Just what the title suggests, here's the place to tell about your latest purchase of comics-related STUFF... or that dream item just out of reach monetarily or temporally.
Last year, a POLARIS minibust was produced-- I still kick myself for missing out on it! It's showing up now on EBAY for prices upwards of $100-- too rich for my blood!
What are you salivating for in the coming months? Or what did you just buy that delighted or disappointed you?

I started an overexcited thread hereabouts awhile ago, with regards to the 70's Adam Warlock bust from Diamond Select I was preordering. I've had the thing for awhile now, and I'm still as thrilled with it as I was the day I opened it.
Just this past week, Gary ( ) helped me get the SA Batgirl mini-bust from DCDirect for 1/2 price! Thanks, boss!
I've got the Bowen Thanos minibust, The full-size Thanos statue, most of the animated Gotham Grrls statues (still looking for the Harley Quinn maquette at a reasonable price on eBay)... and I'm waiting for the Kitty & Lockheed bust to ship.
I preorder my stuff from DCBS-- 35% off list for the DCDirect stuff, 25%or more off most of the Marvel stuff. Check 'em out at www.dcbservice.com when yo uget a chance.
They've got the Harley Quinn marionnette at a decent price, too... better than most I've seen on eBay...

I've picked up both the minis of Phoenix/Dark Phoenix and the classic/modern Cyclops. Don't buy as much as I used to. My prized statue is the original Batman on gargoyle that came out in 1992. Now THAT was an investment. I also got into a kick a bit back and bought all (then out) mini light sabers. Now if I just had a place on my desk to display them.
I saw a solicit for DC in April for a new Batman mini that I might buy, especially with the discount from DCBS.
Still waiting on my Phoenix action figure I ordered through them that was supposed to come out in December.
And Caroline always winds up getting one of the Buffy statues when they come out. I think I've gotten her most of them to date.

I recently got a 5" version of the ATOMIC ROBOT MAN from Schylling Collector Series. It's a replica of a 1950s tin wind-up toy robot. Very clunky looking, though when it walks, it's cool to watch. There was also an 11" version, but I didn't wanna spring for that. As I said, "clunky"-- but the reason I bought it was, it's the robot I based the current version of STORMROBOT on! (see my MB icon-- heehee)

While in need of updating, my action figure collection:
I've got pretty much every Phoenix out right now, except for the recent Dark Phoenix limited variant Marvel Legends figure.
Slightly different, I love my 20th Annviersary Optimus Prime.
And I *need* that limited Dark Phoenix HeroClix that's available at the cons this summer...but I'm pretty sure there won't be any around by the time I hit Boston.

Scott-- I think the regular MARVEL LEGENDS line had a Dark Phoenix chase figure... the regular release (also short-packed, but not AS)was the classic green and gold figure.
Posted by Kinetix on :
*nods* Pov got it. I've got the green/yellow one. That was the normal version, packed one per case. The Dark Phoenix version was then randomly replaced, so was even rarer than one per case. And is currently expensive. My eyes are on the lookout for it, though.
As for the other Phoenix you mentioned LL, yeah. I'm waiting for that one (And it's variant) to come out as well.

Dang! I want that Aquaman! And I don't even *like* the 'hook'! Too bad it's a set...
...May's gonna hit the wallet hard!
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
I lucked across a MARVEL LEGENDS Iceman and Black Widow last night... these are the first ML figures I've bought, other than Namor.
There's a lot to like about these... though Widow's neck looks like she has a goiter unless you angle her head so she's looking down (which you couldn't do with a DC Direct figure). And Iceman has a multi-piece base which I can't get to stay together.
But they're so articulated, they're like anatomical models for an artist... or maybe a coroner.
If only they'd release Polaris, Valkyrie (with winged horse), Crystal (with Lockjaw), Black Bolt, Northstar, Quicksilver and Cannonball.
Wave Todd-- I'd keel over in a coma!
If either company issued your fantasy wave that had the seven or so of the figures you wanted most, what would that coma-inducing wave comprise?

Hey, Pov-- Marvel Select is making a figure of one of the characters on your list! Now you'll have to think of another one to replace him or her...
I named my Marvel Toddwave earlier (Crystal, Valkyrie, Polaris, Cannonball, Northstar, Black Bolt and Quicksilver-- still no annoucement about any of *them*-- )
Here's my DC Toddwave (I'm limiting myself to one male Legionnaire and one female-- though I'd probably fill the wave with Legionnaires if I really had the chance): ELEMENT LAD (surprise, surprise), SHADOW LASS (in the Moy Umbra costume, with Coipel 40's hair), the GA HARLEQUIN, the original TRICKSTER, OBSIDIAN, the JSA's SAND, and the BLACK ORCHID (the superheroine, *not* the Vertigo plant girl).
Buying those Marvel Legends figures has made me look all over town for a COLOSSUS figure and the green/gold PHOENIX with no success! I'm going to Disney World in a couple of weeks... I wonder if the UNIVERSAL theme park carries these? And do they have a 'shopping pass'?

The JLA set was pretty cool too except for the Batman figure. It didn't seem to be of the same quality as the others.
I've told myself no more action figures except for Legion related ones. But when I find a good deal on a statue or mini-statue I'll get it.

I'm sure they're insured through their carrier... I don't know about DHL specifically, but UPS packages are insured up to $100 at no charge. I can ask our DHL guy tomorrow.
If you were getting something more valuable, I'd think you'd be able to request increased coverage... a simple e-mail to Cameron & the gang would do the trick. And if you end up having any problems, I've yet to be disappointed with their handling of complaints.

BRING ME THE HEAD OF GALACTUS!
More short-pack woes for Marvel Legends lovers. As has been announced earlier, ML Series 9 figures are being released with parts that can be combined to form an 18" articulated Galactus figure. But it seems there's gonna be alot of headless Galacti out there; The head is packed with the Professor X (now with effeminate lipstick! And articulation below the waist! X2!) -- which is only going to be packed out ONE to a case.
Hopefully there'll be enough backlash against this crap that they'll rethink their strategy for Series 10, which will contain parts to a similarly-assembled Sentinel. But why do I doubt it, somehow...

When does series 9 come out? I just spotted the first series 8 the other day.
Posted by Pov on :
Apparently Series 9 is already showing up in the Philippines, on of our guys there can verify...
I've only seen a couple of cases of Series 6 and 8 at my local Wal, and the area TRU and Target are both cleaned out. Good thing I'm not really into these, though I'd kill for a S7 Hawkeye.
Although 9 and 10 are supposed to have some X figures I'd be interested in... Nightcrawler, Cockrum/Byrne Cyclops amd Red/White w/halo Angel.
Not that I'll see them anywhere but the walls at Wonderland, where they'll be marked up at least double, if not a LOT more.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
If I can find a Hawkeye I'll grab it for you. The Wal-Mart I was at the other night had series 6-8 figs. A bunch of Weapon X and at least one each of Ultimate Cap, Iceman and, IIRC, Storm. I'm hitting a couple more tonight (looking for some stuff for Proty) so I'll check out the toy section.

