Continued from Round 5 - Xben gets the next Q.

Having started this thread way, way back in 2004 (I think), I'm pretty stoked that it's lasted all the way to Round Six! Thanks all for playing, it's awesome getting to know everyone a bit more.

Here's a list of links to the others -

All right! First question in the new round...

For my birthday a few weeks ago which of these gifts did I not receive (or buy with birthday money):

a. LSH Archives #13
b. Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse HC
c. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus vol. 1
d. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus vol. 2
e.. a DVD of a film I don't really like that much
f. a DVD of a film I'd never heard of
g. the latest issue of The Flash
h. a new shirt
i. new pants
j. "The Paradoxes of Mr. Pond" by GK Chesterton
k. Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks vol 7 (TPB)
l. "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card
m. Actually, I received all of these - it was a good birthday

c. Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus vol. 1

l. "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card

Posted by Xben on :

Both incorrect. I received both - Jack Kirby I bought myself with birthday money, "Ender's Game" I was given, as well as its four sequels. I read the Omnibus, and enjoyed it. Haven't touched "Ender's Game" yet - my wife snatched it up first.

g. the latest issue of The Flash

Posted by Xben on :

Not it. My wife not only ventured to the comic shop to get it as a little extra for me, but also had to even track down the comic shop as it had recently moved.

Got that too. But I couldn't find it to have during a work-trip that I'm currently on this week! It's gotta be in the house somewhere...

e) Chocolate-Filled Pancakes

I haven't read everything I received yet, but I was pretty happy to get the latest Legion Archives so soon after it'd been released. I was also pretty happy to finally crack into the Jack Kirby material. My wife found the GK Chesterton book while I was away, so that should be fun too.

Xben, sounds like you're going to have some fun reading times soon. That's awesome, I know you're a big fan of the Jack Kirby stories [Smile]

No to both. We haven't had any birthdays celebrated at home recently, so no birthday noodles.

The chocolate-filled pancakes were one of the last dishes I made, but not the last.

Blaze also kindly reminded me that I neglected to add as a choice one of the last dishes I prepared - Chili Crab. But it still wasn't the LAST dish I made.

You got it, Xben. At the time this question was posted, the last dish I made was nachos with ground beef. The beef was cooked using my taco recipe, and I poured yogurt, cheese dip and salsa over the nacho mix.

You're up!

Lucky guess. How was MIB 3, Xben?

Okay, let's stick with fewer choices this time [Razz]

PS - Blaze doesn't know this, so feel free to answer, Blaze!

Kinetix is my favorite Legionnaire. But who is my favorite Justice Leaguer, my favorite Teen Titan, and my favorite JSAer?

Justice League

1 - Ice
2 - Doctor Light
3 - Wonder Woman

Teen Titan

1 - Argent
2 - Flamebird
3 - Kole

JSA

2 - Cyclone

Re JSA, I had to think hard on whether Cyclone or Stargirl was my real fave. But Courtney edged Maxine out because of her greater character development.

About Men in Black 3: Men in Black III: Entertaining, yet not Entirely Satisfying (and so not really surprising)

Um, a question.

Which is not true around me right now?
1. My wife is sleeping on the couch
2. The cat is sleeping on my wife
3. The heater is on
4. The Stargate: Atlantis DVD I'm trying to watch isn't playing properly
5. I can hear music coming from my kids' room
6. The room is a bit of a mess
7. The blinds are drawn
8. The clock is ticking
9. The laptop is in the lap
10. There are four lights on in the room
11. My boots are sitting carelessly in one corner of the room
12. There are three fish sitting in two bowls in the room
13. Or they are all true

Err, okay...

Today, I...
a. am sick
b. had a grilled ham & cheese sandwich for dinner
c. started to discuss Amazing Spider-Man with a friend, but didn't get to finish
d. saw a woman performing very impressive hula-hooping tricks
e. discovered that the city library has moved locations
f. sneaked a visit to the comic shop in the middle of some important errands
g. rode on a bus
h. hung up laundry
i. read a manga graphic novel / self help book about principles for finding a satisfying career

Nice Q hon. Among these I would have had to have guessed between 3, 4, and 6. Although given that I knew you watched 7 and 5 (and I know what you like watching most [Wink] )... I might have guessed 3 via process of elimination.

f. sneaked a visit to the comic shop in the middle of some important errands

I did do i - my wife bought it for me somewhere for $.20. It was a breezy quick read. I'm not really into Manga, so it was a bit unusual for me, but in my sickness it was an enjoyable read.

f. is the correct answer. I walked by the Comic Shop at one point, but didn't go inside.

Thanks for the well wishes, IB.

The manga art style can be quite jarring, if it's your first time reading.

Which of these have I not had any formal classes or instruction in (by formal, I mean learned from someone who was paid to teach)?

a) Krav Maga
b) Tae Kwon Do
c) Swimming
d) Muay Thai
e) Cooking
f) Arithmetic
g) Chinese calligraphy
h) Writing
i) Weightlifting
j) Pottery

Posted by Novel Ty on :

d) Muay Thai

e) Cooking

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Quis has it. All I know about cooking has been learned online, by experimenting, or through asking my grandparents and other people I know who like to cook.

For most of the others, it's just been one or two classes but always from someone paid to teach me.

You're up Quis!

1) Creative Writing
2) Yoga for Relaxation
3) Oil Painting
4) Divorce Mediation
5) Zumba
6) Conversational Spanish
7) Blogging for Business
8) Massage Therapy
9) US History From the Civil War to World War 2
10) Proust for Beginners
11) Attracting a Life Partner
12) Sailing
13) It's been so long since I took a class, I've forgotten what it was.

