This thread continues from this one. I had a blast assembling the Hot 100 last month, and I think others enjoyed the results, too.
One aspect that makes this increased endeavor worthwhile is that there has been a lot more activity in the larger list than I had noticed while spot-checking it over the years. It's also fun to watch relatively new posters and even those who have been "dormant" for awhile suddenly make leaps and bounds. Such activity challenges those of us who have been around for awhile, keeping us from getting too complacent.
Of course, I need to reiterate that ranking posters in terms of post counts is done just for fun, for those like me who find an anal-retentive joy in compiling and analyzing such lists.

Random Hot 100 thoughts:
The winter blahs do their usual number on people's posting habits, as most of the long-term prolific posters, such as Kent, EDE, Lash, cleome, and Quis, don't even crack 300.
On the plus side, Sharky finally edges his way into the Top 40, and Legion Tracker -- after mounting a vigorous campaign for the last couple of months -- lands in the Hot 100, up an impressive 11 notches from last month.
Also, after flirting with the Top 50 for several months, Candelight finally dives right in, at No. 48.
Things are looking stable on the top end of the chart, but the unexpected can always happen. The positions from No. 41-50 seem particularly volatile these days.

What? It's true. My grandfather had a country store he closed down. I ran out of BB's. Carter's little liver pills fit and worked fairly well. had a tendency to curve a little more, but after about twenty shots, I had the curve ratio down pat.
good news is, didn't have to clean out the squirrels when I had'em for lunch.
*PS- one problem, they weren't metal, so the magnet didn't hold them in place. had to start high and drop to the target rather than raise to it.

I remember "Sundown" when it was a hit. I was 10 or 11 at the time. I always associate it with a particular vacation I took with my family. I have no idea where we went, but I remember reading JLA # 110 in the motel room. (Funny the things you remember.)

I'll gladly plead to being nuts, but it's a fairly simple process of rearranging the previous month's list and adding current post counts onto previous post counts.
The tricky part is rearranging things when a poster moves up a large number of positions, as LT did. I have to make sure all of the parenthetical numbers go in the right places!

Here are my thoughts on the April chart (which can be found on Page 19 of this thread, for those of you just joining us):
The month obviously belongs to Rick and Dev, who each posted well over 1000 times in March. Rick, in fact, posted more than any other poster within a single month since I've been updating these lists in September 2009.
For comparison, here are all of the other posters to break a thousand since then:
April 2010: Cobalt Kid -- 1074 Chief Taylor [now Exo-Lardy] -- 1105 cleome -- 1070 dedman [now dadman] -- 1178
May 2010: Eryk Davis Ester -- 1101
June 2010: Kent [a.k.a. Kent Shakespeare] -- 1148
July 2010: Outdoor Miner -- 1248
This list reflects movement only within the Top 40, as the Hot 100 was not being tracked until recently. Even so, it shows how rare the achievement of 1000 posts is (or, maybe, how some of us need to get out and enjoy the nice weather. ).
Not to be overshadowed, though, are the significant gains made by several other posters. future king will probably break into the Top 40 next month, and lil'rhino and Candlelight may do so before long. (rhino, I hasten to add, has been in the Top 40 before.) Power Boy (a.k.a., "So Close Lad") has been flirting with the Top 40 for quite some time now. Will April be the month?
Significant gains were also made by SharkLad (up four within the Top 40) and Legion Tracker (up a whopping seventeen). And cleome, whose rapid ascent is practically legendary, breaks into the Top 10.
All of this has made the LW charts much more exciting and unpredictable than they have been in the past.

My thoughts on the May list:
After the rampant posting of last month, many posters seem to have taken a breather. Certainly, those of us in the "Old Guard" (i.e., we who have been posting a lot for a very long time) have stepped back this month, making room for new blood (future king) and old blood that seems to have benefited from a transfusion (rickshaw1 and Legion Tracker).
Of concern, though, is the large number of posters with zero post counts. Note in particular the five in a row in the 20s (Abin Quank through Loser Lad, with Spellbinder breaking the run with a single post). Even the usually prolific dadman did not put in an appearance in April (and he's not even a dad, yet). While it's common for people to take a break from posting, it's disconcerting when so many friends disappear at once.
Overall, this list is more static than last month's, but that could merely be the calm before the storm. Summer beckons, after all.

