My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

RIP [Frown]

I've been a fan of his art since I was a young teenager, and I always associate him with Spider-Man even though I saw his art on lots of other things. At only 44, this is very sad.

I'm in total shock. I used to read his blog regularly but had gotten out of the habit. So unexpected, so sad. [Frown]

Warren Ellis just posted that he and Wieringo were finally going to do a book together this year.

This is a shock. He was only 44 and a vegetarian! Died of a heart attack. I was always a fan of his art. This is sad.

This is awful news. [sob]

I loved his work on TELLOS. 44 is too young. [Frown]

This makes me sad. I loved his Flash run with Waid. He was very unique in that his comics were very energetic and fun, while being very clean and economical in his linework. Very, very much like Jeff Smith. I'll treasure my books of his that I own even more.

He would have been a great "young Legion" artist.

'Ringo, you'll be missed.

White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

Wow -- a real shock. It'll be a shame to think of what he never got a chance to do, but we'll always have all the great work he conritbuted to comicdom.

CBR posted some comments from Mark Waid and Matt Haley:

quote:
Mark:
"Everything is moving in slow-motion this morning. I have never worked with anyone more talented than Mike, more on my exact creative wavelength, and likely never will. Mike was one of the very best friends I have ever had and without question one of the two best partners. Someone remind Barry Kitson to keep taking care of his health, because if he goes, there's really no point to me ever sitting down to a keyboard ever again."

quote:
Matt:
"What do I say about my friend? I don't know how to deal with this, it's a case of 'I was just talking to him.' Mike and I came up through the comics ranks together, and we used to trade sketches of each others' childhood superhero characters. He genuinely loved drawing comics, and his absolute joy in creating shone in books like 'Tellos,' where I used to call him and beg him to do a children's book because of the charm and wit he infused his animal characters with. I could go on and on about how he was a master of the artform blah blah, but none of that matters. He loved to draw, and now he's gone. And it makes me want to draw twice as hard to remember and honor him.

"I miss my friend."

My new wallpaper. This is the cover for the oversized TELLOS HC referenced on Ringo's last blog update. I have to watch IST for when this comes out. [Frown]

I actually broke down into tears when my fiancé told me the news... Mike was an inspiration to me during my years at art school, during which time TELLOS was one of my absolute favorite comics, and I was watching him over on Deviant Art just within the last few months. He'd uploaded so many great pencil pieces there, and not just of Spidey, the FF and TELLOS characters. He was a great guy to his fans and he was incredibly nice to my fiancé some years ago at San Diego Comic Con. We are fortunate enough to have one quick original sketch from him of one of my fiancé's original characters here at home. I feel terrible for Todd Dezago because they were good friends and an awesome creative team...

Godspeed, Mike. The art world was dealt a serious blow with your untimely passing. [Frown]