It has been a year or two since I last took a class, but I do remember which one I took,

I was looking at the catalogue of a local adult ed group for real courses to fake people out. Attracting a Life Partner was one such course. It was for women only. And was canceled. Oh well. Obviously (by now) I did not take that class.

I have not taken a Zumba class, although it looks fun. Novelty, Proust is Marcel Proust a French novelist. His monumental 7 part book is "In Search of Lost Time" (previously translated as "Rememberance of Things Past") I have never read any Proust myself and have not taken any classes about him or his writing.

My question is still unanswered.

I'm awful at all "traditional" art too. I think I'm just terribly sloppy.

I'll think of a question in the next day or so.

Which of these is foremost on the list?

a) Mongolia

f) Greece

New Zealand IS on the list, but if I had to pick just one, it wouldn't be it. Can't wait to go bungee jumping, and see that place where they shot part of Lord of the Rings (blanking on the name right now - I think it's Milford Sound?).

Greece is also on my list, but not the first one. I'm all stoked up to hit Santorini, Athens and all the temples though. And Greek food!

Re Iceland above, I'm mostly interested ins eeing the geysers and glaciers [Smile]

I adore ancient ruins (which is why I picked Cambodia to visit after graduation), and what could be more breathtaking than an entire lost city?

Machu Picchu is the main reason I'd love to visit Peru, but there are many others such as Chan Chan and Chavin de Huantar. I'd also love to see the Andes and the native festivals. The food is a great - with 8 different climates in Peru, there are a lot of dishes to sample.

Over to you, Quis!

My dislike of tomatoes is well known. But that is just the tip of the iceberg for this fussy eater. Among the following, which is the one food I will eat with no problems?

1) Cheese
2) Eggs
3) Squash
4) Peppers
5) Split Pea Soup
6) Green Beans
7) Tacos
8) Low Mein Noodles
9) Chicken Pot Pie
10) Cod Fish

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

I'm assuming you won't eat anything with tomato sauces either, so...

2) Eggs

Posted by Novel Ty on :

4) Peppers

Posted by Xben on :

8) Low Mein Noodles

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

IB, you are correct..... in assuming that I also don't do tomato sauces. So no pizza, no lasagna, no spaghetti sauce. And no ketchup either

As for eggs, I'll eat the white of a hard boiled egg, but not the yolk. So, I do have somewhat of a problem with eating eggs.

Peppers. Bleck! enough said.

And no to low mein noodles. I like my noodles plain with butter only.

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

3) Squash

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

The only way/time I eat squash is when it is a squash pie. Otherwise I don't touch the stuff.

Green Beans?

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

This one didn't last to the bitter end.

I do like green beans and have no problem eating them.

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

I was going to pick cheese, but since green is my favorite color...

I thought the correct answer would be a "basic" food, unlike Chicken Pot Pie which may contain many ingredients, and definitely not Tacos, which usually contain cheese and tomatoes [Smile]

Continuing the food theme...

I also used to be a picky eater, but am much more willing to try weird food now. And I eat lots and lots of veggies.

Which of these foods have I not tried?

a) Crocodile meat
b) Balut (boiled fertilized duck egg containing a partially developed embryo)
c) Bitter gourd (ampalaya)
d) Volcanic black eggs
e) Shark meat
f) Jellyfish
g) Dog meat
h) Kangaroo
i) Silk worm
j) Sea cucumber

g) Dog meat?

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Wow! You know me too well. I've never tried dog meat before (that I know of, anyway!)

The volcanic eggs were from Hakone, Japan.

Kangaroo and crocodile meat were in Australia.

SIlk worms in China.

Shark meat and Balut here in the Philippines; ditto sea cucumber and jellyfish (Chinese-style food).

Well, good on ya, Blaze, for the improvement.

Years ago, I gave in to temptation and bought an issue of the "Epi-Log" from the comic shop. This was a magazine that featured episode guides of TV shows. This issue featured two long-running police shows from the 1970's and 1980's that I used to watch (including a full page color photo of each on one of the covers).

What were the two shows?

(actually, as I double check, turns out one of the shows was also on in the 1960's)

Adam-12 and TJ Hooker

Neither correct, although you've picked two shows that started roughly at the same times as the correct shows. Both of the correct shows ran for longer than the same-time-period ones that you guessed.

Hawaii 5-0 and... Charlie's Angels?

Posted by Xben on :

The Older Show (that started in the 1960's) has been guessed correctly.

The newer show has not. It is definitely a police show, not a private investigator one (like Charlie's Angels). It debuted the same year as Cagney & Lacey and was part of, I think, the overall same trend in TV.

Hawaii 5-0 and Hill Street Blues?

Posted by Xben on :

That is it. And with that, big imposing color pictures of Jack Lord on one cover and Daniel J. Travanti & Veronica Hamel on the other.

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

What do you think about the new Hawaii 5-0 series, Xben?

Pugad Baboy is a comic strip about a community of obese people in Manila. Its popularity comes not from that, though - it's a pretty incisive and hilarious commentary on life in the Philippines (pop culture, the government, social issues, and a sprinkling of adventure and action).

Oh, and their mascot is an intelligent talking dog who drinks beer.

Which of these storylines have I not read?

