OK, I am working on this puzzle. I have found the first lines of dialog for various fictional characters. Can you match the character with the dialog?

1) Ya think I'm a cowboy
2) Try again, Doc.
3) I've found it! I've found it!
4) I know you two don't care about being expelled, or Tom either, but what about Boyd?
5) Doesn't look like we have much of a choice, but I'll remind him.
6) Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own free will.
7) Before I come on board your vessel, will you have the kindness to inform me whither you are bound?

A) Scarlett O'Hara
B) Luke Skywalker
C) Superman
D) Victor Von Frankenstein
E) Popeye
F) Sherlock Holmes
G) Dracula

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

My guesses. The only ones I think I know for sure are Luke, Frakenstein, Holmes and Dracula.

1=E
2=C
3=F
4=A
5=B
6=G
7=D

I wanted to ring in on this, but I think LL has it.

Scarlett was talking to the Tarlton twin about on of their many brawls ands expulsions. Tom and the bookish Boyd are their older brothers.

I think was first time we hear Clark Kent talking is when a doctor is trying to draw blood for a physical.

The only one one the list I can imagine saying "Ya" is Popeye.

[Big Grin]

This is a really cool quiz, Quis. I'd like to see more like it!

It is hard to come up with some. For example Tarzan's first words are "I am Tarzan! I am a great killer!" And Jane's first words are "What does it mean 'Tarzan of the Apes'?" And Princess Leia's first words are "Darth Vader..." That kind of gives them away. Then it is a matter of tracking down the first appearance of the character.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

So, do you want to continue? I could come up with a couple for the next round. I don't think having seven, like you did, would be easy but maybe two or three at a time would be good.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

If you want to do some, go ahead.

Posted by walkwithcrowds on :

Good game Quis.
I only got the Dracula quote.
I agree with LL, 7 at a time would be too hard but, 2 or 3 sounds good.
I can't believe I didn't get the Sherlock Holmes one though.

Posted by KryptonKid on :

OK, just to keep this potentially great thread alive (and since I haven't gotten organized enough to follow through with what I really wanted to do):

"You ain't heard nothin' yet!"

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Is this from a movie, literature or comics?

Posted by Seth Gaterra on :

It's an appropriate reference, as those were the first words spoken in any feature-length movie. [Big Grin]

That was said by Al Jolson, in "The Jazz Singer".

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Ah yes. They did sound familar.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Found one more for people.

"Mother! Father!"

Posted by Xben on :

Is that Tom Strong?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

That is not who I am quoting

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Robin?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

yup.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

OK here is a Legion Their First Words.

Just a note: these first words are from the first lines of dialog within a story. I did not use any dialog from the cover or splash pages.

1) Hello there Superboy
2) Hi Clark Kent
3) Superboy, give my regards to Mr. & Mrs. Kent, your foster parents, when you return home
4) So this is where Superboy lives.
5) Ohhh Where am I?
6) *gasp* It's soaring out through the window.
7) I am your second super girlfriend and now look behind you for another astounding surprize
8) Of course I do...
9) Pardon my stunts Superboy to "lure" you here quickly I used my super strength for the horseshoes, my super cooling breath to freeze water, and my infra-red vision to bake the clay letters.

Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Mon-el, Phantom Girl, Saturn Girl, Shrinking Violet, Star Boy, Triplicate Girl, Ultra Boy.

In looking these up, I noticed that Shrinking Violet appeared 3 times in ten issues before she spoke.

And Brainiac 5, Bouncing Boy, Sun Boy, Colossal Boy, & Invisible Kid either mention their name or power in their first line of dialog.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

1. Cos
2. Garth
3. Imra
4. Jo
5. Mon-El
6. Vi
7. Tinya
8. Lu
9. Thom

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Click Here For A SpoilerTwo wrong. You mixed up Cos & Garth

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Click Here For A SpoilerWell, those were the ones I was least sure about. I couldn't remember the order of the scenes.

Posted by KryptonKid on :

Nass! You know if I see "spoiler" I have to look. (OK, #6 had me stumped anyway...)

[Smash] [PhantomGirl - Animated]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Ok here are the first words of a famous cartoon pair.

Character 1: [Character 2], they think we're moon people.

Character 2: They do? Then take me to your president.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

No guesses?

Hint: this first story of their's involved a cake recipe.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Pinky and the Brain?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Nope. Hehehehehe EDE didn't get this one in his first answer. [Smile]

Posted by Lance's realm on :

Rocky and Bullwinkle?

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Chip and Dale?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Click Here For A SpoilerLance's Realm is correct. It was Rocky (Character 1) and Bullwinkle (Character 2 - duh call me an anal retentive lawyer)

Posted by Lance's realm on :

Am I supposed to post something?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

No. You can if you want.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

OK here are three more. I won't give you a choice of who the characters are, but each is from a different work but are similar archtypes.

1) "Yes, he is rather cocky."

2) "You are very kind, but there must be some mistake. I have not killed anything."

3) "[A]nd what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations."

Posted by Lance's realm on :

I am pretty sure 3 is Alice, from "Alice in Wonderland." I have no idea about the others.

Posted by Lance's realm on :

After thinking about it, I am wondering if (2) is Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz."

