Now, AQ, I really don't think we should keep posting on this thread. Peebs said he created it in error and want it to be ignored. It's not like he's created a statue of himself or anything...

I think if you give yourself a personalized title (which you've done, SoM) -- that title will override whatever default title you have. So the "Advisor" title will never show up so long as you have that current one.

I thought people might enjoy an update of the Top 40 list, which Portfolio Boy painstakingly assembled on a regular basis back in LW's early days.

I've kept PB's basic format, although I've simplified it by listing only the following information: current position, last position (above), poster's name, and total number of posts.

Amazing how some posters were so prevalent once they are still on that list:

Loser Lad only posted regularly for a like a year, most of which in one summer. If he comes back, he'd quickly rack up the posts.

Likewise, ferroboy really only posted in Sept 2004-Jan 2005, at least that's when he did it regularly, and he's still in the top 40 almost half a decade later.

The high post count posters, I notice, generally post in all forums, or close to it.

Awww... Yk got my lucky number: 35.

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

It's also interesting to see how many people on the list weren't even in the last top 40, including many--me, for example--hadn't even joined LW yet. Of course, even after four years, I still feel a little newbieish at times.

heh. I felt like a newbie for a long long time myself. Not sure exactly when that stopped. Sometime between Boston and one of the San Diegos, I guess.

now it makes me feel like a vet to see so many names on the list who haven't been on in a long time, who seemed like they were going to be permanent. Any even Ibby, who started at more or less the same time that I did, who seems like a rare visitor anymore.

Ah yes, where would we be without inane one-word posts? [Big Grin]

While significant changes are to be expected after nearly six years, it's interesting how many posters remain within three rankings of their previous positions:

Another interesting trend is how many newer posters are clustered together from nos. 25-32.

For that matter, "newbies" occupy 17 positions, or 43 percent of the list.

Holy Sox! I'm not even on the list anymore. But how did you get a post count anyway? I thought Gary disabled that feature?

Posted by He Who Wanders on :

You can still get post counts and rankings by clicking on "directory" at the top of this (or any) page. In the directory, leave the "Displayed Name" field blank and click "search members." This will give you a list of LWers in the order of joining. Click on "Posts" to put the list in order of post counts.

You know with my post count it comes out to 2700 posts per year, 225 posts per month, and about 7 posts per day. That doesn't seem like a lot, does it?

Posted by He Who Wanders on :

Mine comes out to 1686 posts per year and 141 posts per month.

Of course, such statistics can be misleading, as there are times when one posts more than at other times. For example, I didn't post at all between November 2004 and May 2005 (personal matters); I then posted sporadically until about three years ago when the posting frenzy took over! I remember that I was ranked somewhere around no. 32 at the time, so, really, I've only started to "blossom" in the last three years. [Big Grin]

According to Cobie's history...March 12, 2000 is the start date.

Official or unofficial, it's about right, and the 10 year anniv. is coming up fast.

I thought people might be interested in a monthly update. If there's interest and sufficient change, I may continue to do this every month or so, provided Portfolio Boy doesn't mind.

Four posters (in bold) move up from last month's positions: Lardy, who takes a huge, three-notch leap in the Top Ten, while Kent, Abin and cleome each climb a notch.

Entering the Top 40 for the first time (also in bold) is Stealth at no. 39! She displaces the long absent ferroboy, who slips to no. 41.

My apologies to you, too, Kent. Apparently, I got your and Eryk's numbers right but didn't switch your names. At least this means that there were more changes than I thought.

I'm glad you like the Top 40 updates.

If anyone notices any other errors, please let me know.

That's an interesting question that never got answered. According to our current top 40 (six years later):
Rockhopper Lad
Arachne

And that appears to be it.

This past year is probably the least productive I've ever been on Legion World. I remember purposely hitting 20,000 right before my honeymoon so I'd be the first poster to ever do it. That was a year ago, and I've only had 1,800 or so posts since...thats really weak for me! A lot of that has to do with lack of Legion comics and not being enthusiastic about the MMB. The latter has now changed, so we'll see...

Interesting piece of trivia.

Here's another: How many Top 40 posters are actually named after Legion characters? I count 10:

Quislet, Esq.
Lightning Lad
Kent Shakespeare
Eryk Davis Ester (e.g., Calamity King)
He Who Wanders (M'Onel)
Drake B3004 (Wildfire)
Ultra Jorge (Ultra Boy)
Invisible Brainiac (Invisible Kid/Brainiac 5)
Blockade Boy
the boy with UltraPowers (Ultra Boy)

Interestingly, only one character is so honored more than once: Ultra Boy.

Top 40 posters named after non-Legion comics characters:

Nightcrawler
dedman (Deadman?)
Yk (Yellow Kid)
Stealth

Another bit of trivia:

How many of the top 40 have the traditional Legion Lad/Lass/Boy/Girl/Kid names? Bearing in mind that some post with a slightly different name than their LMB character name, it looks like 15:
Cobalt Kid
MLLASH (Lash Lad)
Lightning Lad
Lard Lad
Pov (Poverty Lad)
Rockhopper Lad
Sketch Lad
Kid Prime
Loser Lad
Tamper Lad
Faraway Lad
Blockade Boy
The Boy With Ultra Powers
Yk (Yellow Kid)
Lad Boy

Semi Transparent Fellow and Dedman are kinda-sorta-but-not-quite in this category.