1) 2078 - the Pugad Baboy residents are mysteriously transported to 2078, and see a Philippines that is quite different from the present day
2) The Malunggay Conflict - two neighbors go to war over a malunggay tree on the border of their properties. Somewhat of a satire on the Gulf War.
3) Ang Hiwaga ng Duenas - The Pugad Baboy residents visit the province of Iloilo, where they are attacked by various mystical creatures who want to eat them
4) Maidnappers - the Pugad Baboy residents must deal with the kidnapping of two of their maids - and one of them has a terribly sarcastic wit which can drive the most peaceful of men to violence!
5) Pirata - the talking dog Polgas befriends a Muslim pirate and breaks up a pirate ring
6) Oplan Paglalanse - a gang of vigilantes foils the money-making plans of the corrupt local police district
7) Col. Manyakis - a philandering soldier has the tables turned on him when his immediate superior turns out to have the hots for him!
8) James Bab - the local good-for-nothing finds himself in a world of trouble when he signs up to train as a secret agent
9) The Olongapo Caper - a fun vacation in Subic turns into a mission to rescue the captives of a human trafficking ring
10) Benigno Ramos: Bounty Hunter - what is an ex-con bounty hunter to do when his employers turn out to be hunting him too?

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

3) Ang Hiwaga ng Duenas - The Pugad Baboy residents visit the province of Iloilo, where they are attacked by various mystical creatures who want to eat them.

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Nope, I read that one. It's pretty hilarious - they take out the monsters with garlic pizza, and the true mastermind is revealed to be Lucifer, who is a screaming queen and prefers to be addressed as Lady Lucy.

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

8) James Bab - the local good-for-nothing finds himself in a world of trouble when he signs up to train as a secret agent

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Nope, I read that too. James Bab's secret weapon was a peashooter, and his clumsy attempts at spying got him mistaken for a Peeping Tom.

Posted by Novel Ty on :

5) Pirata - the talking dog Polgas befriends a Muslim pirate and breaks up a pirate ring

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

4) Maidnappers - the Pugad Baboy residents must deal with the kidnapping of two of their maids - and one of them has a terribly sarcastic wit which can drive the most peaceful of men to violence!

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Maidnappers is hilarious - the Sungcal family maid and the maid of their relative Gwen from the States are kidnapped, after they use Gwen's credit card at a gay bar.

The kidnappers almost off them both because the Sungcal family maid keeps insulting them with her biting wit.

Novel Ty has it - Pirata is not in one of the regular compilations, and I haven't been able to snag a copy of it yet.

Back to you, Novel Ty!

We have a winner. Novel Ty does all that work of whittling it down and Invisible Brainiac saunters by and nabs it.

I am working for Boston University helping with enrollment. Basically helping the students get new ids. The new ids store the student's fingerprint on a microchip. At their new dining hall, they need to tap their card and their finger on a scanner to have access. This is so one student with a meal plan can't "share" his/her card with other students.

Posted by Novel Ty on :

LOL, new ids? But they get to keep their egos and superegos? [Wink]

Some college students only have superegos. (and not in the way Freud meant superego)

Blaze started calling me vampire because my voice reminds him of the vampires on True Blood, apparently. And he can't do anything about it when he gets [Mad] [Razz]

I call him devil because we gave him flame powers in LMB lore, and because he's very naughty and always tries to get me into mischief. He's especially naughty when we cook - our prep time always doubles the recipe's time because we get awfully distracted. And like a devil, he's very horny! [Wink]

The guest of honor Michael is my latest great nephew, only four months old.

Maria is his mother (and wife of my nephew Jimmy), so she was there.

my great nephew Alex was not there though. (I didn't ask why)

All the remaining answers I am related to by blood, except for one.

Kiwi is pretty hard to get where I live, so I goble it up when I do encounter it.

Watermelon is a very common fruit and a great way to cool off on a hot day!

I have had passionfruit juice, but among all the fruit on the list, passionfruit is the only one I've never actually eaten (that is, chomped down on the whole fruit).

So, back to Novel Ty!

Keeping with the fruit theme, which 3 of these fruits did I have for breakfast?

A. Albany, to visit the wind farms

D. Doodlakine, for the concert at the pub
E. Esperance, to wind surf

I never knew there was wind farms in Albany until I researched for this question.

Doodlakine does have a rather famous concert at a pub according to the local travel guide, but I've not been there.

Jilbadji and Frank Hann are both way way out in the outback, and I don't think I'll survive there.

Never been to Coolgardie either.

Which means it's back to Xben. Believe it or not, the last time I was in Perth, I was so bored that I just drove for hours out into the outback, had lunch at the middle of nowhere and turned back again. Middle of nowhere just happened to be Geraldton...

I loved Sun Devils when I was young - I've never been able to get rid of the series in all the times I've cleaned house since then, even though I assume I would not enjoy it as much now as I did then. It was the series that put Dan Jurgens on the map for me - used to love that guy's penciling.

I did in fact play Talia, Bronze Tiger, Ra's and a bunch of League Elite, Man-Bat Assassins and League Assassins. It was impressive looking to have a huge swarm on the board, but my opponents JLA just cut through them like butter thanks to Green Lantern and the new Flash.

It's funny you all know me well enough not to pick any Marvel teams.

April 2008. It was a couple days after Pope Benny's visit, and already pics of him and W were up in the gallery.
5 c
June 1990. I thought I was stepping over a passed out homeless person, leaving the men's room. While waiting for my mom, the paramedics came and took him away... sheet over face. Weird that he plopped down and died while I was in the can.
8 d.
March 1991. Daddy Bush's motorcade went by, as I exited a building across the street, having left a congressional panel with then-Sen. Paul Simon (bow-tie guy, not the musician).

