Actually, we don't usually battle. The winner is customarily the candidate most geographically convenient to fill the post. A good supply of cayenne pepper (a potent squirrel repellent) is also a plus.

Actually now that I got started on that, the idea of a flower being a super hero is interesting and different - how very classically LMB-ish.
I never read The Flaming Carrot but since carrots are vegetables I'm not at all sure that would apply as a precedent.

The Black Orchid was shown to be a plant in the Vertigo mini by that name. (There are LOTS of plant type heroes in Pokemon, but I guess that doesn't apply here.)
