Okay, I was on the fence about Billy Tucci being lined up to draw the Daughters spinoff H4H, but this looks gooooooood....! [Drool]

Newsarama has an interview and some previews of Tucci's H4H stuff here.

It does.....man can draw some purty women.

I just hope they don't kill Danny (again) in Civil War.

Humbug a regular? Silver Sable? Black Cat? PLUS the Daughters?

And Gray and Palmiotti writing? I'm VERY so there.

This has the makings of being something great, like a Marvelverse Giffen/Maguire JLA, and might help soothe my ruffled feathers at losing THE THING.

Emailing the CBS now.

Did anyone here read the previous "Heroes for Hire" series? I really liked it a lot! Pascual Ferry's art was taking shape, it had Power Man and Iron Fist, plus She-Hulk, Ant-Man and the Black Knight with Jim Hammond as father figure. It was awesome - sadly, it didn't last [Frown]

How long before they have the new H4H vs. Power Man and Iron Fist? (ish #12 I guess)

The previous H4H was great. I was disappointed when they canceled it. [Frown]

I believe it was the first place we saw Cassie Lang use the growth powers she now uses as Stature in Young Avengers. And Marvel is recycling the female White Tiger idea, although it sounds like a different character from the H4H heroine.

Got this, it was kinda fun just like the Daughters of the Dragon mini before it was. Humbug is now my favorite D-list guy.

Lots of cheesecake art, so if you're not into that, you'll probably want to avoid it. Too bad its tied up with the CIvil war stuff and might suffer delays because of it.

The first ish was ok, but I'm not totally convinced yet. Orca certainly seems out of place (I thought he was a villain), but every team needs a "tank" (as Batman says in JLA#1). I do like the Civil War tie-in as it gives the book an immediate purpose and feel, but I hope it establishes its own feel soon.

Anybody reading this? I'm enjoying it as much as the DotDragon mini that preceeded it.

I read # 6... and figured out what "Victor" was long before we saw him (though I couldn't have predicted his graffiti-ed condition-- hilarious!!). I also knew the Headmen based on the kid's description of them, before they appeared. They are some of my favorite villains!

All this plus the Man-Ape and Grim Reaper? FUN!

So I dropped this awhile ago, but looking at a recent cover, I'm pretty disturbed. This cover depicts Misty, Colleen and the Black Cat in what looks to be a standard Heintai pose, which, to be honest, grosses me out.

Heintai = crazy anime porno that is usually pretty disgusting, in that it involves rape and other horrible things.

Am I waaay off base on this? I mean, Colleen's shirt is unzipped and those tentacle arms are most likely intentially there as symbols of something else.

I feel genuinely disgusted.

Palmiotti & Gray are off the title, and so am I. Sounds like I was wise to drop it. [Razz]

Not that there's anything wrong with Hentai, but keep it in La Blue Girl and Legend of the Overfiend, please. [Wink]

I picked up the most recent issue becuase it was free of Civil War mumbo jumbo and I liked the art. Can anyone tell me how Orca died?

I like the dynamic here. Palladin has always been one of my favorite C-list characters for some reason and I'm glad he's still part of the team despite his the lack of affection for him. Shang-Chi I've always thought was underdeveloped in relation to the rest of the Marvel U so seeing him here is cool. Not sure what to make of his attraction to Tarantula, but it suddenly makes her more interesting to me.

I guess it's also good news that Moonboy is still alive (despite the ending of NextWave). I wonder if we'll see some kind of explanation between the Devil Dinosaur and Moonboy we see here and the ones we saw in NextWave (though considering the tone of the latter book, I have no problem accepting that it wasn't really Devil Dinosaur we saw there)

Big Hole in the chest, IIRC

Ugggh, the first post-GrayPal issues featured the deaths of both Orca and Humbug*. This pissed me off.

If Humbug IS indeed dead, I'm gone.

*This hasn't been totally confirmed yet.

Take a look at the WWH tie-in covers and solicits.

He's not.

The only thing that really bothers me about the new direction is that everything is a bit skankified and now people are randomly hooking up. Like, I dunno if it's just me but... I don't really care one way or the other if people hook up s'long as it's (at least a little) developed and makes sense. [shrug] But I'm sticking with it for now. We'll see how long that lasts...