'Sall right. I appreciate the effort. My fault for ignoring ML for so long. I managed to score a Vision--the regular-- awhile back, so I may use that for trade. For someone I actually WANT.
I ran around a bit today, myself... A bunch of Ultimate Caps, a couple of Icemans, Target only had two Silver Surfers from what... Series V?
Eh. Wonderland has two Hawkeyes for $24 and a Vision for $30... have to see if they'd rather have two Visions and one Hawkeye.
Posted by Pov on :
And J, I can relate... I'm still kicking myself because I passed on all the regulars when the Wal here started getting 8, just around X-Mas. Nobody I was interested in, though I could have lived with the Black Widow... Since then they've gotten maybe 4 cases, and by the time I check they're wiped out.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
I visited a couple of Walmarts, a Target, a Toys R Us and a Kmart this week and saw several 'Weapon X' Wolverines (Ugh), a couple of Punishers, a couple of Nick Furys and 2 Gambits.
And lots of empty pegs with 'Marvel Legends' placards attached.
Next to *those* were virtual walls of Spider-man product in *every* store. Is this stuff selling and they're keeping the stock full, or is it just sitting there week after week?
I wish Toybiz would step up distribution of their product. It'd be nice if comic stores could order individual characters, rather than be forced to buy by the case.
The JLU and Teen Titans stuff looks fun. I haven't bought any for myself, but I did spring for a set of three for my nephew. I'll definitely get the upcoming Bumblebee and Atom-Smasher figs... maybe more.
Just what I need. New lines. (I sigh and shake my head)

Here is a look at series 9, 10 and 11. I think someone mentioned that after series 9 and Galactus was a Sentinel. That's included in the preview.
Every time I think I could get into collecting ML, They come out with a bunch of uuuuuugly figures!
What's with Nightcrawler, he looks so mean! Kurt should have a swashbuckling grin and at LEAST a cutlass for each hand if they couldn't come up with a prehensile tail for him. And what's with all the stiching on Cyclops' uniform... especially on his head?! What version was the development crew looking at on that?
Angel looks pretty good. So of course I'm not gonna find him unless I preorder Series 10.
And the characters-with-vehicles line-up... Ultron? That ain't no steenking Ultron! They were really stretching for a "theme" for this series. They should have done the FF with vehicles that combined into a Fantasticar...
Eh. I guess I'll take my chances at the stores, and depend on the kindness of others to help me get the figs I actually want.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed in the paint apps... very sloppy. Kitty's almost got a lazy right eye. And her eyebrows look like something painted on a dragqueen.
Lockheed looks great though, and the overall sculpt is great. But it's not up to the standards I'm used to with DC Direct.
If anybody's thinking about buying one, check the finished product before you do it. Don't go by the image on the box!

Wound up at a shopping center where I was trying to find a toy for him, but couldn't find anything suitable for his age--BUT I did wind up going into Tower Records where I got the DC Direct Adam Strange, Nightwing and Catwoman for MYSELF :-). I was never able to get them at my comics shop, so it was fun finding them there. And they were cheaper!
The Catwoman figure is cool, but her legs look soooo much longer than the other DC Direct figures. The upcoming Zatanna figure seems to have that body scupt, too.
I've never pre-ordered any figures, I always just luck out and find one...BUT I think I'm gonna preorder at least two of the Alex Ross Black Canary figures!

I just wasted a Friday afternoon driving all over town looking for the Marvel Legends Nightcrawler figure or the Bandai Bumblebeen figure that's supposed to be out.
I really wish there were more reliable sources for these things... that didn't jack the prices up unmercifully.
I should've known to wait till the Star Wars stuff starts to disapper-- there just ain't much room on those shelves for that and Batman Begins product and the endless Spider-man stock.
I had foolish hopes that I'd find the Phoenix fig... or maybe the Vision or Hawkeye. Looking at the prices online... those things are going for outrageious prices! Phoenix over $100? Aaack!
Maybe they'll do a second X-men set or an Avengers one. That's the only way I'll score some of those characters. Luckily, I have a nephew who'd be happy to take any characters I don't want from any proposed set. That way, I can play indulgent uncle and get *my* toys, too!

I'll be getting up early tomorrow- I've got a 24-hour Super-Wal down the road, and The Wal, Target and TRU a couple towns over (30 min. drive) open staggered hours... 7, 8 and 10. I've only seen one ML9 case, at my Wal*Mart, but the Titans and JLU stuff has been showing up in varying amounts throughout. If I find another Bumblebee/Hot Spot 2-pack I'll let you know. The only set I don't have is the Robin/Starfire pack, and only because I wasn't happy with the paints.
I'm just hoping to find some more ML's... I got the variant Green Hulk off eBay, but still need Dr. Strange, Prof. X and War Machine to complete the Big G.

Well, unless they make it cloth and removeable, it really would detract from the overall sculpt. I loooove the new picture you posted.. this figure is a definite.
I'm less sure about the BA Batgirl unmasked... I've got the SA set, and this is really just a repaint of that. It really shouldn't have the purse, as others have noted on the official DCD boards; and the "unmasked" head is great, EXCEPT that her hood is "pulled back" and worked into the sculpt. I'm not gonna display her perpetually unmaskING; I'd rather have an unmaskED head. As I said, I'm ambivalent on this one. But it is Babs... Maybe if the price is right...

They've had the same figs sitting on the shelves for months now... Ivy, the second Batgirl w/ black bodysuit, and both WW's. *sigh*...
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
We've got the same thing on the shelves here. Actually just the Ivy is left but they said they don't intend on bring in the next batch as these didn't sell well enough.
Posted by Pov on :
Wal*Mart does that. Their buyers are responsible for the fact that there's 27 dayglo Batmans to a case and 1 or 2 of what'll actually sell, then they stop carrying stuff when it sits on the pegs. They don't carry the JLU figures because they got stuck with all of the Batman and Superman figs they insist they need because they're the "popular" characters. It's freaking Catch-22.
I can't get too mad about the DC Barbies here because my Wal's given them a fair deal. I just think the current figures have reached saturation. Maybe I'll ask how many they need to sell to get another batch in... I could give 'em away.
"Gee, Bri, that Harley Quinn only cost you $100!"

Maybe next time there's a sale at the shop. Or a slow month comicswise on my DCBS order.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Okay, it's official: I hate that Cyclops sculpt. The stitches on his hood and costume are ridiculous, and the visor should be the classic Cockrum "lazy 8", not the oblong one he's running around with now. This should have been painted as the Cassaday ASTONISHING Cyke it was meant to be.
And as a variant, that one sucks. His Simonson X-Factor outfit didn't have baggy cuffs and pirate boots. This is just a lazy repaint.
The Angel figures, on the other hand... Neal Adams-orginal blue halo suit? Chew on THAT, DCD Batfans...

I placed my DCBS order late this month 'cause I knew my wallet was gonna take a hit... but I wasn't planning on finding THIS:
It'll make a great bookend to the other Kitty Pryde bust I got awhile back...

Nope, probably not... I didn't see any red X'es for sale there...
That's what you get for showing up after the sale was over.

So we went to WalMart tonight and what did I find on the shelves? Four out of the seven series 9 figures. I picked up Prof. X, Nightcrawler, Bullseye and Doc Strange. Now I just need to find Grey Hulk, War Machine and Deathlok.
And since I forgot that Prof. X was supposed to be the shorted one I stupidly left another one of him on the shelf. Do you think he's worth going back for?
Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :
The Prof figure may be short packed, but its still UGLY
Posted by Pov on :
Switch his head with the Galactus one they include. Still ugly, but very, very amusing...

Oh, no...
It's the full-sized JLU maquette... $90, $58.50 with my 35% off thru DCBS. And I thought this was going to be a -good- order month...
Maybe I'll wait for the mini...

Hey! Good news!! It looks like DCD is gonna produce MA JSA figures in 2006! No word on which characters that I've seen, but the GA Atom will be included in the wave.
AND there's going to be a BOOSTER GOLD figure and an Earth II HUNTRESS! (their home waves have yet to be announced).
Aside from the upcoming BLACK CANARY figure, there hasn't been much from DCD that I've been excited about (though some of the JLA figures *look* good...). This is a welcome announcement.
Posted by Nightcrawler on :
With my luck, they'll all be based on the art of that guy who's drawing New Warriors. So, I won't be happy until I see them, unfortunately.
Posted by Pov on :
I'm not buying any DC Direct unless I see it firsthand. They've lost my trust with the quality control issues of the last few waves.
Posted by Outdoor Miner on :
I'm starting to agree.
Wandering through the San Diego exhibition hall trying to find an Earth-2 Robin with a decent paint-job did that for me.
Posted by Pov on :
Bad paints, and Gary's literally had two left feet; my Compy from the recent FA wave 3 barely had his lower left leg attached, and the connector peice on the upper thigh was warped until I boiled it... For what these things cost, and I preorder to save money, we shouldn't have to settle for anything.
As much as people didn't like the later, cookie-cutter SA Legion figs, at least we knew the paint apps would be great. And defects were rare. I'll buy that nice-looking SA Timber Wolf before I preorder anything else.
And I'm quaking in "anticipation" of my Ross Black Canary and Elseworlds Thrillkiller Batgirl... I preordered those before the COIE stuff hit the shelves...
Posted by Nightcrawler on :
...and I picked the best out of three Supergirls that my shop had ordered and still had to settle for one that has blue paint bleeding into the red among other noticable defects.
And the good news about the Robin is that I was able to trade it in for another with the proper feet in the proper place (never thought I would have to look for that!), but the sad part is I had picked that two right-footed Robin originally because of the three, he had the best paint apps. So, now I have a smugged up Robin but with a left lower leg and a right lower leg!
I love DCD, I really do (I spend enough money on them!), but this latest wave plus what they showed at the Con has got me re-thinking my completest attitude toward them.

