Well its gone past midnight so let Gigi and I be one of the first to wish all of you wonderful Legion Worlders A very happy and prosperous new year.

We are now sitting watching some very festive music and raising a glass of ten year old port to all of our friends across the world.

Thank you all for being such wonderful internet friends.

c'est la guerre. at least I didn't shell out a lot of dough for some big shindig -- it was just the local pub was doing an event - but few of my gang were there - and some of the people that were there weren't who I particularly wanted to see.

It's almost 2 AM here, near Detroit. The guests are gone, my parents have gone to bed too. I am the last one, behind my computer screen.

I had some calls from my family this afternoon (6 pm) when it was midnight in France.

A great evening, a great meal, 2006 is starting good.

To get technical, the decade of the "oh-ohs" (2000-2009) is over, but the first decade of the 21st Century (2001-2010) has another year. Semantics: They're not just people who can't get enough of Bewitched!

Exactly. And note that we much more naturally delineate the decades such as the 80s, 90s, 00s, etc. Nobody in ordinary contexts refers to the 210th decade, which of course doesn't start for another year.

With centuries we tend to think of them as the 19th, 20th, 21st centuries much more naturally, which leads to confusion, because these don't correspond to the 1800s, 1900s, 2000s.

1900 is the first year the 1900s, while it is the last year of the 19th century. 1901 begins the twentieth century, but it is the second years of the 1900s.
