Clearly, he knows, so I'll step aside if he DOES want to do it, but at this point it doesn't look like it... For example, for some reason, in this round I had it firmly in my mind that this was a human-looking character, and so have been wracking my mind trying to think of non-powered alien-colored humanoid allies of the Legion. When, if I hadn't had that notion, Dr Gym'll probably would have been an obvious answer all along. So yes, Dave - I am kicking myself. The relative thing threw me a little as he is Variable Lad's uncle. Variable Lad was never a full-fledged Legionnaire per se, but his statue is in the Hall, so he may have had some posthumous honours bestowed.