I saw Julius' report-- That ID Crisis Canary pictured in the article is hideous. Absolutely hideous. The sculptor should be embarassed to have their name on it.
Posted by Outdoor Miner on :
I was very surprised at the face on that Canary. I can understand wanting to make her look different - there are enough Canary figures out there as it is - but this seems like an error in judgement.
Posted by Pov on :
Any of you see/buy the new Krypto toyline yet? They're at my TRU... I haven't had the urge to actually get any, though. They're nice enough, I guess, but a little pricey for kids' toys. I might eventually pick up the talking Ace the Bathound, though.
Posted by Pov on :
Has anybody checked out or bought the SPIDER-MAN & FRIENDS action figures for kids? These guys are adorable! I've decided to pick them up and set them aside for my Godson Alex, so he's got something cool to play with when he comes over to Uncle Bri's. It was the Rhino fig that did it; Who can resist a cherub face on an otherwise bad@$$ villain?! I've managed to track down all the non-Spidey figures except the Color-Change Lizard, though I haven't bought the Wolverine, nor have I decided -which- Spider-Man I want for my set. The store I saw the Wolverines at has a web-climber Spidey that looks the most like the comic version, so...
(Pretty sad how I used Alex as an excuse to start collecting another line, huh? )

For those who can't be bothered, here's a thumbnail from the interview:
All together, now: AAWWWWW!! Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :
I saw those! The TRU display only had 1 Iceman and I was tempted to pick it up until I realized preschoolers might beat me up for it...I did pick up the Hawk n' Dove and WonderWoman JLU three pack though - can't decide if I want to keep it!
Posted by Pov on :
I've been getting mine at a couple of Wal*Marts near me, MEL. My TRU has the same 100 or so Spidey's, although I did see a Thing there recently. Hopefully ToyBiz has the sense to realize these are for kids, and not limit the non-Spidey figs too much... I'm probably going to have a devil of a time tracking down that Lizard, from what I've been hearing.

Oh, and I got Wolverine and an Air Launch Spidey on clearance at the Manchester Wal...
Bring on Iron Man, Green Goblin and the Lizard!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Have you guys seen the Marvel heroes in crates?
Posted by Pov on :
The Figure Factory ones? Only at TRU. Not too interested, and the only ones I've seen on the pegs are the Thing and Spider-Man crates. Any Marvel characters I'd actually be interested in getting would most likely end up being "mystery figures"... i.e., next-to-impossible to find.
I hear DC Direct's launching something similar to these; I'd pick up a Babs-Batgirl if it's a regular release and not a "mystery figure".
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Did anyone pick up the Alex Ross Black Canary? This figure is beautiful- but mine took awhile to find a standable pose.
I also picked up a Marvel Legends Angel and a Black Panther. I would've preferred a more 'classic' look for T'challa, but his is a nice figure. I'm not sure about Angel yet. The wings are pretty-- but he looks too much like a famous actor. I'm not used to him yet.
I lucked into a Goliath/Ant-man/Wasp Legends figure a couple of weeks ago. Love the little guys!
Unfortunately, that looks like it for my figure-collecting for awhile. With the exception of Wonder Man, I can't think of another figure for which I'm looking forward. There's the rumored JSA set sometime in 2006, but until it's solicited, I don't quite believe it.
Legion characters, Ahimal Man, Sand, Trickster, GA Harlequin, Black Orchid for DC would get me motivated. For Marvel, Crystal, Black Bolt, Quicksilver, Polaris, Valkyrie, Cannonball, Magma... sigh, what're the odds?
Posted by Pov on :
I got my AR Canary with my most recent comics shipment. VERy nice, although the huge-@$$ seams on her fishnets are a bit much. Mine stands fine on its base.
I lucked into -ALL- of the ML Sentinel wave figures this weekend... one stop, actually. Even the variants! Word of warning-- ToyBiz packed Mystique and Omega Red with the same Sentinel piece, as you only need six pieces for the BAF, so expect shortpacking a la the Series 6 Phoenix for the Mystique figure...
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Yeah- Legends figs seem much more readily available than they used to be... if you're patient.
Too bad the upcoming waves don't do a heck of a lot for me.

I'm hunting for JLU figs now (WHY!?!). Target has 'exclusive' figures in three packs - Black Canary, Bizarro, and Orion amongst them. The Canarys I've seen don't look nearly as good as on the cartoon - kinda like Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's Mom from American Pie). I'm on the hunt for Booster Gold, Red Tornado, and Atom Smasher single figures (not in the three packs). I'm thinking about trying to make custom JLU figures. Maybe a Blue Beetle or Captain Atom? Legion characters maybe?

The costume even has a reboot era Legion stripe!

I couldn't get the link to work earlier so here is the pertinent action figure stuff:
quote:In DC Direct news, an upcoming Silver Age Superman set will include Superman (with robot machineworks behind the s-shield), Lois, Jimmy, Perry, Lex, and Beppo the Super-Monkey.
quote:There will be a recall on the Crisis on Infinite Earths action figures from DC Direct, due to line-wide problems with paints, assembly, and looks. Consumers will be able to return figures they bought as well. The production problems with the CoIE line was pointed to as the cause of the shipping date changes for other DC Direct lines.
quote:Upcoming Infinite Crisis figures will include Power Girl, Alex Luthor, OMAC, and Superboy Prime with his new costume design.
quote:There will also be a line of figures based on Darwyn Cooke’s versions of the characters from DC: New Frontier.
quote:The next Elseworlds series will include a Spectre/Norm McCay two figure set at a single-figure price, in a box designed to match the look of the original Kingdom Come boxes. The subline will also include more Red Son figures and Gotham by Gaslight figures.
quote:The coming JSA line will include four modern JSA member figures, and one classic--the Atom--which will feature two complete figures in one box, one with the hood costume and one with the cowl revealing the lower face.
Posted by Pov on :
That all looks great. Major points to DCD for addressing the COIE quality issues.
Excellent news regarding the 2-in-1 figures... Nobody wants an individual Norman McKay, except maybe Alex Ross , and the two JSA Atoms is a nice reward for fans of that line who've gotten the shaft since DCD got the rights to produce Batstuff.
I'm excited about the IC Powergirl. The OMAC could be nice as well. Anybody know anything about Superboy Prime's new design?
I wonder if they're gonna give that Beppo a tail...

'Two Atoms' is a good surprise-- but I wish they'd announced which other JSAers were going to be included. (Sand! I hope...)
The 'new design' for Superboy Prime does get the speculative juices flowing... if the reboot Legion were still in print, I'd guess that it'd be a Legionnaire stripe.

And even though most here don't collect all HeroClix, this is the upcoming con season's collectible. A 14 inch Spectre. They claim he is the most massive HeroClix figure ever made but the Galactus con special was 16 inches in height. Guess WizKids doesn't believe in DC/Marvel cross-overs.

