Close. There's two parts to the answer, one part of which has to do with why they were kept alive/moved from More Fun to Adventure, and the other part has to do with other Golden Age characters.

Really? I had no idea. But, then again, my GA knowledge is pretty sparse, and based primarily on the Showcase. Next you'll be telling me that whole society of archers from around the world isn't a core part of the GA mythos, either!

That's correct, Quis. In an early issue of What If...? it has the Patriot and the Spirit of '76, two minor old Marvel heroes, taking on the identity of Captain America after he went missing in 1945, and Super-Patriot did so more recently, and is now known as USAgent.
