It's true (according to Yahoo news, at least)! [ElasticLad] [Eek!]

Britney Spears Reportedly Weds in Vegas

LAS VEGAS - Pop star Britney Spears (news) marched down the aisle in Las Vegas on Saturday, marrying a childhood friend from Louisiana, according to news reports.

The 22-year-old diva married Jason Allen Alexander early Saturday at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip, according to People.com, the online arm of the Time Warner publication. He is from Kentwood, La., it said.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on its Web site that Spears and Alexander, 22, were granted a marriage license, citing an affidavit of Application for Marriage License filed Jan. 3.

Calls to Spears' representatives were not immediately returned.

The bride wore jeans and baseball cap, according to People.com, and had a hotel bellman walk her down the aisle.

People.com reported that Spears and Alexander journeyed to the Little White Wedding Chapel after a stop at the Ghostbar, a club in the Palms Casino Hotel. It reported that the chapel staff told the couple that they couldn't get married without a license, so they were reportedly taken by the limo to the Clark County Marriage Bureau office in the downtown Las Vegas courthouse. They applied for and were granted the marriage license, then driven back to the chapel, where they were married.

Spears released her fourth album "In the Zone" in November. It debuted at the top of the album charts. She begins a concert tour March 2 in San Diego.

I read elsewhere (maybe E!Online) that the whole thing was a "joke that went too far" and she plans to have the marriage annulled. Now, I'm sorry, but I think the time to have stopped the joke might have been someteime before saying "I do".

I swear, this girl impresses me less and less all the time.

{[...] The bride wore jeans and baseball cap, according to People.com, and had a hotel bellman walk her down the aisle. }

Just when you think that the devaluation and dismissal of the importance of marriage has slowed its pace, even a little bit ... you get an item like this to prove that all is as it should be in the world. Gives you a warm feeling right, oh, there in the solar plexus, eh?

It's only natural that these crazy het kids should have their whims indulged, especially under the influence of alcohol, while committed decades-long non-het couples get the contempt they "deserve" at the marriage license bureau. After all, "the family" must be defended, right?

Anyway, he's too bald for her. And they should have had KFC cater the reception, after all, with how he shills for 'em.

... Oh. Never mind!

I too find this a little sickening.

How can this be "a joke that went too far"?

There's been rumours that Britney is working on a reality show or a documentary. I would hope that is true and this scenario is linked to it somehow.

But I doubt it.

The sad thing is that I kinda liked Britney when she first showed up. Her first couple of hits weren't bad, and I found her image to be refreshing.

Unfortunately, the newness wore off quickly. With her second album, it became obvious to me that she wasn't going to grow as an artist. Her songs all sounded the same, and she decided to make her image more "adult". Unfortunately, the only way she knew how to be more adult was to start looking slutty. The sad thing is that she still tried to act like the little girl role model she started out as.

Nowadays she seems to have decided not to be a role model anymore, even though her young fans still look to her for inspiration. Unable to find a way to evolve like HER role model, Madonna, Britney seems to have decided the best bet is to try to shock her fans as Madonna did. Hence the kiss, and now probably the marriage.

The unfortunate thing for Britney is that there really is only one Madonna, and Brit just isn't it.

I was kinda lukewarm to her early hits "Hit Me..." and "Oops!". I did like her softer stuff like "Sometimes" and "Lucky" quite a bit.

It was the riveting "I'm A Slave 4 U" that made me sit up and take notice. Her latest release with Madonna is okay.

Cru, I see it kinda opposite-- Madonna's glommed onto Britney.

Madonna's American Life cd was a flop-- and not just by "old-Madonna" standards. Last I heard, it hadn't even gone platinum.

I dunno... right now I'm not caring much for either one of them...

I'm not big on Britney or Madonna, especially Madonna. I do like Christina though [Wink] . The only things Britney has ever done that I liked were two videos she did (one with Austin Powers, the other with the snake).

Wouldn't it be funnier if the Jason Alexander was the one from Seinfeld and not some guy from her hometown [Wink] ?

I dunno about Alexander (either version), but Ms. Spears apparently wants the Clark County court to master this particular domain. Ah, the eternal marriage bond, so soon up in smoke...

=====

JANUARY 5--After hours of marital bliss, Britney Spears moved today to legally annul her romantic Saturday morning nuptials at Las Vegas's Little White Wedding Chapel. This morning, Spears, 22, filed the below annulment complaint with the Clark County District Court in a bid to wipe away her blessed, though brief, union to Jason Allen Alexander, a childhood pal from her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana. In her complaint, Spears notes that her marriage should be dissolved because she "lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to marriage because before entering into the marriage the Plaintiff and Defendant did not know each others likes and dislikes, each others desires to have or not have children, and each others desires as to State of residency." It's now up to a Nevada judge to sign off on the annulment request so that Spears and Alexander can return to market. (5 pages)

According to E!Online, Britney's last fling was with one of her backup dancers, who decided to break things off in November to return to his pregnant wife.

She's just so wacky [Smile]

I think the annulment should be denied. Just to teach her that you can't screw around like that and just take it back. Life doesn't work that way.