EE is confirmed but where did you get your info on Validus or Gim? No mention of either of them, even in Boneyard's list on HCRealms.
Meanwhile, here are the three confirmed Legion related figures for the next set (due in February):
Emerald Empress:
Ambush Bug
Krypto

Bro Magneto, one of the WK representative, revealed that we would have Validus as one of the DC Giant Collector's set, alongside Atom Smasher and Chemo and maybe Colossal Boy.....there has been a rumor that a Shadow Lass has been seen as a lone Legion rep for Collateral Damage.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I think there are a couple of uniques that haven't been revealed yet for CD but all the regular figures seemed to have been announced. I'd love to see them do a Shadow Lass. As well as a giant Validus. Might be enough to get me to buy HC again.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
ah.....REVEALED AT LAST!!! We can all add Colossal Boy, Shadow Lass/Umbra, and Validus to the official list! Looking forward to get them all in Feb or March.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
The Giant 'clix will be released in April but only to those who join the Collector's Club by buying a Clix Brick from a 'brick and mortar' store (no internet purchases) and who send away for the Krypto. I highly doubt, at this time, that these will be released to the general public. Which means I'll have to buy a brick to get a chance.
Here are the pics (including Shadow Lass/Umbra just confirmed for CD):
Colossal Boy
Validus
Shadow Lass/Umbra
Posted by superboymddjr on :
don't you love them all?!?
Posted by Director Lad on :
Clarification: you don't have to buy Krypto to get the collector's set. In fact, you don't really have to "buy" Krypto at all. He's available to ClixBrick purchasers for shipping and handling.
and yes, I totally love them (though the sculpt on Validus is a little wonky). Only Tharok and Mano to go!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I didn't say you had to buy Krypto. I said send away for him.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
I think that Validus and Colossal Boy are not finished yet....they were just released as prepainted, pre-something....so when they make the final process, I am sure that Colossal Boy will have his insignia on his chest and Validus a clear helmet with the brain shown (similar to Monsiuer Mallah and the Brain clix.)
Posted by Blacula on :
Why is Gim in his extremely boring current outfit instead of any of his infinitely more identifiable pre-boot or re-boot costumes?
Especially when neither Tasmia or any of the other Legionnaires we've see Hero-Clixed are in their modern costumes?
What's Hero Clix actually like? I've never played it but would be interested if anyone here is a big enough fan to want to convince me to try. I'm looking for something new and fun to get into.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
you can check out those information on www.hcrealms.com or www.wizkidsgame.com. if you go to www.wizkidsgame.com then you click on heroclix then click on DC then click on figure gallery then there are 5 icons you can decide to click on which one that interests you the most then go there and they will have a list of who are being made then you click on that particular character and they show you the picture. a lot of clickings!
so far made into the lix: Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Live Wire, Brainiac 5, Chameleon, Wildfire, Kid Quantum, Mordru, Persuader, Emerald Empress, Shadow Lass/Umbra, Colossal Boy, Supergirl, Shvaughn Erin, Science Police, Krypto, Superboy, Kid Flash/Impulse, and Ambush Bug.
the rumors for next year - maybe Ultra Boy, Apparition/Phantom Girl, and Element Lad --- notice the pattern? many of them follow the step of the Legion Lost.

Posted by Pov on :
The series is doing well enough to warrant figures in a regular ML release, I suppose... but it seems the main reason for the boxset at this point is because Heinberg's name is attached to the book.

Marvel Legends wave 12 (The Apocalypse Series) has finally hit the Northeast.
I'm not going to be getting the whole wave, as I don't care for the giant Apocalypse BAF, and refuse to buy an X-23 ( ). But the Sasquatch is a really nice sculpt, and I'm very happy to have an Iron Fist... although I can't get the floppy "flaming fist" attachments to stay on for the life of me. The "Astonishing" Wolverine is a nice surprise, also, but those three (and possibly the variants for IF and Sas) are going to do it for me for this wave.
B!tc# time: Did we really need variants for FIVE out of the six figures in this wave?! besides the "official" variants-- unmasked Wolverine, bald Bishop and Iron Fist repaint (red and yellow, from the end of the PM&IF series)-- there's a white "Snowbird as Sasquatch" and a repaint of X-23 (WTF?!!). Overkill.
I hope this isn't ToyBiz's attempt to milk it while they've got it, but it sounds like there'll be more of the same in the Wal*Mart exclusives and the Mojo wave.

The giant Marvel Walmart wave is starting to arrive. I found a display here in Knoxville. The sets were both there, but the only 'singles' left were THOR, SABRETOOTH and ANT-MAN. Which is okay, since I promised myself I'd only buy two at a time-- and THOR was at the head of my list. So, I also picked up ANT-MAN.
The YOUNG AVENGERS set looks terrific-- I'd ordered one through my cbs, though, so I passed on it.
Oh, yeah- there were some of those two-packs with a hero and a villain. I couldn't really look at them though, since a rather... large family was having a reunion on that side of the display (which was nowhere near the action figure aisle, in case you go looking).
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Anyone got a spare $500 they can loan me? This puts all those LoTR chess sets to shame and I'm not even the biggest Spidey fan. This would look so cool on my desk.
Posted by Nightcrawler on :
Those BASTARDS! Why $500!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
My guess is because the figures are all pewter (colored pewter at that) and the three-dimensional board. It is about the same as the non-colored pewter LoTR sets I've seen but this board beats them all. And from looking at the SOTA Toys site, this is just the first in a series of Marvel boards. If they get a DC license, I'll be selling a kidney for the Legion one.
Posted by Nightcrawler on :
You and me both, Scott.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
then who will King, Queen, Bishop, etc if the Legion set is to be unveiled?
I would chose Cosmic Boy as the King, Saturn Girl as the Queen, Lightning Lad as the Knight....Pawns? Bouncing Boy, Colossal Boy, Star Boy, Ultra Boy, Timber Wolf.....Mon-EL would be the Rook, Wildfire as the Rook, Brainiac 5 as Bishop, Karate Kid as Bishop, hmmm....Light Lass as another Knight...(twin siblings, get it?)...hmmm not much female legionniares???

Oh, good heavens...
Also solicited were the next wave of JSA action figures, including the GA Atom two-pack, and a nifty Barry Allen Flash from DCD's 13" Deluxe line...
Posted by Tamper Lad on :
From an Adam Hughes second print cover IIRC. Nice rendering, but er... not quite appropriate for my mantle.
Posted by Chaim Mattis Keller on :
I did get quite a chuckle out of seeing the "Power Girl Bust" solicited.
And FINALLY the Golden Age Atom, along with modern JSA members. About time they finished the original JSA lineup. The original JSA feels complete, even though I know Johnny Thunder and Mister Terrific are missing, and likely to remain so. Atom felt like a gaping hole.
Posted by superboymddjr on :
great!!!! I am gonna buy them all! We need Star Spangled Kid/Stargirl, STRIPESY, Jakeem Thunder/Thunderbolt, AtomSmasher, Jade, Obsidian, and many more real soon to complete the JSA Roster! I will get Earth 2 Huntress soon! can't wait.

From Bowen Designs, a full-sized Classic 70's Warlock statue!
There's also a matching "Modern" Warlock, the Perez Infinity Gauntlet design. But I really can't justify buying them both.
But -this- one... oh, yes...

Hmm.
or
Tough choice, but if I could afford either, I'd have to go with the Starlin original.
Posted by Pov on :
I've gotta stop searching when I fill out my DCBS orders...
That modern Warlock -is- really nice, but yeah, I have to have the classic Starlin figure. Just wish I could swing both of them, but DCBS only gives a 25% discount on the Bowen stuff. Still a good deal, but not good enough where I can justify buying both of them.
Maybe next month, if they're still offering it...

How much many can you get for donating blood/non-vital organs?
OBSIDIAN! SAND! I've wanted figures of these two since I started buying action figures! STAR-SPANGLED GIRL! DEADSHOT! NEMESIS! LIGHTRAY! And more! Mattel's character selection makes DC Direct look like a decided also-ran.
Even so, I wish DC Direct or the less cartoony Mattel line could or would make some of these characters.
I wonder-- if the JLU characters sell, will that induce DCDirect to maybe release heroes or villains they've been passing up?

Wizkids finally started selling the Giants to the public. On eBay sellers want at least $55 with double-digit shipping for a full set of seven or around $15 apiece + shipping for individual clix. I got my set in the mail from Wizkids yesterday and it only cost me about $45. That's $7.50 a figure which isn't too bad. Now I have a Validus and Colossal Boy to display.
Not sure, though, what I'm going to do with the other five figures as I don't play anymore.

Hey Scott, I actually looked for these in London last year and couldn't find them. They actually look really well posed (better than most of the Diamond Direct stuff).
Ooh, I wish you hadn't shown me those Corgis Kev. I gotta have that Phoenix one now. But $70.00.
Of the CMFC I managed to get #11 (Jean Grey), #12 (Iron Man), #40 (Dr. Strange), #41 (Invisible Woman) and the Juggernaut special from DCBS for only $9.00 each ($15.00 for the special). I thought I'd splurge one month and see what they are like. And I went ahead and grabbed a Gambit off eBay for $12.00 for Caroline.

Alright. I picked some of these up on eBay and wound up with an extra of the first two issues/figures; Spider-Man and Wolverine. They were in different lots of multiples so it was worth it in order to get the other figures.

