Well? I collect almost every DC, Marvel and Crossgen book on the market (just not all the X books), so don't worry about that. I'm asking what Image, Dark Horse and other publishers are currently putting out books that you're loving right now?
Savage Dragon, the Goon (from Dark Horse), a few horror books by Dark Horse, Powers, Top Ten and other books always looks good, but usually I don't have the money to get them. But occasionally I do, and I'm always interested in seeing what else is good. What do you guys reccomend? Anyone read Savage Dragon? The Goon? Any Image? Any ABC? Warren Ellis books? Powers?
And I highly reccomend Negation and Sojourn from Crossgen, and Fables and Y: the Last Man from Vertigo!

If you are into horror you have to try IDW's line. The 30 Days of Night Annual 2004 just came out. Dark Days just finished up I believe but Return to Barrow is starting soon. And they are doing an adaption of Dawn of the Dead and Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. Their CSI books are pretty good too.
Other than those I think you already read all that I do. Except maybe Dork Towers and Nodwick. Those two should be on everyone's list.

Todd Nauck's WildGuard from Image has been excellent, and should be an ongoing after the Casting Call mini wraps up. David Mack's finally getting back to Kabuki with a new story arc starting soon, also published by Image. And Frank Cho's Liberty Meadows is one of my favorite books-- published bi-monthly by (you guessed it ) Image.
I get Tom Strong, TS's Terrific Tales and Promethea from ABC. I've also been enjoying the various ABC spin-off mini's SMAX and TERRA OBSCURA.

And Terra Obscura has been slated for a second mini, by the same creative team. Not sure when it's scheduled for release, though.
I'm pretty sure Todd N. was planning an ongoing after the line-up was decided in CC, and the success of the mini hopefully all but guarantees we'll get an ongoing. I'll have to check his site to see if he's updated, though...

I'd highly recommend picking up "Supreme Power" from J Michael Stracynski. It's loosely based on the Squadron Supreme (the JLA really, but it's Marvel so they use the Squad's names even though this isn't the same reality) and is one of those "realistic" versions of a superhero universe that's really well done. Look for the thread here in this forum to get more info on the book. I think a trade collecting the beginning of the series is due out soon as well.

I really don't buy that many Marvels. Supreme Power, Ultimate X-Men, The Ultimates, Iron Man (which has been good lately), FF and Exiles (which I should drop) are all that I can think of off the top of my head. What I really need to drop are the Superman titles, JLA and Batman.

I did drop Exiles (and Avengers) after Chuck Austen took over the writing. I'm picking up JLA for the Claremont/Byrne/Ordway arc, and haven't touched a core Bat- or S-book in years. Got Batman 615 for the Nightwing AR appearance, but that's it.

I jumped on the Loeb/Lee Batman and really enjoyed their run. The 100 Bullets team that took over after though. Ugh. Just not the same. I forgot that Avengers is on my list too but it could be another title dropped and not missed.
JLA, unless there is a dramatic improvement, will be gone after Claremont and Byrne have their way. Maybe I'll finally let go of the Superman titles after the current storyline finishes. Except Lee is coming on soon.
Arrgh! Maybe I'll just stop buying comics altogether and become a monk.

Don't know if you are a Star Wars fan or not, but Darkhorse has some good things going on in the Galaxy Far Far Away. Some of it can be hit or miss though, so definitely wait for tpbs to be collected. I've enjoyed most of Ostrander's work...
As for me, the only must haves are Legion and Ultimate Spider-man (the tpbs only though). If you're reading those then you've got my interests covered. I put Exiles, Ultimate X-men, Batman, and Star Wars trades on my birthday and christmas wish lists... I've found that I really don't miss them.

A quick follow up... I would recommend the actual books over the comics as far as Star Wars is concerned. The Thrawn Trilogy (by Timothy Zahn) is a good place to start (they pick up about 10 years after Return of the Jedi). Very, very entertaining reads.

The two books that I would recommend would be Powers and Planetary. Both offer an interesting twist on existing fictional realities. Powers is a "realistic" super-hero book, showing a world in which the super-heroes are like most other celebrities: doing endorsements, giving interviews to fan mags, etc. The story focuses on the cops of the city in question, though, so the perspective is rather different, too. The characters are great, and if the dialogue is a bit typically Brian-Michael-Bendis-y, well, I can handle that.
Planetary is a bit like the "X-Files," only good. The Planetary team goes around the world investigating strange occurances. Most of the events, stories or characters are based on characters from the pulps of the early twentieth century, so we've seen analogues of Tarzan, Doc Savage, the Shadow, etc. There have also been references to various DC and Marvel super-heroes. The main bad guys are essentially the FF gone very, very bad. Basically, imagine the Marvel universe if the FF acquired phenominal cosmic power (instead of stretching, etc) and used their powers to prevent the appearance of many subsequent heroes. Planetary is nominally set in the same universe as the Authority, but it seems to have a life of it's own. It's extremely entertaining and I can't recommend it enough.

