So, EDE told me about the new Lone Ranger comic, which looks pretty groovy, and I'm thinking about picking that up.
Pov & Co. introduced me to Liberty Meadows not too long ago and I try to grab an issue here and there.
The Goon by Dark Horse has been consistently awesome for years, and has started coming out again.
Scott will shortly (most likely) tell us how awesome Walking Dead is...
So, what else is out there? I'm talking right now, on the racks this week and the next (2) - (3) months?

I still think Hunter Killer is among the best of what's out there. Tranquility is also extremely good. And the Kirby-esq Galactic Bounty Hunters mini is loads of fun.

Oops! I'm buying all those I mentioned so I probably shouldn't have posted them

So you think you know me that well huh?
Yes, I would say the Walking Dead is still a shoe-in. Still my favorite book out there. But there are a couple of others.
Anita Blake Vampire Hunter. Was being done by Dabel Bros. but now Marvel is involved. Still a Dabel imprint thought I think and a great book.
Highlander is good whether you preferred the television series or the movie.
Battlestar Galactica isn't too shabby either.
But I've fallen into the same trap Vee did. I buy all these titles.

Actually I've just realized that Cobie has used this thread to con everyone into doing all the research for him so that he knows exactly what to pick up when he goes to his CBS next week

Guess I'll have to start calling Cobie Baldric instead.

(Does that mean Cobie has an unusually large turnip?)

Are you getting Mouse Guard?
If not, get Mouse Guard.

P.S.238 just keeps getting better. And Aaron Williams has announced plans to make more pages available for viewing on the website, so you can decide if it's your cup of tea without having to spend a lot of money. Once you fall in love with the series, TPBs are available to help you catch up.
Alas for Liberty Meadows! Marvel is evidently keeping Frank Cho too busy to spend any time on other projects. AFAIK, no new issue has been solicited since the very late #37 was finally released.

Death Note - a manga series I'm hooked on. It's up to volume 9 so far. A Death Note is a notebook from the Shingami realm - if you write someone's name in it, and you know their face, the person will die. One of these books comes into possession of a young man, Light Yugami, and he decides to create the perfect world by killing all the criminals. The plot is complicated, each book has lots of twists and turns. Light is a real devious villain (IMO) and an excellent illustration of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

My bud let me borrow Lone Ranger and Highlander. I still haven't read either book. He lent them to me cause I'm a fan of both characters. I gotta read them this weekend sometime.

I haven't read Highlander, but Lone Ranger has been great so far.

I have to agree with Miner. Mouse Guard's last issue comes out this month.
Ursa Minors is a great fun book. It's full of comic geekiness.

That reminds me, I haven't picked up any more Basara manga's in ages. I was really enjoying that. It's set in a postapocolyptic Japan where a young woman leads a rebellion against an evil ruler while disguised as her late twin brother.
Mouse Guard sounds fun; I'll have to look into it when it gets collected.

Shout out to Mouse Guard! I will add the following to the list:
1. Rex Libris (SLG): librarian goes on cosmic adventures to retrieve overdue books ... on a library budget (example: library can't afford a teleport directly onto a certain planet, so Rex is teleported to the planet's orbit and has to figure out how to get to the surface himself)... great supporting cast includes a talking bird intent on world domination. 2. Fallen Angel (IDW): Continuance of Peter David's DC series. 3. Castle Waiting (Fantagraphics): engagingly sweet fairy tale material, by Linda Medley 4. Wasteland (ONI): imaginative post-apocalytpic tale

You know me quite well! Alas, this is where you can get me and other LWers to possibly pick up some titles! I usually can squeeze an additional indy comic in every other week, so I'll see what happens when I go next Sunday. Lots of good suggestions going.

I should! After all, I lived in your body for 24 hours once upon a time didn't I?

Come on Cobie. Just buy the first trade of Walking Dead. Only $6.47. If you don't like it I'll reimburse you.
In fact I'll go one further. If there are four other people (five total counting Cobie) who have not yet tried this series and are willing to, I'll buy each of you the first trade. Just PM me and we'll make the arrangements. If you don't like it then you can send it back to me or donate it to your public library. If you do like it, keep it as my gift and start buying the book.

Okay, with Scott pushing like a heroin dealer, I've become hooked on The Walking Dead. It's a great book, very much a character story, not a horror comic. Check it out if you can.

Ah, the first of my Walking Dead Army!
The offer above still stands. You want to read the first trade but aren't sure, I'll buy it. First five takers. CJ actually purchased his own copy and look at him now. Think what a free copy could do for you.

Why didn't you say Kirkman was writing, Scott?? I totally dig his Marvel stuff!! Still, I'm running a tight ship right now what with the start of the quarter and every dollar's counting 'til March.
Yours is a super nice offer but I don't feel right. Even if it isn't much, it's still something. Remind me in a couple of months and I'll see if the ol' pocketbook is a bit more giving. You'll get your army yet, I'm sure!

I read Highlander 1 and 2. I like them very much. Very old school infact it takes place in the mid 80s. I have issue #0 and #3 to read yet.
I will read Lone Ranger soon.

Mouse Guard finished up this week. There's a trade due out in the fall, just before a new mini starts up. I highly recommend everyone add it to their lists. And read it with your kids!

I've really been enjoying the Lone Ranger book. I love that they are starting with his origin... how he got his horse, and the silver bullets, and his first days getting to know Tonto, the Indian (excuse me, Native American) who saved his life. Solid story and art! Looks like Dynamite is going to put out a flip book zero issue for it (with Battlestar Galactica) on Free Comic Book Day too!

Two Walking Dead #1 trades left to go people. Any one else want to join the Legion World Zombie Army?
Posted by CJ Taylor on :
Speaking of indy comics...
With Free Comic Book Day coming up, anyone have any suggestions?
Dark Horse has a very pretty book set to debut- Umbrella Academy. This and Image's Astonishing Wolf-Man are my most wanted titles.

OK, I'm in
I'll check it out, probaby be love it, and be hooked for life! Besides, with Scott and CJ giving it their endorsement so often, it has to be pretty good!
I guess now would be a good time to get the current monthlies, while I catch up in trades.
This might come at a good time too, as I'm dropping a slew of Marvel titles and DC is wrapping up a bunch of minis (many of which let me down so much I won't be picking up many of their new minis).
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I'll toss a copy into the ever growing package.
Uhm, yeah. That sounded different in my head.