Includes alternate mask. Advance-solicited; on sale September 19, 2007 • Collector figure• $69.99 US

Now I just need an SA Batgirl in this line...
Posted by Tekwych on :
Sorry POV but I just cant support DCD's 1:6 scale line. the figures are WAY out of scale (13" instead of 12") with anything else being made so they display poorly on the shelf. The body design is almost as bad as the Hasbro GI Joe body, years behind the engineering curve for 1:6 scale figures. The costumes are badly assembled and their is an amazing lack of accessories and posed hands. If the figures in this line were $15.00 I'd buy them for a child but these are no where near collector quality and not, IMO, worth the ~$50.00 asking price.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
I've picked these up over the last few weeks:
Donna Troy-- a beautiful figure, with the exception of ugly, ugly elbows. She's *tall*, though, and limited in poseability (suprise, surprise-- this is DCD). I'm complaining, but really, when I look at this figure I'm quite happy. I think she may have the prettiest face on any female figure I've seen.
Quicksilver-- Nice figure... a bit small. I'm wondering if I should keep an eye out for the green variant that's supposed to come out. Too bad there's no decent Scarlet Witch to display with him. The hair's a little off...
Kingdom Come Aquaman-- One of the few times I've bought a figure I didn't *really* want until I saw it. (Ares, being another.) You can call him King Arthur instead of Aquaman, if you want.
Animal Man-- Whoo-hoo! *nothing* to complain about with this one! I think this is a great representation of Buddy Baker! AND it's one of the figures I've most wanted!
Anyone know anything about the Mattel JLU sets with Obsidian and Sand and The Ray? Aren't they overdue by now?

Doc Samson? Can't wait! But freakin' VALKYRIE!! I am *excited* about this one. She looks great! (though I miss the hair over one eye... a la Veronica Lake)
Any suggestions for an in-scale horse to turn into Aragorn? It'd be too much to ask for one with wings, wouldn't it?
No pics for these, but supposedly there's a FF set that's going to include BLACK BOLT!!! And speedo-clad Namor. And a comics-accurate Invisible Girl!
With the recent release of Quicksilver, that's almost half my most-wanted Marvel list! Crystal w/ Lockjaw, Polaris, Cannonball and Northstar would complete it!
DC Direct and Mattel's new line had better step it up!

T, you might wanna ask on the SDCC '07 thread in the MMB... the few of us confirmed for this year might not necessarily see this thread.
Valkyrie -does- look good, doesn't she? And we're getting the Black Knight before her... I was going to use Hawkeye's Atomic Steed for Dane, but I'd KILL for a set of flying horses for him and Val-- Aragorn and Dane's black, batwinged horse from the Avengers #220- or 230-something. Call 'em Marvel's (Li'l) Legend Ponies...
I want a Patsy AF now! Maybe if they call her "Patsy Walker" or "The Cat", because a HELLcat is highly unlikely to ever get made... Don't even think about getting a Daimon figure out of Hasbro! No way would Wal*Mart stock an AF with Satanic imagery-- inverted pentacle chest emblem, pitchfork-- never mind him being called "Son of Satan". Maybe I can get a Quicksilver customized...?
And hey, Daimon had a chariot drawn by THREE horses...
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
I'd actually post a request in the con thread. I think only three or four of us really pay attention to this one.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Thanks for the advice POV and LL-- I'll do that.
As for Hellcat- I dunno, I think Walmart *might* stock a Hellcat. After all, they used that in movie titles in the 1940's and '50's. That's about where their corporate sensibility resides. (At least in terms of what they'll present to their shoppers, anyway).
I agree about Damon Hellstrom, though. *No* way that guy'll ever get released as a figure primarily available in mainstream outlets!

By the way, has anyone seen the Mattel JLU three-packs with Obsidian and/or Sand in them?

Kinda OT:
Anyone know any good resources for customizing action figures? I plan on asking at Julius' AFI.com...
I'm pretty certain Daimon Hellstrom, Son of Satan will not see action figure form. I want to customize a Quicksilver, maybe swap a hand with a spare Dr. Strange and add Namor's trident with some tweaks. Any ideas which figure I could borrow a cape from? Strange's is too cumbersome and would need alot of work...
Posted by Tekwych on :
Here is a Q&A from Mattel about its plans for the DU Multiverse now that they have the license for everything. Other stuff is covered as well. I would also point out that there is a survey for what figures people would like to see made. Mattel has a rep watching and will be answering some of the questions asked in this thread as well. The more 'comic book geeks' rather than 'action figure freaks' that participate may sway Mattel and DC to explore more of the DCM with their DCSH line.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Black Bolt! Black Bolt! Hoorah! He looks good, too. Nova-- a little slender, but good head sculpt. I like the FA Daredevil, but the neck's sort of funny. Even Astonishing Beast looks good- and I'm not fond of this form for Hank McCoy. And TIGRA! Imprrrressive! I wasn't sure about her-- though she doesn't look furry, just orange-skinned.
Marvel Legends are kicking DC's butt in character selection, aren't they?
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Gotta have that Black Bolt. Not a big Marvel collector outside the Classic lead figures but I'll got a huntin' for BB.
And I agree on that Johnny sculp. Would make a great Dirk.
Posted by Pov on :
Except for the Bradstreet Punisher and BAF choice, HML Series 4 is awesome-- I'm even excited for the AXM Cat Beast; With the upcoming Astonishing Cyclops and the AXM Kitty, Wolverine and Diamond Emma I already have, that just leaves an updated Colossus needed to complete the Astonishing team!
Nitpick-- why's it take 8 figures for the FF Wave to build Ronan, but Holocaust err, Nemesis only requires 6?
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Jericho! Sanding off those sideburns could yield a good Element Lad head-sculpt.
And an adult Dick! (Ahem) Lookin' good.
CANNONBALL! All that's left for Marvel guys that I *really* want are Northstar and maybe Sunspot. Hmm. Jamie Madrox and Rictor, I guess.
Posted by Pov on :
The Slade looks like a new headsculpt on the Deathstroke from the DCD Contemporary Titans Series 1. Terra and Jericho look suhWEET. And I can use the College-age Robin... I'll have all my Nightwings give him a beatdown.
I'll probably get the Marvel Girl/Cable 2-pack just to have that version of Jean, and try to recreate the cover to UNCANNY 137 with the Sentinel Series Cyclops. {geek!}
the TRU-exclusive Black Queen? !
Oh, and when I got a (Very) quick look at the Signature Series "Flame On" Johnny, my first thought was "Speedball?!"

I wasn't interested in Marvel's Legendary Heroes, ML-style indie AF's... until I actually -saw- them:
Series 1
The Pitt BAF looks MASSIVE.
Series 2
I'm less interested in this wave, though tha Monkeyman (BAF) & O'Brien would nice to have as a set. The best news is I have -zero- interest in any of the variants(2 per wave). The BAF's are 7 pieces, so we get some neat bonuses... Madman is packed with Timmy from the Pitt (Though, technically part of the overall Pitt BAF), and The Darkness comes with two Dark Minions instead of a Monkeyman piece.

Anyone run across one?
Posted by Pov on :
Is that the DC equivalent of the "Spidey&Friends" Line, Seymour? I've only seen the Batman and Superman figs online... I'll have to keep my eyes open next time I'm out. What grocery store did you see them in?
Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :
Yeah, it's a cute, blocky kids line. For some reason, I thought they were coming out in September. Meijer (a local superstore chain) had the best selection: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Lex Luthor. Kmart had a single Batman left, and Target had three empty pegs for them.
Posted by Pov on :
I've heard Meijer's mentioned on various toy-related MB's. Too bad they're only in 5 states in the midwest--Michigan , Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
I've got a SuperWal right next to me, and a Target, K-Mart and a couple regular Wals within 30-40 minutes. It'd be fun to have a kid's-style JLA.

Well, I just stopped at Toys R Us while I was out. They had a ton of Batmen (in three variations, plus the one that comes with the Batcycle), and a couple Supermen but not anybody else. Oh, well, I'm sure I'll find him eventually.

And lookit... Kirby "squiggles" sculpted into the thighs!!!