Humbug's transformation is kinda interesting if a little derivative. I wish the artist hadn't made him look all macho without the mask too -- there's no reason why he can't be a badass hero who doesn't have chiseled bad boy features.

What's with Shang-chi losing control? First he gets his skank on with Tarantula then he overdoes it with Palladin. I haven't been reading the book until this arc, is there a reason he's lost focus? You'd think the master of martial arts would have a little more discipline.

GrayPal's absence is definitely being felt for me.

There were a couple of fun moments, but overall I'm not liking that Orca was killed and Humbug was PERFECT as he was.

I'm still onboard for the nonce.

Tucci's stint as artist was a bit of a joke lengthwise, eh? That's annoying when an artist is announced and they only end up lasting 2-4 issues. (Willingham and Paul Smith, I'm also looking YOUR way!)

So once again, Marvel has relaunched Heroes for Hire with a somewhat different premise—this has to be one of the titles most commonly retooled completely everytime the name is used! This new relaunch is by DnA with art by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessey. I ended up passing on the last H4H series after the first few issues but thought I’d give this one a try; I generally like most of the characters that I expect to be in the series (and love Misty and Colleen) but not enough to buy the series unless it’s actually good. Considering DnA’s recent streak of wins IMO, that was enough to sample.

First off, I notice the series is a very premise-driven comic, like most DnA series. The premise, of Misty hiring various heroes for one-off items as part of a larger plan, is okay; the way it’s executed in #1 left me a little wishy washy. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it—I guess I’ll have to see how it goes. Mainly, the idea of Misty as a Marvel version of Oracle will be something I HATE if that is the way things go. Also, I like the street level superheroes but I’m not sure I like them as a team.

The sequence of Misty calling heroes and saying “Are you for hire?” got really old really fast though.

I like seeing the Falcon, the Black Widow and Moon Knight but I’m surprised the guys on the cover—notably Ghost Rider and the Punisher—don’t show up; fans of those characters who bought this would be pretty disappointed. Not having at least a few semi-recurring cast members will be a minus for me.

Something I hated: the way DnA had Black Widow muttering Russian phrases; I almost thought they were having Natasha speak with a Russian accent. No way that should be the case—her voice should always be flawless in whatever dialect she’s using. I see her a master-spy who is way too good to have an accent in any language.

What really came out of left field was the ending to issue #1, which I will not spoil. It totally caught me by surprise and in a good way because regardless of how mixed I was on everything until the last few pages, I’m now totally curious enough where I have to buy #2 to see what the *real deal* is here. It also brings back an oddball character from Marvel history who I happen to really like.

The art by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessey was okay—at times I liked it but at other times I found it a bit ugly. Yet, in those final pages I just mentioned, the ugliness kind of works on a different level, so maybe that style is appropriate? Like the series itself, I’m still on the fence but at least curious. (I disliked Brad Walker's art on GotG quite a bit; not sure if Hennessey inked him there).

#1 does contain a groovy multi-page history of “Heroes for Hire” (beginning with the original Hero for Hire himself, and then the subsequent Power Man & Iron Fist team-up comic). Thunderbolts #150 had a similar bunch of extra pages that I liked.

Anyone else pick this up?

^I'm picking up the 2nd printing of number one that comes out this week. The first printing sold out at my CBS. I'd forgotten to put it on my pull or to even look for it but would have if I'd remembered DnA were involved. Apparently the subsequent issues will be $2.99, so that is a plus as well.

I'm curious what you feelings towards it will be!

When this book was first announced, I had a feeling it would be Marvel's "Birds of Prey" with a pregnant Misty running things behind the scenes. Now I guess the pregnancy was an illusion of some sort? (Peter David did something a lot more dramatic in "X-Factor") Seems more like a writer deciding to go in a different direction to me.

The repetition of Misty calling on the heroes was clever in a "Misty as late night DJ" kinda thing, but I agree it got tired. I doubt they'll do that all the time. The surprise ending worked really well in "Thunderbolts", but that kind of device has had diminishing returns over the years. I almost think I'd prefer a more straight-up scenario and just letting the characters make it interesting rather than the "twist."

I'll give this series a shot, but it reminds me of "Secret Avengers" in terms of being so mission-based that I fear it might be too light on character.