November 1, 2009 UPDATE

Change in format: In order to make the list easier to read, I’ve separated it into decades and dispensed with the usual LW titles (Time Trapper, Wanderer, etc.), which are not apt to change any time soon. I’m also listing last month’s positions only when there’s a change. Let me know if you like/dislike these modifications.

Another addition: the parenthetical number with the plus sign shows the increase in posts for each poster since the last update. The biggest increase in posting comes from cleome (a whopping 580!), followed by Quis (an also impressive 362), both of whom put the rest of us to shame.

As far as changes in post rankings go, there are not many to report this time. MyticLuna (16) climbs a notch, as does Loser Lad, who regains the no. 22 spot from Abin. Relative newcomers Stealth and rickshaw1 make impressive five- and three-notch leaps, respectively.

1. Quislet, Esq.—25,004 (+362)
2. Cobalt Kid—22,076 (+244)
3. MLLASH—19,220 (+114)

I was on my way to becoming at least a silver-medalist of posters in the animation-geeks ATA I was part of back in the 1990s. (The same 'toon-verse that spawned the legendary "Please Please Please Get A Life" Foundation.) I lost internet access for a while though, so the dream never quite came to be.

I would consider it an honor to be in contention for whatever the LMB equivalent of the PPPGALF is.

Let the dream never die!!

You can do such a list, if you have the time. [Wink] Meanwhile, here are some other stats that I find interesting:

The range (largest number minus the smallest number): 21,590

Number of posters who have posted more than 100 times in the last month: 13 (32.5 percent)

The breakdown of the latter is as follows:

cleome--580

Quis--362

Lardi--260
Kent--252
Cobie--244
me--224
Loser--205

EDE--188
Stealth--169
FC--123
LASH--114
rick--113
Luna--104

Aside from the two outliers (cleome and Quis), most of us seem to be clustered around the middle 200s or lower 100s. I don't know if this represents some sort of statistical norm, but it is interesting.

Number of Top 40 members who haven't posted at all in the last month: 8 (20 percent).

One of those, of course, has passed away (Yk). But that also means that there is room for fresh blood in the Top 40, should those "bubbling beneath" the chart increase their posting.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Some random notes on the numbers:

Quis, the #1 poster, has more than double the posts of all other posters except the next five (so from #7 onwards). I, Cobalt Kid ( [Wink] ), the #2 poster, have more than double the posts of all posters from #12 onwards. And Lash, #3, has double the posts of all posters from #14 onwards. Its amazing how staggering the largest posts can be (and how embarrassing too at times [Eek!] ).

Legion World currently has 519,638 posts in its history. Of that number, the top 10 posters have 31.47% of the posts on Legion World. Even more astounding, the top 5 posters haev 19.43% posts on Legion World. I'd do more, but I'm lazy [Big Grin] . Now a lot of that is spread out over 6 and 1/2 years, but its interesting to note how prevalent some voices have been across all things LW. In other words, the opinion of someone regarding an era of the Legion might also be that very same voice creating the opinion on another comic or TV show elsewhere on LW. The top posters are like the major (5) news media corporations! [Big Grin]

T posters in the middle of the pack (200s) still averaged less than 10 posts a day. Certainly not an outrageous clip. Clee was the only one to average more than 20 posts a day.

December 1, 2009 UPDATE

The top half of the list is completely stable this time, while the second half is where all the action is. A lot of this is due to cleome, who effortlessly glides up another six notches to no. 25!

For that matter, of the four posters who move up this month, three are women. In addition to cleome, Stealth climbs a notch to no.33, while Arachne bounces back to no. 38. Just to show that the guys are not totally idle, rickshaw1 leaps two notches to no. 35.

Overall, however, movement on the chart seems to be slowing down. There is a large number of posters who haven't posted at all in the last month, including some long-time regulars. Even among the regulars who have posted, only a few have logged more than 100 posts. Could this be due to end of the year blahs, the absence of a regular Legion comic, or even message board burnout? It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in the months ahead.

Historically, November and most of December is the slowest time ever on Legion World. This has been the case the last several years--I remember the winter of 2004 being one of the most notable lulls ever.

Considering that some of the Top 40 posters aren't posting at all anymore, I'd say your chances of returning to the chart are about 50/50--if you get on a posting streak.

January 1, 2010 UPDATE:

As we ring in the new year, it appears that three is the magic number. Once again, three posters move up the chart: Eryk Davis Ester reclaims the no. 5 spot from Kent Shakespeare, Drake B3004 reclaims the no. 16 spot from Mystic Luna, and Stealth continues her steady advance to no. 32.

The asterisks indicate people who have posted more than 100 times this month. Eight such posters have done so, down one from last month.

February 1, 2010 UPDATE:

Cobie’s Comic Book Review Month has been very good to some of us. It enabled me to shoot up three spots and land in the Top Ten. Several other posters also put in strong showings due in part to their reviews.