I'm just hoping Orion comes with his harness...
Posted by Outdoor Miner on :
Not sure about the harness, but I believe he does come with an alternate "Son of Darkseid" head.
Posted by Pov on :
That'll be cool, but c'mon! The Mike Turner Batman got an Astro-glider harness, fer Pete's sake! Not giving the Kirby Orion one would be as bad as making a Metron without a Mobius Chair! I'll have to petition Georg and the DCD gang... maybe those could be build-a-figure type pack-ins, especially the Mobius Chair if/when this series gets a second wave... I'm thinking Metron, Kalibak, Highfather and a Parademon.
If they buy that, I want Forever People line with them and Infinity Man(?) with the parts to their vehicle packed in.

So close! They had a bunch. They even had Flash (which I almost bought to sell on eBay but decided to leave for an actual kid, hopefully), but no Aquaman.
Speaking of leaving for kids, I was talking about it at work when I got there, and my friend Rob said when he sees figures he knows are a bit more rare but he doesn't want to buy, he'll bend up the card to discourage anal MOC collectors so it's more likely to end up in the hands of a kid.

I was talking to the toy guy at Target about this being my first time being a toy stalker (went to Big Lots and two Targets this morning before work), and he said there are regulars in there every day when they open. At his store, they're mostly Hot Wheels collectors.

Since I wasn't having any luck with these at my local Super*Wal, I ordered this and She-Hulk from Walmart.com. Have to say, as much as I miss the comics, I like the quality of the Hasbro figures. Hope they can tighten up the hip joints, though; the legs spread when I stand them. Not to the point of doin' splits, but enough to make posing difficult.
Now, I just need to sit Blob's head in some ketchup, and put some on the big blade of Thor's axe...

$21.75 for the Classic Marvel Collectors Mag special figure this month. Galactus. Got to have it though. I'm bound and determined to get the whole series.
And I ordered Caroline the Elvis in Vegas McFarlane figure. Looks pretty good though I wish he was in his black outfit from the TV special instead.

I checked the marvel-figurines.co.uk homepage, and they didn't have the Big G pictured- have you seen it anywhere? As an aside, I got my Kitty and Lockheed... how careful should I be handling it? I wanna open the bag and put the figure and poster book in my curio... Should I just wash my hands after and throw out the bag in the regular garbage?
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
That should be good enough. I haven't opened any of mine yet but I think the quality of these is better than the old lead figures I had growing up (for DnD) and those didn't kill my little brother, no matter how hard I tried.
Haven't seen G yet. This was the first I'd heard of him being released. Most expensive one yet. Just wish that DCBS would learn the difference between ' and " for feet and inches. If I believed the description, he's five feet tall.

Found a pic.

Looks nice-- doing the conversion, he's 127mm... 34mm taller than the Silver Surfer figurine. Seems Galactus should be bigger...
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
And only 17mm taller than the subscriber-only Spidey on rooftop.

Look what I found. EagleMoss, makers of the CMF series, is starting a DC set. No release date or any other info but here's a look at two figures.

Info I just found says that Galactus will be 155mm.

Making him over an inch taller than DCBS's listing... just over 6.1 inches. That's a little better, anyway.

Diamond supposedly upped the price yesterday too. By $5.00 IIRC. I wonder if DCBS will honor the price I ordered it at yesterday?
I'll upload a spreadsheet with images in a while for those interested. Which is probably me.

I got my LSH1 preorders set from TRU.com today... NIIiiiice... Marvel Toys did a good job with these, better than Hasbro is handling the ML license, I think. I don't know where I got the misconception Madman only came with "Timmy", he also had a BAF piece: Pitt's lower torso. The BAF pieces are contained as follows: Witchblade-Pitt head & upper torso; Madman with the aforementioned lower torso piece; Superpatriot and Judge Dredd-arms; and Dragon Ripclaw- legs.
Given the sheer size of Pitt, I can't believe Hasbro used 8 figures in the Blob wave. Greed, I guess. I -will- be preordering the second wave of Legendary Heroes, even if I really only want the Monkeyman BAF, Anne O'Brien and The Darkness figures. I figure I can eBay the loose AF's of characters I really don't want, like Sin City's Marv.
Pleasant, pleasant surprise.

Mattel is asking for input on their DC Universe line over at The Fwoosh. They would like fan input on B & C list Heros, Female Figures, Villains, and Fan Favorite Character. The LSH has been woefully overlooked on all lists but Ambush Bug has made the Fan Favorite list. Go Vote while you can.

So I finally picked up a ML Rachel Summers the other day. It's a great toy, the sculpt is perfect. The only thing it could use is a pair of shades. I saw most of the others as well. Dane will likely be the next one I get. Annoyingly there's still no sign of the new FF figures up here though.

Found some images for the Mattel DCUC Wave 3 due out later this spring:
--didn't we just get these from DC Direct? Robin and Deathstroke in a modern Titans wave, and the McGuinness Nightwing with the Superman/Batman series. I hear an unmasked Slade is supposed to be one of the variants.
Still, it's cool to see Tim in his current red and black outfit, and this might just be THE Nightwing figure.
Posted by Pov on :
Rounding out the wave are classic Hal GL and Sinestro, with Sinestro Corp Sinestro being another variant.
The BAF is Grundy:
I'm a little worried that Mattel's doing figs we've gotten from DCD already, and recently even. Hope it's not a sign of things to come, or else this line isn't destined to last long...
Posted by Tekwych on :
These are so much more than what DCD has put out and they will be available from Big Box retailers like TRU and Target. Here are the variants that will be randomly packed for in the cases as shown at http://Action Figure Insider:
Posted by Pov on :
Thanks, Tek.
Don't get me wrong, the sculpts all look great... and their availability will be further-reaching than DCD, for sure. I'm just a little let-down because most of these were just released by DCD in the last couple of years, minus that awesome Grundy.
I guess I was just hoping for Marvel Legends-style variety right off the bat. To be sure, getting Etrigan, Orion, Harley, Firestorm, Supermans Red and Blue and the Rex BAF in the first two waves is excellent... maybe that's why the third wave has me underwhelmed by Mattel's choices.

There is a serious attempt to mirror the old Kenner Toys Super Powers Collection of toys from 1984-1987.
I'm not saying this is a good thing or a bad thing but I will note that the PTBs at Mattel REALLY understand the draw of characters NOT from the Sups and Bat families. I will also say that the 4 Horsemen REALLY know their DC history and have some great ideas for CaC figures. Their plan is to bring in characters that may not ever get made on their own (The Element Man) and not just oversized figures (Grundy).
I also want to say that I have asked the guys directly about LSH characters and while they know and enjoy the Legion they will not talk to me about LSH figures.
Posted by Chemical King on :
This Supergirl figure ist beautiful - will it be the same size as the regular DC Direct figures? That is, will it go with my Legionnaire collection?
Still have no Supergirl there...
Posted by Pov on :
I think the scale on the Ross line is slightly larger than standard DCD releases, and definitely larger than the SA Legion figures. I'm only getting Kara to pose her with the Ross Batgirl.
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
I love the steampunk stuff and saw this JLA based on Gotham by Gaslight at boingboing. The guy who made them has individual pictures and other action figures at his site.
Posted by rtvu2 on :
DC Direct is doing a JL based on JLI.
They have Batman, Black Canary and Ice all based on Kevin Maguires artwork. The fourth figure is what sealed the deal - G'nort. I am so getting this and the 2 other lines they have already planned.
Posted by Chaim Mattis Keller on :
Ice, but not Fire? That makes no sense - they need to be sold together.
Posted by Pov on :
I'd rather see Fire made before that particular Black Canary-- Dinah channeling Olivia Newton-John... And a Maguire Guy Gardner is a must!
But a potential line-up like this is exactly the direction DCD needs. They either can't or won't compete with Mattel on articulation; as much as I was complaining about all Mattel's DCUC wave three figs already being produced by DCD recently, I've gotta say-- I just got the first wave from CSC, and they're great! The Mattel wave 3 is going to blow DCD's stuff out of the water if they can get their paint apps under control.
But there's definitely still room for DCD if they go this route with lines like the Maguire JLI.
Posted by rtvu2 on :
In the same article, they said that Fire, Booster and Beetle were all coming.
And POV, I got my DCUC at target and love them. They look great and can't wait for wave 2 and 3.