As a TA, Ibby, I do not make exams. But if I did... no matching, no multiple choice. Mostly essay; that's where you show your own thought.

Hear, hear to that. Multiple choice exams are mostly about pattern recognition, and rarely about understanding.

September 1991. It was a longer walk than I had imagined. It was a beautiful late afternoon; I lingered around until early evening. As an Arthurian buff, it was an amazing thing to do.
4e.
There was an underground tunnel system designed to facilitate evac and control in the event of a nuke war. This facility, long abandoned, was in the basement of another institution, sealed off due to asbestos contamination rather than security (it was all obsolete. If one followed one tunnel to its end, the doors were padlocked; i'd seen the other end previously without knowing where the doors went or why they existed).
6a.
I was a driver for a student trip, so all participants had m cell #. We had an agreed-iupon meet0up point, so i was not expecting a call. On the one night of the week the church is open and free to all, for the public to watch a formal mass, my phone went off! someone wanted to double-check the meet-up time/place.

almost done already! Next person should have it.

March 1991. I was hanging with some acquaintances from NYC one evening. We were walking across Washington, from east of the Capitol all the way to the LM. We decided at some point to start singing the entirety of "Pink Floyd - The Wall." We were finishing up as we walked up the final few steps into the LM, and as we finished my peers let out a loud howl. We were pretty much alone there, but out of nowhere stepped a security guard, who ordered us all out.
7b.
Ihad a friend who worked in the PR dept for then-gov Mario Cuomo. Myself and another friend got to attend the office Xmas party (Mario wasn't there).

Go, Ibby!

You sure had a lot of colorful trips, Kent!

Which of these is false?

1) A piece of scrap metal fell off a truck and blew out the tires of the van I was driving in Los Angeles.
2) I pushed Blaze off a tree in Subic Bay, Philippines.
3) I snuck into a temple in Hanoi, Vietnam, after midnight during their mid-Autumn Festival.
4) A cashier laughed at a joke I made in Philadelphia.
5) A local asked to borrow my workout book in the Maldives.
6) I got to hold an Arctic fox while visiting an ice city in Harbin, China.
7) A local asked to take me home in Jakarta, Indonesia.
8) I spent about a week each living in college dorms in both New York and Washington D.C.
9) A deer bit me in Nara, Japan.
10) I met up with an old college classmate in the burial caves of Sagada, Philippines.
11) I got splashed on by a giant catfish in Lake Tonle Sap, Cambodia.
12) I rubbed guano on my ex-girlfriend's shoulder in the Biak-na-Bato caves, Philippines.
13) I argued with a waitress who took my ginseng chicken away before I was done in Seoul, South Korea.
14) Since none of my companions were brave enough, I ended up doing the reverse bungy in Singapore with two total strangers.
15) I ended up babysitting two kids while seeing the terracotta warriors in Xian, China.

That is true. I guess it got mad I didn't feed it a cookie right away. Luckily, it bit me through my shirt and jacket, which I promptly poured alcohol on.

That is true, though not strictly an argument. I merely rebuked her gently - but boy was she in a hurry!

That is true; I visited during the festive ceremony and a local invited me to have a drink and snacks with him by the lake. We were quite adventurous and snuck into the temple on the lake for a quick look.

Also true. Everyone said they were too full. Luckily, there were 2 other groups of people with only one person in each group who wanted to ride. I enjoyed the hell out of it anyway.

All right, who has always been my favorite DC (non-Legion) and favorite Marvel female superheros? You have to guess both. (With the Marvel ones, there are actually two possibilities I'd accept)

Batgirl (Barbara Gordon)
Black Canary
Elasti-Girl
Katana
Starfire
Supergirl
Vixen
Wonder Girl (Donna Troy)
Wonder Woman
Zatanna

Black Widow
Captain Marvel (Monica)
Invisible Girl / Woman
Ms. Marvel
Phoenix
Rogue
Shadowcat
She-Hulk
Storm
Wasp

But not enough to push him off a tree. Maybe from a 338-meter building. We plan to bungy jump at Macau Tower.

Nope for both. Hints: two of my characters would be normally considered to be far less powerful than the ones you have guessed here, IB. The third would probably be seen as more powerful.

IB, I thiink Xben means that of Katana, Batgirl, Shadowcat, and Black Widow, one of those is correct.

So my guess

Katana
Captain Marvel (Monica)

Thanks Quis, I understood. I picked two of them so we could more easily figure out which of the four is the correct one.

Posted by Xben on :

I knew that's what you were after, IB, so I figured I'd wait for another guess to be made before I responded.

As it is, I can say that in this previous round of guesses, there are no correct answers!

So much for trying to make it more difficult...

Black Widow

Black Canary

And you have it. The other acceptable character would have been Phoenix.

A Black Widow and Black Canary team-up would have been really interesting.

My favorite video game series is the Suikoden series (of which Blaze knows almost nothing about [Wink] ). My all-time favorite in the series is Suikoden 2. Player parties consist of up to 6 characters. Can you name my top 3 favorite party members in that game? Hero of the game is excluded, for obvious reasons.

Don't worry, I'll eliminate wrong choices pretty quickly; more than one at a time for the first few guesses.

a) Nanami
b) Viktor
c) Georg
d) Ayda
e) Eilie
f) Rina
g) Bolgan
h) Tengaar
i) Oulan
j) Jeane
k) Killey
l) Clive
m) Mukumuku

p) Flik
q) Miklotov
r) Tomo
s) Sierra
t) Kahn
u) Lorelai

y) Anita
z) Hai Yo

In case anyone wants to put a face to the name, here's a character guide.

