quote:Marvel Comics has confirmed for THE PULSE the creative team behind the upcoming Alpha Flight series. The writer is none other than Scott Lobdell, who had worked on the first Alpha Flight line. Joining him is penciler Clayton Henry, inker Mark Morales, letterer Richard Starkings, with Avalon Studios on the coloring. Edited by Mike Marts, the March debuting series begins with Sasquatch's search for new Alpha Flight.
Lobdell teased, "SASQUATCH goes about trying to form a new team in an effort to save ALPHA FLIGHT from certain death. It turns out to be a more complicated 'membership drive' than Walter anticipated...but here is a scientist who experimented on himself (!?!?)...and is not someone who settles for a no at first blush."
Check back later for a full interview with Lobdell on this project.

Sounds like the plot is stolen directly from GIANT-SIZE X-MEN 1.
I'm afraid Lobdell's writing never has "done" it for me, in fact I dropped all the X-titles during his tenure.
I'll get the first issue for sure and judge from there, but if the story ends with "What are we gonna do with 13 Alpha Flighters?" I'll never look back!

As long as they don't look like how they're depicted in this month's X-Men, I'd be willing to check it out...(I mean, Sasquatch is wearing armor - ugh!)

The only question I have about the team we are shown is why is there a man in nappies (diapers)?
It's really not a good look y'know....
I quite liked the quirky humour that Lobdell injected into his comics so I'm going to give this a shot....

Call me a traditionalist, but that lineup doesn't do much for me so far. I mean, if you don't have Northstar, Aurora and Snowbird, at least, then it just isn't Alpha Flight.
However, I'm sure that I'll at least give it a try. Maybe they'll surprise me

Unless Scott Lobdell has improved several thousand percent from his first time around, there's no way I'd buy this unless one of my best friends recommended it to me AND bought me a few issues...

Do you reckon the girl in the picture at the front with the pink eyes could be the Purple Girl/ Persuasion?

quote:THE PULSE: Wizard said the series will be humorous like Formerly Known as Justice League. Why take the series in a funny direction?
LOBDELL: While I can't be responsible for Wizard's interpretation of my take on ALPHA FLIGHT, I don't see it as "humorous" or a "funny direction"...in fact, issue six is going to introduce a very horrific gut wrenching Sophie's Choice type decision into the Marvel Universe in a way that I don't think any other story ever has...I think.
Having said that, there is going to be a definite upbeat and slightly irreverent take that is probably not that much different than what Chris Bachalo and I did on GENERATION X...but in comparison to the cynical and nihilistic takes on most of the other characters and comics in recent years, I can see why some people might classify it as a humorous take. But owing less to do with FKAJL (which I was completely unaware of at the time I submitted my treatments) Joe Queseda relayed that he was amused by the more bombastic Stan Lee quality of the pitch -- the "everyone under the big top" feel! That more than anything is what I'm trying to convey with ALPHA FLIGHT: You like super heroes? Code names? Secret identities? Spandex? Saving the world? Hanging out afterwards? Then ALPHA FLIGHT will be a book you enjoy!
Hmmmmm... the wacky adventures of Alpha Flight... now THERE'S a top seller

I actually loved Henry's art in Exiles and it saved me from dropping the title. Looks like I may drop it after all to check out Alpha Flight. The line-up looks less than stellar. Nemesis is cool but what about Talisman, Heather and several others. I think I heard that Aurora is in an X-book currently. I was going to check it out just for her but I can't remember which title. Persuasion had purple skin so unless there's a coloring error it doesn't look like her. I'm disturbed by this new trend of heroes wearing normal everyday clothes -but its some old guy.
Now what's this about a mass slaughter in Weapon X? Who all was killed?
