Why should the Legion board be the only one with threads celebrating minor characters?

Long live Lyssa!

Posted by Stealth on :

She even has her own Wikipedia entry!

Gary, could you PLEEEEEEASE post some comic book pages with Lyssa Drak in this thread? Thanks.

LYSSA!!!!!!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Gotta love her!!! Wheeeee~

We definitely need more stories with Lyssa Drak, including a Lydea Mallor-Lyssa Drak battle. I wonder if Lydea's still around somewhere in the DCU.

Posted by Caliente on :

Lydea should be around, I think! She didn't die like her mum or anything as far as I know.

Man. That battle would ROCK!! Stadium rock... of space!! [Big Grin] Let's start the petition now!!

Sweet!
I like those Ordway pages they almost have a Gil Kane look.

So she's Talokian and she can see into Shadow but is she a Shadow caster? She's certainly scary enough, I can see why you guys like her. She has some serious potential to become one of those really really frightening bad guys we love to loathe.

Thanks for all those pages, Nighty!

Lyssa Drak is the reference librarian from Hell. DC seems to have a thing for big books and storytellers - Cain, the Crime Bible, the Book of Parallax - maybe there are others. It's a good framing device and Lyssa is more than just the storyteller.

I could do without the pointy teeth, but that's a minor consideration. Reis upped the ante with the book's chain becoming a weapon itself.

She sees into the darkness of the soul. I wish that had been developed as a power for Tasmia, to give her more of a Jungian cast.

I just wish she didn't look so much like 70s Tasmia when she's not grinning evilly.

Posted by Caliente on :

Yeah, the pointy teeth and Tasmia-esque costume are a bit much. But, man, she is a creepy chickita. I love it. [Big Grin] Especially the chain weapons.

Also, thanks so much, Gary, for posting the pages!! You are a prince. [Love]

You have to wonder what it is about Talokian women in the DCU. They are pretty tough, bordering on savage, to varying degrees. Lyssa is at the far end of the spectrum, but Lydea was certainly someone to avoid - even though that was the result of mind tampering, I wonder if there was just something primal in her that was triggered. Lyrissa was tough enough to merit Vril's respect. Various versions of Shadow Lass, particularly Umbra, were more barbarian than your average legionnaire and there was also Lady Memory.

Perhaps there's something in the DC editorial handbook that says if you want a wild woman, make her Talokian. Maybe it's the blue skin, eliciting memories of Celtic warriors.

We haven't seen much of the men - one Starman and one legionnaire wannabe. It seems like a perfect set up for a matriarchal society in the Talok system.

She makes a great Sinestro Corp support piece in Heroclix.

Updated my previous post with the Blackest Night #0 page that I've had since last week, but keep forgetting to post.

In the latest issue of GLC, one of the Guardians imprisons Lyssa in the Book. She better not be stuck in there too long. [Mad]

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

But now, she's a character in a book.

Posted by Caliente on :

Wow, in the book? Weeeird...

I hope it's not permanent, as well, tho.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

But if she's no longer in the book, does that mean the writers decided to kill her off?

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

If Thursday Next could pop in and out of books, Lyssa Drak may find a way to escape.

Posted by Pov on :

If Lyssa were to assume control of the yellow lantern, would her ringbearers become the All-New Drak Pack?!? [Hmmm?]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I have a feeling that if Lyssa is stuck in the book, that she'll end up playing an important role in Blackest Night later on, because I think the Book(s) will somehow become important. I predict Hal will free her and then need her help at one point.

Query: Has Lyssa shown to have any Talokian powers?

Posted by Candle on :

Wow, fun trip!

DID she play any part in Blackest Night?

Welcome to the party, Shady.

I gave up on Blackest Night after the first issue, and on the Green Lantern franchise at the same time, but I checked her Wikipedia entry recently for any updates. Apparently she's still inside the book.

Can anyone please confirm her current status?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I think that's it but I'm not sure. I suspect she'll show back up in GL, GLC or EW sometime in the future.

She never showed up again in Blackest Night I don't think. (I could be wrong--it became a serious snooze fest in the middle and I might have dozed off).
