To be used whenever you try to PM someone and you can't because they have too many PMs!

I try to keep mine right at 58 or 59, but it is hard, becuase I have kept so many I can't part with over the years (most of which are about various writing/art projects here on LW).

Tch. I can't believe it took so long for the obligatory PMS joke to show up. You slackers.

Incidentally, I'm having one of my quasi-annual, disorganized, attempt-to-get-organized-by-chucking-out-random-unnecessary-things days. (Anything to avoid another look at the job listings, right?) I found an old copy of Jack Kirby's Battle For A 3-D World, still with the glasses and everything. If anybody wants it, PM me. (No charge, unless you have to have it sent by Priority Mail or something.)

(For the life of me, I couldn't think of where else to place this. If you want it somewhere else, Mods, you know what to do.)

Bah! I PMed Abin this morning with like 5 paragraphs and it totally didn't go through, so when I 'back buttoned' it, it was gone. I'll never remember what poetic words I spoke!

My most cherished PM is the one from Nighty welcoming me from Legion World!

I have one saved that I'll never delete. It's from art regarding a chat that was happening at the time.

Does anyone have good suggestions re: old PMs, such as how to save them on your computer as a document or web page or whatever?

Instructions appreciated (if appropriate).

Hello Everyone,
My name is Sketch Lad... and I'm a PM hoarder! Well!... I might use those PMs some day! I know as soon as I delete one, I'll wish I had the valuable information it contained.

I'm working on it.

I've saved several in the past where I've had long conversations on Legion ideas or LMB ideas (with Lardy, Reboot), etc. A minor worry is that even though they're on a computer, I really should have them saved somewhere else too, as a back-up.

I just used the internet browser 'save as' function at the top right. They basically save exactly how they look when you're logged in except avatars, graemlins and links are no longer there.

When I save threads, the problem used to be saving them when there were multiple pages because the links to pages wouldn't work. So at the bottom left of the thread if you put it in 'printer-friendly view of this topic' and then save it, it captures the whole thread in its entirey, sans avatars.

Isn't this thread just going to end up as "the ALL-"CLEAR YOUR PMs Cobalt Kid"!!!! thread"? [Wink]

Like several other people in this thread, I'm a PM hoarder and have PMs going back to 2003 that I'm reluctant to delete. I *think* the only ones I've saved to my PC are the 21CL-related ones with Cobalt, iB, etc though.

That has happened to me a good-many times--so many, that I've gotten into the habit of highlighting and "Control-C"ing the long posts before I hit "reply"! [Yes]

Posted by Emily Sivana on :

I highlight too, mostly because of my horrible campus Internet. Though for LMB stuff, maybe it's time for an OCC thread?

Posted by cleome on :

I've still got Yk/Yellow Kid's PM from my first couple of months here. It's backed up in a folder in my hotmail box, since I always have PMs auto-backed there.

[snif!]

Well, Arrow, the "Getting Involved in Roleplaying" thread has become kind of the de facto thread for OOC editorializing, so I don't know if another is necessary. Plus, many of us enjoy discussing some points privately in order to plan some character bits and leave them as a surprise for the others to discover when they are unleashed.

I did my first 'OOC' thing today. Didn't really like it all that much! Weird.

Posted by Emily Sivana on :

I've been on RP forums with strict policies so alot of the LMB way is unfamilar to me. I much prefer it here, would not have walked away from the USH if it wasn't for the increasing strictness/politics, but it's hard not to let one's guard down.

Posted by Chief Lardy on :

Yeah, Em...we're pretty loosey-goosey compared to what you're used to. Heck, RP is just a small part of what is done on the MMB, for one thing. (It's my favorite part, though! [Yes] )

Posted by Dev Em on :

It has become my favorite part again after a long absence from it. I am having way too much fum with it.

I'm not a fan of those, I think they take from the story.

I'm gonna look back in ten years, get all into reading and then...what? oh a liner note.

I like the Shout box when quick notes are needed for the night

Cobalt, could you bump the last PM I sent you back, please? There's a quick question I want to ask.

[No, it isn't strictly a "clear your PMs" post, but NC's asked us not to start additional threads if we can help it. [Razz] ]

But .... I just started PMSing , ooops I mean PMing! I DON'T WANT TO CLEAR THEM YET!!!!!!

Far, I swear we do "know" each other on these boards...or at least from some of the previous boards...I've been around since the beginning, except for a brief period when I had no internet.

S’funny how we seem to be two nations separated by a common language. [LOL]

I didn’t mean 'I don’t know Dev', cause you and I go a long way back, I’ve sat over this side of the pond and watched (metaphorically) your kids grow up.

What I was trying in a ham fisted way was to answer the question “wtf is fum”
By saying I don’t know the answer, but it might be “Fee Fi Fo Fum,. I smell the blood of an Englishman” which is probably the most famous saying from the Jack the giant killer story over here.

Oy.

lol at myself.

On this side of the pond, too, Far, but we call the story "Jack and the Beanstalk" over here.
