I was wondering how much interest there would be in holding a Tournament? You know, giving characters point values and writing up exciting strategies to go with it. Then the players and viewers vote on whose strategy is best.

I'm posting here first because I am unsure what kind of Tournament would be successful. All Legionnaires or LMBers or simply mainstream comic book characters? A "standard" tournament or one where you could use Thanos if you wanted to?

I'd go with all Legionnaires, just so we're all already familiar with their powers.

Here's a link to the types of tournaments Legion World has had before:

Knowing Legion World, the type of tournament that would be successful is one where we simply vote for which character should win. I don't think most of us are really into crafting intricate strategies or so.

I need to know if power-level wise there is a difference between various versions of the Legionnaires before we get started (excluding of course characters such as Pre-Crisis Superman and Mordru who are not allowed in Tournaments.)

Hmmm...

Some Legionnaires' powers grew over the course of their realities. For example, Kinetix as a human was certainly less powerful than Kinetix as a terrorform. Postboot Umbra only displayed her darkfield's offensive capabilities under DNA. And Gates' teleportation range seems greatly increased in the Retroboot - we've seen him 'port across planetary distances, when in the Postboot it was established he couldn't do that.

As for versions...

Threeboot Phantom Girl's powers work differently from her Preboot and Postboot counterparts. Postboot Apparition also had the ability to disrupt technology by phasing through it.

Postboot Invisible Kid was the only version I remember being able to make up to two others invisible, and is also the only one I can remember who displayed partial invisibility.

Postboot Brainiac 5 was the only version who had an internalized forcefield.

Postboot Umbra was the only version whose darkfield acted as energy blasts.

Postboot Violet could grow as well as shrink.

The Postboot and Retroboot versions of Star Boy had full gravity control abilities, whereas Preboot and Threeboot could only make things heavier.

I'm sure there are several other variations that I'm missing, and many of these are arguable.

I like the idea of having around 200 characters, but I wonder if we want individuals or teams competing against one another? If we did teams of five each it would translate to 40 teams.

Later tonight I will post a list of characters.

I am not familar with Tournaments, so probably won't participate.

I think this forum is OK for a thread asking about an interest in having a Tournament, but the actual Tournament should be held in Spaceopoly.

You could also create a "planning thread" in Spaceopoly, for that matter. Many of the posters there would probably participate, and they can give you a lot of good ideas on how to run it.
