I've been a member of LWMB since 2003, but was on rec.arts.comics.dc.lsh. before that. Were any other LWMBers part of that list?

Excuse me but can you please direct me to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles?

I don't even know what that is (I've only been a LWer since 2007). Is it still in existence?

I remember that newsgroup, LT. I posted on there for about six months before I joined the DCMB.

I used to read it some back in college, and may have even posted a few times. At least a few of the frequent posters I remember are fans of the LW Facebook groups.

I posted there regularly back in the day. The lack of humor was stifling though. Everybody was so dead serious!!

I remember that, too. It also seemed that several days would go by before anything worthwhile was posted.
Compare that to LW, which has become a daily habit!

Yeah, rhino and HWL, that's how I remember it too. Last night I came across a 1999 e-mail I'd saved from that list, in which I was explaining my recent lack of participation because of the sniping and overall disagreeable atmosphere of the place.
It's good to be here now.

I seem to recall, however, that the reason the group was originally formed was that people on the regular DCU newsgroup were complaining about the volume of LSH posts, and so they ended up forming a seperate group for LSH discussion! So it must have been pretty active at one point.

By the time I had Internet access regularly, newsgroups were on their way out. The only comics-related one to which I ever posted with any regularity was alt.comics.peanuts, which was the most civil newsgroup I ever encountered (far more so than a religious newsgroup in which I was active for a year or two).

Ah the dustbin of obsolete internet protocols. Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP), havent been on since my ISP stopped carrying it.
The NNTP servers were hosted at each ISP, you would post to your local NNTP server and at some point your post would 'propagate' to every other News server in the world. In theory at least, NetNews traffic would often not propagate beyond your local server as it would time out during the uplink from your ISP to the next one.
I miss the old text-based internet. Are there any Gopher servers left?