Sorry hon, wild guess. Don't know a tad about Suikoden.

s) Sierra
v) Viki
z) Hai Yo

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

I know [Razz] No need to be sorry at all hon.

Although the vampire Sierra is a gifted lightning magician, and her physical attacks do 50% more damage automatically, she's not among my faves.

Although Viki is one of only two of the 108 Stars of Destiny to appear in all 5 games, she's more useful in the 3rd and 5th installments. She's too slow in the 2nd.

Hai Yo is the army chef, and is a hilarious character in battle because he does this jumping dance thing... but he's not a fave.

Posted by Blaze on :

How about:

a) Nanami
f) Rina
p) Flik

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Nanami is the hero's adoptive sister, and is one of the fastest characters in the game. She's also one of the most awesome and fun characters - think a ditzier version of Kinetix. However, since she is a required party member, I gravitated towards some optional fighters.

Blue Lightning Flik has both high strength and great magic... but I find him a bit too overused.

Rina is a fortune-telling magician with some of the best magic in the game, and can attack long-range via her playing cards... and she IS one of my favorite characters!

So that's one down [Razz]

b) Viktor - the Bear, a physical powerhouse with a talking sword
c) Georg - veteran general of a half dozen wars
d) Ayda - forest ranger and sharpshooting archer
e) Eilie - spunky knife-thrower with a crush on the hero
f) Rina - sexy fortune-telling magician (correct answer)
g) Bolgan - fire-breathing circus strongman
h) Tengaar - magician who pushes her poor boyfriend around
i) Oulan - female bodyguard who's a brick wall
j) Jeane - sexy, mysterious and ageless rune mistress
k) Killey - treasure hunter with a unique fashion sense
l) Clive - mysterious gunman on a quest to hunt a woman
m) Mukumuku - lovable flying squirrel
n) Yoshino - dutiful wife and naginata-wielder
o) Simone - vain narcissistic male aristocrat who throws roses
q) Miklotov - hot-blooded and compassionate knight
r) Tomo - young spear-fighter who's a master of defensive magic
t) Kahn - vampire hunter and life magician
u) Lorelai - tough treasure hunter who outsmarts most of her male competitors
w) Luc - young wind magician who's the most powerful in the game
x) Valeria - general and master fencer; rival of anita
y) Anita - master fencer and rival of Valeria who'll go home with anyone when she's drunk

In case anyone wants to put a face to the name, here's a character guide.

Just to clarify, the final answer must include all THREE characters!

Although Simone's weapon - a bouquet of roses - cracks me up every time he uses it, his lack of magical versatility (only able to use one type of magic at a time, whereas Rina, for example, can use three) doesn't make him a favorite.

Valeria is one of the most powerful physical fighters, with a unique ability that lets her deal double damage every round... but she is not one of my top faves.

Ok, here's another try:

f) Rina - sexy fortune-telling magician
j) Jeane - sexy, mysterious and ageless rune mistress
k) Killey - treasure hunter with a unique fashion sense

Although Jeane is probably my favorite player character of all time, and almost never left my party... she wasn't playable in Suikoden 2! But she was a fixture in my party for the 4th and 5th games, partly because of her amazing lightning magic affinity, sky-high magic stat, mysterious and alluring background, and her sexy voice and costume. Alas, since she's not playable in Suikoden 2... she's not a correct answer.

Killey is one of the best characters in the game hands-down; he comes with three free rune slots allowing you to customize him to become the games single best damage dealer (only a handful of characters have three free rune slots and the stats to abuse them). But he's not that big a fave either.

Clive is one of the fastest, and has such high accuracy that he not only hits multiple enemies a lot, but also critical hits loads. With the right setup he can decimate an entire enemy party by himself... but he's not a top favorite.

Anita is another favorite because she's almost as powerful as Valeria AND has better magic... but she's not a top fave, either.

f) Rina - sexy fortune-telling magician
h) Tengaar - magician who pushes her poor boyfriend around
m) Mukumuku - lovable flying squirrel

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Tengaar is equal in magical power to Rina; I like having both of them in my party where Tengaar holds Earth and Fire magic while Rina uses Lightning and Water. But Tengaar's not quite a top fave.

Mukumuku (and his posse!) are adorable and it's hilarious beating the final boss with them... but they are so not among my faves.

Posted by Blaze on :

f) Rina - sexy fortune-telling magician
e) Eilie - spunky knife-thrower with a crush on the hero
r) Tomo - young spear-fighter who's a master of defensive magic

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Tomo is one of the top Earth magicians in the game and hits surprisingly hard. Whenever she's in my party I use her as my main defensive spellcaster... but she's not a top fave.

Eilie is a good long-range fighter with enough speed and accuracy to critical hit and multi-hit a lot; she usually ends up killing from 2 to 4 enemies per round in my game. She's also good with Fire magic... and she is also one of my favorite characters!

That leaves one character to guess.

Posted by Blaze on :

d) Ayda - forest ranger and sharpshooting archer
u) Lorelai - tough treasure hunter who outsmarts most of her male competitors
w) Luc - young wind magician who's the most powerful in the game

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Ayda is fast and almost as good as Eilie is, and another common member of my party, but she's not a top fave.

Lorelai has stats generally comparable to Eilie, though her more powerful weapon allows her to do a bit more damage; but not a top fave.

