First up:

Movin' on Up the gospel inspired theme for the Jeffersons

vs

Welcome Back the street corner singing theme for Welcome Back Kotter

Posted by Re-AniMiner on :

Movin' on Up. It's more fun to sing in the car.

Posted by RTVU2 on :

Movin' On Up!

Posted by Stargazer on :

Movin on up...oh yeah

Posted by CJ Taylor on :

Well, at this point, my vote doesn't matter.
But I'm a Kotter fan.

Welcome Back.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Welcome Back

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

[Bump] to get some more votes. This round will end on Monday when I get back

Posted by Vee on :

Welcome Back

*just to make it interesting! [Big Grin] I like both of them anyway*

Posted by Zombie STU on :

I vote for Movin' on Up.

How could one not like a song about getting a piece of the pie? [Love] [Matter Eater Lad]

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Movin' on up!

Posted by MLLASH on :

This is a toughie.

But I'm going with WELCOME BACK. Very soothing melody.

Posted by Super Lad Kid on :

Movin' on Up!!

Funnest TV theme song ever. And everybody knows how it goes!

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

With 6 votes to 4 Movin' on Up moves into the top spot.

Getting more current:

The pulse pounding rock beat theme of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

vs

the soulful chamber musicesque going into a rock beat theme of Angel

Posted by CJ Taylor on :

Nerhereder really rocks, so make mine Buffy!

Posted by Vee on :

the theme song from Angel

Posted by RTVU2 on :

I'll go Buffy...

Posted by MLLASH on :

I liked Buffy's theme straight away... Angel's had to grow on me, but now I probably like it better.

So I'm a liitle torn on how to vote....

I'll go with Buffy since I liked it from the get-go.

Posted by Re-AniMiner on :

Neither one really does it for me, but I'll give Buffy the edge here.

Posted by Zombie STU on :

Same here. I'll give Buffy the edge 'cause she's cuter. [Wink]

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I really can't remember Angel's theme. Never did watch more than the first season and most of the final season.

So Buffy all the way.

Posted by Omni Craig on :

I've gotta abstain. I didn't watch either show. (no throwing tomatoes please)

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

With 6 votes to 1, the perky stakes the brooding.

Next

Somebody Save Me from Smallville

vs

Where my Heart Will Take Me from Star Trek: Enterprise

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Gotta go with Remy Zero on this one.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Can't vote... am not familiar with either.

Posted by Omni Craig on :

Somebody Save Me

Posted by Semi Transparent Fellow on :

I like Where My Heart Will Take Me.

Posted by Re-AniMiner on :

Smallville.

Not a fan of the Enterprise theme at all.

Posted by Zombie STU on :

I don't mind the Enterprise theme, but Smallville's is definitely catchier.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Somebody Save Me doesn't need any saving here.

Last battle before my vacation.

Theme from Bewitched

vs

Theme from I Dream of Jeannie

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I loved Samantha more than Jeannie but its Jeannie's theme that I can recall easier.

I Dream of Jeannie

I Dream of Jeannie

Darrin is more mysogynistic than Tony Nelson. At least Tony let Jeannie use her powers to fix dinner, clean the house, fix the magical problem. Samantha always had to ask permission to use magic to fix a magical problem.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Which is probably why I always wanted to rescue Sam. [Smile]

They should have had an in-show explanation for the switch in Darrins (and Dicks) -- like maybe Samantha's powers going awry during a witchy facelift...

Posted by Zombie STU on :

I vote for the I Dream of Jeannie theme... mostly because it's catchier and more memorable...

Posted by Vee on :

I can immediate recall the "Jeannie" theme. Had to think long and hard about the "Bewitched" one so I'll vote for Jeannie.

Posted by Re-AniMiner on :

I Dream of Jeannie.

Like Vee, I had to strain to recall the "Bewitched" theme.

[twitches nose beguilingly]

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

[Bump]

If I had to pick one in this I'd pick Bewitched for two reasons.

1. It's pretty.
2. To see Stu twitch his nose beguilingly.

If the Quismaster doesn't mind, I'll be bold and start another:

Gilligan's Island ("Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...")

vs.

The Patty Duke Show ("Meet Cathy who's lived most everywhere...")

Posted by Dev Em on :

Gilligan's Island. Fun theme that totally gives you what you need to know up front. Plus, my wife can sing Amazing Grace to it.

Posted by Xben on :

Of course Gilligan's Island is better known, but I'd have to go with the Patty Duke show - all about losing your mind in the face of a beguiling reality.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

I vote for Gilligan's Island seeing I know all the words and have never relly seen the Patty Duke show.

Posted by dedman on :

Gilligan's Island for me

Posted by MLLASH on :

Gilligan's Island!

Posted by MLLASH on :

THIS has got to be my all-time favorite though....

Posted by MLLASH on :

And THIS one has got to be a verrrry close second, although I barely remember the show... I certainly don't remember that blonde hottie! It was the song that never left me... [Smile]

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

As far as Gilligan vs. Patty, I'm going with Patty. It's not as well known, but any song that contains "A hot dog makes her lose control" wins in my book! [Big Grin]

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

Wow! Lash, I don't think I've seen that Makin' It theme since the show aired 'way back (*gulp*) over 30 years ago.

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

I guess Gilligan won that round. I'm glad to see that Dev's wife also knows about the "Amazing Grace" thing. You can also sing it to the theme from The Mickey Mouse Club.

For those who aren't familiar with the Patty Duke theme, you can see it here.

Moving on to the '70s:

The Mary Tyler Moore Show ("Love is All Around")

vs.

All in the Family ("Those were the Days")

Posted by Raging Bull on :

All in the Family -- best TV theme song sung by a bigot ever

I didn't truly appreciate it until I heard it parodied on The Simpsons.

Posted by Dev Em on :

All in the Family.

Nostalgia-my grandma was just like Edith Bunker. Did the get up from the chair and run thing. She was a bit brighter than Edith was portrayed however.

Posted by Ferro Man on :

Wait, wait, wait... was that six YEARS between posts back there? Blows my mind...

Anyway... Hearing Arch and Edith sing together (not paying attention to lyrics) makes me pick that one.

Charmed had a better theme song than Buffy or Angel.

Gilligan was once recorded to the music of Stairway to Heaven. It's an icon.

Now... for the ultimate 80's cheesey family sitcom battle royale...(song titles aproximated)

Family Ties (what would we do baby...without us?)

vs.

Growing Pains (show me that smile again)

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Family Ties wins because it ends with that "sha-na-na-na...."

Posted by Exnihil on :

Hmmm... Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams vs. B.J. Thomas and Dusty Springfield?

Sorry, "Family Ties,"... "Growing Pains," it is.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Family Ties. Superior on every level. Song and show wise.
