Comic Book Idol 2 is gearing up to start next month. I know quite a few people who hang around here (Dean, Drake, Frog Kid to name a few) who had better have their portfolios ready and enter this year's competition.
For a recap of last year, what Comic Book Idol is and other info, head on over to CBR.

And there had better be a representative of Legion World in the competition. The winner gets flown out to the Con in San Diego.

Oh, the open call for submissions begins this Thursday (May 27). So get crackin'!

Hmm. I'm in half a mind whether to submit or not. It is a *great* opportunity, and could be great fun (last year's certainly was) but... I'm just not sure I have the time to spare. I don't have great access to a scanner either, but... Hmm, I shall consider...

I wish you had time Bevis but I can understand that.
And the fun has begun. First submissions are due by Monday, May 31st. Here is a link to all the info you need:
They should get Liefeld to judge this... you know, like having Paula Abdul on AI!
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Wouldn't Liefeld be more aking to Whitney Houston hosting? Or would that be Alan Moore?
Posted by Pov on :
I see Jim Shooter in Simon's seat...
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Who would be Randy then?
Hmmm. How about Erik Larsen? Or Todd McFarlane?
Posted by Pov on :
Larsen, definitely. He's got the same kinda pudgy, dopey look, but has a comparable acumen for the biz that Randy has for music.
Posted by Pov on :
And if we're gonna mirror AI exactly, I'd probably put Louise Simonson in Paula's chair, or maybe Barbara Kesel.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
What? Gail doesn't rate?
And I was thinking the same thing about Larsen. He seemed to match Randy, to me.
Posted by Lightning Lad on :
Hey, why don't we do our own Comic Book Idol? We can't offer the publishing prizes that CBR is but I could come up with something. And we choose three judges to rate them but its the voting public who makes the choices.
We could put up a poll every week and give the board 2 days to vote who goes on to the next round.
Think we have enough aspiring artists here? And it wouldn't have to be limited to pen/pencil/ink artists. Good old manipers like MEL could play along too.

The ladies I picked for a comic version of Paula, I was thinking someone who was ONCE "hot", but has disappeared from the scene. So Weezie's my first choice. She had great runs on Power Pack and New Mutants before being forced out by teh new, "hot" young things and styles-- Liefeld on X-Force ring a bell?
She's probably a REALLY good analog for Paula, come to think of it...!

And that post was brought to you by Babwa WaWa...
Get it? 20/20? Huh?

Well, we got a page set up for Bevis. All he needs to do know is submit his entry. If you want to take a look at his work, visit: http://www.lightninglad.com/bevis/bevis.htm Posted by Obadiah Oldbuck on :
Scott,
I'm all for a LW Idol contest, although this is a different atmosphere and I would rather encourage all to play rather than vote anyone out. Maybe other aspiring artists could illustrate the same MEL: The Series scripts I am currently working on.
We could vote on whose version of each page we like best?
I do wonder if tere are enough aspiring artists tough. Me, Dean, Drake.... any others?

Oh... and Beavis. Love his work by the way.
Maybe the "prize" could be that, whoever's version of each page for MEL: the Series is voted best, that would become the "offical" page in an online version, or one that we could co-operatively publish for our own amusement.