Luc is amazing; his magic stat is roughly twice the average and while most people can only use their most powerful spells once, he can go up to 3 or 4 times! But I don't usually go for pure magician types so he's not a top fave either.

Posted by Blaze on :

I have an inkling that it's Kahn although i posted 3 answers

b) Viktor - the Bear, a physical powerhouse with a talking sword
q) Miklotov - hot-blooded and compassionate knight
t) Kahn - vampire hunter and life magician

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Viktor's cool and is a lot smarter than his gung-ho attitude would have you think... but he's not one of my top 3. Maybe top 5...

Miklotov's another good character and a solid rock (can equip some of the best armor in the game)... but not quite up there.

Kahn is a great character, decently strong and one of the best life magic users in the game... but not a top 3 fave either.

this game is making me sad :/

g) Bolgan - fire-breathing circus strongman

i) Oulan - female bodyguard who's a brick wall

n) Yoshino - dutiful wife and naginata-wielder

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Why are you sad? [Frown] you don't have to know everything about me right away...

One of those is right [Wink]

And it's not fire-breathing Bolgan, who's slow as mud, can't hit the side of a barn and has no magical ability whatsoever.

Posted by Blaze on :

i) Oulan - female bodyguard who's a brick wall

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Oulan is as strong as most men in the game, and has an ability that lets her deal double damage every round. She's also a brick wall against both physical and magical attacks, and when equipped properly can laugh off even the most powerful...

and she is one of my top faves [Wink]

a. Tyrion Lannister - the imp
b. Cersei Baratheon - Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros
c. Jaime Lannister - the Kingslayer
d. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell
e. Daenerys Targaryen - exiled princess of the Targaryen dynasty

I know next to nothing about Game of Thrones, but...

f. Lord Petyr Baelish - Master of Coin in King Robert Baratheon's Small Council
l. Robb Stark - eldest son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark and the heir to Winterfell
z. Ser Loras Tyrell - known as the "Knight of Flowers"

Posted by Blaze on :

Lord Petyr Baelish is a trickster and a coward. He will stop at nothing to further his own interests--power and wealth. I don't like the man.

Robb Stark's sense of duty and responsibility are admirable. In his early teens, he became Lord of Winterfell, waged and won many battles, and proclaimed King in the North. Not one of my favorites though.

Ser Loras Tyrell is an excellent knight. He is stunningly handsome, vain, and cunning. Loras is in a secret relationship with Renly Baratheon and eventually supported his claim for the throne. He is indeed my favorite!

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

ahh, one down [Razz] not surprised you picked the handsome gay knight [Wink]

Hm...

x. Eddard "Ned" Star
h. Jon Snow
c. Jaime Lannister

Posted by Blaze on :

x. Eddard "Ned" Stark is an honest and honorable man, a welcome sight in King's Landing's dirty politics. His demise began with the death of King Robert Baratheon. He is not a favorite.

h. Jon Snow is the bastard son of Eddard Stark who eventually took the Black. Not a favorite either.

c. Jaime Lannister is all brawns but no brains. His sight reminds me of a "prince charming" they often say in fairy tales. Jaime is in an incestual relationship with her sister, Cersei Lannister. Not my favorite.

I'll guess:

e. Daenerys Targaryen
g. Ser Jorah Mormont
u. Jeor Mormont

So the remaining choices:

a. Tyrion Lannister - the imp
b. Cersei Baratheon - Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros
d. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell
e. Daenerys Targaryen - exiled princess of the Targaryen dynasty
g. Ser Jorah Mormont - exiled knight
i. Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock
j. Ser Davos Seaworth - also known as "The Onion Knight"
k. Bran Stark - second son and fourth child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark
m. Sansa Stark - first daughter and second child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark
n. Arya Stark - younger daughter and third child of Lord Eddard and Catelyn Stark of Winterfell
o. Joffrey Baratheon - Crown Prince of the Seven Kingdoms
p. Samwell Tarly - eldest son and former heir of Lord Randyll Tarly, is a new recruit to the Night's Watch
q. Sandor Clegane - nicknamed "The Hound"
r. Margaery Tyrell - only daughter of Lord Mace Tyrell
s. Stannis Baratheon - Lord of Dragonstone, the elder of Robert Baratheon's younger brothers
t. Melisandre - A priestess of R'hllor in service to Stannis Baratheon
u. Jeor Mormont - 997th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch
v. Shae - young camp follower in whom Tyrion Lannister takes particular interes
w. Lord Varys - eunuch known as "The Spider"
y. Robert Baratheon - became king of the Seven Kingdoms after leading a rebellion against Aerys II Targaryen

Posted by Blaze on :

e. Daenerys Targaryen - she simply wants to return to her "home" and reclaim what is rightfully hers. With the aid of her 3 dragons and loyal followers, she might just be able to. I like her but not among the top 3.

g. Ser Jorah Mormont - exiled knight and the first member of the Queensguard of Daenerys Targaryen. Not a favorite.

u. Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Knight's Watch. Not a favorite.

d. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell
k. Bran Stark - second son and fourth child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark
m. Sansa Stark - first daughter and second child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark

Posted by Blaze on :

d. Catelyn Stark - she had her share of mistakes but I forgive her, she's just being a true mother to her children. Not a favorite.

k. Bran Stark - crippled yet wise beyond his years. I like him but not enough to belong to the top 3.

m. Sansa Stark - the good daughter who is fascinated by the glitz and glamour of the court and of the capital. She dreams to be the queen of the realm one day. Not a favorite.

a. Tyrion Lannister - the imp
t. Melisandre - A priestess of R'hllor in service to Stannis Baratheon
v. Shae - young camp follower in whom Tyrion Lannister takes particular interes

Posted by Blaze on :

a. Tyrion Lannister - full of wit. what he lacks in physical appearance, he makes up for intellectual prowess. he learned to accept the bitter truths and made it his sword and shield against his enemies. yes hon, he is a favorite!

t. Melisandre - skilled in the dark arts. i don't like her.

v. Shae - the prostitute. not a favorite.

