I'm back! I left about 9:40 this morning because I wanted to have daylight for the entire trip back. I think the rest of the gang was going back to check for last-day deals!

It was cool meeting everyone-- at one point, there were 9 of us total.

Stu and Beagz (Allen) I had met previously.

Of course, Povvins & Quissy came by here for the trip down.

Miner is as laid-back and cool as his posts would imply!

Arthur/Yellow Kid is a bundle of fun energy!

Kent didn't get there until 2 days after I did, and I wasn't around him much but it was great meeting him. He has a genuine, friendly smile!

David (Stargazer) was a lot of fun. I drug him and Allen out to Cedar Springs Street Saturday night. "Left Feet" Allen wouldn't dance with me, but David had no such qualms!

I was going mainly for the nightlife, but I did not dare miss the LEGION panel on Friday.

I'm totally stoked for the new series now. Meeting Barry Kitson at the DC booth was an honor! Barry is VERY tall, VERY sweet and tres handsome. Mark Waid is a living doll crackling with good vibes, and should Stephen Wacker ever tire of comics, he should become a Playgirl model!

It's great the book is in such handsome hands!

Oh, and talented, and excited hands too.

I'm a bit worn out after that drive, and Pov and Quis will likely be by at some point tonight, so I'm going to sign off for now for come recoup time.

And I think I should point out that Legion World was mentioned at the panel! WAHOO!

Kewl! That's awesome! We're famous!

Sounds like a great time, Lash! I hope you guys all had a blast!

Sounds great! Can't wait to hear more. Hope the hotel wasn't a hassle.

Posted by STU Cat on :

Not a hassle at all, except for when they totally screamed at us for no reason. I mean, no one specifically said that we shouldn't throw chairs out the window... [Confused]

[Wink]

(The hotel was great! Very comfortable, very very convenient to both the con and lots of places to eat. A HUGE thank you to Scott for everything! [Hug] [Hug] [Love] )

Okay, but where are all the pictures?!? I specifically DEMANDED loads of pictures... [Frown]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Allen & Kent are your best bet for quick pictures, he had a digital camera. Povvins will have to develop his first.

Although I enjoy reading about how much fun you all had and I'm jealous that I wasn't able to get over there [Smile] , would one of you PLEASE inform us of what you discovered about the new Legion there!

Did anyone mention that there was also a black-and-white advance copy of issue #1 available for reading? [Smile]

There was really a lot to absorb -- I'll start a thread when I get back from work, if no one's done so by that point...

Can you believe I decided NOT to look at the advance copy of # 1?

I will say that the new LSH logo has pleased this fan greatly. I can't imagine a better one.

Word from Stephen Wacker is that Paul Levitz gets the credit.

Even Quis shot me a dirty look. But that was probably because it was his bag I was stuffin' it in.

Possibly in the background of a photo, but I don't recall whether anyone specifically took a picture of the logo.

If the logo that's being used is the one that I'm thinking of, it's all-caps, sans serif block lettering for "LEGION," followed by a smaller, cursive "of," and back to the all-caps font for "SUPER-HEROES." It reminds me of a classy, '50s-era font...

Barry mentioned us at one point. There may have been other mentions... I need the other guys to help me remember!

That's good to hear. You can never have too many pics of sex- ,er (thinks of something diplomatic), "handsome" men around here. Still, it'd be nice if they joined in the discussion around here, especially with it being so positive. But I suppose feedback gets to them through Barry.

I thought it was very cool that Legion World was mentioned. maybe more will join the site.

I have seen an copy of issue 1 as well. Sans lettering or colours of course, but one thing i liked was the fact that the artwork was clear enough to let me follow the story without words. A good poiint in a comic book I think.

what did you guys make of the new headquaters look?

Did you get a chance to have a good scan through it all especially the crowds in the backgrounds?

and did it all shock you ae much as me when you saw page 14??? (Kidding) [LOL]

Well, I didn’t want to ask, but I’m going to have to…how did Jessica Alba take it when you told her I wasn’t coming to Dallas? It was rough, wasn’t it? Poor thing…

BTW- is Sonic a fast food chain in the Midwest/South? I never really heard of it before until all of these Dallas threads. What’s it like?

Posted by STU Cat on :

Jessica Alba didn't say much of anything... (Mostly because she wasn't there! [Wink] )

Now, Jessica Biel and Erica Durance, on the other hand... [Love] [Big Grin]

Sonic Drive-In is a chain that's mostly in the Midwest/South, but does stretch up into parts of the West and Northwest. I don't think it has any locations in New England.

I'll try to get some pics on by tomorrow, all.

In the meantime, it's time for rumor and inuendo:

Which LWer, after a long night of partying, wound up in somebody else's hotel room?

Which LWer was given the phone number of the official Wizard World model?

Which LWer squeezed it, and squirted it all over his leg?

Posted by RTVU2 on :

Question one---my guess would be Lash, that's why he left in a hurry in the morning [Smile]

Question Two--- was the model male or female? If female, then STU, if male then Lash.

Question three ---I would have to say somebody else like whoever was 3 of 9...

Posted by Reboot on :

Got to ask: Did you draw straws for the numbering? And was it the guy who won or lost that ended up as Seven of Nine? [Razz]

Posted by Kent on :

It's more or less seniority based. I got bumped to the end, tho, for missing the Legion panel on Friday, so Stargazer, who came to LW after me, gets the #8 spot.

Posted by Reboot on :

Ah.

Word of advice STU - you should have insisted on Kent being bumped to Seven in punishment instead of 9 [Smile]

Posted by STU Cat on :

IIRC, the numbering represents the order in which we sat at the Legion panel -- from left to right, front to back.

Unless you're talking a lobotomy, I don't think that's possible.

It wasn't the singing, anyway, as much as it was the botched guitar intro.

When I had Mark Waid sign my copy, Barry was already starting sketches. So I asked "can you sketch me some dialog" Mark looked dubious. But Steve Wacker egged him on. Saying that this was the first and last time for this, Mark drew a word balloon for Brainiac 5 and had him saying "Can you hear me now?"

That's a very sensible approach.

The big ones can be pure sensory overload if you've never been to one before.

The real reason I want to go is to pick up some original inked pages. I have a large unadorned wall in my downstairs gym that I want to dedicate to my comic book interest.

Sounds cool. Any mid-sized con is likely to have someone selling pages.

I take it you're going to get the pages framed?

Definitely framed. I'm also looking for an appropriate poster or two.

We certainly will! Ah, the memories...

I've enjoyed all the LW meet-ups, but Dallas '04 was special because it was the first big meet-up we had. (A bunch of us had previously done smaller get-togethers.)

I'd forgotten about us all having "__ of 9" titles after the con! Just one of many fun things about the meet-up.