A total of four posters move up the chart this time: me, cleome, Arachne (up two spots!) and Lad Boy, who moves up from the anchor position. After a slow December, cleome returns to the forefront as the poster with the greatest increase.

All in all, though, it’s been an impressive month for LW. Ten posters, denoted by asterisks, posted 100 times or more, up two from last month. News of Levitz’s return to the Legion, as well as the reviews, no doubt increased traffic flow.

Wow--I was the second-most prolific poster last month! Even (just barely) beat Quis!

Still, even so, I may still not see any improvement in my ranking in 2010--I'm over 4200 posts behind the next group!!! Even if I maintain this clip over the next 11 months, I'd STILL be behind about 600 posts if Kent never posts again this year! (and for the record, I certainly don't wanna see that happen!)

It's fine, though...the Lard-man shall keep chugging! And posters 4-6 better be ready to look thru their rearviews in 2011! [Yes]

One of my posting goals was to make it into the Top Ten. Now that I've succeeded, I can kick back and relax.

NOT.

It took me about six years to finally catch up with Outdoor Miner. Back in the early days of LW, we were neck-and-neck for awhile.

So, Lardi, watch your back in 2016!

^^^ To which - Enter the Blacula! I've been at Legion World for 7 years. It's about time I joined you golden children in the sun!

Though considering I've only managed to post 1492 times in that 7 years (which - huh?!? [Confused] has someone been deleting my posts?) I don't think Lad Boy or icefire need worry about me for a while.

The only person on that list I have a hope of catching is Yk (may he rest in peace [Frown] ) and at my current rate of posting that will still take more than another 7 years!

I need to step up my game. I've been neglecting the MMB for far too long, and that's obviously the secret ingredient in getting a high post-count. Inane One-Word Posts - here I come!

Aw, I wanna' see that. Maybe hold the number "41" open for the life of the board, like they do when famous ball players retire.

Posted by He Who Wanders on :

I'm open to suggestions on how to honor Yk, or any other poster who passes on. I'm not sure what you mean by "holding the number '41' open," though.

I'd rather not retire numbers, even if we're not tracking positions below 40. Retiring a number would upset the count, should people start tracking their own positions below the Top 40.

If these updates continue as a regular feature, I may do a list of annual rankings or an index that lists each poster's highest position. If so, Yk will always have a spot at no. 35.

As for possible new entries, both Mystery Lad (43) and CJ Taylor (44) show promise.

Posting on the MMB is definitely the secret to being prolific on Legion World! Lots of convenient, active & simple threads to post on on a daily basis. Plus, if you also participate in role-playing when those pop-up, it can be very addicting and snowball your posts even more!

Not everything's about Lost, Des! [No]

(Whuh?! "Des"? Desmond? Fuck! Everything IS about Lost! [Elastic Lad] )

I don't watch "Lost," so I don't get the reference.

Now, excuse me while I board a plane.

Hmm... wasn't there a "White Rabbit" post a page or so ago? Yet another Lost connection...

You mean, even Jefferson Airplane has been co-opted by "Lost"? [Mad]

Grace Slick would be rolling over in her tequilla!

Isn't tequila what Jack and Ana Lucia drank before borading the plane?

Posted by He Who Wanders on :

How does one "borad" a plane? And does one need tequila in order to do so?

Can one borad a train?

I am borad of this line of questioning ...

Man, I hate it when people call me a "borad." It's sooooo Guys and Dolls!

Sheesh, you make one little spelling mistake....

Now I know how Cobie feels [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Trust me. It would take far more than one mistake to know how Cobie feels... [Wink]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Spelling mistakes are like investing illegally on Wall Street. You do it all the time and people point it out but you don't seriously consider changing your behavior to stop it from happening. In fact, it becomes a 'notorious' quality about you that you kind of start to enjoy.

March 1, 2010

Four posters move up this month: Pov (reclaiming No. 11 after one month), Rocky (our newest Time Trapper, advancing to No. 13), cleome (an unstoppable force who continues her climb, to No. 23 this time), and dedman (who reclaims the No. 25 spot after three months).

The biggest surprise, however, is Lardi, who emerged as the most prolific poster with a whopping 646 posts! Another surprise is deddy, who blows past the rest of us with 420 posts.

Ten posters (denoted by asterisks) exceeded 100 posts this month, the same number as last month.

Looks like I'll be breaking the 20K barrier REAL soon.

Soooooo many former regulars with 0 posts these days...

I believe Stu chose to retire that name after hitting 10,000 but what of the others?

Mystic Luna returned awhile back but then promptly disappeared again.

Lightning Lad appears to be gone for good.

Outdoor Miner still comes around sporadically, right?

Semi had a single post awhile back, iirc.

Haven't seen a post from Kippers in ages although I could swear I saw him logged on recently.

Loser Lad posts when he is able.

Abin, Spellbinder, Tamper Lad-- WTF??

Invisible Brainiac is around once in a while, right?

Future vanishes for long stretches of time. Didn't he pop back up not too terribly long ago?

Icefire and tbwUltraPowers Matt used to be here ALL the time.

And YK, RIP.

Yeah, you're currently precisely 500 posts behind fourth!

Yeah I had a good (very inane!) month. One night I had an old time phineas style posting marathon with Lardi.