Yay! 2 down.

j. Ser Davos Seaworth - also known as "The Onion Knight"
p. Samwell Tarly - eldest son and former heir of Lord Randyll Tarly, is a new recruit to the Night's Watch
q. Sandor Clegane - nicknamed "The Hound"

Posted by Blaze on :

j. Ser Davos Seaworth - a smuggler and a trusted adviser to Stannis. Not a favorite.

p. Samwell Tarly - bullied for being a fat and coward boy. He has no interest in fighting but has been a reliable aide to Maester Aemon. Not a favorite.

q. Sandor Clegane - his burned face was due to his brother's ill temper during their childhood. Not a favorite.

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

n. Arya Stark - younger daughter and third child
r. Margaery Tyrell - only daughter of Lord Mace Tyrell

Choices:

b. Cersei Baratheon - Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros
i. Tywin Lannister - Lord of Casterly Rock
n. Arya Stark - younger daughter and third child of Lord Eddard and Catelyn Stark of Winterfell
o. Joffrey Baratheon - Crown Prince of the Seven Kingdoms

Yay! Glad I guessed right ^^

Okay, going back to Suikoden then...

Each Suikoden game has 108 characters, so there are lots of questions to be asked [Razz]

Which of these Suikoden 2 characters is my least favorite in battle?

a) Shiro - the white wolf
b) Bob - the werewolf with a gruff exterior and shy interior
c) Abizboah - the giant kraken
d) Hoi - the impersonating thief
e) Millie - she keep a giant man-eating groundhog as a pet!
f) Chaco - the winged teen
g) Sigfried - pervy unicorn
h) Gadget - the intelligent robot
i) Nina - the lovestruck school girl
j) Sasuke - the speedy young ninja
k) Karen - the shy dancer with a seemingly dual personality
l) Gabocha - the hero-worshipping Kobold

Posted by Novelty on :

g) Sigfried - pervy unicorn

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Sigfried (yes, the name is spelled that way) is fairly strong, has good magic and an affinity for lightning. Though he takes two spots in your party and ultimately isn't the most optimal use of said slots... he isn't my least favorite fighter.

Posted by Novelty on :

h) Gadget - the intelligent robot

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

Although Gadget has a strong physical defense, his other stats are mediocre and his magic is nonexistent. He can't equip armor, use items, or use magic... and thus he is my least favorite fighter.

Over to you, Novel Ty!

King Kong - Giant gorillas are always fun!

Elmo is probably my least favourite on that list.
Kong is nice, but not my favourite either.

I've continued to read the Adventures-era to my three daughters. We just finished "The Super-Stalag of Space" two parter. Three questions, one for each daughter:

1. Which Legion "tragedy" does my oldest daughter (age 10) regularly express her hope that it will be undone?
a. The loss of one of Triplicate Girl's bodies
b. Bouncing Boy losing his powers
c. Star Boy's expulsion
d. The loss of Lightning Lad's arm
e. The Super-Sacrifice of Kid Psycho!

2. Who is my middle daughter's (age 8) favorite character?
a. Saturn Girl
b. Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel
c. Light Lass
d. Dream Girl
e. Sun Boy

3. My youngest daughter (age 6) was pretty freaked out by the death of Weight Wizard in the Super-Stalag story (he's the guy who gets eaten by a plant).
a. True
b. False

Winner must get all 3 correct.

Posted by Novelty on :

a. The loss of one of Triplicate Girl's bodies
d. Dream Girl
a. True

Posted by Xben on :

Not correct.

The loss of one of Triplicate Girls' bodies is not what my oldest regularly talks about hoping will be undone.

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

1. e. The Super-Sacrifice of Kid Psycho!

2. c. Light Lass

3. b. false

Posted by Novelty on :

d. The loss of Lightning Lad's arm
d. Dream Girl
a. True

Posted by Xben on :

Incorrect. Light Lass is not my middle daughter's favorite character.

I'm going away soon, away from internet, so I'm going to give some bigger hints.

So far, for Questions 1 & 2, nobody has guessed a correct answer.

Posted by Viridis Lament on :

1.
b. Bouncing Boy losing his powers

2.
a. Saturn Girl

3.
a. True

Posted by Xben on :

Not correct - but my hint from before is no longer true.

Posted by Viridis Lament on :

Seeing as you are trying to clear this one quickly I'll answer again....

b. Bouncing Boy losing his powers
b. Triplicate Girl / Duo Damsel
a. True

Posted by Xben on :

You have one out of three correct, which is less than the previous guess.

Posted by Viridis Lament on :

b. Bouncing Boy losing his powers
a. Saturn Girl
b. False

Posted by Xben on :

And that is it!

I don't think Bouncing Boy losing his powers is really stressing my daughter out that much, but she keeps talking about it.

Whenever there is any danger to Saturn Girl, my other daughter always threatens to refuse to read any more stories.

And the youngest one wasn't phased at all by the giant carnivore of a plant.

Adventure #350-351, with the return of Lightning Lad's arm, Bouncing Boy's powers, Matter-Eater Lad's slimness, and Star Boy and Dream Girl to the team should make them happy.