Wow, thanks for the response everyone! I'll try to get to everyone in this reply !
Scott: thanks for the info! I love horror comics, but don't really get to read much outside of Vertigo and the occasional Dark Horse! I've never picked up any of those, so maybe I'll give them a shot. I've never heard of Dork Towers though, what's it about?
Oh, and Iron Man is a great, great title right now, I higly reccomend it. Out of all of Marvel's "mainstream hero" titles, I'd say Iron Man is the best, ahead of both Fanstastic Four and Avengers, which aren't too shabby (I'll wait on commenting on Austen's run on Avengers though). Pick it up, it's great political drama!
Pov: that's the second time you've reccomended Liberty Meadows to me, so I'm thinking of trying it out. With reccomendations from Stu, He Who Wanders and others on this board, it must be good! Plus, I know you have good taste, I've seen your collection !
I've never tried any of the ABC line, but I love Watchman, From Hell, Swamp Thing and League of Extraordinary Gentleman from Moore, so I don't know why I've waited! I guess I should give them a try too...any One in particulur I should get first?
Wildguard is another one I've heard is good, but I always forget to look for it at the comic book store.
Drake: I'm currently reading Supreme Power and loving it! A very well written title, with a very eerie feel to it that is rarely seen in comics without outright nudity and violence. I can't get enough of it!
Minesurfer- I've never really collected many Star Wars comics (although I'm a big fan of the movies), but my little brother is a major, major Star Wars nut. So thanks for the recommendation, I'm always trying to get him to read more comics, so this might be a good idea!
Director Lad- Hm, I'm glad that you replied, I've heard such good things about both Powers and Planetary. Powers looks very cool, I picked up two issues (15 and 16 maybe?) where the big blond hero in white dies and his wife kills herself. Very interesting, but I've never had the chance to go through them all. My comic shop owner recommended buying them in trades though, he said like most Bendis stories, you're just not getting enough bang for your buck each issue, but it's a great story as a whole. What do you think?
I've heard good things on Planetary, but I didn't realize there was a cool FF connection like that. I might pick this up...
Monkey Eater- Top Ten is another book I've heard good things about. I'm not too sure what the premise is, but along with Pov's recommendation, I might give the ABC books a try. The tough decision is whether I should hunt down back issues or go for a trade though.
I picked up the first few issues of Noble Causes and found it very entertaining, but my pull lists were getting so big that I didn't have the money to continue, and the last issue was like five bucks I think. I was thinking of grabbing it, now that Marvel and DC finished up a lot of their minis. I'll have to decide on impulse in the comic book store.
Wanted is a book I'm unsure about. Mark Millar really. I can't stand the guy. I think Ultimate X-Men and Ultimates are the two comics I hate the most right now, the two I'm most likely going to cancel, mainly because of him. But with it being a character that I don't have an invested love for, I might be able to stomach it .
I've checked out some of Ellis' run on Stormwatch (in Barnes n' Noble one morning) and liked what I read, but Authority is always another book I forget about. Maybe I should grab those, I'm thinking the trades are the best bet.
Guys, great job so far! That's a whole bunch of recommendations that I can follow through on! I'll let you know when I pick a book up (depending on how big the pile is each week)! All I can say is more, more, more! Anyone else have anything they recommend?
I really would like to know if anyone reads the Goon and Savage Dragon, I always think about picking them up, but never do. I've heard good things, though. I think Duke gets the Goon, I'll wait until he responds.
And in return, if anyone has any questions about any DC or Marvel title, fire away! I can give you recommendations on any of them- I get them all! I'm anxiously awaiting Lee's Superman for one thing, and JLA does look like Byrne's best art in YEARS. Like I said, Iron Man is good, but also try New Mutants, Daredevil, Superman/Batman, Willingham on Robin and Birds of Prey!
Thanks guys (now who can guess how many times I misspelled 'recommend' in this post, I know at least a few, because I've done it with both one 'c' and two !

Des, you can get the ABC books in trades... I highly recommend getting the two Top Ten TPB's. Check out the first Promethea trade and see if it's your cup o' joe.