Posted by Matthew E on :

Therefore 1. is Wendy from 'Peter Pan'. See what he's doing there?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

You are all correct. Although after posting this I was doing some checking to provide a hint if necessary. I found out that "Peter Pan" was not the first appearance of the title character. I do not know if that is the case for Wendy or not. So she may actually have something different as her first words.

Posted by KryptonKid on :

OK, so who is up?

[PhantomGirl - Animated]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Whoever wants to be.

Posted by KryptonKid on :

OK, to give 'er a bit of a shove...

First words (sans cover and splash page): "No closer, Legionnaires!"

Second words: "Fools! Did you think hiding in this century would save you?"

[TimeTrapper]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Mordru?

Posted by Xben on :

Those are Mordru quotes, but not his first. On the same page as "No closer, Legionairres" he has three other word balloons. The first words are, "Free! The sleep-prison is broken! My long unused strength returns!"

Posted by KryptonKid on :

I stand corrected, and missed a much better quote, too. As long as things are moving alone again...
It's yours, Quis

[Embarrassed]

Posted by KryptonKid on :

Thanks, Quis.

"What will a man get for killing this Philistine..."

[White Witch]

Posted by KryptonKid on :

A more complete quote:

"What will a man get for killing this Philistine and putting an end to his abuse of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?"

[PhantomGirl - Animated]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

I'd say King David. Although there is some who would say that he is not a fictional character and thus we will never truly know what his first words truly were. I assume the Aramaic version of "Mama"

Posted by Lance's realm on :

Saul maybe?

Posted by Xben on :

Definitely David, as Quislet said.

Saul's first recorded words would have been harder to guess immediately: "Let's go home. By now my fahter will be more worried about us than about the donkeys!"

Posted by KryptonKid on :

"Nom, ya ochi!"

Yes, good Quislet, twas David himself. And even fictional charaters have personal histories; thus, even flashbacks would not alter their first words, per se.

The Aramaic for "mama" would be something akin to the Arabic "Oomi".

("Ismi Rumsey, ya ochi. Alhumdulallah!")

[Cool]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

OK here is another for KryptonKid.

All are from the same source. Seven different characters. The quotes are in the order in which they appear.

1) "I should have known."

2) "How did you know it was me?"

3) "Nearly"

4) "Mom, geroff!"

5) "Gran, I've lost my toad again."

6) "Has anyone seen a toad? [Character 5]'s lost one."

7) "Ah Yes.[Character 3] our new celebrity"

Posted by KryptonKid on :

Sorry, I've been gone for awhile. That pesky Eros finally caught me with his dart. As far as the quotes go, sound's like Carroll ref.

[Love]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Nope, not Carroll.

So who did you get caught with?

Posted by KryptonKid on :

Brucie Wayne?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

KK,

What are you guessing Bruce Wayne for?

Posted by KryptonKid on :

You know what, I think I accidentally openned this thread on a different page, or something. I must have been looking for my toad...gives me something ne to think about.

[Tizzles]

Posted by Bevis on :

They're all Harry Potter characters. Let me see if I can work them all out...

1) Dumbledore
2) Professor MacGonnagel
3) Harry Potter
4) Ron Weasley
5) Neville Longbottom
6) Hermione Granger
7) Professor Snape

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Bevis,

I think you have them correct. I don't have a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone handy.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

And here are the first words of some X-men villains.

1) Your little tricks don't bother me Mastermind! Remember, I know they are only hypnotic illusions!

2) If it's a touch rube you're wasting your time!

3) You think a mere clumsy rush can affect me??!

4) Take my bags upstairs! And don't drop 'em!

5) The moment is at hand! All my months of preparation and planning shall now pay off!

6) There is no law against wearing a costume and you know it!

7) If the Toad is annoying the most lovely Scarlet Witch, I'll put a stop to that!

Think you know who said these first words without a list of the speakers?

The spoiler will have the list of speakers, although not in the correct order Click Here For A Spoiler Magneto, Vanisher, Blob, Toad, Mastermind, Unus the Untouchable, Juggernaut

1) "Legionnaires! Say your prayers! I warned you no vault could keep me prisoner!"

3) "You're the only Legionnaire who could come back from the dead... ...but even you can't stop me!"

4) "Z-Zis is all too fantastique!"

5) "I am _____! The dreaded sourge of my own galaxy--and I'm about to become just as infamous in yours!"

Sorry I neglected this thread. [Embarrassed]

Yes, yes it is. Your turn!

Posted by Xben on :

Did you mean my turn? I'll jump in anyway.

1. "Fool! Did you think an ordinary policeman could capture me?"

2. "I've been seen! Got to run!"

3. "I found it! The xxx xxx xxx xxx! An ancient map showed the location of the crypt of the xxx! Now its mighty power is mine to command!"

4. "The time has come! My power has reached its peak! My parents are dead...I have no friends!"

5. "Who are you?"

Posted by Xben on :

A hint: All of these quotes are from the same issue.

Posted by Xben on :

Just thought I'd comment, since obviously for over a 18 months, nobody has wanted to guess, that the answer to this one was the original members of the Fatal Five.

Posted by Lethargy Lad on :

No flights, no tights, no super-powers of any kind, but originally presented in four colors anyway.

1. "They... Mean to... Kill me! Nothing less will... satisfy them..."

2. "Why pick on me, Mister -- I've done you no harm!"

3. "Like a fragile sparrow. the blue and white winged Nieuport fluttered frantically under the lashing of my twin Spandaus -- until..."