I am going to put this in the shout box too, but what website does everyone use to buy DC Direct Toys from?
Posted by Pov on :
I generally use the site I get my comics from, www.dcbservice.com . I can get individual figures for $12.50, or discounted sets like the upcoming DCD New Gods for $40.
I'm using Cornerstore Comics ( www.cornerstorecomics.com ) for my Mattel DCUC stuff. I had a good experience with the first set I bought from them and plan on preordering the next two waves. If you're paying by credit card they don't charge you until the merchandise is ready to ship.
Posted by rtvu2 on :
Thanks POV.
Shipping just kills me. It would be cheaper just to go to the local store and get them....
Posted by Pov on :
That's why I usually use my subscription service for DCD. It's even better now that they've adopted a $5.95 fee for once a month shipping... it used to vary by the total of the order.
CSC is a little steep-- $60 for a sealed case of six, only five of which I need, plus $9 for UPS ground. But I haven't been able to get out to Target or TRU in ages, and my local SuperWal sucks.
Posted by rtvu2 on :
I was able to get all the Mattel stuff at Target. I really want to buy the second set of New Frontier thats why I was asking.
Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :
I wish I had your Target. I swear mine hasn't restocked at all since Christmas.
On a happier note, I stopped at a 24-hour superstore (Meijer -- a Michigan and couple other states chain) on the way home from the movie theater to see if they had a Green Lantern (and/or a JLU Blue Devil) and discovered some new Super Friends toys.
They had three big plush characters: Superman, Batman and Flash. Hit them in some way, and they make a sound effect. As much as I like the Super Friends line, I thought they were pretty lame. With all the cheap technology at our fingertips, you'd think they could make more than one sound effect. But on the back of the box, it showed the wave 2 figures (Cyborg, Hawkman, et al).
They also had new Superman and Batman cars -- small ones not big enough for figures.
So I guess Wave 2 is close. I can't wait to get a Hawkman!

Has anyone else gotten DC Universe Classics? Its another drain on the wallet for me. I love the assortment of characters.
Also, I've become a huge collector of JL Unlimited. Its about to become a Target exclusive and the Dick Sprang inspired "Classic Detective" Batman is a must.
I love toys.
Posted by Future on :
rtvu2, I'm a fan of both. I was surprised with how much good stuff looks to be coming out of the JLU line in August. I was worried it'd lose steam. Very excited for the Giganta SDCC exclusives.
I'm not sure what my approach will be this fall for DCU. I originally was behind being a completist and buying them all, but I think I'll start picking and choosing after seeing the upcoming waves, even though my collector nature tells me I must have them all. At the price point and size/space they take, I should be more realistic.
Not sure how I feel about the Infinite Heroes line. They're a similar size to JLU and I'm such a fan of that line that I can't help but feel a little sad that they're making such a large slew of articulated figures for a new line rather than the existing one. Some of the sculpts look nice, though a few of them I'm not sure about.
I'll have to wait and see. I don't think I have the space nor time to collect all three series, and I've already started on the other two.
Posted by rtvu2 on :
Future, I feel the same way about Infinite Heroes. I'll wait till I see them in the stores.
I can't wait for all the JLU goodness. I am still debating if I want to get to San Diego or not. I just want to get the exclusives of both JLU and DCU.
The DCU line has been great. That has to be the best Wonder Woman ever. And the wave 5 sneak of Hawkman? Can't wait to see what happens.
As for storage and space, I have a toy room. Its the only way.
Posted by Tekwych on :
The 4HM take a LOT of input about their sculpts over at FANtastic Exclusive (http://www.fantasticexclusive.com) They will be working on the DCUC line, A Movie Maniacs line that starts with Batman TDK and will include Batman Begins in the second wave, and do have some input on the IH line. By the way The 4HM are VERY aware of LSH but when I ask them about inclusion in DCUC they avoid the question.
The IH line will be 1:18 scale (GI Joe, Star Wars) and there are rumors of a Marvel 1:18 line by fall as well so, since most of my collection is already 1:18 (Microman) I am all for the new stuff.
Come on over and put in your two cents for DCUC characters and design ideas.
Posted by Future on :
I wonder if the Legion aversion is leftover from the difficulty getting the cartoon's toy line in stores. Maybe they're hesitant to put out a product that, from their side of the fence, looked like it wasn't going to sell or get support. I'm not too surprised by the aversion anyway. I know team or character-specific questions given to Mattel reps when they're interviewed by fans tend to get deferred since they can't up and spoil what's coming out. I hear a lot of fans complain Mattel deflects all their GL Corps questions, though they have and will see some more product it looks like.
Outside of the fact it would triple my collection, my hesitation on Infinite Heroes is like rtvu2. I need to see them for myself. Some of them looked good, but others such as Supergirl had lackluster sculpts. I think the finished product will be a good judge for me.
Speaking of Marvel, was I the only one underwhelmed by all the upcoming Marvel Legends and related offerings? Not only are they all horribly delayed, but there's nothing I'm really seeking from any of the upcoming waves or dozen movie tie-ins. I'm interested in Astonishing Beast, and maybe Tigra or Spiral. But other than that, nothing looked too exciting for me personally. I might get all of Wave 4 (or is it now Wave 5?) with the Nemesis BAF, as I don't have a Punisher or Daredevil figure and as an old New Warriors fan I don't mind Nova at all.
Posted by Tekwych on :
To be honest I get the feeling there is something in the works and they just can't go public yet. They have admitted that LSH members would see plastic form soon and that JLU and DCUC are possible. Mattel, or at least some in charge of boys action figures, have seen the light and are doing a much better job of listening to those that listen to collectors / consumers. If you look at the Q&A that Mattel has done with RTM, Figures.com. TNI, AFI and others you will see that many of the thoughts and ideas form these fan basses have been heard by Mattel and are being acted on. You don't see the awful case packs of the last He Man fiasco and character choices have better balance within a wave than in early Batman lines. The simple fact that JLU will continue as a 'collector line' exclusive to Target shows that the company is willing to produce figures in smaller numbers to support a specific sales base.
As for ML I have been underwellmed since the move to Hasbro and predicted this drop in QC and design choice from the beginning. Hasbro is doing great things with the 25th GI Joe line but dropped the ball on ML and missed a huge opportunity to use the Sigma 6 body style where it could find it's full potential.

I have long resisted the urge to both buy AND display geeky totems, but Mighty Muggs have won me over! I can already see a Muggy Avengers tableau -- Cap (whom I got for father's day!), Iron Man, Thor. Should I include Hulk, Wolvie and/or Spidey? I'm thinking the big 3 are plenty.
BTW, I think what I love about these things is that the default body shape fits the bluster and bravado of the Marvel heroes. And the paint design is just awesome. Cap America has eyebrows, five-o'clock shadow and chainmail-shaped scalloping on the edge of blue short sleeves, plus a mod glint off his belt buckle. I wish the more "serious" figures had paint design and quality as good as these do.
Mighty Muggs! Say it again!