Hells, I even made a couple of serious posts this month, that doesn't happen often.
I need to post even more this month if I want to catch Abin though.

I started off good but promptly got distracted by work conferences, a sick dog and a pregnant wife. [Big Grin]

Lash is about to hit the senses-shattering double Time Trapper status. Usually when this happens five lurkers die in sacrifice.

Eryk should pass Scooter's still amazing 4th place relatively soon. I really wish Scooter would post again [Frown]

I'm surprised by how many longtime posters had no posts. A little disheartening...

I think the goal for a really vibrant, *explosive* board would be for 25+ posters to have over 100 posts in one month. And then another 10 to have over 50. That would rival probably the busiest times ever on LW.

That would be awesome! Still, I'm thankful for the guys and gals we DO have. Maybe the upcoming Levitz relaunch will bring lots of new blood (and hopefully some of the old blood back) into the fold.

Yeah, only in the leadup to the holidays (and recently on a thread here) did I learn what is the likely explanation for his absence. I'm definitely disappointed, but I'd still rather have him (and SG, too) here than not. Legion World is one big internet family. I'd hope that anyone would feel welcome here, no matter how awkward certain circumstances may be.

I'm lost here. But that is not unusual.

I expect this month will be one of my busiest ever...I write my last exam on friday and don't start work till the 22nd.
Nothing to do but post [Big Grin]

I'm hoping, like Lardi, that the Levitz title will bring some folks back soon.

I think it will. We'll definitely need to "advertize" on the DC Boards, so new people will learn about us, also.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I think that's a great idea. We should make it a LW/MMB wide effort to advertise on the DCMBs. Even Newsarama the next time they have articles about Levitz and the Legion.

I'm *very* happy with the current roster of posters that are pumping out posts these days (especially during Comic Book Review Month [Big Grin] ). It seems like a great base for a potential LW explosion when the new series hits!

(And then we will draft them all into LMB roleplaying shenanigans)

I might be able to garner some interest from some of the photomanip sites i frequent.
There's one in particular that has people comment on their love for my Legion manips.
I'll try and drum up some interest whereever I go.

Although my site usually only gets 5-600 visitors a month, I'll start pimping this site more frequently as well, might be able to drag in a few more folks.

Then out of curiosity i checked Lardi's...he's already topped 160!!!

Its been like a postahon for five days for you three!

Posted by Dev Em on :

I'm somewhere around 163 right now in 4 days.

Posted by Dev Em on :

I plan on packing quite a few more this weekend if possible. More reviews, inane posts...etc.

Posted by dedman on :

After tommorrow morning my rate will probably explode, I write my last exam tommorrow and don't start work till the 22nd. Thats a lot of time to kill [Big Grin]

I even got some stuff for bits almost finished up, which I should be posting over the next few days.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Looking forward to that Deddy.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

What we should do is a "real time roleplay" during one night for a postathon. With the expectation that the mini-storyline ends at the end of the night. Fun and post-count explosive.

Posted by dedman on :

I'm up for that, good idea Cobie

I could do that tonight. My wife watches Grey's Anatomy, which affects me the same way snakes do Indiana Jones.

I have to go to bed soon. The kids will get me up by 7:30.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Er, so Deddy, Ex and I did have some fun for a bit in that real time roleplay but I had to check out early.

I totally recommend some of you guys keep that going!

You two are posting up a storm! I know I'm over 300...I suspect several of us have passed the 200 mark which is just incredible. Ever since that conversation two pages ago, the MMB has just been exploding with activity. Yesterday was pretty awesomely insane on the MMB!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

You've got to be up there too. But yeah...wow. Dev has more than double my posts this month already. And I think I'm beating your post count last month (the highest last month).

I think March 2010 might end up rivaling the busiest of months ever in MMB history if we can keep this up.

Posted by Lardi on :

Yeah, I'm approaching 500 tonight and it's looking pretty weak! [Smile]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I think this week has been a postathon every day. Has it been like that all month?

What's help is we have some added depth this month: more posters in the MMB. That's what we needed and its paid off in spades!

I guess the combo of the election and the LMBP anniversary have been a HUGE boost!

Wow, and I thought I was posting a lot...you are a posting machine.

Well, at 671 I've already shattered my post count for last month (646) with half a month still to go, but it's still way behind such luminaries as dedman and Dev.

Posters! Update us on where you stand individually on your post count this month vs. last month, STAT!

402. Not bad. But you and Deddy...WOW!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Yeah, I've got to be around 400-500 too (which I'm proud of) but Dev & Deddy have taken it to a new level.

There was a time where EDE and I would average 100 posts a day in 2004, so we probably were in the same category of Dev & Dedman, but even so, I think they've hit a category of their own by this point. I want them (and the rest of us!) to keep it up all month!

I'm looking for 800+ from at least 5 of us! Stealth, that means you and I need to keep it going! [Yes]

What I like is that *most* of the inane post threads these days feel like at least there's some thought going into them, even if its a quick joke about something that goes wrong in Kent Shakespeare's absence.

So for every Guess Who? or inane one word post (which is the worst of the worst), there's a sense that all of these posts aren't mindless.