I personally think we need a thread in which we are encouraged to post the word "penis" over and over again, being as creative or uncreative as we want to be in the process. I mean, what's more interesting than penises? The more indepth threads will return. I can't see any real harm in the admittedly silly and inane fun we were having. It injected some life and verve into these boards that seemed to be lacking for a while.

I've wondered the same thing, too, but I'm not sure what can be done about it. There's nothing preventing anyone from starting more in-depth discussions.

Em, a good rule of thumb on LW is "Keep it light". There is no policy against such things per se, but it might be best to leave more serious discussions for other boards.

In any case, the British Youtuber LittleKuriboh created Yugioh Abridged a number of years ago. He keeps having account problems, but I and many other people around my age absolutely love the humor. You have to watch some to fully understand. We don't have to do something like that, but some sort of project would be cool.
My LMB characters Fourth Wall breaking or Comic Awareness is influenced from Yu-gi-oh Abridged. Anime might also be the reason my heroes tend to have varying hairstyles. And villains I create almost always have white-hair.

Thanks for posting the above list, Lash. It's good to know that some old friends are active elsewhere.
Although the list might give the impression that posters are running for the door, it's been my experience in every club or organization that I've belonged to that people just move on after awhile. (And it took me a long time to realize this, in part, because the LSH always "hangs on" to everybody who ever joins. Even members who are demoted to the reserves don't go away forever. Except in the case of deceased Legionnaires such as Ferro Lad and Invisible Kid, few LSH characters drop out of sight for good.)
On the other hand, what's interesting to me in regards to the current Hot 100 is how the Top 40, in particular, remakes/replenishes itself. Five posters (Set, Sarcasm Kid, Sharky, fk, and Pb) have entered the Top 40 in recent months, whereas the list was static for some time.
The decade from 41-50 remains a volatile place, with three more posters now "bubbling" beneath the Top 40, as they say in chart lingo.
In the bottom 50, things look much more static, but that's typical in a large list. I find it encouraging to see posters like Legion Tracker and now Kid Charlemagne enter and move up the chart. There's more going on here than people just posting to get a higher position. Their level of activity shows a sense of commitment to this fan community.

Back in 2004 we did a little project where some of us (mostly me) emailed a few people to say "hey we're on Legion World, come join us!". This was mostly old LMBers we hadn't heard from in awhile. I know it's what brought Yellow Kid to LW.
Maybe we should do that again? Shoot out a few emails saying "hey, just want to let you know we're still around and would love for you to stop in" or something like that?

I thought people might enjoy a closer look at who's moving up and down the chart for the month. So, here's the Top 30.
As usual, the number in parenthesis denotes last month's position. If there is no number in parenthesis, the poster stays at the same position. A double dash in parenthesis (--) means that the poster was not in the Top 30 (or wherever I chose to cut off the rankings) last month.
Of special note is the entry at No. 6 -- Xben isn't even in the Hot 100. (He's currently at No. 102.) However, 186 posts is too impressive an achievement to ignore.
Someone might wonder if other posters below the Hot 100 have posted more than some of those shown here. It's possible. In truth, I monitor the chart only down to No. 110 (thinking, as sometimes happens, that posters in those positions might eventually make it into the Hot 100). Omission from this list is not meant to slight anyone; it is only meant to keep my workload a manageable length.
Besides, if anyone wants to be listed either here or in the Hot 100, there's an easy solution: Post more!

Some of these rankings are responses to certain threads. I recently the Hurt and Heal game, based on one of dedman's old games, which gave a major boost to the post counts of myself, Xben, Lardy, Reboot, Blacula and Dave Hackett this month.