As usual, a huge amount of STUFF gets announced at Comic-Con. 2008's no exception.
From a variety of sources (actionfigureinsider.com, thefwoosh.com, toy insider news) come these:
DCUC: in 2009 -Camouflage Aquaman (that swirly blue suit from the '80's-- can Tempest be far behind?) -Flash Barry Allen -Captain Cold -Kid Flash -Big Barda and unmasked variant -Blue Beetle -Bootser Gold (modern variant, and Skeets open to show Mr. Mind) -C&C Atom Smasher
This is the first C&C wave in which I'd actually want all the component characters on their own. Or at least wouldn't mind having them...
Atom Smasher! I'm excited about that one.
Wave 6 -Regeneration Superman (chase long hair in classic uniform) -Killer Moth (classic) -Hawkman -Mr. Miracle (Dr. Impossible chase) -Shazam -Kalibak Collect and Connect
I think this has been known for awhile?
TRU 2-packs -Cyborg Superman and Mongul -Hal Jordan (year one costume) and Abin Sur
INFINITE HEROES (the new 4 inch, non-JLU styled figures, which I've yet to see in a store):
Black Hand, Atom, Manhunter, Quardian, Hush, Batwoman, Question, Question with coat (chase), Wildcat, Batman, Power Girl, Star Sapphire, Black Lightning, Dr. Fate, Spectre, Captain Boomerang, Raven, Starfire, Black Canary, Green Lantern, Green Arrow (chase of GL in original uniform), Lex Luthor and thugs
TRU Oa 6-pack
Gotham Streets Batman, Killer Croc, Jason Todd Hush, Catwoman
That's right LEGION 4-PACKS! Don't know if this'll be figures sculpted from the late lamented cartoon or from the LSH episodes of JLU-- or something else entirely.
GENTLEMAN GHOST!!! Can't wait to see this one.
Also, there are Adam Strange and Starfire exclusives at the new Mattel website. Starting Monday, I guess, but I'm not sure.
As for Marvel:
Marvel Legends
WalMart Exclusive Wave- Ares Build-a-figure wave (8 figures) -Kang -Crossbones -Guardian (classic Alpha Flight version) -Heroes Reborn Armor Iron Man -Vision Ultimate War Machine -Ben Riley Spider-man
More ML 2-packs -Stealth Iron Man/Sharon Carter -Classic 70’s Armor Iron Man/Maria Hill, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D -DumDum Dugan/Hand Ninja
Spider-man Classics aka "Hero Movie Action Figures" 6" Scale -Tarantula -Iron Spider-man(clear tint) -Red and Blue Classic Spider-man -Juggernaut (classic version and red and gold variant) -Venom III ("classic" with a long tail)
Spectacular Spider-man (Animated Series) -Green Goblin -Electro -Iron Man Movie Figures -Stealth Strike Iron Man -Classic Iron Monger (blue) -Atmospheric Diving Iron Man (light blue and black with clamp on flippers) -Satellite Armor Iron Man -Captain America Armor Iron Man -Mark I armor Iron Man (gold version) -Torpedo Armor Iron Man
New Super Hero Squad -Nighthawk -Black Panther/Storm -Kang/Thing -Gargoyle/Thing -Human Torch(clear yellow)/Hulk -Green Goblin/Sandman (comic versions) -Winter Soldier/Crossbones -Rachel Summers Marvel GirlCyclops -Many Jane (with spider-man mask in hand)/Spider-man hanging from lamp post -Captain America/Falcon -Black Costume Spider-man/Doc Ock -Captain America/Red Skull (with cosmic cube) -Wolverine (brown and tan)/Magneto -Master of Kung Fu/Sentry
I'd consider buying Ares as a stand-alone, but I don't care a fig for any of the figs (ha!) in that list, with the exception of Guardian, depending on how he looks.
Not interested in anyone else on that long list, except for a few names from the kiddie line, which I probably woudn't pick up.

Silver-age JLA fans, current JSA fans-- take note!
Does anyone get the Marvel Collector's Magazines with the lead figurines put out by Eaglemoss?
I've gotten a couple- Polaris and, this week, Crystal. I ordered them for the figurines, but I enjoy the magazine more. (Though I was appalled that of the Crystal issue's 17 pages, three comprised an article about super-hero divorces in which Crystal's name didn't even appear.) It's a treat to see page after glossy page with art from a favorite character's biggest moments. The articles are hit or miss-- but I discovered something new about characters I've liked for years in each one.
My other favorite Marvel heroine, Valkyrie is supposed to be in one of the not-too-distant assortments-- now if only they'd do Darkstar!
DC magazine/figurine sets are starting soon (I guess they're already out in the UK?) So far, it's been all the usual suspects-- if the line continues a couple of years (the Marvel one's now in the eighties, I think-- with plans revealed to go at least to 140), and Eaglemoss branches out to characters like Crys and Lorna, I'll be over the line.

I just preordered Adam Warlock, #90. The latest solicits were for Warlock, Absorbing Man(#88) and Guardian(#89).
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
I just got back from Knoxville's Comic Convention, ADVENTURECON, where I picked up the Polaris mini-bust I've been eyeing for a couple of years now.
I also got some Heroclix (2 for a buck)-- Element Lad, Gold from the Metal Men, Magma and Count Vertigo.
My final toy purchase was a loose Captain Marvel (Shazam), whose head I promptly popped and plunked onto a DCUC Booster Gold which I had painted green and black, making a somewhat adult-looking Chemical King. I didn't find the long-haired head I want to use for Kid Eternity (on a Madman body), but I can be patient.
The lone book I bought was BLUE DEVIL summer fun- which contained a couple of alternate origins for Black Orchid, a character I've been mildly obssessed with for awhile now. It was a fun issue-- which ended with The Creeper suggesting that he and the characters that appeared in this issue should form a team.
They would've been a perfect SHADOWPACT team-- Blue Devil, costumed Black Orchid, Madame Xanadu, Phantom Stranger, Man-Bat, Creeper and The Demon.
Throw in Enchantress and/or Nightshade and I would've preferred this lineup to the one that actually was used for that title.
Anyone going to cons this summer and picking up some fun loot? I know the major ones haven't really begun, but there're loads of smaller, more regional cons that are still well-worth attending.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Good news from the cons this weekend about Marvel Legends (as culled from reports at thefwoosh.com). The 6 inch line *isn't* dead- but will return with 19-21 figures through 2010 (I'm not sure if the new characters will appear *starting* in 2010, or earlier- they still need to get that oft-delayed Nemesis series into Walmart).
Three Legends were shown at one of the shows-- Warpath, Lady Bullseye(!) and Jamie Madrox. A move towards contemporary characters would seem to be afoot.
In addition, characters from that poll that Hasbro conducted a year or two ago are among those that will appear. (1st Appearance Storm, Aurora, Gambit, Lilandra, Magneto, Northstar, Silver Samurai)
And the handful that were cut from the Hulk waves (Valkyrie, Bi-Beast, and Red King(?)). 'Retooling' was mentioned, so it's unclear if they're to be included in these 20-odd selections.
There was a hint about 'an Inhuman' to keep Black Bolt company.
Also, three more polls will be conducted- with responders picking characters for upcoming release.
Though it's not yet completely decided, it seems that most of these figs will be released in the form of two-packs.
I hope Valkyrie and Northstar are among the 2010 characters. For the Inhuman, I'm betting on Lockjaw- given the success of the PET AVENGERS series... though Crystal's getting some real focus in WAR OF KINGS, as is Medusa, to a lesser degree.
Who makes a good two-pack mate for Warpath, Madrox and Lady Bullseye?
There are two Daredevils in the Nemesis wave, not that would stop Hasbro/Marvel from releasing yet another one to pair with the new villainess. A character that would make a funny sort of sense is Hank Pym in the person of his new persona, The Wasp. See the connection?
For Madrox, Siryn would seem a good choice. I'd be surprised if he was paired with anyone that wasn't in the most recent X-FACTOR cast. Strong Guy'd be a strong possibility, too. I can't think of a villain that's all that connected to Jamie... who was the bad guy in his first appearance in that FF annual?
For Warpath, there's Thunderbird, Hepzibah (his current love interest), any number of X-Forcers past and present. I'd probably go with Rahne Sinclair.
Of course, the characters Hasbro puts in two-packs don't *necessarily* have to share much of anything. Several pairs have, though.
Mattel and DC Direct have been issuing some great characters. I'm glad Marvel's back in this scale.

DC Univerce Classics rarely stay in stock with us only getting the Validus wave like has week, with often not the full wave. Before that we had only recently got the Darkseid wave. Marvel Legends don't show up here at all. In cause you were wondering where I'm picking up these when they are here it's Wal-Mart or Fred Meyer.

Wave 17 of DC Universe Classics has just been revealed & it's Blackest Night themed. The figures are:
White Lantern Hal Jordan Black Lantern Hal Jordan Blue Lantern the Flash Violet Lantern Wonder Woman Orange Lantern Lex Luthor Sinestro Corps Scarecrow Indigo Lantern the Atom BAF Anti-Monitor
Most of them look cool but I'd rather we go some more characters fitting the "classic/universe" idea, there seems to be way too much DC Direct overlap these days. Even with the sub-lines considering they have the GL Classics now too.

What B.S. ... DCDirect just DID Blackest Night figures! And I think BOTH of those Hal figures are out-of-story... definitely the BL one... Oh, well. I can save my $$$ for the Legion wave...

If they had a Legion necklace instead of this Supergirl Necklace, I would be sorely tempted (although $500 is out of my price range). They also do DC-themed bracelets and rings for Batgirl/Bat family, Wonder Woman and Cat Woman.
