Not even what's contained within - I've barely had a chance to glance through it yet - but the size and, especially, the sheer weight of the thing. You could comedically flatten someone or something with it.
Anyway, looking forward to reading through it.

BEST EVER. Nothing can match the orginality, the intelligence, the humour and sheer brillance that is Calvin and Hobbes.
I always loved the snow cartoons and when Calvin is Spaceman Spiff.

Calvin and his tiger were in a world all their own, no matter what happened, they had fun. Hobbes was the perfect best friend. He was lots of fun, hehe but you couldn't always count on him to get you out of trouble.
And Watterson gets kudos for sticking to his art.

Best deal I've found on this is through Barnes & Noble online ( www.barnesandnoble.com ) -- $90 with free shipping. Amazon was $95 and didn't qualify for their free shipping because of the weight.
I'm impatiently awaiting delivery as I type this... hurry up, UPS...!

Mammoth. That's the only way I can describe it.
I knew I was expecting a 23-lb. package, but really was not prepared for the magnitude of this set. Each of the three volumes along is ridiculously hefty. I wish I had a fireplace to lie in front of reading this.
Watterson's new introduction is at turns informative and endearing. I'd heard about his reclusiveness and wondered at his lack of merchandising over the years, and this put things into perspective. I can respect his stand for the integrity of his work-- it's in stark contrast to somebody like Jim Davis, who's turned GARFIELD into an assemblyline strip and whored it into merchandising oblivion. I'd still love a Hobbes "real-world" doll, though...
Nothing new here stripwise-- I've committed the other collections to memory, practically-- but seeing them in chronological order is a revelation.

Yeah, don't you feel just so good having this. My favorite strips are the ones where Calvin asks his dad questions and his dad doesn't know the answer so he makes things up. You all know that Calvin's dad was a lawyer, right?

Things I love: the way he draws the Bully & the way he draws Hobbes when others can see Hobbes (in regular stuffed animal form).