Just my opinion, natch [Big Grin] (I do post to those threads btw)

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod, Mr Cobalt, Why would you ever like think that people post mindlessly here on LW?

It's not like their spelling is horrible... umm... I mean... [giggle]

Anyway it takes a long time to think up one of my posts.

Ohmygod, Like Defensive Much, Mr. Cobalt?

Posted by Dev Em on :

I can't imagine why he would be defensive with you around.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Everyday Girl? Sure, those guns she carries are alarming. But I swear if I end up with a bullet hole in any part of my body, I'm going to sabotage her Prom in ways the guy from Animal House could only dream of.

Starting with taking all the high school boys out the night before for their first donkey show and then finding out who else is sitting at her table and and then tricking her into bringing me as her date. And then getting her annoyingly hammered on gin.

Yup, Everyday Girl's upcoming Prom is something I've given a lot of thought to since we let her walk around with those firearms...

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod Mr Cobalt, Are you like threatening me? [giggle]

And anyway I already have a date for the Prom and everybody at Legion World High remembers what a jerk you were to 'Lita, so go ahaid and show up... it'll be fun to watch.

And like Ohmygod, Uncle Spacey and Gram are chaperoning the prom this year, so you'll like have some old folks to talk to... after they fish you out of Giant Squid Jr's Tank.

<comes back with lipstick on his collar, smelling a little like booze>

Well Everyday Girl, I just had a wonderful date with your new, young art teacher, Ms. Bella. Quite the charming young lady! I had no idea she was such a big fan of Cobalt Kid. Apparently I saved her a few years back when she was in college. Anyway, she mentioned something about teachers should be able to bring dates to the Prom since they'll be there too--honestly, I didn't implant the idea in her head--and I just laughed it off.

Just in case though, I'm having Lucien Lad make me a fine new tux. Y'know, in case I have nothing else to do and no galaxies to save that night [Wink]

<pat on the lower back>

Also, I spotted your Prom date? Is that your boyfriend? He seems like a real...nice guy... [Big Grin]

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod, Ms. Bella... Young??? She's gotta be at least like 26! Maybe like 30... Almost as old as you.

And you be nice to Sam. Uncle Spacey says he's a keeper and Stoopid Cat likes him.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Cobie. Introduce me to this Sam fellow please. I need to take a good look at him.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Rumor is he wants to be a writer. Talk about head in the clouds. Hope he has a back-up plan. At the very least he needs a real job. Why doesn't he work for me at the Security Office, inspecting bombs and retina-printing space-trollops?

And er, yes, I forgot, Ms. Bella to you is very old like the rest of us.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Offer him a job.

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod! Sam Pureheart already has a like job. He's a Search and Rescue EMT. He works for Doc One at Medicus Two.

He and his partner Tony helped you with that Tennement Fire last week, Mr Cobalt. You said they deserved a medal for the way they went in with you after the building started collapsing...

Posted by Dev Em on :

Yeah...about Tony...

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Oh, he was one of those two guys! A fine lad! That was actually some impressive work. Tony was a little shaky for a moment, but I said a few words to calm him down and that did the trick (you know, I was just acting like myself, spouting off moving speeches).

Afterward they were feeling the adrenaline so I took them out for a few drinks. I didn't know they were underage at first but then I took them to this real dive, the sleaziest place on Legion World! It was awesome, these Winathian girls came over and--

...er...uh, I mean, yeah, those kids did a great job. Real good stuff.

Posted by Dev Em on :

Tony puked for three days afterward though.

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod, Tony Broadneck is the ambulance driver on Sam's team and he's a low level Teke. He held that building up while Sam and Mr Cobalt got the last few people out... Including that poor little boy that died. Sam and Tony are both pretty broken up about that... they like feel like they should have done something more.

Ohmygod, Sam was with me that night and Tony was with My Whee, so you can stick it Mr. Cobalt.

(And you were at Medicus Two talking to Doc One for hours after you sent everybody home, you like fraud... Winanthian Nurses maybe...)

Posted by Dev Em on :

They sure seemed happy while out later that night. Just saying.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Sometimes the way to get over the grief is to cut loose and let off some steam. I'm not going to lie to you--there was some serious crying and I had to comfort the two of them--but then they felt cleansed and so I entered them into that "quarters" competition against the Khundian rugby team.

Next thing you know, here comes the Silverale Bombs...

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod! Give it up! I like know better!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

<ponders pushing it further but feels guilty doing so>

Uh...sure Brit, of course. You'd know better.

Just...watch yourself with these guys, okay? Whatever you think of me, know this: I can smell my own kind. And I've grown quite fond of you.

(Maybe I should have a talk with Sam after all...)

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod, Mr Cobalt, Sam's already met Gramps and Gram and Space Ranger, and Mr Hrun, and Stoopid Cat, they all like him. Even Gramps matlock likes him, and he thinks everybody is guilty until proven innocent, twice.

If you scare him off, I'll...

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Hm, we all liked Pov and you can see he's as crazy as Michael Jackson at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

All I'm saying is Sam and Tony drank enough to kill two lightning beasts and then we partied with the Winathian Girl's Ski team until sun-up. I lost sight of them when I thought it'd be funny to bring one of the girls to the Election Tyrant's house and do it in his backyard.