What does Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen have to do with this, other than the fact that it was a #2 hit on the Hot 100 (I think that was the name of it then) Billboard chart and #1 for Billboard R&B Bestsellers in stores in 1958?
Some time ago, I read that Chuck Berry wrote the lyrics after seeing a teen at one of those multi-act 'calvalcade of stars' concerts running around getting the musicians' autographs, but not really paying too much attention to the MUSIC. (Sweet little sixteen/she just has to have/about half a million/framed autographs.) Hey, I've been there --- not with pop stars but school yearbooks. I got my friends to sign, and then it turned into getting everyone to sign. That didn't hurt anything, but having the kid who sat two rows over in social studies (who seemed perfectly nice, but I'd barely ever talked to) put her signature in my yearbook doesn't mean anything, either. Maybe instead of asking for a signature on the last day of school, I could have asked don't-know-her-well Julie how her weekend was on some gray Monday in January, or seems-nice Brian if he had read anything else by the author whose book he was carrying in March. Missed opportunities.

Once upon a time, back in the early days of Legion World, we used to have a post counter that displayed a poster's post total on each individual post. The mods decided to remove it, because it seemed to be encouraging spammy behavior in order to increase post counts.
We also used to start welcome threads for each new poster, but we had to discontinue them because certain people started bumping all of them in order to increase their post count, and now I really miss them.

I guess this kind of depends on what the focal points of this website is supposed to. I come from comic book forums where the focal points were articles and games (Tournaments, Mafias, Towers, you named it I probably have seen or ran it). You have not lived until you have argued to fine points of whether Superman-Prime or Vulcan could win in a fight. While I appreciate well written articles I prefer games (especially RPGs) more, which is why this eventually became my main forum.

It's not like LW is being choked with post-pumping spamminess. I don't see many pointless threads. Inane, for sure, and quite a few don't interest me, but not pointless. In each one, at least two people are finding something worth their time or the thread fades away.
Most nights, I don't go to a bar or the backyard and hang out with my buds. (None of my local buds know squat about Legion anyway.) I come to LW to chill, laugh, commiserate, and plague you guys...and sometimes to be serious about social ills and Legion stories.
Folks who are looking just for Legion/comic discourse can find it here. Even better is that you can also sit at the cool table and talk about anything. It's dope.

The funny thing about going back to college *as a teacher* is that I'm sometimes the oldest guy in the class (some of my students are older than I am), and that's a good thing! I'm the guy who's been through the experiences they are going through now. I survived and benefited from those experiences . . . and so can they.
Last night, my lit class went to the library for an orientation. A librarian took us through all the resources students have at their disposal for doing a research paper. (And students today have it much easier! Many of the sources are online via databases and the Internet -- a world of research at your fingertips!)
It reminded me of a similar library orientation I went on in (gasp) 1982. After the orientation, the professor turned us loose, letting us wander the library to find the sources we needed. I did the same thing last night.
That experience didn't mean much to me in 1982, but it took on greater significance in the following years, when I'd go to the library to do research on other projects. There's a sense of "You're an adult now. Here's the information to find what you need. Now go to it. Nobody's going to hold your hand. Nobody's going to check up on you. You are responsible for the outcome of your project. But you can also decide how you want to proceed, and you can budget time to goof off, if you wish."
It was interesting to pass on that experience to another group of students nearly 30 years later!
But, yes, teaching takes a lot of time and commitment -- and even sacrifice. It's not for everyone, but it is the most rewarding job I've ever had.

A lot of the most important people in my life have been teachers. I totally get what you're saying - and to you for taking that job.
Glad you liked the video. It was one of my theme songs while I was going through quarter-life crisis (glad my classmates and good friends were there to go through it with me!). What I loved (in hindsight) about college was that it was a time of great independence and exploration, but there was enough structure that you didn't get overwhelmed with everything.

Oops! I thought that that was an excessive number for Cramey, but, considering the hefty posting of some others, I thought it could be true (maybe Cramey was making up for lost time, maybe she's really getting into the new series, or maybe it was just wish fulfillment on my part).
In any case, I screwed up last month when I listed her post count as 12,023 instead of 13,023 (what a difference a single digit makes!).
It's corrected now, on both lists. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yay, Xben! It's always good to see a new face in the hot 100.
I'm curious as to whether Kid Charlemagne, or Lone Wolf Legionnaire (who is a few spots below the the top 100, but a more frequent poster than Kid C), will finally be the one to set a 1000 post minimum for Hot 100 membership.
