club" by 50 Cent when it first came out (c'mon, it WAS pretty catchy)
"Seven Nation Army" by White Stripes
"Swing, Swing" All-American Rejects
"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" Good Charlotte (like the 50 Cent song, I just couldn't help liking it)

...and damn, I can't think of anymore that I really liked. I know they'll come to me later, so I'll edit them in!

Best Video of the new Millenium though, including all of this years: "Dirrrty" by Christina Aguilera! I've never had the same reaction before or since like I did for this one [Wink] ...