And Tony has to get checked up by Dr. One because he has a weird fungus now.

Posted by Everyday Girl on :

Ohmygod! the Winathian Girl's Ski team better expect a visit from the champion swordswoman of the Cackles cuz My Whee Fem isn't gonna be happy to hear that. And you know what she's like when she gets riled up.

Unless you're just messing with me... But you guys wouldn't like lie to me for a few laughs, [bats eyes at Cobie & Dev] would you?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Of course not Brit! We're just looking out for you and My!

It's my duty as your boss, friend and potential future boyfriend when you're a little older to make sure none of these jerks break your heart. If I were you, I wouldn't maim them, but I'd definitely make sure they remember they were in a fight.

Completely unlike some others around here I could name.

We can't let roleplaying sabotage the posting extravaganza. [Big Grin] Otherwise, to hell with it! (*gasp*)

We're both pretty close...I suggest a continual 2 and 1/2 day back and forth on several threads in various forums to get us there.

I *hate* replying to a thread when I'm the last one to have already responded, and will only do it in Gym'lls if I feel like I have something to say that is different than a post I might have made a few months earlier about a series. (Not counting the occassional "PS" we add to a post here in the MMB)

April 1, 2010

What a month! In celebration of the LMB’s 10th anniversary, LW was bursting with activity in March. As a result, six posters move up in rank—the most since I started these monthly updates back in September. Those six are EDE (who finally claims the No. 4 spot from Lightning Lad), cleome (21), dedman (22), Dingleberry Damsel (who takes a five-notch leap to 27), Blockade Boy (33), and Lad Boy (38).

Several posters made it their goal to break 1000 posts last month, and four (denoted by double asterisks) accomplished this: Cobie, Officer Taylor, cleome, and dedman. In addition, nine other posters (denoted by single asterisks) exceeded 100, making a total of 13—the most since November.

(A special shout-out to Dev Em, who posted 1531 times last month and is currently at No. 49. Won’t be long, Dev!)

Another significant accomplishment: Lash becomes our third DoubleTimeTrapper with more that 20,000 posts.

Wow, what a month for milestones!

Lash hitting double-trapper status is huge! Only the third ever!

Eryk now officially the fourth top poster!

Dev with a massive 1,531!! If that isn't the record, its close. (Only really Lou might have something similar from the Summer of 2004).

Deddy, then Lardy, then me and then Cleome all over 1,000! Groovy!

And a ton of others over 500. Plus a lot more over 100.

Let's keep it rolling!

Posted by Dev Em on :

Dang, Deddy, Cobie, Lardy and Cleome posted up a storm as well. Good job guys.

At best, I'll say Lou and I have a tie for posting in a month. If I can hit 2000 one month, that'll be a real feat.

Wonder if there's a PBP type Board somewhere around here to post away willy nilly in?

Are we going to give Art an honorary #41 spot if he ever does get moved off this list?

Also, nice to see 9 of the top 10 still posting. Don't know, or want to know, what happemed, but wish all ten were stilllactive.

Knowing YK like I did, I think he'd prefer the list to change and evolve as post counts grow on its own.

Certainly, he will always be an LMBer in every way. [Smile]

Wow, great month everyone!

Dev you should make the list next month for sure.

It bears repeating: probably my most prolific month ever, but I'm only third place for the month! Wild and crazy, LW--gotta love it! [Big Grin]

Could you imagine what our post counts would look like if we could have rolled them over from board to board?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I only need a little more than 2000 posts to make Double Time Trapper by the end of this month... [Hmmm?]

Posted by Dev Em on :

YOU CAN DO IT!!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

That's less than a hundred posts a day!

Do you remember the old days pally? Well they're back.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Yeah, you guys need to pace yourselves. You're not exactly young whipper-snappers anymore [Wink]

I mean, 100 posts a day is doable if you're Cobalt Kid and flirting with Alt IDs, or Quislet and posting on forums and threads no one even knows about unless you're double-trapper, but it could really burn some of you guys out. [Razz]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

PS - Double-Trapper you shall be, Eryk! I think you should sneak up on Lash so he feels threatened by your growing post count!

Posted by cleome on :

Hah. More people 'round these parts should take their cue from Death of a Salesman: You don't have to TALK about it if you're gonna' DO it.

Oh, I`m not burning out. A mojor reason for my high count this past month was that I had most of it off. Up until the 22nd I was averaging around 50 a day.
Now that I`m working again, that rate will drop off but I am sure I can still do 5 or 6 hundred [Big Grin]

May 1, 2010

April offered another month of dynamic activity on LW, as the large post counts below attest. Although only one Top 40 veteran broke 1,000 (EDE, denoted with a double asterisk), several others posted in the 400, 500, 700, and even 900 range.

Three posters move up this month: your humble chartkeeper (No. 8), Pov (No. 10), and rickshaw1 (No. 34). Pov's ascent bumps Outdoor Miner out of the Top 10.

New to the Top 40: Dev Em (No. 33) and Mattropolis (No. 35)—the first posters to break into the Top 40 since Stealth (now Fanfic Lass), back in October. Welcome!