No, Cauayan is in a different province. There's also a Cagayan (province) in the north... and a Cagayan de Oro city in the south [Razz]

And I have been to Vigan, just for a day. I wouldn't mind going back, as the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with old Spanish houses.

I've been to Legazpi as well, to visit the almost perfectly cone-shaped Mayon Volcano.

I've also been to Naga, it was our gateway to the Bicol region. The food is spicy and hearty, and I had a blast wakeboarding.

I've been to Iloilo, and you're right about the "funnyness" since they have their own dialect that's pretty hard to follow. The seafood is inexpensive and GREAT.

I've been to Bacolod, known countrywide for its amazing BBQed chicken. The people there also have their own language and they have this very gentle, lulling way of talking.

I've been to Baguio. My family used to go there every year for the cool weather (sadly, it will never be cold enough to snow in the Philippines, but cold is relative for us - anything below 15 degrees is quite chilly). I always loved picking pine cones, blowing on dandelions, hiking, eating strawberries and roasting hotdogs in the fireplace.

I've been to Cebu, a couple of times on vacation, once on a week-long activity where we built houses for Gawad Kalinga, and once on business. They have great food too!

Novelty has it, as I have never been to Davao. Hoping to go next year.

Napaka misteryoso mo naman LOL. So are you a Brunei native, or a Filipino who lives in Brunei?

Bagaimana cuaca brunei sekarang?

So I'm guessing you went direct to Siem Reap when you hit Cambodia. Did you also hit Ho Chi Minh City and Luang Prabang, while bypassing their countries' respective capitals?

Lessee... one of my life goals is to eventually visit all UNESCO World Heritage sites and all the countries in the world. Well, at least all the countries in the world...

I've been to all these UNESCO sites except 3. Which are they?

a) Vigan
b) Statue of Liberty
c) Sydney Opera House
d) Nara Deer Park
e) Tubbataha Reefs
f) Puerto Princesa Subterranean River
g) Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor (and its Terracotta Warriors)
h) Angkor
i) Borobudur
j) Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto
k) Kinabalu Park
l) Halong Bay
m) Independence Hall, Philadelphia
n) The Greater Blue Mountains Area

Nope and nope.

I've been to the Sydney Opera House. Alas, that was a time when digital cameras were not yet in vogue, so I have precious few pictures of that trip.

I've been to Nara Deer Park, and got bittn by a deer who really wanted the cookie I was holding.

I've been to the Angkor Archeological Park. To this day, that remains my most memorable trip ever. Climbing through those ancient temples (The Bayon Temple, Angkor Wat, Preah Khan, Ta Prohm, Pre Rup, Neak Pean...) almost made me wish I'd taken up Archeology instead.

Nope. I've been to Independence Hall, though sadly my picture of the Liberty Bell isn't all that good. I do have a nice souvenir though.

Remaning choices:

a) Vigan
b) Statue of Liberty
e) Tubbataha Reefs
f) Puerto Princesa Subterranean River
g) Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor (and its Terracotta Warriors)

Nope. I've been to the charming town of Vigan with its tastely fried meat pastries and old-style Spanish houses and cobblestone streets. Spent just half a day there, and would love to go back.

I have also been to the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. Was tempted to play bowling with the Warriors, but I don't think they'd be happy about that!

Remaining choices:

b) Statue of Liberty
e) Tubbataha Reefs
f) Puerto Princesa Subterranean River
i) Borobudur
j) Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto
k) Kinabalu Park
l) Halong Bay
m) Independence Hall, Philadelphia

Nope, I've been to the magnificent Lady Liberty. Didn't get to go to the top, but did get to see the museum and the grounds.

I've likewise been to the Rice Terraces, though sadly we only spent a few hours there on our way back from Sagada. Would love to spend a weekend there to soak up the local culture (and weather!)

I've been to the Great Wall. Sadly, a lot of visitors peed on the walls so parts of it smelled... but the sight itself was breathtaking.

I've been to the Greater Blue Mountains in Australia. My memories are a bit hazy but I do recall a long ride up the mountain in a cable car, and lots of green all around. Don't know why they called them "blue" mountains.

Remaining choices:

e) Tubbataha Reefs
f) Puerto Princesa Subterranean River

I've been to Halong Bay as well. The view and the caves are comparable to Guilin in China, though I enjoyed Guilin more probably because it was sunny when we went there. It was quite overcast in Halong Bay, though.

Remaining choices:

e) Tubbataha Reefs
f) Puerto Princesa Subterranean River
i) Borobudur

That is correct!

I've been to some of the monuments in Ancient Kyoto, and really want to return there as I've barely scratched the surface of what that rich city has to offer.

I've been to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River and enjoyed quite a boat ride through the caves (quite interesting that it's pretty much the only option that hasn't been guessed).

I'll be visiting the magnificent Borobudur and its nearby counterpart Prambanan just before New Year, while the natural beauty of Kinabalu Park is set for February 2013. Tubbataha Reefs will have to wait until I become a certified scuba diver, though.

Back to you Quis!

I loved the long neck of a giraffe. I also loved the ridges and end spikes of a stegasaurus.

Somehow I had a hunch I should choose giraffe over tiger.

Let's go for a simpler question -

Pick my favorite from each of the following two lists -

Rat
Ox
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Goat
Monkey
Rooster
Dog
Pig

(Yes, it's the Chinese Zodiac!)

And...

Air
Earth
Fire
Water

(Yes, the four classical elements!)

Fire
