So after a protracted run, RISING STARS is wrapping up (give or take a mini or one-shot, possibly) with this week's issue #24.

I liked JMS's take on superpowers, his "Specials" and their place in their world. He explored alot of different avenues of how people with extraordinary abilities would actually exist in the modern world , how they might influence world politics, whether for their own agendae or the "greater good". Some interesting stuff, but while I'm sorry to see it go, I'm glad he's tying things up since he's got too many things on his plate it seems...

I really liked this in the beginning, but after nearly puking at his 'Everyone would be happy and peaceful in the Middle East if the soil was more fertile' issue, I began praying for him to just get the bloody series over.

So much promise... wasted in a watered down cousin of Watchmen or Kingdom Come. Bring on #24 so I can indulge the idiotic collector in me and see if was actually worth hanging around until the end.

And that fact that the series was delayed mostly on account of JMS scrabbling about Hollywood trying to sell the property as a feature film and secure the rights for himself doesn't really excite me either. Tell the frickin' story, and if it's good enough, they'll make a movie. Don't put the cart before the Super-Horse...

I missed the boat on this originally, but Scott sent me the first 12 issues or so electronically last year. I was meaning to read them, but then JMS' crap-tacular Gwen/Norman Osbourne story came out and I just can't bring myself to even look at his work right now. Which is too bad, 'cuz I kind of liked him as a writer. Hopefully I'll get over it sometime soon...