(Apologies to both Dev and Matt for not keeping track of your posting totals last month; that's something I'll have to do for future Top 40 prospects!)

Of course, this means we lose two posters: Yk and icefire. Some have suggested giving the late Yk an honorary designation of No. 41; however, I think Art would appreciate the integrity of the chart reflecting current posting trends. Besides, old friends are always with us in spirit.

Counting the two newbies, 14 posters exceeded 100 posts this month (denoted, except for EDE, with a single asterisk), up one from last month.

Wow, I had no idea I had that many at 776, third to only Lash & Eryk on the list, though I have to wonder what Dev's total numbers were.

Eryk--that's pretty amazing! I guess its a combo of all the Legion topics (especially the latest rewrite the Legion one), the Titans Board and the DC Boards road trip that spurred on yourself, Lash and myself in various forums. And I love it!

Lash is truly on fire once emore!

Eryk, you're about to hit double time trapper, currently the greatest of all LW milestones!

And Kent is about to knock Scooter out of the top 5 for the first time ever in LW history--8 years worth at that!

June 1, 2010

The big news of May 2010 was, of course, the return of Paul Levitz to the Legion and the launch of a new series written by him. As one might expect, the board is buzzing with activity. While only one Top 40 poster batted more than 1000 this time (Kent), seven others posted more than 500 times, and five others posted more than 100. That’s a total of 13 posters with more than 100 posts, down one from last month.

Movin’ on up: The aforementioned Kent shortens his name but climbs a notch to No. 5, creating the first Top Five ever without LW co-founder Lightning Lad. After being bumped from the Top Ten last month, Outdoor Miner returns with a vengeance at No. 9, posting 847 times more than he did last month! Meanwhile, cleome enters the Top 20 at No. 19, while Fanfic Lass (No. 26) advances a notch and Mattropolis (No. 33) advances two.

Some long absent friends popped in for a brief appearance last month, leaving only five Top 40 posters with zero posts, down a whopping nine from last month.

Wow, alright Kent!

BTW, HWW, you might know this already but STU has retired that username permanently. He will not post a 10,001st post.

He's using his most well known alt ID though and had a few posts in May. (I won't reveal of course).

I kinda like having Stu permanently at 10,000. It means that as one becomes a Time Trapper (as I most recently did), one automatically moves up one place. [Big Grin]

Yes, I know that Stu's been around under a different name. He gave his former ID quite a send off by announcing his intentions to "retire" in advance and then posting a moving piece about how LW was all a figment of his lonely imagination. (For a figment, I was truly moved. [Smile] )

Wonder how long it will be before his new ID enters the Top 40 . . .

July 1, 2010

The biggest mover this month is Mattropolis, who climbs five notches to No. 28. cleome also takes an impressive three-notch jump to No. 16, while Outdoor Miner (No. 8), Rockhopper Lad (No. 12), and Abin Quank (No. 24) each climb a notch.

The most prolific poster this month was Outdoor Miner, whose 1,248 posts make him the only poster with more than a thousand posts; he also outstrips the competition by nearly 300 posts. I guess all those inane questions really do pay off, huh, Miner? [Smile]

The number of posters who racked up 100 or more posts this month was 14—up one from last month but tying the record established in May.

Meanwhile, Eryk Davis Ester becomes our fourth Double Time Trapper. Congratulations, Eryk!

And now, in honor of Legion World's seventh anniversary, here's a LW Top 40 Extra--

THE LEGION WORLD TOP 72 OF ALL TIME

Why 72? That's how many posters have made the Top 40 over the years. (Of course, some of those are alt IDs, but I'll leave it to others to figure out which ones.)

The first number after each poster's name represents the highest position he or she has ever reached. The second number tells how many times he or she reached that position. The third number is the position(other than the peak) at which the poster has spent the most time--a useful number for breaking ties.

Enjoy!

After going over the list and correcting a few errors, I noticed a couple of statistics I thought interesting:

Eight posters that I know of are women: Nos. 12, 16, 17, 33, 38, 48, 52, and 54. (Also, No. 66 if one counts alts.) That's 11 percent (or 12.5 percent).

Five posters that I know of are alt IDs: Nos. 61, 64, 66, 67, and 69 = 7 percent

Milestone: Kent becomes the fifth Double Time Trapper. Way to go, Kent!

My posting habits have REALLY dropped off in recent years, of course, which is why I'm only just coming up for 8000 now... [This being 7998, I believe. I intend to revive something I've spent a long time contributing to over the years here, but haven't added to in a year and a half, for 8k...]

Reboot, if you check out the Legion World Top 40 Index, you can see all the positions you've held through May 2010. You are listed under your original name, Sanity or Madness?

I note that you reached No. 11 between one of the periods in which no lists were being compiled. It's possible that you reached the Top 10 during one of those gaps; unfortunately, data for those periods are lost.

Actually, cleome did not move up from April to May (she was at No. 21); prior to that, she was stuck at No. 25 in December and January and No. 31 in October and November. But, yes, she doesn't gather much dust. [Smile]

Lately I just haven't been up to posting as much besides reviewing the latest comics I've been reading. Real life stress at work has kind of got me down so I'm spending more time with my little guys at home (baby & Pickles). I just don't have the energy to put together a coherent arguement on any sort of comic book topic, like the Legion or anything involving real analysis.

I think my cure may be a much needed MMB posting period. Something where I don't have to convince someone their corporation's bottom line won't be affected in a bad way by signing on the for deal I'm putting together.

On an even more plus side!!! I found my book. I left it at work, in my silly drawer.

I hate when that happens.

but better to have found it in an annoying way than really lost it.

This is true. I couldn't find that monologue anywhere online. I searched all various ways I could think of, so it was great to see it. I made a copy of the piece and put that book back on the shelf. Let's see it escape now!

I was going to try to break 14,000 in August. Unfortunately, the motherboard on my computer seems to have gotten too old to work (something I try telling my boss about me, but he won't believe me). As it may be awhile before I can afford a new computer, my attendance on LW may be diminished for awhile.

At least, I accomplished my lifelong goal of reaching the Top Ten. [Yes]

You can borrow my long-time explanation:

"I used to have a life, but I couldn't keep up the payments and so it got repossessed."

Remember me after you write your bestselling self-help book.

352 posts, huh? I SWEAR I wouldn't have had much more than fifty posts for the entire month if not for two threads: NYC Comic Con & Dev's postathon/Erin Gray thread! Both were groovalicious experiences, but otherwise LW's relative deadness and my own busy schedule would've combined to make this my weakest month in AGES! I've certainly been more prolific in past months, but it's pretty respectable under the circumstances--plus reaching 17,000 posts in the process!

Coolness!

I guess it's for the same reason that any of us are interested in the rankings, post count, etc. represented in this thread...because it appeals to the competitive side of our natures. I posted my butt off and worked my way up to the Top 7 as something to show for it.

Does it bother you that it matters to me? Seemed a strange thing to call out, anyway. [shrug]

My enthusiasm for the inane stuff on MMB waxes and wanes. I do know for a fact that heavy inane posting on MMB is the only way to earn a competitive post count. Usually, if I dedicate myself to doing it, the enthusiasm creeps back up, though.

I'm quite proud of the fact that I made it into the Top 10. A few years ago, when I was languishing around No. 32, such a feat seemed to be a pipe dream. Now, I'm at last in the upper echelon.

You've 910 posts.

And, in case you're interested, future king, you are presently at No. 97 (a two-way tie with Awkward Pause Boy), so at least you're in the Hot 100.
Thanks guys! It makes my heart proud to be in the Top 100! LOL [Smile]

Thanks friend, much appreciated! It is a crazy little guilty pleasure I have to play on this awesome site once in a while. We're all dye-in-the-wool Legion fans so this is a great way to touch base with each another and have a bit of fun.

Actually surprised that I came out on top this month. I thought ol' Hrista would have beaten me. Nice to be in that spot, but a lot of posters were noticably off their game. Like OM--after, like, November 11th, he fell off the face of the Earth! Hope he's okay!

I'm also in position to take over the no. 6 spot this month from Scott unless I either fall way off, or Scott decides to suddenly return from his year-plus long absence. I'll say it again...I never want to move up by default and would prefer that all of our beloved contributors stay active. So if it happens, it'll be with a heavy heart that I take over.

Thanks, Chief. I'm glad that my fascination/obsession with Top 40-style lists is shared by others.

And I think my only hope for advancement for the foreseeable future is *because* Scott is no longer posting. This means that I may be able to overtake him sometime next year. Also, if OM takes another lengthy sabbatical, I might overtake him, as well; however, OM came back with a vengeance last spring and may do so again.

Like Lardy, though, I'd rather not overtake people simply because they've stopped posting. The friendly competition that the list generates among posters should not be taken too seriously.

Incidently, I've completed preliminary work on a Top 40 of 2010 list, which ranks people solely in terms of how we did this past year. It's not ready to be posted yet, but there are some surprises. Lemme just say that No. 1 is not who you think it is.

Just a guess: In about a year and a half or so, we will probably have a fairly stable top ten (that is, one that doesn't shift much, if at all, for a long time) that will read thus:
1. Quis
2. Cobie
3. Lash
4. Kent
5. EDE
6. Lardy
7. Cleome
8. OM
9. He Who
10. Rocky

This assumes, that LL does not return to active posting, but OM does and that we all continue to post more or less as we do now.

Could be. In doing these lists, though, I've come to expect the unexpected.

Besides, in a year and a half, I expect to be in the Top Five, at least. [Wink]

Eh. Don't get me wrong. I love you guys, but I've promised myself that I'm going to actually get some art done in 2011. So by this time next year it's just as likely that you'll be hearing fk's feet instead of mine-- hair issues notwithstanding, of course.

Well, not exactly. It's when the world ends, according to a popular mythology which has vague roots in a misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar, as well as a variety of other sources. [Smile]

The best analogy I've heard, which is not completely accurate either, is to compare the Mayan calendar to a table of the dates of Easter Day as might be found in an almanac or prayer book. There is a last year listed on that table, but the intent of the person who made up the table is not to say that Easter will never be celebrated after that date.

Getting us back on topic, this is my 12,709th post. [Big Grin]
